  2. I have wings, but use it as a converstion tool for file formats blender doesn't support. Blender is a great application. It still lacks in areas, but if you want to learn 3d on the cheap, definately the way to go.
  3. I saw the trailer, but I'm not quite as interested as I was about halo2...dunno, maybe I'm just getting old...
  4. I did for about a week. They had no content relavant to my site, and therefore no clicks. So I stuck with Google Adsense and are getting about 3500 visitors to my site with 40 - 60 clicks a month. I make enough to cover my domain costs a year and eat a steak dinner. So I'm happy.Although, since I started to run contests, the number of visitors has increased to about 200 visitors (1200 page views) a day now and growing.
  5. Tie fighter Collectors CD rom. Tie fighter was probably the best space combat game during that gerne's hey day in the last decade. I remember it had a good storyline, good graphics for the day, and was fun to play. I beat it in about 3 days, but played it time and time again. XvT was also good for online multiplayer gaming. Ran smoothly with 4 other players over dial up! Definately one of the early internet multiplayer game sucesses.Next has to be the eariler Rainbox Six games, especial Rogue Spear. I played that game online for ages during college. It was fun if you got a group together willing to play co-ops and have fun. Always got the 14 year old punks with no life and thought that were god's gift sometimes, but good game and good fun play.
  6. I remember when text used to be the only games. And I ran a site with Promisance and Ledgend of the Green Dragon MMPOG's as well as Black Nova traders for a number of years. Did quite well too, about $800 a month from ad revenue back when it was $.10 a click. Beat a part time job while in college.
  7. I got about 10 invites from a lot of different friends. Finally I caved in and signed up. Glad I did. I now use my yahoo account for all my registrations and spam account. Only my good friends have my google account.
  8. You buy an Apple for the Macintosh OS. Especially now since your can compare apples and PC's. I've not switched to intel chips yet. I"m still running on all PPC machines because they are still out performing in A/V design the intel machines. Plus some of the applications I'm using aren't available in Universial format the last time I checked. My main business is video editing and post-production. I'm still using FCP 4.5HD and Shake 4 & After Effects 7. I don't think AE is in universal yet. Although I haven't exactly checked in a while. If your into gaming, get a standard Windows based PC. If your looking for a good all around computer that is easy to use and isn't virus bait...get the Mac. If you want to do home movie editing and DVD burning...get the Mac. If you are in to digital photography...get the Mac. If you are into web design...well take your pic, dreamweaver costs the same on both platforms.
  9. The short answer to this is no. The long answer is, yes, it should be possible, but no matter what you do you are going to have a lot of recoding on your hands. It may be easier to port or create the feature you want from Drupel and create a Joomla componet, mambot, etc..
  10. There is a VERY big difference between a theme and a shell on Macs. Okay, remember, OSX is UNIX. A shell on a mac, or any other Unix machine, is how you access the command line (DOS/command prompt like interface) The default Shell for Unix is something called BASH. There are a few other "Shell's" one can set up and use as the command line interface. I tend to stick with BASH but others like tcsh and others. For more information please consult wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_shell The term you are looking for is "Theme" or "Desktop Theme". Don't want to nitpick, but I came in this thread expecting to help someone switch their shell from bash to tsch or some other Unix Shell.
  11. I still have my old Gensis and Sega CD...still play Sega Hockey too. A few months ago I was at a used record store and they had the last version of NHL (97 I think) for Gensis for $5, so I picked it up. Yeah, I know, the new NHL games are much cooler with eye candy, but still, there is a place for sega hockey in heart...and not just because I like kevin smith films...
  12. My friend has the game for PS2 and we love it. Especially a fun game to play after a couple drinks. Mainly because of its sarcastic humor about the movies and the game itself. When it hits the $10 bargin bin, I'll probably pick it up like I did the first one. I don't play it often, but around the right people it's a funny party game. Another one of those you can sit and watch other play and laugh!
  13. Content helps. If your site has a lot of useful stuff or a niche subject, that helps. Like my site is dedicated to getting 3D meshes of Battlestar Galactica ships into the Opensource 3D program Blender.
  14. Suddenly all my file permission aren't writable in the Joomla directory. Furthermore, when I go to delete old files or overwrite them, I get a varity of errors both in my FTP programs and using the Cpanel flie manager. When I checked the needed directories file permission they read 777 (which is needed for installing components) yet when I got to access them they are unwritable. This has just happened in the last day or so and the not being able to delete files mannual in the past week. I get this error on changing file permissions: And then I get a operation timed out error in the Cpanel file manager when trying to delete a couple files so I can replace the header of the theme with one I designed. And then trying to create a new directory I get this error: Notice from electriic ink: When copying errors from cPanel (or anywhere), you must use quote tags. Quotes added.
  15. However, all the extentions/programs that extend mambo/joomla's functionalities have moved to joomla. Mambo doesn't have a lot left going for it at this point. That being said I haven't had any problems with Joomla thus far...
  16. Hey, DOS was not a virus. It worked quite well. It's when he startedcreating Windows that he got in to the virus business.
  17. That depends a lot on you and how well you understand PHP and templating. To be honest, I've only deployed the systems with minor template modifications, never done anything from scratch...if I need a custom Mambo/Joomla template, I hire someone to build it. That being said, I like Joomla a lot. It is extremely well developed, has a centralized management system, and offers a lot of features. That being said, it has its own learning curve and for a small, simple, interactive site...it's over kill. Mambo/Joomla seems to function better for larger sites with lots of admins, mods, topics, and a large user community. (Say if you have 1000's of people visiting every day.)If your looking for something easier, I'd suggest Xoops. I have created custom templates for Xoops and there were a few tricks to learn, but not too bad. What Xoops lacks is a centralized repository for catagories and is far more hub and spoke like with it's modules. That being said, I can usually deploy faster on Xoops than anyother CMS save for phpWebsite, but phpWS is way dated and very restrictive on anything but the most basic of interactive websites.
  18. I don't think the PS3 is going to achieve much. Plus the PS3 is based on Cell Processors (sounds like a cool idea, but in praxis it is apparently a pain in the butt to program for)With a lot more games and an HD-DVD drive (which I think is the format that is going to win out over Blu-Ray even though I have a Both a Blu-ray and Hd-DVD burners), the Xbox 360 is the system to beat. Don't forget to factor in a lower price tag and the intergrated Xbox Live service. If I decide to get a new console, it will be an Xbox 360, but next on my shopping list is another Mac....

  20. Socom, Ghost Recon I and Jungle Storm (the original PC ports that were more about tactics and realism than trying to make it Tom Clancy Socom)Then Lego Starwars and Lego Starwars II...those are fun games along iwth Battlefront...
  21. With so many different versions and everything else...I wouldn't be surprised if people don't seriously start taking a closer look at Macs. If I read things right, they might even be doing away with the server version and having just a single version of OS 10.5 for everything. The only difference now is that the server version comes with a few extra tools and interfaces to programs, like Xgrid. Features that most people will never use and if you know enough unix you can get most of those features to work without having OSX server. It's just that the tools do help make it easier.
  22. Sadly, an easy to use database set-up is one thing that seriously hold OpenOffice back. As far as I am concerned, what they should do is create a good interface to PostgreSQL or MySQL so that most people with a bit of computer skills can design and develop databases with out having to know what a join statement is....
  23. Accountant....staying behind...overtime....hmmm...maybe she was just being a bean counter. Aside from the joke, I know the feeling. I work for someone that is way too hyper and wants to do 50 things now so he can make more money. Causes me a lot of headaches because I come from more of a planning background where you sit down for five minutes about it, step out the process, and then go do it. We ordered some furniature. Well it didn't end up getting delievered...at elast not all of it. Turns out he didn't itimize what he wanted and the person punching in the numbers missed a couple peices. So I'm getting yelled at....then he wants to return it and it's special order, so no returns....then wanted to get lawyers involved. A week later we finally got all the pieces in, everything's together, but made him late to another appointment because he wants things done now even when not humanly possbile and schedules too many things to do without building in margins for error. So I know how the nice one moment, blastic the next.
  24. No. I'm not going to any time soon. I have a PS 2 and don't hardly play it anymore. I only buy used games (or when they come to the $20 price point new).
  25. After you create the account, go back in to prefrences and change the port from 587 to 25 and it works...I guess 587 must be a Mac Mail account.
