  1. Well, it wouldnt be about competing, it would be about the challenge, aspiring to create something, not for any reallly good reason other than to do something.
  2. Wow, sorry for not posting earlier, but remember I said about fix_ownership.php, this is what its for When you modify files with mods or packages in SMF it makes a copy of the older file as a backup for you, well, the backup needed changed and couldnt be because of the chmod, fix_ownership.php will chmod all the files correctly within seconds, no hassle for you. Just upload it your SMF folder, run the file in your web browser and then delete it. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  3. http://www.echoforum.com/ Like that? Thats echo forum, a way of sharing forum content.
  4. No probs :lol:Have fun with the upgrade, the only other tool you may need is fix_ownership.php which can be found at simple machines via a search.
  5. Found it! This is the 1.0.3 package for the package manager! http://mods.simplemachines.org/downloads/s_package.tar.gz This is the 1.0.4 Package for the package manager! http://mods.simplemachines.org/downloads/s_package.tar.gz But if you have the faster parse code mod installed at the 1.0.4 upgrade use this packge instead. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Have fun, and the 1.0.5 after all that will be listed! If you have any issues, post them!
  6. Yeah you could do it that way, im not sure if it will still list them though, although im pretty sure their lying around the Simple Machines site.Ill try and find them, also mod reinstall should only take a few seconds. Tell me if the package manager lists 1.0.3 and if you can upgrade that way, if not, post here and tell me, ill try and get the older packages.
  7. There is a package for people that straggle Its the UPGRADE package, http://download.simplemachines.org/ Specifically this file http://download.simplemachines.org/ When you upload all the files overwrighting your current ones, run the script in your browser upgrade.php and it will update your forum to 1.0.5
  8. SMF has released a critical fix for SMF, the secuirty bug isnt disclosed by the development team, so although your safe, you really should upgrade now. Just go into your admin panel, and on the front screen it has a link, clicking the link, will upgrade your board, without affecting any mods. It will only take 10 seconds. Quote from SimpleMachines. Please upgrade now, if you cannot, post here, ill be happy tohelp you.
  9. Right well, from what I was looking at, First we would need to get the Linux kernel working, then somehow install the X Server, which is some sort of GUI mojo, after that, it needs an interface, a close to Windows one is FWM95 which can be modded to have a Windows XP look. But, im wondering, would it be easier to create something from a pre-existing distrabution, and then recode some of it, or start from scratch and build our, own, we could try Linux from scratch, its a website with a full sort of over view, so are you up to the challenge infamous flame? I'd be happy to work with ya on it, we could get Connec as I know he wanted to do something similar a while ago.It could be quite fun.....
  10. Yeah sure, post your changes, im sure its useful to some, you might even wanna check over at simple machines, you may be able to post your changes there, and Grudge (he made it i think?) will maybe include it in a future download of the package.
  11. Im glad you both like SMF.Its buillt around the idea of becoming an amazing piece of software, they have heard our cries and 1.1 will have a lot of new features, mostly all user suggested. Ive even had the lead developer look in on asta atleast three times, just to point him to some of this communitys comments and I can say I felt he was impressed byt he support SMF has on these forums, keep up all the great SMF work. Its a great piece of free softeware and just needs people like free hosts to spread the word, and it wont be long before its the next big script, so help it, grow!
  12. I'll leave it open, it may be of some use to someone in the future, and it will make this place a bit less spammy.
  13. It goes by how much you write and the quality of it.As far as I know, the system does its job and if its amazing, the admins give you extra, but that only applies in the "How tos and tutorials" board at the top, we have to validate all those posts individually, generally a page worth of post is about 5 credits, maybe just a bit more.
  14. Yeah im a Simple Machines junkie A few posts over at Simple Machines http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  15. Yup Im reading im using too much, I just dont have the ammount of files it claims I have, 232MB yeah right, im sure the admins will fix it the minute they see it, in the mean time, I dont think its affecting the hosting.s
  16. Huzzah! Microsoft Held the Answer! https://support.microsoft.com/en-us
  17. Ive recently got my linux box working perfectly, got a local server running and stable. But I hit a problem, Linux connects to the net through my windows box, I use and ADSL modem.Modem -> Windows -> LinuxBut how do I do the -> Linux bitI know with a hardware router its simple, you just change the address of where the traffic on that port is to go, but I dont have a router, so any ideas on how it can be done on Windows so any incoming traffic on set ports is routed to the internal networks linux box?
  18. I had an idea, where we could come up with questions for the SMF team to answer, nothing to specific but like a general interview, we could come up with about 8 questions open to the floor of the SMF team, so anyone could answer from the SMF team. Then we could direct 5 questions at each section of the SMF team like (support, mods, developers etc) and then finally have some questions for the communioty of SMF to answer. But we would need to come up with the questions: Questions: Open To Floor: To Developers: To Project Managers: To Mod Team: To Support Team: To Graphics Team: To Doc team: To Language Co-Ordinators: To Community: Ill fill in the above sections as questions are posted, then we can submit a final draft, perfectly formatted to the SMF community boards, and see if we get some replys, should be pretty cool. (Hopes for a slashdot )
  19. Well, firstly I would like to admit, I hate big linux distros, I hate SuSE, I hate Fedoa Core, I hate Debian and I hate slackware, and never really had a flare for Gentoo, I found out a bit later on in my Linux experience, im a small linux junkie, anything under 100MB that can power a machine, in my books is an amazing achievement and I have tried a lot of small distrabutions, such as DamnsmallLinux, Dragon, Tiny, and Puppy.Well, I tried puppy linux the first time, I wasnt very impressed, old and dated interface pretty bad all together, then I tried DamnSmall and I liked the interface until I relised, its compatable with just about nothing and its tools all have very bad text interfaces. I decided, one last time, Ill try puppy, so I went on my HD install mission, puppy created a huge problem with this and complained every few seconds about how it couldnt mount XYZ and how Grub was buggered. I finally got it installed after buring a second CD and using a spare CD drive. I went into the package manager, I was amazed, a whole list of free stuff, so I downloaded it all , then changed my window manager, changed my theme, and now I have a beautiful and brand spanking new looking interface that I love, the programs have no text interfaces and I love the look.I also downloaded Deer Park Alpha 1 today and it installed a charm. Puppy made that so easy for me too. Its a very nice distrabution, its only 60MB and it runs faster than anything on an old P Celeron, 333Mhz with 96MB ram, its rapid and boots in less than 30 seconds. On demand it loads my programs and just generally kicks *bottom*.When it boots, I calls my Windows DHCP thing, gets an IP and is again ready for the net instantly. I really love how easy it all is, networking was so easy, and thats Windows -> Linux networking, and files can be shared. I love it.If your looking for a distrabution, I really recomend, giving puppy a try.http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I love it!
  20. I wonder if the OpenBSD developers tape all wires to walls, put trunking around the cables, dress in bubble wrap, they do take security seriously.I am still a firm believer in OpenOffice, and ive just removed Microsoft Office (yesterday) I seriously believe I can live without it, ill maybe have some trouble with presentations, because Ive never really found a free alternative that was as good as PowerPoint, although flash may do okay, but I really did like PowerPoint.
  21. SMF is a pinical of security and I do premote it here a lot, youll see a lot of people actually listened and tried it, fell in love and now spread it far and wide, SMF is the forum system of the future and we should all bow down to it.
  22. They did have a basic convertor, but to my knowledge, it was pretty useless, SMF on the other hand has an amazing convertor that has proved to work, and most of the people here will swear by SMF being a lot better than phpBB could ever be.
  23. chmod, public_html to 777 and it should work, it happens sometimes that it gets a little scoobied but that should fix it.
