I would like to setup an FTP account for users of my website, but I'm not too sure how to do it. I'm using Joomla for a website, and the members who register can submit Articles in certain sections. I would like most of the images in these articles stored locally(also to get some functions, they need certain extensions on the file name, which a free host cannot do). So I would like there to be an FTP account that members can access and upload images too, but not delete any of them. Thanks.

Another you could try is eliminating as much sugar out of your diet as possible. I think this may work for some people, but it will help a little bit. Another thing is if you try something and dont see results, it may be that you just need to give it time. Dont be so fast to think something's never going to work, and you when find something that does make sure you stick to it and not stop because you're seeing improvements.

Network Outage. Distribution Switch Ddosed. Lesson Learnt
Carson replied to OpaQue's topic in Alerts, News & Announcements
I've had all sorts of problems with my account. I got the "unable to connect to database" error, timeouts, php not working, server not found errors. Seems to be working fine for now though. -
Has Anyone Ever Seen This Before? Permission Denied on FTP Client
Carson replied to Revan's topic in Web Hosting Support
So you solved the problem? I had this exact problem with a Joomla template a couple of days ago. What I did was download it back to computer, re-name the template folder on the host, and re-upload it again from my computer. After that I could change all the permissions. I also uploaded the files in .zip from the file manager so there was no FTP error. I'm not sure though, at first I thought it was the template authors trying to protect their work, making the templates un-editable. -
Okay what the hell. Maybe you should send her a PM instead of writing stuff like that. And it's not that she has a slow internet connection because she said it had loaded fast previously. I'm having the same problems too. I'm currently creating a website where you edit the articles from the actual website. When I goto save them, the page just stops loading, and I loose all the work I did. This has happened to me several times now...

This tutorial is about how to setup a website after you have setup a forum. That means, you have a forum, and are wanting to add a website. This tutorial will show you how to create the website in your root directory(Example: http://www.domainname.com/), while your traffic gets redirected to your forum while you are creating it, until you're ready for guests to see it. This method is opposed to setting it up in another directory, then moving it(particularly more time consuming if you're site is PHP based). First of all, you are going to want to setup a redirect from your root directory to your forum directory. To do this, login to your CPanel, then under "Site Management Tools" goto "Manage Redirects". On this page you should see your subdomain of Xisto with an input box at the end. Leave this box empty. Doing so will redirect your root directory. Now moving across to the next box, type in your domain/subdomain where your forum is located. For example: "http://myDomain.com/forums/;. Dont forget to use www. if your forum has problems without. Some forums will log you out because of cookies if www. is or isnt included in the URL. Leave the drop-down box on temporary, and click "add". Now goto your domain/subdomain in your browser. You should be redirected to your forum. If not, read back over the redirecting part of the tutorial and see what you did wrong. If you use an index.php file in your root directory, this method will not work(unless you use .html, but it is easier to use this method) Next is to install/upload your website. This should contain and index file. Goto your domain this time adding the index file to the url. For Example: http://yourdomain.com/index.php. Now all that is left to do is create your website. It is in it's final location so there is no need to move it anywhere, and when it is finished, you just have remove the redirect in your CPanel, and its all done.

I purchased my Domain from Xisto - Domains to support Xisto. The good thing is they already have the nameservers set up, so it took me minutes to get everything working. Thanks for the help guys.

110mb Hosting What happened to FREE hosting?
Carson replied to Atthack's topic in General Discussion
Well some of us from back in the days had some of those features. I sent my ID and had made over 50 posts on their forums, so I have 99 MySQL databases and Sendmail enabled. The account is actually worth something and I dont even use it. I use Xisto for my hosting, but I still have access to the account. 110mb.com almost destroyed my forum, so I moved here. Amazingly I still have the same Database, I had to export the data section by section of each table in CV form. Thats how messed up it was. Retrieving over 200kb from my database was impossible. Though they're better now, I had to move. -
Those prices are very good. Thanks for the link. Okay this is a good example. They have .com domains for 7.99USD. So if I purchase a domain for 7.99, will I have to pay an additional amount for a transfer? I dont actually know what the "transfer" involves...

I have finally decided to purchase a domain name for my site, but while I was searching through sites that offer domain names, I came across something I don't quite understand. There is a price for purchasing the domain name, but then there is a transfer price. I have never bought a domain name before, so I don't know really anything about this. If I purchase a domain name, do I also have to pay for a transfer? Also, does anyone recommend a domain site? I have found some I like, but I may as well get some recommendations from the users here. I've seen topics that say there are domains for 9.99/yr(for example), but is this the total cost? Or is a transfer cost additional? Sorry I am very new to this.

Thanks for the reply. I didnt touch my database, although I have it backed up daily. Also my disk space has gone down to 196mb. I'm gonna backup my database and use an old backup to try and restore it. I have no idea why it did that.

This morning i ran out of credits, but I immediately got them back up to 7. All day I've been trying my site, and it keeps timing out, and on the odd occasion comes up with a MySQL error. I was just able to login to my cpanel, and my space usage was 550mb. Yesterday is was approximately 256mb, and i didnt upload anything. I had to delete files to get it back down to 470, but I cant find what has made it so big. Now I get a MySQL error on my forum. What do I do?
-
I'm still getting the MySQL errors, and I can't login to my cpanel even though I have 7 credits. I did hit -4 today, but that was hours ago. If I can't login because of my credits, then why am I getting a mySQL error? Looks like everyone's having these problems, so hope it's all fixed soon.

Need Help Identifying Spider I do have arachnaphobia you know...
Carson replied to csp4.0's topic in Home & Garden
I don't recognize the spider in the first post. The biggest spider here that I've seen is a pathetic 4cm. We have nothing like the spiders in those pictures, and no poisonous ones(except the white-tale which arrived recently from Australia I believe). In fact that's the only poisonous thing we have, how boring is that? I have seen some cool spiders from America though. Sometimes they get caught in shipping containers(although they are dead after they arrive so there is no risk of immigration). Most people are afraid of spiders, but I like them. I heard somewhere that the phobia is because of the way the spiders move, that makes people scared. -
I agree, a relationship needs trust. Though it depends on the relationship, if you're just playing around, in serious. I think when there's not enough a trust in a serious relationship, and there are suspicions, it is best to end it. If you really care about someone and they go and cheat, it doesn't feel good, so why take a risk when you know something is going to happen? If you don't trust them and want a serious relationship, say goodbye because it just isn't worth it.

I like the spiderman movies, that are quite well done. Though Spiderman 3 was probably my least favorite out of the three. It found it actually a bit strange in parts, when Peter puts on the black suit and it changes his personality. But I did like the bad guys in this one, and the sand guy was especially well done. They made his scenes flawless.

What Is Your Technique For Waking Up Out Of A Dream?
Carson replied to GrinningKittie's topic in General Discussion
I cannot wake myself up, or even control any part of a dream. Actually, I find it hard to believe that anyone can do this. No offense to anyone of course. When you are dreaming, you are asleep, so how is it possible to move? Surely you are not conscience and can move around as if you are awake, or control what happens in your dream(I would love to do that). Maybe it feels like you can control it just because it's yourself you are dreaming as, so when you do something if feels you're in control, but it's actually just the dream and anything can happen, which out of your control. Anyway, to stop dreams just get really tired, and you will not be able to remember your dreams. If you wake up after a dream you will fall asleep so fast that you will not remember.(works for me atleast) -
Do You Believe In Astrology? The Personality part or The Futeure
Carson replied to Wynter's topic in Health & Fitness
I definitely do not believe in Astrology. This is just impossible. No once can ever predict the future(i'm not talking about events. For example, people you're going to meet, things that happen to you etc.). Every single thing that happens is all completely in random. When you think about it, every person on earth is here by amazing coincidence. For example, someones great great great grandfather is walking down a street, right? Say if it was running, he walks to fast to get out of it, and suddenly bumps into a woman. This woman eventually becomes his wife and she is pregnant, and so the cycle of life. Now, lets say it wasn't running. Then the great great great grandfather would have never meet the woman, and that someone would not have been born. Now think about why the great grandfather was walking. Maybe he dropped some milk, so had to go out to the shop. What if he never dropped the milk? He would never have to goto the shop. And never meet the woman. There are an un-countable amount of the smallest events that eventually lead to a specific person being born. If it wasn't for something as small as the weather 500 years ago, I wouldn't exist. Every single little thing that ever happens is by complete random. -
I think he is already her boyfriend. She said she is dating him.

I think I can change that to suit what I want. Thanks a lot karlosantana. I would have never found that on my own.

I'm surprised SmartFTP hasn't been mentioned in this topic. I thought it would have been. I use SmartFTP Client. It was one of two FTP Clients that some software I was installing for the first time recommended. Been using it ever since. I have tried others like Filezilla(the other recommended FTP program), but SmartFTP, in my opinion, is the best. Though, I am slightly biased.

I have looked around many IPB support sites, but I didn't find a suitable drop-down menu add-on that I liked or worked correctly. I have noticed the drop down menus on this forum on other forums, and I was wondering if this was custom to this site or there was a tutorial somewhere which shows how to make one similar to this? Or if anything, I basic IPB drop down menu tutorial/add on. Thanks.

Hey now that could be fun. But if you have a girlfriend not in your country then why do you want a ninja girlfriend? You may as well tell them to pretend to act like a ninja. What makes you a ninja? Knowing Ninjutsu? I obviously I don't know anything about it, but I have heard that word on tv and movies before.

From experience, thats right. And that is what I meant. But, it's only a bit of muscle pain, nothing you'll die from. I figure this will bring maximum improvement. Besides, if you do not feel muscle pain you are not really improving that much. It's to have it because you know you are improving.

You could do sets of them, with a set amount of push-ups. Or, if you really want to improve, you do as many as you can each time. Whenever you have time during the day(If you don't, then before you goto bed and/or wakup, its up to you), do as many press-ups as you can, push yourself to your absolute limit. Twenty will be simple in no time.
