1.0.3 would do the same as the 1.0.5 instructions.I havent ever seen that error before, try upgrading to 1.1 Beta 3, its a very stable beta, and if you still get that, please post back here and ill chase it further for you.

Is this SMF 1.1 Beta 3 public? If so Admin -> Packages -> Cleanup Permissions -> All are files writable. -> Go And that will sort that. If your using SMf 1.0.5, then download http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ this thing on the first post, upload to your SMF directory and then run it in your web browser and it should sort that.

Alpha means it will crash. Althoughs its very stable from what ive seen.szupie, register to the google news alert, "Firefox" expect about 25 emails a day, so Gmail can organise them perfectly in one mail. Its the best way to keep on track.

No, Disk Usage is inclusive of SQL usage, when you hit your 150MB limit, youll only get error 28 from mysql.

Im a winamp junkie. I love the sound effects it auto ads, like fade instead of abrupt stop. Also its wide range of support is great, havent ever had to download extra codecs for winamp.

Right, ill explain SMF Moderator logic. With SMF Moderators have powers in the board you specify, so they arent really one group. If yuo want moderators on all boards, then Global Moderator does that. But: Admin -> Modify Boards -> Modify and in that screen in a little window with a box to input moderator names.

It gets worse, 1.0.6 is set for next week, 1.0.5 crashed most of the API for the L10N teams so 1.0.6 is on its way.1.1 is however a very nice update and brings a lot to the table, a lot that I like, and is much better at memory management and boot up.Along with an improved pop-up blocker.

The Best Forum Software Company Some of the best Forum Software Company
Trekkie101 replied to iGuest's topic in Software
Although I like MyTopix, purely because of the development effort going into it. SMF still beats the others hands down.SMF has more features than any forum software, note I said features, not bloat.SMF has just went 1.1, so if you didnt like 1.0.X, then I urge you to try 1.1 its a completely different barrel of bricks, and has a lot more features.Theres an influx of themes just about to be released and probably some of the best ones we've seen before. The mod community is growing by leaps and bounds, just give it a little more time. And converting from any software, is possible if you can get the database. The developers have put a huge push into this. -
Ubuntu! Install My weekend project
Trekkie101 replied to Trekkie101's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Sorry for not posting sooner, ive been very busy lately and only just managed the time to actually start playing around with my Ubuntu install, its running on a very old PC and yet still keeps a very nice speed, a little sluggish in some places, but a LOT faster than windows would run. so I took some screenshots http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/404.png Like? -

My Summer Is Ruined! Please help, computer down
Trekkie101 replied to iGuest's topic in Hardware Workshop
Id call that a shot power pack aswell.check it by swapping the monitor power lead and the unit power leads, if it still doesnt work, its most probably a power pack thats killed itself, only about $20 to replace. -
I know the site your on about, not a god damn chance, we will not be using Javscript for something so easy. There is no hard work involved. How it works, let me explainSite index.php - choose a colourorange/blue/pink - goes to directory then in directory is folder named images and a css file, for colouring itNow, for each folder, the images folder has the images for that colour, and a CSS file to colour the page, so when you switch colour at the very first page, you goto the same site, but in a different colour.Either that, or we do start using a proper templating system LIKE I suggested so many months ago. We arent coding silly bits of javascript, thats just gonna cause trouble.Stop wasting time, you seem to have been speaking to Adam, he loves the idea of over doing things, lets not remember he is the boy, who argued, flash should replace all web code.

It does thanks. We do have a very big admin team, we dont really have moderators, we found that pointless. We used to go by a full sort of chain of command thing, but it doesnt gain anything, so now we just act normally. Were mostly all UK visitors thats why we never really seem to get many people posting at alternate times, but most nights (GMT) we get really busy.

Forum System: Do We Have To Use Ipb?
Trekkie101 replied to infamousflame's topic in Web Hosting Support
The IPB System in use here is very closely integrated with the running of Xisto, a lot of systems like the credit system and the hosting applications are alll tied into this forum. It would require a great deal of work to get to SMF, work that I dont think you understand, you see it would require writing some code.PLEASE SEARCH IN FUTURE......... this has been discussed before.Alphonse, SMF harder, meh! It isnt! -
Well, today Ir elised more than ever that my beloved SMF is still the best.Today I was doing some tests of the new ->SMF convertors, which are amazing in their selfs, first all you need to specify it the old forum location and the new location, and it will find the database settings and everything by itself, once its got the data it emptys the SMF forum of its data and then moves the old data over. If the server load is going to be too large, it does it in small chunks, I think its 500 messages/members/stuff at a time, so large forums will take a while, but the server wont crash or go slow, its got an auto continue aswell, so you dont even need to click "Continue" it works itself.Well first up on my schedule today was MiniBB, got it setup properly quite quickly, but had to manually set up the config file but then again, this package goes for bare minimum of everything. It took an absolute age to fill this forum up with data, it has a flood gate and it doesnt seen editable, so its 60 seconds between posts, an absolute age. But I got there, and it reminded me of what I would miss by leaving SMF. It has next to nothing, bar the post/reply feature, it doesnt even use smileys. Very bare minimum. Its free and from minibb.net But I still recomend SMf over itNext was mercury board, a more sytable product, very nice installer, helped me all the way, very simply worded questions, nothing too hard, it is a lot simpler than most installers, and to a degree beats the SMF installer on friendlyness. Its a VERY nice interface, the orange is remarkable and very nice and easy to use. Its probably the easiest for anyone just learning to post and reply to use, its very simple and the buttons are large. Its admin panel has a feature for you to run SQL querys in it, thats also a general fault, anyone could delete your database if they gained admin. The only thing it lacked was anything extra-ordinary in the way of features, sure its nice, but its not exactly brimming with features, it has the standard stuff, its unbloated, but it doesnt do anything that others dont, its pretty bog standard. But SMF still beats them all by leeps and bounds, although Mercury board was giving SMF a run for its money on speed, but then, I hadnt filled it with topics, and my SMF has 6500+ posts.

Well this weekend I decided to skip mini distrabutions and go for another larger install, I still dont really want to install Debian or Fedora Core, so I decided this time I'd look at the screenshots and see what my cup of tea was. So first thing was first, boot into Puppy and backup my personal stuff, so on goes my old PC and it boots perfectly as normal, up until it comes to starting the window manger (X), it doesnt load, so I type "xwin" and it doesnt start, it just says to xwin if I want to restart the interface. So at that point, I really cant be bothered, so I head over to my drawer, and find a spare 8.5GB hard drive, it hadnt ever worked before, windows couldnt even detect it. I plugged it in, and as usual, the computer couldnt even find it to boot from. I at this point, decide im going to install over puppy on my 3GB hard drive, so I goto my main PC (Win XP) and remember about Unbuntu, so I head to their site https://www.ubuntu.com/ I find the download, and think, Ill try and be nice, ill use the Torrent, well BitTorrent starts and reports it will take 4.5 hours, fair enough, I go out with my friends and call home at 10 to see how the download went, Im told its complete, so I help them shut the PC down (It had been attacked, and the firewalls were showing warnings) I got home today, spent some time on the net, couldnt find any horror storys reffering to Ubuntu, so I burnt the ISO to the CD (Only needed 1) and just before I boot the older PC up, I switched to the 8.5GB hard disk, I dunno why I thought it would make any difference, It just did. So I changed the BIOS to boot from CD, and then restart, a few seconds later, I have this absolutely beautiful screen, instructing me to just press enter, suddenly beauty becomes the beast, a horrible blue screen with white borders, and a very horrible interface, so I follow the instructions and get through screen after screen of nonsense, selecting options, it then does a red bar loading screen after loading screen, not telling me what the tools actually are (like SuSE does) so I get passed this, it screams at me for not having the DHCP working yet (Ill do that later), so it tells me to remove the CD and when done, it reboots the machine. At this point I expect a nice beautiful screen to await me, instead no such a gift, I get Grub LOADING, and then it loads the kernel, then takes 1 hour to do the following, all just white text, scrolling down A. List every single package B. Move the packages to where they should be C. Unpack it all D. Setup E. Configure It took me about an hour, and whole way through it had "Critical Error, font config file cant be loaded" and just about the last thing it actually creates is the font config file. So it then proceeds to boot Ubuntu, and it shows me a BEAUTIFUL login screen, one that makes XP jealous, I try to log in, for it to only moan I had casing wrong on my username, so I finally get in, the desktop loads within 10 seconds, amazing for a Pentium Celeron 333MHZ with 96MB RAM. When it loads, it loads Gnome and its a very nice browny/dark orange. It looks Terrific! And the menus are so nice and beautiful, applications load fast enough for me. The system is a dream. Ubuntu is a VERY nice system, it only has one draw back, the installer is the ugliest thing ive ever encountered. Puppy Linux is 50 MB and does a better job. I hope by the time the next release is made, they have improved it. Its such a spoil for such a nice graphically enchanced system.

Too many to list basically, its kinda something you need to play with and see for yourself, take the 1.0 tree and make it more mature and youve got 1.1

London Under Terrorist Attack 6 Bombs
Trekkie101 replied to Trekkie101's topic in General Discussion
The first reports never indicated many people were hurt, after saying terrorist attack, I didnt want to cause too much fear but the first reports basically were just saying, 2 killed, 45 injured, which to me wasnt many when versed against Madrid and New York. But it is none the less a terrible thing. -
Well, its a 200KB file, so you can look but basically, better admin panel, new features (possibly in other softwares that smf lacked) a lot really, you really need to see it to believe it. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Thats the changelog.
