  1. If your focus is on gaming I would agree with darran. Definately stick with a PC. Its just so much easier with games. Some games are hard to get for Mac Platforms. As for video editing, image editing, art stuff like that I would say go with a Mac. Both use intel chips so performance is going to be similar. Its all about what interface you perfer. I think once you are used to one you are very hesistant to move to the other. People who have used Macs are going to stick with them, and people that are used to PC's are going to stick with them as well. Just what you're comfortable with.
  2. For that price range I would recommend a pair of Geforce 7600GT's. 2 cards would put you at about 300 bucks. They aren't too bad either, its a pretty good value. I dont know how they would perform in SLI though. The 7600GT is more of a card that people use by itself, not so much for SLI. If i was you I would spend about $250-275 bucks on a 7950GT then add another card later to give youself and SLI setup. The 7950GT has an available 512MB of memory and much faster clock speeds. Something definately looking into. For a future system, I feel the 7950GT would suit you much better than a pair of 7600GT's. Just go with one 7950GT and another in a few months or so to get your SLI setup.
  3. Plug has had alot of systems with 8800GTX's in them. As a system builder I feel they are far superior to ATI Crossfire setups. You can't go wrong with either of the new 8 series Nvidia cards. Watch the brands that you buy though, we usually use the ASUS version of the 8800GTX, although it has the same core clock and memory clock speed as the other 8800GTX's it consistently gets higher 3DMark scores. Just something to note. If you're going to get such an expensive card, might as well get the best brand for the price. If you're interested we could work with you to help you configure a system. No pressure, just know we'd be glad to help. Visit us. Site is in my signature.
  4. So I finally got my hands on a Vista operating system for a clien at Plug Computers. Just yesterday I sent out a system with the Home Premium for system builders edition on it. Got to play around with it for a little bit, seems to be some pretty cool upgrades as far as securtiy and the way automatic updates are done. I like it alot. If you are satsified with your windows XP and have a little bit dated computer I would just stick with XP. Yeah vista is great, but you really need a solid computer to run it and your applications smoothly. Your overall computing may be a bit slower if you computer can't handle the vista operating system. Definately check out the recommended specs Mircosoft has provided before upgrading or choosing Vista. In general, it looks good. Some pretty cool visual changes, as well as security updates, but I'm sure its full of bugs somewhere. Haha Microsoft couldnt sell an OS without bugs now could they! You would never have to update..haha. Check it out though, pretty neat new stuff.Look forward to the formal release tomorrow Jan 30th.
  5. At plug computers we have had great success using Samsung drives. Although they are a bit more expensive they are usually the most reliable and best drives you can get your hands on. Check out newegg.com for a good price on one. You can get Dual layer DVD+-R/RW drives for 35 bucks or less usually. Dont skimp and buy a Lite-On, yeah, they are a great deal, but they usually carry the risk of not lasting too long. Sure, they do make some good drives, but I think you have better chances being satisfied with Samsung. Highly recommended.
  6. What type of directory submission have you done? If you haven't done so make sure you get your site listed in the Dmoz directory. Visit them at http://www.dmoz.org/. It may take a few weeks to have your site reviewed, but its the open source directory that many large search engines use.Very beneficial to be listed in there...
  7. Maybe some of you have seen this article on MSN, but I saw it earlier today and wanted to point it out. http://www.msn.com/en-us/money How can a company lose about 35 million dollars a day. Think about that, throwing away 35 million a day, down the tubes. Haha thats rough. A mustang a minute, about 24k lost every minute of the day. Future doesn't look to promising for America's oldest auto maker. Largest loss in their 103 year history.
  8. They look pretty legit to me. All look like possible reasons except for number 7, Printers. I mean sure it's possible, but for a printer to use enough CPU power to crash a computer from a large document would have to be pretty extreme. That would have to be one huge print document. Possible, yes, unlikely? also yes. haha.
  9. Well depends upon what your budget is and how much storage you are looking for. If you just have a decent library of songs and want something solely for music go with the Ipod Nano. Pretty cool, clean player that will everything for you.If you want videos and/or more storage go with a Video Ipod. They're a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for - more storage, a larger screen, and video playback ability.Lastly, if you want to wait it out and can afford a few hundred dollars more I'd go with the new Apple iPhone. Looks pretty cool, has internet, phone, music, videos, email, everything. All built into a phone that is about a 1/2" thick. I think the pricetag is around 500 bucks though, so if you can afford it give it a try. The price really isnt that bad considering you would pay approx. 250 bucks on an ipod and another $150 on a decent cell phone. Just a few considerations to keep in mind.
  10. If its a decent antivirus you shouldn't have any problems. I notice more of a slowdown with some firewall programs, only cause they're monitoring my network so heavily. I agree with the above, search on google for "internet speed test" or something like that to find out what your bandwidth connection actually is. Try it with your antivirus running, and then without. Just to compare the difference. If you notice a difference, then there ya go, problem solved.
  11. Oh God. I know it says stuff about Jesus, but cmon God, why did I need to see that? That is pretty rough. I agree Sensible, thatd be nice to just send to people you hate to piss them off for a day. Send that to a few web designers and watch them...
  12. If you're looking for bang for the buck (as many people upgrading or buying new computers are..) I'd go with AMD. You can snag one of their X2 series dual core processors for less than $200. As far as performance, Intel currently has the edge in my opinion. Many of the systems that people request from Plug Computers are Intel based. Intel seems to be preferred for gaming/video editing while AMD is more geared towards basic computing/word processing/internet surfing. Not that you can't use AMD for gaming, just seems like the trend is shifting towards Intel right now. Look for prices to drop on the new Intel core 2 duo processors soon, as they already have, technology is moving forward and you'll be able to pick one up for a great deal.If you need any other help or have any questions PM me or visit http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  13. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by topsites. I am not familiar with it. What is it? Where would I find it for computer websites? Thanks for the reply though...
  14. Along with your motherboard it could also be a bad memory stick. Try changing out your memory with a DIMM that you know works. If you have 2 DIMMS in your computer try it with just one. If that doesnt work try replacing it with 1 that you know works.I had that problem with a computer I built. When you turned on the power the fans and everything would start, and the bios would flash up, but it would not boot. In other words, windows needs memory to boot, and without a sufficent amount, its never going to get past your motherboard boot sequence.Just an idea from what I've seen in the past....
  15. Hello everyone-We all know how important link popularity is to Google, and if you want to be anyone, you have to be well ranked on Google.I have been trying to build my link popularity for my website http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and need some help. Do any webmasters out there have any recommendations regarding how they built their page's link popularity? What did you do? Did it work? Thanks and I appreciate any advice-Jon
  16. Yea for all these special speedboost things to work you have to have matching brand items. Linksys, D-link. Whatever. You have to have matching router and USB adapter for it to actually do anything, and yes you can actually notice a difference, especially over longer distances or on different floors of houses. The "Speedbooster" technology as they call it doesnt actually make it a whole lot FASTER, just adds more speed over longer distances. Something to consider if you have a computer in your basement or somewhere far from your router.
  17. Haha no one said you had to buy one bk2070. Its just a good alternative that will save you some money if you are looking to get into the HD DVD's. Much cheaper and not a bad add on to your 360.
  18. haha thats definately a desktop...he says what case hes using and if you've ever seen and arctic cooling freezer 7 they are huge processor heatsinks and coolers. Doesnt look like too bad of a system. 400 watts may be pushing it for that graphics card and core 2 duo processor, i'd go with something around 500w. Just to be safe, it isnt that much of a price difference. If you need any help come to Plugcomputers.com we'd be happy to help with anything.
  19. Yeah I definaly wouldnt skimp on a decent router. Get something mid range (prolly around 85 bucks or so? US..) Something with a wirless G speedboost or something because the bandwidth will make a difference like thejestergl said. If you or your dad is doing some large file transfers or downloads you will see a major performance loss if you are using a cheaper router. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck.
  20. Hey man, I'd be willing to do some link exchanging with you, my link is in my sig. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I can put you on our page somewhere...
  21. Haha ok I'm in the computer business and I dont see whats up with these fancy mice these days. Yeah its a special "gaming" mouse. But how about you just upgrade to a bluetooth wireless setup? You'll get the same performance along with better options I think, not to mention a matching keyboard/mouse combo. This thing would look weird with a standard keyboard, I like the look to match as well. It does look pretty cool, but the price is a bit steep for what you're getting. Try bluetooth, newest technology and will be around for awhile to come.
  22. Loaded for me, I like the design. Nice to have everything in 1 eyeshot instead of having to scroll down. Therefore you know people wont miss any of the information. Its all there in plain view. I like the union jack logo works well since I'm assuming you are british (.uk web address). Looks cool. One suggestion though that may make it a little easier for visitors...you have your 3 different plans listed in the top left, but the links are only on the words. Is there any way where you could make the whole box a link? Cause if you go to click on the picture of the server it doesnt goto that link. Add a link to the images that matches the link for the title up above. Just may make browsing a little easier...
  23. I tried that, so now the coding looks like this: <form name="theForm" action="L10FmX.php" METHOD="POST" onclick="getTotal()"><input type="hidden" name="required" value="email, realname"> But its the same as before, the email script works now, but the not the total at the bottom of the page does not even show up. You click the parts and nothing shows up at the bottom.
  24. BuffaloHelp- I figured something out (there were 2 opening <form... tags and the first one that the page encounters is what is uses and as result the second one is just content within the first form) but am now having a problem with the price calculator (theForm22) This is what the code on my page looked like before... <form name="theForm22" onclick="getTotal() "><form name="theForm" action="L10FmX.php" METHOD="POST"><input type="hidden" name="required" value="email, realname"> I tried flipping the placement of the 2 <form tags so that it would execute the L10FmX.php first: <form name="theForm" action="L10FmX.php" METHOD="POST"><input type="hidden" name="required" value="email, realname"> <form name="theForm22" onclick="getTotal() "> Now after doing this it DOES submit and will send the emails like its supposed to, but now the price calculator (theForm22) will not work. Any way to make both of these work?
  25. // configuration variables////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// List all domains, including posible subdomains (e.g. ; that are allowed to submit// requests to this script and the domains of any posible recipient email address.$validReferrers = array('plugcomputers.com','plugcomputers.com;;// Use the this array (or create new arrays with a different association) to replace// setting fields in the form. Don't delete the 'default' array.$formAction['default'] = array( 'recipient' => 'sales@plugcomputers.com', 'recipient_cc' => '', 'recipient_bcc' => '', 'subject' => 'Schedule your Build Form', 'redirect' => 'http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/;, 'email' => '', 'realname' => '', 'required' => '', 'format' => 'html', 'sesrep_max_items' => '10',);// If set to 0, the form can set the email recipient. For security reasons you should// set this variable to 1.$disableFormRecipients = 1; That is the configuration part of L10FmX.php, it says not to touch the rest of it, so I didn't. I just configured this part with my email, referrers, redirect, ect. as you can see. Anything look weird about this? I'm not so sure there is anything wrong with this L10FmX.php because it was working perfectly fine before I added the price calculator on the page. Now it seems the 2 will not function together.
