  1. Honestly, I can't believe that you made this post. Sure, it's just fine that you make suggestions, but this is your first day. I remember when it was my first day (even week) and it took me a bit to get used to the forums. On your first day, it's just kinda ignorant to me critiuquing Xisto. If you're here to get hosted, lol, this is just not a good way to get started. The ads (duh!) are what keeps Xisto running. You can't expect that this service is just altruistic. They have to make money some how. Feel lucky that you don't have to put their ads on your web site. Xisto is among the best hosting services on the Internet, so just learn to appreciate it first, then if you have any recommendations (maybe after a couple weeks experience), then post some suggestions. Personally, I have nothing to ask from from Xisto except that maybe the cPanel get updated. Everything else rocks!
  2. When that's true, that's true. What I mean is, if they know the person. Having watched the news, people could have seen that there were hundreds of people protesting against Terri Schiavo dying, and they were even crying about it, even though they have never even seen her before. The Pope is different because he's a religious leader...
  3. Terry Schiavo just died, and at the time that I write this post, the Pope is on the verge of death. This topic is about Christianity and how so many Christians treat the topic of death.First of all, my point of view on this is that, particularly in the Schiavo case, it is being overblown. I was not personally against letting Terri Schiavo die. She was in a brain-dead state for fifteen years and I'm sure that like myself, most people couldn't honestly say that they would actually want to live that way. Some, with great hope, believed that she had a chance to come out of that state, but like the doctors I doubt that that was at all possible. What good is life if you don't even know you're alive? Why fear death? What's with this "right to life movement"? I think that the fight to preserve life has been greatly overblown. What seems to make even less sense to me is that Christians, of all people, are the ones who so greatly advocate the "right to life." Isn't it the Christian belief that we have heaven to look forward to? Sure it is, or at least generally. So why make such a big deal about a person dying? And of all cases to consider, Terri's seems to make the least sense. She was on a machine and couldn't survive without it or being fed by hand for many hours every day. Shouldn't a Christian think of it as the will of God, should this woman or any person die?And for the Pope, who's health I have been informed of for some time now, has been aided over and over again. Surgery, medicine, and much more. At least the Pope had a will to live and could say so. But if he's dying, why be sad? Tens of thousands of people are mourning because he is dying (and soon because he is dead). In this case I can at least see how the Pope is like a father to the Catholic people, which is worthy of mourning for as a loss. When he is dead, I think it should only make sense that people mourn for their own loss and not for his - because it won't have been a loss for him. Shouldn't those of faith believe that the Pope is in a better place after his death? According to the way that people reacted to Terri Schiavo, it seems that most will be sad because of death in itself, as so many seem to regard it as such a terrible thing.Death is nothing to be afraid of."I was, I am, I am not... I don't care." - Epicurus. Live happy and don't fear death.Comments welcome. Huge debate is not.
  4. One thing in particular that I think is great and very easy for beginners to use is a forum. You can use the phpBB forum provided by Xisto in the cPanel. phpBB = phpBulletinBoards ; php = a web scripting language. Just in case you didn't know. I don't even know how to write php, but was able to make an excellent forum with the phpBB service. And it is customizable too. I learned mostly everything I know about web design by View > Source of other sites (and a LOT of trial and error). I think that by working with the templates (.tpl) files in a forum, if you create one, will be a useful experience. Also, search engines picked-up my forum pages before the main part of my site (for some reason I don't know). So if you have a forum, you will probably get more hits from search engines. Another reason why is that forums collect a lot of information and search engines add them. Xisto is of course and excellent example of this.
  5. I got this too email too. This is what I was able to "extract", if this is what you are looking for. If there is any sensitive information here, Admin, please remove it for me to protect my email account. Thanks.
  6. Basically, it depends on the computer. Some reasons to NOT leave it on all the time are if the situation is: If you're concerned about electricity usage. If the computer gets hot. This can be bad because if you run a load of programs and you can hear your fans roaring, it's a good idea to shut it down or at least put in on standby or hibernate once and a while so it can cool down. This is especially important if you're in a warm environment. Laptops are more likely to get hot quickly. For a desktop that get's hot because of a lot of processes, overclocking, or warm air in the room, it's sometimes a good idea to take the casing off so that it can breathe (unless there's a whole lot of dust in the room). If the room/building is dirty/dusty. Dust and grime will clog the screen for your fan, and if this happens, you're gonna suffer. Usually, air conditioned rooms have cleaner air, but in that case it's also not too hot. If it's not air conditioned, it's more likely to get hot and there's probably more dust. It seems to be a no win situation, but this can depend on other things too. Just make sure your screen and fans are clean and clear so that you don't overheat.<--- Someone please undo that negative point for me , thanks.
  7. I'm using an email address under my domain and had been using Neomail to check it for most of the time that I've been hosted (less than 2 months now). Not long ago I tried Horde and switched to it because it looked nicer. At first, my emails weren't visible in Horde, but later they appeared and I couldn't see them in Neomail anymore (I don't know how this happened or what I did.) But since using it, Horde was giving me trouble so I decided to switch back to Neomail. So I logged into Neomail, but my messages haven't gone back to it. Next, I also wanted to make sure that I could send mail, so I sent an email from my web site account, and didn't recieve it on my external email account. So what the hell is this? Have all the emailed that I have sent not been recieved? I guess that would explain some things... And as for Squirrelmail... that just doesn't work at all. I tried, but couldn't access it.Someone please give me step-by-step instructions to get this working right, if that is possible. Or maybe I should do something completly different. This is annoying, and the only problem I've had with this host.
  8. The question of "Is the Matrix real?" is just one of the things that make The Matrix movies so compelling. You could never know for sure because the Matrix would be a nearly perfect simulation of a/the real world. Such things fascinate me. I own all three of the Matrix movies and have a book about the Matrix and philosophy. The whole movies is jammed with philosophical themes, such as that of Descartes evil genius. Mouse raises another theme about this in the movie when discussing the goop-food and the Lady in the Red Dress. "To deny our own impulses is to deny that which makes us human." This raises the idea about if we really are in the Matrix, then we have an advantage over the machines. "What makes us human," they say, is that we have a choice. In this case, we can choose to deny our own impulses or not. Mouse chooses to indulge in those impulses. Tank, on the other hand, believes that we just need what we need rather than to make choices. He takes the side of reason, while Mouse takes the side of pleasure. And then, this would lead us into a conversation about Plato, concerning the soul - his Dualist perspective saying that we have two parts to our soul: reason and pleasure. I could probably go on and on about the Matrix and philosophy, but I oughtn't go off topic. My opinion about if the Matrix is real: I find it unlikely. But if it is real, it might not be a bad thing. It wouldn't necessarily be that machines control the world. We could be in a matrix right now that is being controlled by humans. Has anyone wondered if his or her life isn't real but actually an elaborate experiment? We might just be a specimen in a tube, being tested to see if it is possible to put a human into a matrix-world. There are so many possibilities when considering if there is a Matrix. Maybe I'm the specimen and the idea of a matrix, as presented by the movie was part of the experiment. Maybe they're testing me to see if I will be able to realize the truth and take control of the system!
  9. Yes! This is an excellent new feature. I just learned about it by reading this topic and already have it integrated into my web site. It blends in wonderfully with my menu. If anyone would like to see an example, you can see it at the bottom of my menu on my web site. There are also examples of all the various types of ad displays that Google's Adsense program offers, here. It will just take time for me to realize how much this will help my income. Buy my site is still new and not yet on Google or Yahoo . But I'm sure that it will help .
  10. I also remember exactly where I was and what I was doing on 9-11-01. At the time I didn't have a clue about what was going on or what the Twin Towers even were. At the time I was living in the Cayman Islands, where I'm originally from. Since then I have moved back to the US (I've gone back a forth a few times) and started college. I'm now half way to my degrees in Political Science and History. I know quite a bit about Bush, the government, and foreign policy. I have also watched Fahrenheit 911 (it wasn't banned, by the way, it was only delayed for release because of a thing I'm not going to go into now). I have had a lot of change in my political outlook about this over the years. At first I was very anti-Bush, anti-Iraq-war and so on. But the more I learn about the things that I've mentioned above, the better my understanding of what's going on and the more neutral I have become about all of this. There is so much to say that I couldn't bare to put it all in a post like this, but I'll skip through my view of this briefly.9-11 attacks:When I first thought about what this was all about, I already understood that they would not have attacked the towers/USA without a reason. I figured that the US had done something to piss them off, and surely they have. The US gov't has had military bases in the mid-East for a long time and have been interfering with these areas for a long time. There is also a cultural issue: the Muslims are disgusted by the culture over here, but are losing some of their people too it (Muslims moving the US, taking part in this "evil" society, etc.). And old scores are probably an issue too.Conspiracy:I never heard of this "911 In Plane Site" before, but it's probably a bunch of crap. People like to make things up like this so make money. Now I'm not saying that there couldn't have been some sort of conspiracy, but if there was, stuff like this movie aren't where to find it - this is simply a way to make some cash, or it's made by people who really enjoy trying to 'unravel the hidden truth' about things for entertainment.Bush:I still think that Bush is a loser president, but he's not crazy and not a complete idiot. I mostly just hate his domestic policy, but I am also skeptical about the Iraq war. There were plenty of reasons to go into Iraq: oil trade, removing potentially threatening power, freeing people, fighting terrorism. The problem that I have with this is that Bush is arrogant. There's a reason why these things weren't done long ago - it's very difficult! But Bush, son of Bush, seems to feel a bit of omnipotence. This is a war that will go on for decades, no question. The invasion of Iraq has only made insurgency expand, the hate for America increase, and the threat of terrorism greater. All good that might come from this whole thing is the hope of helping the Iraqis attain peace and democracy, but if it ever happens it's going to be a long, long, long struggle and not simply done with some petty elections. This war in Iraq is only one of more episodes to come in the future.Neo-conservatism:"NeoCons" are something known best by political scientists (and students) such as myself. It's a new approach to conservatism, which Bush and his Administration (mostly) take their foreign policy approach with. It aims at goals that sound good, and that is primarily the spread of democracy throughout the world. I find it inevitable to happen eventually, but who knows how many centuries that will take. The NeoCons are beginning that process. The problem is, as I see it, is that they focus on the present and expect too much right now. This is why the War in Iraq will fail to be accomplished as they have hoped. Their ideals are good, but they expect too much and think they have more power than they actually do.Iran, N. Korea, etc. They're at least smart enough to do one at a time. Iraq was chosen first because of opportunity and rewards/reasons. The USA just does not have enough power to keep on this "march for democracy". If they think they do, they will weaken the country and, I think, lose their "world power" in the world.I don't feel like writing anymore right now. I will watch this topic and make further responses later. Thanks for reading. Remember, a lot of what I've written might be just my opinion.
  11. I have Norton Anti-Virus and have had it for a long while. I updated everything and still cannot find anything. So I guess that there's no virus? I dunno, but it's agravating. My computer has had these occasional moments every once and a while where it hangs, and that keeps bothering me. So when I was told that this Support thing is a Trojan, I figured that that was the problem... but I can't find it! Ugh.Hopefully someone will eventually read this post who will be able to offer some different solutions, but I still appreciate the help so far.
  12. That program didn't find anything related to this "System" process. I'm skeptical if it is actually a Trojan, but if it is I want to figure it out and get rid of it. I have searched the internet for a while trying to learn about this, but I couldn't find out about a Trojan that has this exact name.Since I don't know much about Trojans in general, can someone help me to figure out what this actually is?I can't end the process. I can't find it by searching my C: drive. I looked in Registry Editor and under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE there is a SYSTEM folder... but could this be normal?Could someone maybe tell me what possible file extentions is could have or what folders a Trojan could be in?
  13. On this topic: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/8569-help-running-processes-minimize-these-are-my-processes-what-can-i-do/ I was told that I have a Trojan. I downloaded a program called ScanSpyware and am scanning for Trojans. Is this a good program for me to keep, or is there something better?
  14. Wow, thank you so much!Is it really?! I'm suprised that I have a Trojan. I scan and have updates but Norton apparently can't find it. So how can I get rid of it? I can't find system.exe with windows search. And there are loads of results from just "system".I really appreciate the help so far. Please help some more.
  15. I currently have forums at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I would like to have a different forum at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ So, I tried to install it, but it says that the installation had an error. What's wrong? Isn't it ok for me to have two different forums?
  16. Hey, I think it's nice. It loads fast and looks professional.1) If you add the dimentions of the images (width/height), then when the page loads the tables won't change shape. Like I said, that's just a small suggestion and I don't think it matters much.2) When I see your web site I wonder, "Who is Jimmy? And why should I look around and use this web site?" I think that this is just something that you might want to consider. Try to make it apparent to your visitors - what you're offering them through your site. Otherwise, it seems to be entirely personal rather than public. Maybe make a different heading image that speaks out more about your web site?3) Why do you have the cPanel log-in link at the foot of your page? Can't you change that?4) When you write anything on your web site, you should use proper spelling, grammar, and capitalize letters where needed.
  17. Here's a screenshot of all the processes my computer runs, plus some more stats at the bottom. Can anyone give me some advice about all these processes. A friend once told me that this is a lot of processes to run. If I could minimize the number of them my comp should run better, no? I don't know what most of these do, but I do know how to stop them by using Run > msconfig. What are these, what do they do, and which can I avoid using? And is there anything I could learn about Commit Charge, Physical Memory, and Kernel Memory? - I know nothing about these things. A lot of the processes are probably for Norton, but I think it would be best to leave those alone, no? Thanks for the help.
  18. I think that they're one of the best that you can get off the market, but I base that simply on the fact that in dealing with Gateways, Compaqs, and other computers, Dell has been the best. (Compaq is total trash )Others who use this forum will probably speak less positivly about Dell. I also believe that a custom made computer is what's best, which I'm sure is what most techies who know a lot more about computers that I do will say.If you run a normal amount of programs, you'll be alright with a Dell. But if you are a serious computer junkie and run a lot of resource-consuming programs such as games, you'd better get something else, or the best of what Dell has to offer.

    Gay Marriage

Wow, look at this. Just as I'd expected, today a judge in CA "Judge strikes down California gay marriage ban" Celebrations. It is so glad to hear that the government, at least in one state, is smart enough and not biased enough to prevent this seemingly new Christian/Evangelical movement from forcing their hateful bigotry upon the morality onto the rest of the country. It's so good to see that the First Amendment is being kept strong. Like it is said in this article, Maybe, and hopefully (in my opinion), the same will be happening for other states. http://www.nbcnews.com/id/7182628/
  20. This is what I get after I defrag, "all files could not be defragged". I think this is slowing down my computer, so what can I do? I have a couple movies on my hard drive that are about 700MB and 900MB. Does this have something to do with this big red area? Thanks.
  21. Sorry, I meant blackpearl@candw.ky Isn't there a way for me to edit posts?! I thought there was... but I can't figure it out
  22. I started skating about 10 years ago when I lived in Florida. I'm originally from the Cayman Islands though where there has just finished building an amazing concrete park with a wavepool/surfpark right next to it. Too bad it's expected to be like $20/2hrs to skate there (wavepool not included). The island is rediculously expensive; the capitalists there just want to reap huge profits from everything. You could check out some things about it at http://www.blackpearl.ky/ and http://www.HugeDomains.com/ blackpear@candw.ky an email telling them about how rediculously expensive it is - it will help us out :angry:The grand opening is soon and a bunch of pros are going there, including Tony Hawk.By the way, the Cayman Islands are in the Caribbean Sea, south of Cuba.
  23. I have DirextX 9.0How does disk space affect proformance? I thought that my C: drive was just for storage.
  24. Yeah, to most of you I'm sure you'll notice that my laptop is weak, but I already know. This is what I got:Dell Inspirion 5100XP Home edition16MB Video Card512MB RAMPentium 4 - 2.4GHzI used to play Unreal Tournament 2003 and it was a bit slow, low frames per second. Then I got UT2004 and it was worse, so I stopped playing it. Then I started playing GunBound, which is a free (for download) 100MB multiplayer online game. It was good at first. Now it's getting low FPS again and getting generally slow(er) at all times.Yes, I defragment, but which is better? Windows Defrag or Norton Speeddisk? They seem to do different things because when I use Speeddisk, Win Defrag will read the drive and even more fragmented.I run 32 - 34 processes. That's because Norton and Symantec run a lot of processes.Commit Charge: 195M / 1245M - I don't know what this means. And I don't run anything more than MSN Messenger and/or Winamp when I'm playing the game, and it lags. What can I do? Thanks.
  25. Under cPanel > Site Management Tools > Addon DomainsThree input fields: New Domain Name: Username/SubDomain Name: Password:Then there's: Setup(/Remove) Redirection............So, what can I do with this? Can I basically host a sub-subdomain?Can I change my current subdomain? Thanks for the help.
