  1. Vaseline works for sure - and you can get damned good effect with different swipes, as in, you can put a dab of vaseline and then swirl in around on the lens or make horizontal/vertical/cross-hatch patterns etc. You can experiment loads with this thing. BUT - always be CAREFUL - you should NEVER put vaseline on your lens directly. Make sure, you've got some cheap UV/Polarizer covering the main lens. It is on this filter that you apply vaseline. The problem is while taking is off (ONLY DO IT using a soft tissue) you might accidentally scratch the lens. So it's always advisable to have a clear filter when you're trying these antics Secondly, a suggestion - this always worked better in creating diffusion shots for me. Use KY-Jelly - or some other commonly available lubricant in the market - it works 100 times better than vaseline. Vaseline in most cases, ends of obscuring a whole of details - and you end up compromising on the quality of the shot. With CLEAR lubricants like KY-Jelly, the light gets scattered and diffused all right, but the through-and-through effect makes your pictures very sharp, yet diffused. Give it a try Hehe.. what better use of Ky-Jelly could you get
  2. If by strange result you mean this (the first result listed): then even I'm wondering WHAT THE HELL is that.. really, I haven't come across something as strange as that ever before.
  3. Hold you horses dude It's not 10 posts - now the rules are 10 credits for Starter Package and 30 for Regular/Upgrade. Right now you've got 8 credits - so it'll be 2 more to get the basic/starter package. As of now - we don't consider how many posts you've made - but the amount of credits you've acquired for these posts. Depending on your post content/size you can get 10 credits with just 1 post - or in case your posts are just one liners it might take you forever to acquire those 10. So make sure your posts are good and informative - and of course, ORIGINAL WORKS, i.e. NOT COPIED from other sites. A copied post here means immediate disqualification for hosting. All the best ;)m^e
  4. Aaah PuTTy - my love.. I couldn't travel a mile without PuTTy on my Flash Drive It's one of the most useful utilities I've come across in recent times - and I'd give it a straight 10/10 in terms of usefulness and another 10/10 on overall everything (lightweight, extremely fast, hordes of features)...Incidentally, you might consider using WinSCP too - which is the Secure version of FTP - from what I gathered, it uses the PuTTy engine in the background to connect and then makes the FTP transfers ride on this SSL link. Very handy.
  5. You got me there PunkAngel. I'm a die-hard Sims fan. Give me any kind of Sims and I'd be stuck with it for forever. With Sims 2 it's a different story altogether. It is said, that human beings spend a greater part of their life SLEEPING. I spent the maximum free time of my life till now playing the whole Sims series and now Sims 2. I'm utterly crazy about that game.. Recently I came across Singles 2 - that one's a Double Whopper - though you can't do as much as you can do in Sims... But the good part about Singles 2 is that it's got a storyline & missions - sort of a crossbreed between Simulation and RPG.Welcome to Xisto and have a great stay
  6. oops.. multibyte eh ? It completely slipped my mind.. ok.. a couple of more days again and it'll be there
  7. Yup absolutely correct. No it won't matter if you create a non-bootable cd. As long as you have Ghost Rescue Disk - or some other disk that will let you:1. Boot 2. Use CD Drive 3. Run ghost.exe from somewhere (maybe the same disk itself) - You're fine.. Once you boot and run Ghost, you can keep putting in the ghost image cds one after the other and restore your partition. The method I stated - gives you a little more flexibility in the sense that you can Boot, Create/Edit Partitions and then run Ghost and do a restore - all from the same CD/DVD. Not the partitionmagic rescue disk. When you install partition magic, if you choose Full Install, a partitionmagic for DOS also gets installed in your installation folder. You'll have to pick a couple of files from there .. as far as i remember, PQMAGICDOS.EXE or something similar..
  8. Hello Frank,[tab][/tab]On behalf of the staff, I extend you a warm welcome to Xisto. Have an enjoyable stay :)Regards,m^e
  9. Ya very simple.. Now you call http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ because, you forum software's index.php and all other files have been installed under /public_html/forums/ directory. Surely you know that whatever is in your public_html directory gets shown in the browser.. So if you unzip your forum software into the public_html dir, then it's index.php will be available right there - and will show up in the browser as http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ So all you need to do it move your whole forum software files out of your "forum" directory and place them under public_html.
  10. They can't really be called our grandchildren. In fact they'll read in their history books - "We evolved from this prehistoric animal named human, a couple of billion years ago."
  11. Yeaa, naturally. Coz the server IP might change anytime. That is why we have the whole NameServer concept.. lol. anyways, very funny domain control I must say.
  12. Hey hold on a sec.. what was that ? Human tongue please Sorry - but this is an English only board. So please limit the display of your linguistic skills to English.. Thanks,m^e
  13. Really awesome I hope it spread damned quick.. And all this while I was getting happy that they're implementing ADSL2+ all over India..
  14. Ahaa thanks for the sweet reminder evought. PoBox.Com is in all probablity the oldest redirection service alive. I started using it WAY back during 1995 or so.. and it used to offer free accounts then. Of course in the following years such a plethora of email services offering a diverse variety of features (including email forwarding) came out that I completely forgot about them... Feel great to hear that they're still alive and going strong
  15. No, not really. WinImage doesn't replace ghost. See there are two methods, right ?? The extremely error prone on-the-fly, and the much safer write to disc and then burn. Ok so we take the second approach. Now in either of these approaches, you can tell Ghost to make the first cd bootable. Then you won't need to boot using any other utility, but instead can boot straight off the ghost cd and write out the partition. BUT, for this, you need to show ghost a location where it can find the Boot Image. It's going to ask you to insert a bootable floppy into Drive A and get the image from there. Now with this boot floppy (which in 99% cases is a 1.44MB one) - you can either put a ready-made boot image (from Win98) or create a tailor made image by adding/deleting some files from it. My biggest problem was my system doesn't have a floppy drive - leave alone floppies. Another problem was I wanted to put a whole bunch of tools (like the DOS-based Partition Magic, a couple of other drivers & utilities) on the boot floppy. But 1.44MB is very limiting - and I'd have to compromise one tool for the other. This is where WinImage really came to help. It supports creation of Image Files in a very WIDE variety of formats - including linux variants. You can either write out the image in form of a file - which you can use with Nero to create bootable CD's - or write it directly to a Floppy. What I did was, I created a 2.88MB boot image - and stuffed PartitionMagic, Ghost.exe and several other tools comfortably into it. Then I told Ghost to make me spanned disk images WITHOUT A BOOT IMAGE (coz I have it ready separately)... Then I used Nero - told it to use that boot image on the first CD along with the first spanned volume of Ghost Image. Second Disc onwards, it was just the Ghost image, coz you need to boot ONLY from the first disc. Advantage here is, if you boot using this custom-made image, and you're working on a BLANK hard drive, you've all the tools needed to create/edit/delete/format partitions and then simply restore the Ghost image..which CANNOT be done using a normal 1.44MB boot disk (certainly not with the FDISK included on it... YUCCCK.. I HATE IT). NOTE: BTW, you don't place this Boot Image directly onto the root folder of the first CD. That WONT make it bootable. Instead you've to tell Nero to Create a Bootable CD and then point it to the location of this image file you've created: There - hopefully that will give you a complete picture.. Regards, m^e
  16. Oh great I haven't seen a control panel like this - and certainly not one which won't work with the NS-es.. hmm.. maybe try removing the ns1 and 2 altogether and see if it works.. But this is going to be a problem in future. Try removing the ns-es and let me know.
  17. OOoo.. that's old. Am talking about Nero 6.6.014 .. I think starting from version 6, Nero has that SmartStart thingie - a unified control panel for all the CD/DVD-Burning/Ripping jobs. But still - it should be possible with the older Nero too (although am not SURE whether version 5.x had DVD support)... Here's where you might find the option - check under the main-menu bar: Recorder > Erase Re-writable Disc
  18. Hi folks, ????[/tab]So you need support urgently and right at this moment all the admins have gone AWOL. No one's replying to your PM's nor to your posts. Really dire situation eh ?? ????Not really as bad as you think - as there's a far easier way out than waiting for some godforsaken admin to drop by and fix your problem.. Here's what you need to do: Send a mail to support_AT_astahost_DOT_com. Your mail should include: Your site details (subdomain/domain) cPanel username & password Forum Profile Link Your current amount of credits (optional) And finally, the nature of your problem in as much detail as you can. [tab]Believe me, this is one of the fastest way out, when none of us are there. Except for rare cases and weekends your problem will be taken care of the very same day. Just make sure, you include all the required details as stated in the above list. Regards, m^e
  19. Inspiron: You're partially right in describing RDBMS - indeed the whole concept of Relational Databases arises out of E. F. Codd's 12 rules of Relational Data Management ( A Relational Model of Data for Large Shared Data Banks ). Those rules are supposed to be the basis of most true RDBMS, but many of the more popular systems in the market don't follow all of them... In general opinion is divided about which is a true RDBMS and which is NOT.. but for most part popular enterprise level packages (with SQL support) like MySQL, Oracle, PG-SQL, MS-SQL are all called RDBMS packages.. Infact nowadays any system that supports the tabular storage and presentation of data with various implementable relationships with the help of Keys (primary and foreign) - is called a RDBMS. prashant: MySQL is definitely one of the most popular ones - coz it's both free and opensource and extremely easy to use. It's quite powerful too, although it'll take some more time to catch up with the real enterprise giants. My personal choices are MySQL and PostGRE-SQL.. If I was to go for a commercial alternative, then I'd definitely go for Oracle - no questions asked, coz nothing can beat it's terrific array of features and reknowned stability.
  20. I used to code in VB at one point of time - but now have completely shifted to using the .NET framework. If you've got any questions/discussions on VB.NET and C#.NET shoot away
  21. The scene you've described is the perfect example of what is known as a "Super Nova" in astronomical terms. That's when gaseous bodies like the sun reach their fusion limit and explode into a massive white sphere for a short duration, unleashing a huge electromagnetic storm into the surrounding galaxy. In actuality, a Super Nova isn't the explosion of a dying star.. instead, all the while it was dying, the core of the gaseous body gradually got transformed into heavier and heavier metals and this gradually extends out to quite a big diameter - like a ball of solid metal. Once the fusion limit is reached - all the superheated gaseous molecules that had flown far off during the fusion reaction, come rushing back towards the core (as the reaction there has stopped and there's no more heat driving them outward).. an immense storm of such gaseous particle come rushing in only to be rebounded back the infinitely dense and solid core.. This rebound action spreads these particles way further than they'd travelled during the normal fusion of the core.. this outward storm is what appears as Super Nova. The next step following this is to implode (the opposite of explode) where the whole scattered mass starts to fall back onto itself giving rise to a zone of infinite gravitational pull. For a short while the sub will exist as a body named Pulsar, which rotates just like the sun does, and keeps on emitting X-rays at regular intervals. These can be detected in far-off galaxies as of now.. the pulsating emission gives rise to the name Pulsar. The final step after Pulsar is a singularity we commonly know as a Black Hole. Such events are occuring at tandem given any moment of time everywhere around us and if provided with suitable equipment, none are that difficult to observer (except, of course, the highly debated existence of black holes)...
  22. Didn't work major9. Now instead of saying you got to wait one hour, it says, "You already downloaded 47777MB today. Want to download more ???" lol..
  23. Hi folks,[tab][/tab]This is to inform you that OpaQue has recompiled PHp with GD support on this server. Everything should be fine now. All those who were trying to run GD-enabled applications and failed priorly, should re-check your installations for successful runs. If there are any further complaints, kindly report back in the Hosted Members forum and it'll be taken care of.Regards,m^e
  24. They are DVD-RW right - but usually you don't need to format them unless you're wiping out all data. Anyway, if you have Nero, fire it up and under the Extras option in Nero SmartStart, you'll find links to Erase your DVDs and CDs... Use that to format your DVD and then try. This is very funny though - never heard of it before.
