  1. Gmail is currently only in the beta stage, so they haven't quite opened it to the public yet. That said they have given out lots of invitations and there always seem to be people giving them away. Mine are currently all gone, but if you have a look around the forum you will see plenty of people offering their spare invitations. They will send you an email with a link to a registration page and you can sign up from there.
  2. I must admit I do go to the site and check guides for whichever games I am playing. The hard part is resisting the temptation to read them at the start, but I have found it is much more fun to have a go at getting through the game without help the first time, and then, as people here have said, using the guide to discover all the hidden parts of a game. If I've gone and bought a game I might as well get as much value out of it as i can after all.
  3. From what I know the engine is just a polished version of what was used in the first game rather than having been built completely from scratch. I certainly hope so if i want my PC to have a chance of running it well. But that still leavces scope for them to change the gameplay a bit and add new elements to the game. Given what they are working from and their reputation it should be well worth playing. I will be picking up a copy as soon as I see one in the shops, and will try to stay away from the xbox version so I don't ruin any surprises there may be.
  4. I'm just not sure that my mouse could survive Diablo 3. I seem to remember the last time I played Diablo 2 I kept finding it frustrating when I was swarmed by huge numbers of weak creatures. It just gets a little silly when all you have to do is keep clicking the button as fast as you can. I preferred the areas where you had to be a bit more aware because the enemies were more powerful. that said, it was never the most strategic game anyway, but it was good fun anyway.
  5. I have signed up for the free hosting here recently and my experience has been very positive so far. the service has all the features I want, and the cpanel interface makes it very easy to use. The details Dooga gave about the process of signing up are right. If you just want the basic package it is only 15 posts required though. You just can't use a domain with that package. I would recommend the hosting as well worth trying, and the forum is friendly enough to be worth staying on and posting in.
  6. I found there are enough points avilable that you can reach full light side points even if you make a few dark side decisions. given some of the dialogue trees you have to go through to find the options, it seems only fair that they let you make a mistake every once in a while. In KotoR II you will apparently affect your relationship with the other members of your party depending on what you do. that could be interesting to see, but I am a PC gamer, so will have to wait a while before playing I think.
  7. I knwo that here in the UK there have been several reported cases of violence involving knives in school lately. There is a strong desire to stop children being able to bring knives in, but it is looking very difficult to come up with some way to search them etc. which will appease people. If the school is given too much power complaints about human rights emerge, and people worry that schools will become like prisons. If the searches are not thorough enough, it seems likely to be ineffective and the cost can't be justified. A difficult situation all round.
  8. It's well worth digging out the CDs and having a look around, lots of people still play online, and because the game is older now, the people who do still play tend to be the ones who really enjoy it. Lots of games draw in all sorts of people when they are new who aren't necessarily the most fun to have in an online game, but as time goes by theys eem to get bored of it and move on, and the ones left are generally better. Saying that I haven't played for a fair while either now, so who knows how things may stand at the moment.
  9. Usefully enough, once you have completed the entire game and got all 120 stars, Yoshi gives you 99 extra lives. if only he'd given them to you a little earlier it would have saved a lot of time. Unfortunately, that's all there is. From someone who has the new version on the DS, how does it differ from the original one? I am curious to see how they've changed it and haven't had time to have a go myself yet. What do you use the second screen for?
  10. Evereyone knows how to answer these questions. For now, rowita is clearly cheating, and as such any score he manages should not be counted and we can each consider ourselves to have high scores instead. The day I manage to beat any of his scores I will freely admit that they were in fact possible all along since I clearly can't have cheated to beat him.As long as he keeps doing better than me though, he must be cheating.
  11. If you're having trouble in some of the technical bits, try the more general areas of the forum, just find a topic that interests you and you'll probably end up saying a fair bit without even noticing. Far better to do it that way than to find yourself looking for two more words to add to the end of your reply to make sure you have got a three line post.As for the reputation, as far as I can tell, and I am still new here and so welcome correction from someone with more idea what's going on, the reputation system is used for forum users to provide feedback about each other. If someone thinks I have been helpful, they might click to raise my reputation, while if they think I have done something particularly bad they might click to lower it. Similarly I might choose to raise/lower someone else's reputation based on how helpful they are.I hope all this helps, shout if you have more questions.
  12. What sort of machine are you looking at building? Let us know what sort of components you're looking at and that sort of thing. It will be interesting to see how you get on. Just be sure you're careful when you put everything together and that you remember static electricity can be evil and cost a fortune. I found out the hard way when swapping some RAM. Thankfully it was in an old machine, but it was still very annoying. One other thing to make sure of is that you have an adeuqate power supply and that it is well protected, whatever the system.
  13. Had a quick look and the following sites came up and seem to have a fair bit of information on them and be reasonably up to date. They're probably worth a browse at the very least. Apart from that i would recommend that if you have trouble with any part of the process you search for a forum which deals with that topic, you'll just about always find somebody willing to help, and they usually know what they're talking about. http://pc.buildyourown.org.uk/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://www.pcmech.com/article/build-your-own-pc-guide/
  14. As far as I know the minimum number of posts for the 20mb package is now 15 posts rather than 10. That's what it says on the main page and in the sticky thread on the hosting forum anyway. Looking through threads where people have been denied all the admins seem to be saying that 15 is the minimum, as well as that they need to be 3 lines long and relevant in some way. There is enough content in this forum though that 15 posts should not be a problem at all.
  15. Cable availability round here is low, so it's DSL for me. But then I was using dialup until very recently so I guess either would have been a great step up. Hopefully better DSL speeds will soon be available here as well, I am far enough from the local exchange that 1Mbps is the best I can currently get. That is certainly very fast, but my digital camera has a movie function and I have been sending a lot of video clips to friends and relatives lately, it would be nice if that could be a bit faster.
  16. I'm a big fan of tennis, playing when the weather is good and watching when it's not, and have also recently taken up ultimate frisbee. In fact, pretty well any sport where I can get far too tired chasing after something will do nicely for me. I am far too easily distracted by bright colours and spinning. Never get to play so much of either one round this time of year though, not enough daylight, usually freezing cold, and rain most of the time as well, it seems to make a point of appearing whenever I manage to organise a game at all. What about everyone else, which sports do you all prefer?
  17. Anyone know how the laptop processor types compare. I am looking to buy one a laptop for a relative, it will be transported by car and actually used indoors, so it need not be very portable, but has to be able to keep up with running a lot of programs at once. Similarly battery life is not really an issue as it will almost always be plugged into the wall. It has to be a lptop only because moving a full desktop between buildings takes too long. Any ideas?
  18. If you can arrange it, try playing a LAN game with people you know, it tends to be much more fun, and if they start getting too far ahead you can just get up and go and steal their mouse. I've found that usually makes it very hard for them to kill you. Generally though, I've never been a big fan of playing online with strangers, too many people are out to make a point and not enough just want to enjoy playing the game. Even on LAN games I tend to lose much too often, but it's more fun that way anyway.
  19. I just felt that the game didn't manage to live up to everything that had been reported beforehand. It is a good game, but I think I am not alone in having hoped for more when it was released. I haven't played it a great deal, I don't own an xbox myself, but I just found I wasn't drawn into it much. Personally i am waiting for Oblivion (sequel to Morrowind) but that's not going to be around for a very long time yet. They have worked on the combat system and the AI also sounds promising. Again though, it will be a question of how well it is implemented.
  20. I got here after a recommendation from a friend. I must admit I was put off at first because of the posting requirement. I have been a member of a few forums, some have been great but recently have found some full of not very pleasant people. I am glad to say this definitely isn't one of them. Hopefully I will get to know people here and enjoy it as much as some of the other places I still visit regularly. I have more free time now than I have done for a while so am really enjoying getting back into being on a few good forums.
  21. I like the logo, the reflection makes me think of the time we had a flood in one of the fields here and you could see all the buildings next to it reflected in the water there. I wish that would happen now, it's cold enough we'd get an ice rink. This year there doesn't even seem to be snow yet though. In fact, looking at that logo is making me terribly jealous of all those people with more festive weather than me, since I don't have to go anywhere tomorrow, I don't mind if traffic is blocked, fewer people able to make it here will mean more food for me.
  22. Is it just me, or do they seem to be offering so many beta accounts that they might as well just open it up to everyone. Everyone I know with a gmail account just seems to be piling up invitations because they can't think of anyone to give them to. I suppose it's nice to be able to get in early and get the address you want, but apart from that I can't really see much exclusivity in it any more. Anyone know when they are going to open it up to the public officially, or have they not yet told people?
  23. I have just emailed him your reply and a bit of explanation. It sounds like the sort of thing he would do, but I am just not sure what sort of time he has free at the moment with Christmas now and various work things he seems to be doing lately. The only other info I can think he might want would be how soon you need the stuff back, but I have already told him to let you know if he needs any more information from you. I think he is staying with family until 29th or so, so you may not get a reply from him for a few days, but I hope you work something out. If not, he may well know someone else to help. Best of luck with it in any case.
  24. I have installed and use regularly ad-aware and spybot. Both seem to work well and are kept up to date, and of course, being free makes them that much more attractive. I also had a problem the other day where I found my home page on internet explorer had been reset and kept changing back despite by best efforts (another reason I moved to firefox) and found the hijackthis was a great program to help find the various entries this virus had left on my pc. It also took a bit of help from people on another forum, but eventually I got it fixed.
