  1. Wow, you seem to have a lot of plans for this game. However, I still don't see much in the way of storyline yet :)A story is a very important part of a game like this. One you have a story laid out, you also have another problem to work out. How are you going to make all of theses systems, and what are you building this game from?
  2. No, not necessarily. I personally am using Xubuntu as my Desktop OS right now. It runs alot faster than windows for most things. For instance, anyone who has tried Net Beans IDE on windows knows how it can sometimes be too slow to even bother using. I installed it on Linux the other day, and while it was still not quite the speed you'd like, it was noticeably faster than on windows.
  3. Yeah, I suppose all in all it's different for every person. I personally was not actively online when I started Game Development, so the same mistakes people go through alot I could not learn from them because I was never exposed to their mistakes. Nevertheless, I started big projects that neer got finished, however I learned some pretty important skills in trying to accomplish an unreachable goal.
  4. You can learn game design (not creation, just design) from click and create makers. Plus, most of the new ones have Object Oriented scripting languages. I know many people, including myself, who started learning programming from makers like that, and now we're all on to coding our own engines from scratch. As for the experience, the idea is that you learn from your mistakes. Almost everyone's first game is way too ambitious and never gets done. HOWEVER, seeing your project fail is the perfect way to learn just how much effort it takes to make a quality game. Then after you fail miserably the first time, you ssee you'd better start out small. if you never try that huge first project, however, you'll be left wondering what it would have been like. It's best to find out sooner than later.
  5. Well, I think the one thing that Linux users and Windows users can agree on is that Windows kicks the crap out of Linux for gaming, and Linux kicks the crap out of Windows for developing.
  6. Well, the "Retard engines" that you talk about are actually alot better than you think, and especially good for a beginner. I could show you some people who can program very well, however they have no game making experience at all so they couldn't make a decent game to save their lives. Starting with RPG Maker or Game Maker is probably a good step for a starting game developer. It's a great way to learn how to make games without needing to learn code at the exact same time. In addition, RPG Maker XP is a great platform to start learning Object Oriented Programming. I started on RMXP myself, using RGSS, and now I code my own engines from scratch. All around, if you can get access to RPG Maker or Game Maker for your first game, you want to do that. My last words of wisdom for you (OP) are these: If you want to make an MMO, go for it. Just be aware that you will probably not finish it. Just try to take whatever experience you can from making however much you do make so later on you can come back and make an MMO that's even better than you may be planning right now.
  7. I myself just started using Xubuntu. It's actually pretty cool so far. It's so pretty compared to windows that it hurt my head for the first couple of days. XD The only real disappointment I have is the lack of product support for it, but I knew that when I installed it ahead of time. That's why I do a dual boot and put windows on it too
  8. Actually, if you made this php forum yourself, you could just make it use a flatfile database And if you didn't make it, you could still theoretically change it so that it uses a flatfile database but that would be a pain.
  9. Yes, that is very true. So yeah, I could have multiple sites. But eventually I would run out of space or bandwidth XD
  10. Well, if you want to make games and you've never done it before, the first thing you have to decide is what you;re going to build it with. You could program it yourself, which would give you alot more freedom than if you went with an easier Game Creation Software. If you don't already know how to program, I would recommend using a game creation software for your first few games. Many exist that you can try. Among the most popular are RPG Maker and Game Maker.
  11. Heh, yeah. the hosting here is pretty great. Too bad you can only have one account
  12. Heh, Lucky my mail wasn't affected by this. I really should start backing up my mail somehow, huh? Either way, I trust Google ^^
  13. Hmm, I've been working on my Pixel Art skills recently. Hopefully I'll remember to make a shop for this . I'll probably make a sweet Gamne Development Shop *nods sagely*
  14. Well, as to what a collage is I believe that has been answered. As for Pre AP ELA, I believe that refers to Pre Advanced Placement English Language Arts
  15. Hmm, this does look like some pretty interesting planning for mechanics, however you don't seem to have much along storyline. Actually, you have none! Now, you may not necessarily know what you want to do for a story, however if you don't have a story you probably shouldn't have a title either! :PMy reccomendation to you would be to start working on your story now, then choose a title based on the story. If you choose a title now, it may limit you later if you try to force the story to fit into the title.
  16. Ha ha, I kinda doubt they count it out exactly. I'm, sure they just weigh it.
  17. Umm, actually, what makes the sun do what it does is nuclear reactions already. We would probably not even notice a Nuke hitting the sun.
  18. Yeah, I think it would be cool if Trap 17 had some sort of compitition based off of this site. That would get a bunch of people to go and play the game.
  19. This is only like 10 minutes worth:You have now donated3140 grains of rice.
  20. I believe a newspaper parady is something like The Onion. It's a newspaper that prints fake stories for laughs.
  21. I still say the best bet is just to wait until you know what you want to do. You should know when the need arises for you to get a site. It's generally not going to work out if you get a site for the sake of having a site.
  22. Hehe, will I would reccomend waiting to make a website until you already know what you want to make. I don't think there's very many of us here who made a website for the heck of it XDMy site is about Game Development. Specifically it is for the game development team ENVIZION. We started expanding (way back when we were Blue Knights XD) and we decided we need to move. This is actually the third place we've been. Our other hosts only allowed us forums, which were inadequate.
  23. Ha ha, I've never heard that one before. Now we're starting to get more original XDLet's here some more guys! I'll come up with some more too.
  24. Hey, your name reminds me of System.out.println() :PSo, welcome to Xisto. I'd like to see some videos of your magic if you have any at all^^
  25. Q.Why do fools fall in love?A. Becuase the sky is blueQ.Why is the the sky blue?A. 'cause of all the water up there!
