It still beats buying the CDs though. Since I now have my pc hooked up to my sound system and will (hopefully) soon be able to buy an mp3 player of my own I honestly can't see there being any reason for me to buy the CDs any more. To be honest I will glad when I can just buy the mp3 tracks as it will save me a lot of space for CD cases etc. Unfortunatelt I will probably just have the same problem with DVDs instead, and they have bigger cases! Eventually it'll all be stored on a pc or a portable device, but until then, I will have to keep putting up shelves.

Maybe you could remove the background while you perfect the logo and then add it back in once you're done to see how it all looks together. On the logo itself, I just thought a bevel effect might work quite nicely on the wings. If you could get it with one side of the bevel appearing lighter and the other darker it would really stand out more from whwichever background you choose to have I think. Now you just need to pick a game and a clan to join so you can use the thing.

Hello Craig.I myself am very new to web design, but got interested in it because of a good freind who's been playing around with websites for years now. He is always interested in something new and is usually willing to help people out. Can you give me a bit more detail on what sort of scale your website would be on. If it's going to be big he may not be able to fit it in, but if it's only a few page templates I will pass him the email address from your sig so he can get in touch. I should be browsing these forums fairly regularly so will try to get back to you asap.

I'm afraid I can't help you there. Showing you what I can do and making it better simply would not go together I am afraid. I fear I would only make it a great deal worse, and that's probably not going to help you much. Is it possible to make the wings and text a slightly different colour just to give it greater contrast against the background? Maybe that would work better than making the whole thing brighter. Again, my skills in this area don't exist, so i am hoping someone with more knowledge can chip in to help you.

Which one did you get? My brother has just got an ipod mini and I think it's great. It has enough space for a good song collection and is small enough to fit in a pocket more easily than the larger ones. I have lost many pockets to carrying too much so am glad of the change. the interface is really simple and getting music onot it from a pc is very fast too. It's definitely an improvement on having to carry round too many CDs. I am thinking of getting one for myself, but am also looking at similar things from other people. Any recommendations?

You need to get your priorities right. Schools and sports will be about forever. Games are best played when they are still relatively recent so you don't hit any legacy issues with drivers and the like. Seriously though i do know what you mean. Games like this have a horrible way of taking up too much time and so it becomes very difficult to play them when you only ever get a few minutes off at a time. I have ruined good memories of a few games by having to rush through bits of them and spend longer loading and saving than playing when I had too much to do so now tend only to play when I know I have a lot of time to spare.

Of the original clients I prefer msn. It was the first one I got to know and most people I know use it as well. Since going to university though my contact list includes lots of people on yahoo and aim so I have switched to trillian. After a bit of hunting around on their site I was even able to find a skin that made it look like msn for a while, though I have switched back since. I have also got used to using yahoo since they updated it a while ago and am starting to think a bit more of that, but too many of the features still feel more like gimmicks than useful additions.

I had to join in say that I agree with people about this game. It has a very good balance between all the different elements so that no individual part feels too strained. I did find it sometimes became a little too defensive for my tastes, but once you got used to it and worked out strategies to get past the defences it evened out a bit. Now I just need to worry about the fact that having heard someone mention the game I will probably dig it out and reinstall it later, and lose far too many hours catching up. i wouldn't usually mind, but the family expects me to show my face for Christmas dinner.

Anyone here played ground control 2. I found that was different enough to be interesting. You don't really have any basebuilding as such, your resources are based on controlling certain points on the map and reinforcements are flown in to landing zones if you control any. Unfortunately I can't quite get it running without stuttering on my pc, but it is good fun nonetheless. I would recommend giving it a go, there's bound to be a demo of it on the net somewhere. it also says you can play the missions in co-op mode, but I have yet to try that so can't say how good a feature it is.

You had me worried for a moment that I had done something to the brightness on my monitor. I tend to run it fairly low and from here it was very hard to make out the wings and the text. Once I pushed the brightness up a bit though I could make out the design and I like it. Only thing I can think of apart from the brightness if you're using it as a logo is to crop some of the background, you probably want as much focus as possible on the centre of the design. I certainly can't criticise much though, it looks good and is certainly much better than anything I could do.

What A (virtual) View! Using eight leftover LCDs, Ryan Hoagland
Jhearad replied to malapidp's topic in Science and Technology
I hate to be the one to say it, but what happens when the children next door put a football through the window? That would be an expensive enough mistake to cause someone a terrible headache. it would also be a lot of effort just to open the windows to let the air in I would imagine. Still, if he has as much traffic going by as we do here, maybe it's for the best that the air outside stays there. It would be fun to watch the windows suddenly switch to a screensaver though! -
The Gamers Box The Place To Be ...
Jhearad replied to Milli Riba's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I like the front page a lot. The graphics all look good individually and work very well together as well. As you said, the theme for the forum looks a bit out of place, but I'm sure you'll be able to find or create one that fits better without too much trouble given how well you seem to have managed the rest of the site. What are you using to create that front page template, and how do you get it to link to the forum as it seems to? I am just starting to play with web design so am always interested to see how people have done interesting things, and was very impressed by what you have managed. -
I tend to spend much too long playing games as well. http://www.addictinggames.com/ is fun. I have also managed to waste a lot of time on a few others. http://www.miniclip.com/games/en/ is good for short games which you can play in a few free minutes. http://www.pogo.com/?sl=2 is also fun, and you get to sign up and use tokens which you win by playing to enter their competition. I have never actually thought I will win anything, but it makes it feel you are almost wasting all that time on the games for a good reason, and a good reason to put off work for a while is never a bad thing.

I played this one for far too long before it's rceent upgrade, and was making a very cozy living as a fisherman and chef. I liked the fact that you were able to make money and progress however you wanted without being pushed into combat when you didn't want to be. I found it had the same problem a lot of MMORPG have though. The quality of the game can be affected totally by the other people playing. Sometimes I was in a very good server and the people who were there at the time seemed very nice, but at other times, especially in the towns, the places were all full of people typing abuse at each other. I hope it has improved since, but must admit I'm not sure I have the free time to start playing again for a while.

That's very impressive. It's a striking image and looks very professional. I've always been a fan of that sort of 3d image, all the more so because I have almost no artistic talent myself. I always end up having to content myself with admiring people like you who are able to produce these things. Out of sheer curiosity, which program did you use to create it? It seems to have generated some very nice lighting effects, the way you can see the reflections on some parts of the picture add a lot of depth to it.

I switched to firefow a little while ago and have been using it ever since. As well as being very clean and more secure, I think that the extension system makes it much easier to customise it to do all sorts of little things that save a lot of time. Personally I find the RSS feature particularly useful as I like to keep up to date with a lot of news sites but don't want to have to load up all the homepgaes every time just to see if there is a new headline I am interested in.

Anyone Here A Fan Of Bioware Games? Like baldurs gate
Jhearad replied to logophobia's topic in Computer Gaming
Diablo 2 was definitely blizzard. I enjoyed it at the time, but have found I never went back and played it again. the gameplay was a bit too simplistic to really pull me back into the game after I had gone through the first time. The bioware games are that little bit more complicated and so there is that much more that you can do differently. Baldur's gate was great fun to play and KotOR even more so. I am looking forward to the second one. Just my thoughts, but there you go. -
Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic Ii Light Side or Dark Side?
Jhearad replied to synapticflame's topic in Computer Gaming
It pays to make up your mind and decide one way or the other right from the start of the game. As you go on you tend to use force powers more and more, so having the cost of use lowered for either dark or light side powers, whichever way you decide to go, makes life a lot easier. I found it hard to do this the first time as well though, I didn't know how much of a difference it would make so I didn't do what I should have done in terms of chasing light side points and choosing light side force powers. -
I'm always keen to try a new RPG, but was wondering if anyone could give me a little more information on the series or point me in the right direction. I was also wondering if anyone knew how easy it would be to find in the UK. In my experience many older or more obscure games can be very hard to get hold of, and I always like to play a series through from the first game, even if it does mean wasting too much time trying to get dos games running on an xp machine.

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic Ii Light Side or Dark Side?
Jhearad replied to synapticflame's topic in Computer Gaming
I went for light side in the first game and I think I will do the same in the second when it comes out. The heal ability coupled with using speed to avoid enemy attacks for a while make you almost impossible to kill, especially once you are fully light side and the cost of using the powers goes down. As for attacking, I used the flurry feat with force speed, you can get in many hits for each of theirs. -
I find that the pop3 access is useful as it lets me run gmail through thunderbird, which I use as my main email client for other accounts. Because I already have the program set up and have to use anyway, it makes sense to use it for gmail as well, and means that i only have to keep one central address book up to date. It would be nice if there was some way to use the conversation and label features on thunderbird without having to set them up separately. These can currently be achieved through thunderbird, but in a slightly different way which means they may not always match.

if you're adding a site map, make it a simple, plain text site map. Lots of people make site maps which use graphics for all the links or flash animations or various types of scripting. Not all search engines will deal with such things properly. If you keep the sitemap page simple it will be easily recorded, and of course will contain links to all your pages.

Great Tutorial Site. www.htmldog.com
Jhearad replied to Psyched's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Thanks a lot for the link. I am starting to meddle with website creation myself and was having a lot of trouble working out how to get the CSS to work as I wanted it to. I went through the guide on the site and have finally got to grips with which styles will override others and am starting to get my pages looking the way I had planned. Does anyone happen to know of any good sites for tutorials on CSS geared specifically toward doing it through dreamweaver? Any help much appreciated, believe me when i say I need it.
