An ipod is by far the easiest to use due to the clickwheel: this is probably what put it above the rest.I have an ipod, but also I have a Creative Muvo: whilst I store all my music on my ipod, the Muvo as a flash player is brilliant: whilst lest songs, I can jog/cycle with it and it is virtually indestructable: you can stand on it and even throw it out of a second storey window and it bounces (I've tried)Sound quality is still good, it is easy to use, and due to the replaceable battery, the battery life is completely dependant on how many spare batteries you can fit in a pocket

160 Gb 5400 Rpm Vs 200 Gb 4200 Rpm Which is better
dastrophy replied to Watermonkey's topic in Hardware Workshop
In my experience, you should always go for the fastest system disk you can: faster booting, loading of files and page file speed (Windows) are the best you can have: games run faster, and video/audio editing runs faster. For a system disk, you probably don't need as much space as possible unless you know you will never fill the larger size, but will fill the smaller size: why? Because if you buy an external Hard drive, you will end up storing ALL of your large files on it (especially multimedia), because you will prefer to keep it all together (as some people may have found out) Since the cost for external hard-drives is plummeting, whilst the cost of internal hard-drives is pretty much constant, upgrading space will always be cheaper, but upgrading the speed of a system dirve, especially in a laptop is just not worth it after you have bought it... -
I agree, it is probably not worth it to buy liquid cooled chips, unless you already have a liquid cooled system which you can easily link in with. A standard heat sink, for less is perfectly fine, proving all other components on your computer are cooled well: if not then they do have a high chance of overheating.I suppose liquid cooled is quieter then most other methods of cooling, and it can look good if you have a display computer. As for speedwise, anyone here ever needed RAM that fast? Save $200 dollars and spend it on the graphics card! It probably is faster to play games on as well!

For a standard desktop computer, like one for the kids, just to browse the internet, word process and play basic games, AMD wins hands down: same processing power, half the price. For games, the Athlon FX is pretty fast, and can probably match most of the Intel Extreme editions as well, for a reduced cost as well.....so whilst the most expensive extreme edition may beat the AMD, it is only just: and it costs alot more for that tiny bit: so much so, it is barely worth it.As for everything inbetween, the arguement above is long enough....However, AMD does not completely own the market: In laptops, the Core 2 Duo, by Intel is by far the best on the market, and nothing AMD have produced so far can even come close for efficiency and power: the Turion is still a long way off. What should prove interesting though is how the quad-core battle resolves itself, since AMD and Intel have used two completely different architectures for their new processors(As for server processors, the Xeon has been used so much, AMD never really stand a chance)

I have been using Nero products for over 6 years now, and I have never found any reason to complain: every erro I have ever encountered, I know is due to hardware/dirty disks, and never due to nero: the "lite" version which is often supplied free with bought CD/DVD writers is a perfectly adequate replacement for using Windows XP own version. As for the full version, it has more options then you probably ever need unless you burn CD's for a living, and is still eay to use: nice layout: fast to load and burn and not too badly priced either: especially if you also get it free

Yeah, this especially useful if you have a USB mouse but PS2 keyboard when your computer crashes, and blocks all USB...however it never got built into laptops in the same way....I wonder why....However, I still own a keyboard so old that it connects via the old PS2 ports, and it has speciallist mouse keys, not doubling as a numberpad, and have a seperate connection via an old serial port, perhaps I'll take a picture of it as a laugh....(I also have a computer so old it doesn't have a mouse AT ALL, so this is the only way to move the cursor! 10MB hard drive, 256kb ram....5.25" floppy: beat that!)

Apparently the reason it costs so much is that it comes with a three computer license as opposed to a standard one computer license. From the reviews I have heard, apparently it is better then some of the previous Norton releases, aqnd cheaper, per computer, but still takes up a lot more system resources then some other antivirus. Personally I wouldn't buy it anyway, since F-Secure 2007 beats it in every aspect, but the idea of a full antivirus, and backup package in one is not a bad idea, and I expect other companies will soon release their own version of it, which should be better.

A Way To Get More Space And Bw by credits
dastrophy replied to khalilo's topic in Web Hosting Support
I'd agree with BuffaloHelp: if you want anymore bandwidth, pay for it; if you are using that much bandwidth either:-You should be hosting files on another file server: uploadit, megaupload etc.-You should be putting really large images on a free image loader-You get ALOT of visitors.otherwise 10BG of bandwidth is good for 10000 visitors a month!and if you get ALOT of visitors, then a small advert will be more then enough to cover all hosting expences, and you may even be able to generate excess income: $3.33 a month shouldn't be that hard........unless of cause you are hosting illegal files, which means you can't put them on a file server, nor place ads on your site.....what was your url again -
What Graphics Card Company Is Better? i want advise
dastrophy replied to TaKeN's topic in Hardware Workshop
Personally Nvidia, as it is a better chipset for running games on: though Ati is better for video decoding, movie editing, and movie watching, so it depends on what you prefer....though Ati do tend to be a bit cheaperPlus despite the denials, Ati chips are less reliable, as I have had several cases of Ati chips blowing, but none so far of Nvidia chipsets blowing! -
Apparently, upon searching the internet, the most likely thing is the DVD writer: especially if it is a LG 8042b: just se the complaints at http://www.siliconguide.com/qa/question/55/ ! Since Windows can not even see the disk, It would either be harware or Windows itself, and I presume since you have Service Pack 2, that your computer is fairly up to date with patches, it is highly unlikeky to be Windows. But if you search google for "LG DVD Writer problems", there is quite a long list, hence why I suspect it is the writer. If you still have the receipt/warranty I recommend you take it back/get a refund/replacement!

Facebook....the New Os or something similar
dastrophy replied to itrainmonkeys's topic in Science and Technology
Like perhaps Bebo or something, developers can also write their own applications for Faebook and submit them.Facebook has a lot of advantage's over previous networks because it is far more secure, with the ability to customize exactly what others/your friends see about you, the applications add all sorts of fun or practical functionality to your homepage, and it is no longer aimed at just students at uni, but rather expanded to include businesses!Unlike many of the other social networks though, Facebook is fast loading as it is both well scripted, and doesn't have a ton of random rubbish themes etc.Being on Facebook, all I can say is: it beats all other network's that I've used....easily! -
In theory I have an 8Mbit/s connection, but the actual speed I get is around 5Mbit/s (I'm in the U.k)It's the 4GB monthly cap that annoys me, but then again I don't use that connection when I want to download stuff....don't we love it when you have extra access to a 100Mbit/s internet connection

It really does annoy me when people steal flash, especially as it is so easy to download free editable .fla files from people who are keen to distribut content....Usually the best way is to prevent right-click's but even better is use php script to embed it, so that the actual link is impossible to recover....the only problem is that internet explorer downloads most of it to the cache which is annoying...By far the best way is to watermark everything you have: if the thief is willing to sit for a few hours removing a watermark completely from the flash, then they probably know how to make their own and really, really like yours (and so probably asked to borrow it already)

If you can't delete in safemode: it is either a virus, system file or corrupt. If it is a system files, booting into an alternate operating system via CD should allow you to delete it (try searching for a free boot CD which allows NTFS/Fat32 editing, depending on what you have)If it still doesn't delete, then most likely it is corrupt: run a complete check disk on the hard drive to see if it can pick up on it....Unfortunately, if none of these work, the only option left is reformat the drive that is on....if it is a small file, sadly it is easier to just leave it alone...if the dl was an archive, try extracting everything except the known corrupt files.

Chemistry isn't that bad, and as a result I'll prove it: these are the names of chemicals which are accepted as their proper names, including:Arsole (no I'm not swearing) : Arsenic on a 5-membered carbon ringMegaphoneCummingtonite : so called because it was found in Cummington, Massachusetts (My favourite)Moronic AcidArabitol (as opposed to a burrow I suppose)Windowpane (desribing the shape)Uranate : Uranium Oxide'sFucol: a sugar...actuallyPenguinone and Dogcollarane (again shape)and there are many more!

The reason K2O is stable is because of the O2- superoxide's preferential in the conditions, thus causing a stronger bond then ordinary oxygen. The superoxide is similar in idea to ozone, since the excess of oxygen causes various bond shifts to form the most stable product. Usually this is due to charge ratios: but here, the oxygen's high electronegativity means that the 2- on oxygen is more stable than a 2+ on potassium This is again similar to nitrous oxide, which doesn't exist as a single molecule, but instead is regarded as a mixture of di-atomic nitrogen and one oxygen covalently bonded, or an oxygen ion bonded to a positive diatomic nitrogen (see the diagrams on wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nitrous_oxide) (And if your wondering, nitrogen is absorbed into the blood stream when inhaled and acts in a similar way to alcohol on the brain)

This is similar to the Student Edition of Office. Apparently there are several schemes that microsoft live by:The first is random testing: apparently 1 in some large number of them require you to phone/e-mail/fax etc microsoft with a proof of studentship/receipt of purchase for the required software. The second is the registration process: as you may know, when registering by product activation, it takes down details including motherboard id, and compares it to a personal list of computer parts or similar to check what the computer is, and whether it is a prebuilt pc, etc. - some distributions may require this: no idea what happens if it failsThe third (and most common) is that OEM software is only supplied to people who sell pc components and is only available to people when they purchase a piece of hardware. (apparently a mouse is counted as an essential pice :-P)However, sometimes none of these apply, and there are no checks at all, microsoft presume that you bought it through the third option and as a result you can in theory use it on anything: also microsoft presumes you have bought a computer/ built one to actually want to buy a new operating system: what's the point in buying it if it already came on a purchased computer!

Yeah, it makes XP look good, but this really isn't the best way to do it, rather most people prefer to have just certain bits form Vista, like the transparent windows (which acer supplies free with their laptops), the black start menu layout, (which can be downloaded as Vista Start menu (http://www.vistastartmenu.com/index.html)) or perhaps the side bar : try yahoo widgets: more functionality, and the new version uses a tenth of the system resources! As for the above download, for future reference, the megaupload link is not required, since you can download it for free from http://www.crystalxp.net/ without having download limits (and it is faster)Though I would be fairly wary of this: apparently this pack is fairly unreliable, and can cause irrecoverable damage to your operating system since it edits system files in order to achieve some of the effects. But if you are willing to risk that for a better looking interface, why not use a mac os interface, also available from http://www.crystalxp.net/ alot better!!!

Despite that rather small post, I do agree that Call of Duty is an awesome game: the only problem is that it is very processor intensive: farcry can deliver better graphics at half the processing power! However the uniqueness of all the missions mean that as an FPS it is ideal! It can keep the player interested in the game, without having to rely on frustratingly difficult puzzles to keep it going, and it even has a followable plot (!)So? One of the best FPS on the market because of this!

Zero hour is an amazing add on with the ability to specialize: and it is also good for teaching you to use other units then you usually do: so if you tend to use lots of tanks, becoming the air force general forces you to rething how to play. However, when it was originally sold it may not have been woth its original expansion pack price, but now you can pick up the deluxe pack (or even the first decade pack) for cheap enough to justify it being a truly amazing add on!!!

Is Voip Good Technology? what are your thoughts

The one problem that I found with Skype is that it is TOO bandwidth efficient: sometimes you get bad audio because it is only using a hundreth of your bandwidth, and also as a result, video calling suffers very badly: (even MSN live messenger can beat Skype if you know what you are doing!!)Better would be a service which allowed you to set how much bandwidth you would prefer to use, and as a result get quality based on that....anyone know a decent one? -
Yeah, I agree, but unfortunatley both latops are fairly bulky, and neither have what could be said to be "portability" on their side (i.e. medium battery life and fairly heavy)As for which to choose it depends on what you want: as a rule, Dell has always been the more reliable of the two brands, whereas Alienware can be cheaper for a higher spec. (but watch out, it can be more expensive!!)If you do get the Alienware, I highly recommend the three year warranty with it as well.In performance terms, they tend to be pretty similar, and both would easily be capable of flight sim, aoe or civ: I have a acer which is capable of runnung those at half the price (btw small plug for an acer: cheap and cheerful yet still have some power)Since both have dedicated graphics, with a core 2 duo processor, they can run anything except the most modern gamesPersonally I would consider two things: how reliable you want it to be, and since you want to use it while travelling, how portable it is, and despite Typomage's protest, the Dell may just push ahead of the Alienware in both cases (but check just in case)

I decided not to upgrade to Vista until it had reached at least service pack 1. This was mainly because for previous operating systems like XP, when it finally became stable....However, for those who want to "try before they buy", and have a broadband internet connection, just search google for:Microsoft Vista leaked linksFor links to direct downloads from Microsoft's host website of Vista upgrade, which if you have a computer with a large harddrive, you can install over a trial of xp etc. on a seperate partition...
