  1. Vista has only been slowing peoples computers down because some people that have installed in on their computer have no business doing so, they dont have the hardware capablilites. As far as that setup you have there, it would run Vista pretty well. I would say to upgrade to 2GB's of memory, cause in a few months and with Vista applications 1GB just isn't going to be enough. And you said "GOOD" graphics card, what is your idea of good? Haha. I'm thinking something atleast in the Geforce 7950GT range, that would last your for awhile atleast, fairly reasonable for graphics cards too, under 300 bucks.
  2. Agreed. The games play a huge role in what I'm willing to play. Yes I have and Xbox 360, pretty much just for Halo and Project Gotham. Its fun playing some games with the guys in the basement on the big screen. You can't really do that on a computer, but a computer gamer has their advantages too. With a computer you can upgrade muchh easier and cheaper. Give a console a few years and its obsolete, there goes $600 down the drain. Spending money to upgrade your PC is a much better investment since the things you put into it just roll over to the next time you upgrade. Say you put another Gig of memory into your desktop, cool, so now in 6 months or so you can throw another gig in there, no big deal.Just seems a lot more practical to stick with the PC gaming market, get alot more bang for your buck in the long run...
  3. If you want to cut down a little 4Gigs of memory are really not nescessary right now, maybe in a year or so, but not at the moment. But then again, if you only select 2 Gigs Dell will put in (1) 4x512MB sticks, taking up all your memory slots, or (2) give you a motherboard with only 2 slots for memory. haha. So I guses either don't buy from Dell, build your own, or find someone else, or if you can afford the 4 gigs of memory, go for it. Oh and as far as your recommendation for companies that can help you build one, check out my company, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Our build specialists would be glad to help you find the right computer for you with the right specs to run your games smooth.
  4. What is defective by design? I scanned through that article, but am having a difficult time understanding what that actually has to do with Xbox 360 HD DVD player? What do they have in common?
  5. Like randomdood asked, don't you have some type of spyware program to help your remove these? If you don't and want something free, Spybot Search and Destroy is always a good bet. Free download, pretty good program for removing spyware. I use Counterspy, it is a $19.99 program that you can download and then just activate. It does an amazing job scanning and finding all types of spyware. They claim they find up to 99.9% of all internet spyware. Typically there are daily updates that download automactically each time I turn on my computer that keeps me up to date. A very good option if you want something to make all your spyware worries go away.
  6. Thanks for all the advice guys and gals. I recently made some changes to my "Schedule your build" page. I have it set up as follows, when the vistor clicks the "schedule your build" link at the top of the page they are taken to a page with a base level AMD system, and base level Intel system. From there they click on which system type they would like to customize, AMD or Intel. You can see it here : http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ am having a hard time getting that page to look right, I dont like how users have to scroll down the page to get to the Intel based computer. I need some way to set them side by side. I tried fooling around with creating images last night, as you can see, a black AMD picture, and a white Intel picture, each with their respective computer cases. I dont know how found of these I am either. There has to be a better way to set this page up. If you actually click on the system, AMD or Intel, you are taken to the form page. Each computer category with choices that are sent to a build specialist and the vistors is quoted a price based upon their selections. I like the look of these 2 pages, but its the transition page that needs some work (schedule.php).Please any advice to make this page a little more visually appealing would be greatly appreciated. I would like to do it somehow where both systems were side by side, rather than on top of each other. I tried a table, but the amount of information gets crammed into table with a width of a max 600 pixels. Thanks all, look forward to any recommendations.
  7. Another option, if you are looking for an amazing gaming monitor I would go with a Samsung 931C Black 19" 2ms LCD. An LCD with a 2ms response rate? That is amazing, definately one of the fastest response rates I have seen. You may pay a little extra compared to other 19" LCD's, but it is definately reasonable. All depends upon what you plan on using your monitor for, definately go with LCD though, CRT is fading out fasttt. If you plan on just basic desktop application, word processing, internet surfing, is a 2ms response rate monitor nescessary? Not really, but if you're into gaming you should definately consider it.
  8. If you don't mind paying and are doing your video editing on a Windows PC you should definately go with Avid. It is by far the most powerful video editing software out there. Yeah it takes a little knowledge to use it, but it is the most professional editing software on the market. Large scale movie producers use it, so why shouldn't you too?I'm not sure what the website to get information on Avid is, but sure a good old Google search could help you out with that one.
  9. If you run an online store or need some way to collect money from buyers Paypal is a good option if you're a smaller business. They charge 2.6% on credit card transactions (correct me if i'm wrong?) but thats better than having your own merchant account if you are just starting out and want to keep costs down. They have a few different options, the easiest being invoices by email. You can send your buyers invoices with their totals and collect payments through Paypal that was, although only a good option if again you are a small business. You wouldn't want to deal with that once you got into alot of customers.
  10. I am going to have to go with Grand Tourismo, even though I am a 360 owner and Project Gotham owner (all 3 of them). I love the Project Gotham series, and yes the cars and handling is very realistic, but it seems to have more of an "arcade" feel than Grand Tourismo. GT is straight up driving, its about as close to a driving a McClearen as you can get without spending a few hundred K. As far as gameplay is concerned I enjoy playing the PGR3 series much more as it seems a little bit easier and just more fun to drive.
  11. Yea, I think the HD DVD's are going to win this formatting war though. Options like this will help the industy out greatly, it gives the consumers a good value to get into the HD DVD market.
  12. Hey-I know it may be looked down on a little bit, but honestly, check out our company. Our link is in my signature. We have custom computer build specialists that will consult with you and hope you pick out a system based on your price range, wants, uses, and special requests. We have done a VERY wide range of systems.Get this: Just yesterday we sent out a system with 8800GTX cards in SLI with an Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme Processor, I actually saw the benchmarks from that computer, AMAZING performance. Thanks, you can fill out a Build Schedule on our webpage, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and a build specialist will contact you immediately.
  13. I checked out http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I think that is the site you are referring to? If it is I only have a few suggestions. I dont really like how the gray from the center body section flows to the left side navigation area. I see the links are a different color, but the information below them seems to get lost a little bit because they are the same color as the middle of the page (the gray color) I like the links above the header, look nice up there. I really like the navigation label sections too, where you have "Members Area", "Last Forum Post", ect. The white and silver is very appealling in my opinion. One recommendation: When ever you click on a page other than the home page index the box around the "John's Upcoming Projects" section looks to get cut off a little bit on the bottom part, something to consider. Maybe its just in Firefox, but you have to remember alot of people are using Mozilla these days... Looks good, maybe liven the colors up a little bit to create a little more excitement when looking at the page. I know I'm not one to talk really, considering Plug Computers is mostly black, silver, and white, but its a good combination for me I believe.
  14. Hey all-I was checking out some possible Christmas gifts (haha it is that time of year, already!) and I came accross the new Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive, an external drive for the 360. Playing HD DVD's in full 1080p with the Xbox 360 VGA cable the 360 is keeping up with new PS3 Blu-Ray technology. At only $199 this is a great addition to any home theater system you may have. Currently being the only HD DVD player to play DVD's in full 1080p the 360's drive is much more affordable than stand alone HD DVD drives. Currently stand alone HD DVD drives are around 400-600 bucks if I'm not mistaking. This drive is an excellent value and if you are playing your Xbox 360 on an HDTV (I hope you are, considering that is what next-gen gaming is all about...) I would highly recommend picking one up. I'm going to check them out further, but from the multiple reviews I have read the last few days it sounds like a solid product, well done Microsoft.
  15. Haha very true. But of course, I would love to see oblivion at highest settings running at about 70 fps. That would be pretty. Imagine two 8800GTX's in SLI. haha nescessary? Prolly not, and hope you have a 1000watt powersupply! There will be a greater need for these cards in the future obviously, I just can't wait to see what they starting doing with DirectX 10. Games should be even better looking.
  16. Welcome to the forum Spoiler and NineFingers. I recently became apart of the Xisto community and I love it. If you are looking for hosting, and most people here are hosted by Xisto, look no furthur. Its so easy to get credits because the people are very easy to talk to here...as you can see, husker is a nice guy. Have fun, and welcome.
  17. So PS3 is going to be coming out really soon, some people are starting to get their hands on them. When Nvidia was asked what they were going to do about the graphics power of the PS3 they responded by saying "we'll have something new by then" and holding true to their word, within the last few weeks GeForce 8800GTS and GTX graphics cards have been flowing into the market. These new cards are producing higher quality graphics than those that the PS3 will be capable of, according to Nvidia. At a pretty steep price these cards arent cheap, but if you're looking for perfection gaming from your PC I recommend checking them out. I dont even believe Alienware and Dell has started putting these new cards in their systems yet, but guess what? Plug Computers can do it for you. We sent out a system 2 days ago with a 8800GTX card in it that ran over 15,000 on 3DMark06 Benchmarking without any overclocking and a fairly low end processor. Amazing cards. I'd say check it out for sure.I bet Sony is glad to hear of this timing for their new system...
  18. I wouldnt recommend it unless you do have a large amount of traffic coming into your website, if so then why not add it? Yeah a few ads, but it can turn into some cash for you to add to your website. I think people are so used to seeing the google Adsense that they really are getting to the point where they dont even notice them. Good for them, but can hurt the amount of clicks you get. Might as well give it a shot if you have umm i'd say atleast 500 unique visitors a day. That sound about right?
  19. I am using a 24" Dell widescreen LCD monitor. Its works great. High resolutions of 1920x1200 and I have my Xbox 360 hooked up via the VGA input, which works nice. Run my computer off the DVI and use the VGA for my gaming. Not a bad price, you can pick one up new on ebay for under $700 if I remember right, and that was about 3 months ago...Clean looking monitor too, Dell's products are usually very visually appealing. I'd suggest checking into them.
  20. So you're saying that your fan keeps running at a high speed even after your computer is booted up? I guess a couple of things could cause that: 1. Like someone above said, it could be a power supply issue, your fan is not getting a constant wattage so it keeps toggling the fan on or off. You may also have a bad power supply that is losing alot of power when trying to boot your computer or run more intense applications that are nescessary for your fans to run at higher speeds.2. Your computer may just be running really warm. Do you know any internal temperatures of your computer? What is your motherboard running at? How about your CPU? The fan could just realize the high heat and keep running in order to try to cool down your case. Not very probable, but possible. Try finding out what temps your computer is running at to see how hard your fans are needing to work.
  21. Ahh I cant stand Dell tech support. Not to be racist or anything, but honestly, I have a very difficult time understand many of their technical support people. Some have very heavy accents and are difficult to understand. The tech service knows their stuff, but sometimes it takes a little while to understand. I really wont buy another Dell computer, I have one of their big widescreen monitors (24"), but as far as computers? I dont think so, they use such lower grade products and charge much more than personal construction and design.
  22. Ah thank you, appreciate the help. Looks like they're having some issues with some other servers too. They'll get them back up soon.
  23. Hey all-I'm having trouble connecting to my website right now. My webpage itself will not load (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/), outlook will not connect to my webmail from my website, I can not even get the cPanel login to come up, and SmartFTP will not connect to my page either. I have plenty of hosting credits, about 9 days, so that shouldnt be the issue?Whats going on? Server issues or is this something I need to fix? Thanks all, I appreciate the help.
  24. I like the look of your site. The splash logo you used at the top is pretty cool. Clean lines, nice colors, very visually appealing. Well done. Just clean up a few things like the people above me said and you should be good.
  25. Ok all, I took some of the recommendations into consideration - First- I added a small table at the bottom of the page with links to Contact, Help, FAQ, and Privacy Policy. Let me know what you think of that- I know they will come up 404 Not Found, but just check out the "look", centered look right to you? Second- I brightened up all the colors a little bit, making the grays a little whiter. Compare the two pages here: PAGE 1 (original): Original (Gray Colors) PAGE 2 (new): NEW (Brighter Colors) Thanks for all the input, let me know what you think of the changes.
