I have tried it for a few hours. You should know that my system has an AMD 1700+, 256MB RAM, GeForce MX400 and HDD 120GB. As you can see my system is not even somewhere on the middle of the market, it is old in fact. But still it worked pretty good. Well pretty good doesn't meen good, because it didn't work fast at all but someone told me that on 256MB RAM you will die next to it. Longhorn has potential and with some optimization I think it will work pretty fast. I also heard that in Longhorn is a service called WinFS that is a radical new improvement to the indexing service but slowes the computer very much (half the speed). One thing I hated at Longhorn was the themes. Horrible! I can only hope that they will fix that problem. The new API, Avalon, 3d desktop, will sure make the desktop much nicer in 3d. Couldn't test that function because my video card was too old. Bottom line is that Windows Longhorn has potential. I hate Microsoft but I have to admit that Longhorn has potential. If they keep the good work it will be the new Windows 98.

Losing Credits After Getting A New Package Simply, wondering why?
adriantc replied to gunbound's topic in Web Hosting Support
I think you are suposed to loose that credits since they have the same function as money. You get an upgrade for x credits (like buying the upgrade) so you loose the credits. Same thing happened to me.Anyway when you want an upgrade the number of posts is important not the credits. The credits are only important for keeeping your account active. Get it? -
Microsoft Windows Bill Gates Edition?
adriantc replied to rudeturk's topic in Science and Technology
It's not possible for Microsoft to lunch a Windows Bill Gates Edition! Maybe what you friend has is one of the themes packs. For example I have a transformation pack that turns your Windows Xp into Longhorn. It's not a full transformation...it only changes your screen saver, icons, boot screee, login screen and other stuff. The good thing and the bad thing about it is that it modifies the system files which make it faster (compared to other programs) and it has a slight possibility of killind your windows. Never happened to me thought...Give it a try: Windows Longhorn Transformation Pack v8.0! -
Did We Land On The Moon? Did we land on the moon?
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Science and Technology
Forgot to mention the radiation problem. There isn't a powerful enought telescope on earth that could see the moon in so much detail. Maybe we will know if we have gone to the moon if we visit the moon again and show us the american flag still flapping! -
I know what is Google Adsense. I am searching for some sites that will do some free advertising for my site, like make it known so it will attract more visitors. I don't want something like banner exchange, just free advertising.
-
I have recently been accepted to Google Adsense with my website (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/). I want to attract visitors to my website. Is there anyway I can attract them for free without having to put some advertisment on my website? I hope you know some kind of service that is free and serious (not a hoax)!

What To Do With 40 Billion $? What to do with 40 billion ?
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Operating Systems
You are all right. I have only one problem. So he is the one with the vision. But all he had was the vision, nothing more. with every new version of windows his implication in the project is lower. So he started with DOS. That couldn't have been possible without Bill, but Windows could live without Bill. If he were to die tomorrow do you think microsoft will stop developing windows. Of course not! Microsoft is possible without Bill. That makes the 40 billion $ moraly useless. -
Abortion : For Or Against Abortion? Share ur views on ABORTION?
adriantc replied to Milk's topic in General Discussion
I am for abortion for one simple reason. Let's say you have a poor country girl who doesn't know how to use the condoms. She gets a baby she doesnt want and she is so poor she can't give the baby a decent life. What could she do then? The problem with abortion is an etical one. I don't really belive so much in god so my etical problem is not so big. If you are the person that goes to church every day you will 99,9% hate abortion. But, like my case, if you like to watch discovery channel and you don't think god is controling our lives, but the pure laws of phisics (hope it's spelled right) you will be most certainly for abortion. -
I have a question for you! A 40 billion $ question...What do you think Bill Gates could do with his 40 billion $?And more the point...do you really think he needs them all?Bill was the dude who invented DOS. That's all. Do you think he is still programming for Windows. Of course not! He has a bunch of guys who are programming for him while he is getting richer and richer...That's why I hate Microsoft!

I used Win Me quite a lot. It's true it had a lot of BSOD but so did Win 98. Don't get me wrong I hate it too, but I hate the hole Windows stuff. Long Live Linux. It has pretty hard to me to adapt to Windows Xp. At first I uninstalled Win Xp and reinstalled Win Me, but that times are long over.

Freedows Operating System ...a new Win/Lin clone...
adriantc replied to michaleq's topic in Operating Systems
I'm sure it's just a normal Linux ditribution with some Wine installed. By the way, has anyone tried Lindows, because I know it does the same stuff, windows programs on linux?US guv should give a law to force Windows give the files they need to create a full working Wine! -
Did We Land On The Moon? Did we land on the moon?
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Science and Technology
Now, is there anyone here that tells me that wasn't a good time for a hoax. in the middle of the cold war if you couldn't go to the moon you hoax it. Why didn't the russians go to the moon (even after the americans). Everyone saw it and now they can't say it wasn't true. It's like 9-11... -
Are You For Or Against Cloning? what would be your reason?
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Science and Technology
You know that the tasmanian tiger is extinct because of men hunting it to extinction in just 30 years. And even if it is the natural law for unadapted species to became extinct we are only human. The same natural law whould tell us to kill the men which are not fit for reproduction like invalids...but we are human, we like to belive that we are over (better) than the natural law. -
Did We Land On The Moon? Did we land on the moon?
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Science and Technology
I never sad we can't go back now (if we were there in the first place). But still:2nd light source in the photos coundn't be a light bulb, flash or something because they didn't have flashs on their cameras (and by the way the cameras are much to hard to manipule since they are attached to the suits... the question is how did they take that cristal clear, well focused photos). Even if we would have only the photo with the 2nd light source that would have convinced me that we've never been to the moon -
Did We Land On The Moon? Did we land on the moon?
adriantc replied to adriantc's topic in Science and Technology
I should tell you that the documentary in not a hoax. If you would have watched it you would realize that the landing on the moon was a giant hoax. You can see in the movie objects castings shadows in 2 different parts. Is there anyone here who is able to explain that?NASA. There was someone on the documentary representing NASA. He just sad that they landed on the moon. He never sad anything like..guys, objects cast shadows in different parts because... He just sad no not true. -
Did we land on the moon?We take for granted when we hear Neil Armstrong saying "One small step for men, one giant leap for menkind". But did he step on the moon or he really steped in a giant recording studio in Aria 51. Some say men landing on the moon was a giant hoax, the most expansive movie ever made. Why? With a simple search on google you can discover proof of this hoax.1. American flag flaping on the moon which everybody knows has no atmosfere.2. Photos made by the astronauts in (NASA says) different locations seem identical.3. Shadows in the same photos suggest 2 different light sources, but on the moon the sun is the only light source.4. No dust present on the moon lander.5. If you double the speed of the tape with the astronauts walking on the moon, you will see that they seem to run. What I have told you are not the only proofs, only the most important one. I suggest you watch the documentary made by an american tv channel (NBC not sure thought). After seeing that documentary I am wondering if we really landed on the moon...

Ad-aware is the greatest. Even the free version is great. Never missed a bug. And what is great about Ad-aware? It has weekly updates so you can have the latest signatures every week. I should tell you to use a good firewall ... it helps stop many nasty bugs.

Yes, I would tell you to buy Call of Duty (any of them). I have played both of them (battlefield 1942 and call of duty) and Call of Duty is much more realistic. Great sounds, great graphic, great gameplay. You could alse try Medal of Honor Allied Assault.Even it is kind of old the landing mission from Medal of Honor is great. I think it has the greatest war feeling of all the war games.

I think AirBus A380 is great. It represents what the world wants. It brings more people together, faster and more confortable. The Concorde wasn't that. Too expansive to operate the Concorde seems to me just a waste of money. Never the less the concept of the Concorde is great: hipersonic flight. But for another 10 or 20 years it will remain what it is ... just a concept.

Are you for or against cloning?I will start by telling you that I am for cloning. Why? It can save many human lives, bring back extinct species and maybe put an end to many of mankind's problems (see world hunger). Of course it can create many more, some of them could seem SF.Well I see cloning like the nuclear bomb. At first it could and it will probably be an weapon (see hiroshima and nagasaki ... off-topic: two months ago, before the american elections someone intervied a lady in Ney York and they asked her why she will vote for Bush. She sad "because it is good to know he can drop the nuclear bomb again to protect america". Well that kind of thinking seems very, very, very stupid to my but i am not an american citizen so... ) but if that won't wipe us out from the surface of the earth cloning will be the future. Remember that we where near (30 min near) full nuclear war in the '60. But we lived and now the nuclear bomb is still a threat but it's the same technology that gives us energy and maybe one day take us to the stars. So I ask you once again are you for or are you against cloning?I have one more question for you...It has been a documentary on Discovery Channel regarding the cloning of the tasmanian tiger (for the ones who haven't seen it you should see it). Did they do any more progress other then what thay showed on TV?

I think the best thing that ever happend to the computer industry is the open source concept. Many say that they do programming for a living (like I am planning to do in the fuure) and they have to sell their programs to earn money.Well, we all see what happened to poor Bill after creating DOS. He got 40 billion $. I now ask: If he already has 40 billion $ (you can buy a country with that amount of money or almost put a stop to world hunger) why doesn't he give Windows for free, like his gift to mankind. There is the reverse side of the coin. The open source concept is defined by Linux. A world community of people have created one of the best (if not the best) OS ever. They don't sell it, but they still receive money for advertising. They are not working in the same room (as the guys from microsoft) but in every corner of the world and it seems to me they do a great job: stable systems, few bugs (if i where them i would improve the term user-friendly because we all know how difficult is to install a program on Linux). My point is: You don't have to sell a program in order to get money. Open source is the best example. LONG LIVE OPEN SOURCE.

Windows Long Horn? dunno...its wut i hear
adriantc replied to XeNoToSs's topic in Science and Technology
I installed Longhorn on my PC (AMD Athlon XP 170+, 256 MB RAM, 120GB, Nvidia GeForce 2MX-400) and it worked, barely, but it worked. Of course I didn't install any kind of programs and I deletes it after a few hours but at first look it seems pretty good. Don't like the theme thought. I also heard that if you stop the WinFS service the speed will double but I cound't find that service.Anyway I think that in 2006 Longhorn will have much more optimizations so it will work faster. I have seen a demo for Avalon (Longhorn's API) (couldn't find the enable button in Longhorn...it wouldn't have worked anyway on my pc) and I can say that it looked fantastic. It is just the beginning but I can tell you it was great. -
I have a 120gb HDD with 5 Partitions.A. 3 for Windows XP Pro: -C:system -D:my stuff(mp3,movies,games) -E:my parents stuffB. 2 for Mandrake Linux -system -swap
-
I have 120gb. When I bouth the HDD I sad "I'll never need that much" but now 2 OS (WinXpPro + Mandrake Linux) + movies + music + all kinds of programs = almoust 50gigs. In a few years I must get a new HDD.

Firefox Or Internet Explorer that is the question...
adriantc replied to Judman's topic in The Internet
I would choose Firefox anytime because I hate Internet Explorer and Microsoft. Firefox is much faster then Internet Explorer and don't forget...it is free, which I think is the most important advantage.
