  6. Marketing Techniques for the 'Real World' 1. Business cards. Leave a few in the local library or with other local businesses where prospects gather (with permission, of course); include a card in your postal mail; tack up a card on the bulletin board at your grocery store, etc. One place that offers quality, professional business cards at reasonable prices is ExtraValue.com, http://www.extravalue.com/ . On a tight budget? Go to VistaPrint for free trial cards: http://www.vistaprint.de/?langid=3&xnav=ipaddr&rd=1&GP=9%2f26%2f2016+4%3a11%3a13+PM&GPS=4095184472&GNF=0 . 2. Direct mail. Flyers, brochures, catalogs, coupons.... there are all sorts of things you can send through the mail. Need help? Freelancers can create pretty much any type of direct mail promotional items for you at competitive rates. Try https://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=buildyourhomebiz&e=com . 3. Use your car! How much time do you spend driving (or, unfortunately, sitting stuck in traffic)? Take advantage of this opportunity by placing your URL on your car for everyone to see. Web Decals offers custom-printed decals that quickly and easily attach to your car's windshield: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It's also a good idea to keep a few business cards, brochures, flyers, or other information in your car that you can give out to people who stop to inquire about your business. 4. Newspaper advertising. Keep in mind that classified ads are usually extremely short; you'll need a punchy, compelling ad that fits into just a few lines. Nationwide Newspapers offers classified advertising in over 8000 newspapers across the United States: http://www.nationwideadvertising.com/ U.S. Media Inc., http://www.usmediainc.com/ , specializes in many types of 'offline' advertising, including newspapers, radio, TV, magazines, and more. 5. Get to the 'heart' of your audience by advertising in a quality magazine with loyal readers. U.S. Media Inc. lists a wide variety of trade and consumer magazines and publications. Contact their reps for more information: http://www.usmediainc.com/ 6. Participate in trade shows. Get exposure by networking with others in your industry. While you're there, you can even make a pen and paper available to collect the email addresses and/or postal addresses of people interested in receiving your newsletter or additional information about your product or service. Visit the Trade Show News Network to search for trade shows of all types in industries worldwide: http://www.tsnn.com/ 7. Visit your local Chamber of Commerce. They may be able to offer you suggestions on where you can promote your business locally. 8. Send out postcards. Postcards are short, attractive, and readers can easily see your information 'at-a-glance.' Don't forget to display your URL! http://www.extravalue.com/ is a great place to get professional, quality cards at very reasonable rates. 9. Put your URL on every piece of printed material that leaves your office. This includes brochures, business cards, flyers, faxes, labels, letterhead, invoices, cheques, envelopes, and anything else you can think of. 10. Consider using promotional items such as notepads, pens, mugs, etc. Imprint these items with your URL. Give some away as gifts to your best clients. You can even sell them online! iPrint is one place you can find 'do-it- yourself' promotional items, including t-shirts, golf balls, pens, mugs, clocks, tote bags, and much more: http://www.iprint.com/estore/?networkId=store . And at CafePress.com you can upload your artwork, set your prices, and you're ready to sell. 11. State your URL on your voice mail message. Say your standard spiel, then add something like, 'For more information on [your product], visit our website at MyDomain.com.; uReach is a service that offers all-in-one communications service that includes voice mail, email, and faxes. http://www.ureach.com/ 12. Seek potential partnerships with complementary businesses. For example, let's say you sell nutriotionals. You could approach local health clubs and spas and offer to share the cost of their next direct mail campaign: when they mail a postcard or letter inviting their clients to return, you also offer their clients a discount on your nutrionals. This way you both reduce your costs... you reach a targeted audience quickly, easily, and through a trusted party (the other business)... and your business 'partner' can make a valuable product available at a discount to their customers.

  10. 1. Getting rich isn't about money Peter Lynch says if you spend 15 minutes a year studying the economy, that's 10 minutes too many. And when money guru Ric Edelman researched 5,000 millionaires for "Ordinary People, Extraordinary Wealth," he discovered that millionaires spend an average of just six minutes a day on personal finance. They have better things to do. Get a life! 2. Accentuate the positive Most of us have read books like "Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude." That message was summarized for me by a U.S. Army Special Forces instructor, a veteran of 26 years: "If you have a guy with all the survival training in the world who has a negative attitude and a guy who doesn't have a clue but has a positive attitude, I guarantee you that the guy with a positive attitude is coming out of the woods alive. Simple as that." 3. Think differently Go inside "The Millionaire Mind" with author George Stanley: "They think differently from the crowd ... It pays to be different." Yes, being different helps build wealth. That's the central theme of his work: Don't fit in, go your own way. 4. Quit doing what you hate Many people live in quiet desperation, waiting for retirement, doing something they hate. Marcus Buckingham put it very simply in his new book, "The One Thing You Need to Know:" Figure out what you don't like doing then stop doing it. 5. Do what you love You've heard all the pep talks: Follow your bliss; do what you love, money will follow. Never forget Stanley's bottom line: "If you are creative enough to select the ideal vocation, you can win, win big-time. The really brilliant millionaires are those who selected a vocation that they love." 6. Find 'the real you!' Working in a career that doesn't fit right is exhausting and stressful. You're less efficient, less productive. Get in sync with the real you. Get help from a career counselor. Read books on personality types. In "The Millionaire Code" I identify 16 basic types to help people focus on their dreams. Buckingham's "Now Discover Your Strengths" is another example. Find the real you, go for it and never turn back! 7. Invest in 'You, Inc.' Tired of working for Corporate America? Become an entrepreneur. Create your own business. Read Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad" series. Browse through "EBay for Dummies." Open a Starbucks franchise. Most millionaires work for themselves, pay less in tax, live below their means and build equity in themselves. 8. Live with passion Believe in something. Listen to the still small voice. What is it: Love, family, jazz, art, golf, writing, fishing, inventing? Whatever it is, it's you. And it's priceless. My mentor Joseph Campbell said: "If you follow your bliss, you will always have your bliss, money or not. If you follow money, you may lose it, and you will have nothing." 9. Live in the moment A good friend is in his 60s. When I mention retirement planning, he laughs. He talks about his next vacation. His new jet skis. He's survived divorce, bankruptcy, foreclosure, health problems. He has a successful business, nice house, lots of debt. He's at risk. I couldn't do it, but he's happy. We all have friends like him, living in their moment. You need to live in yours. 10. Make a difference! Most of us focus on our little world and our future. Millionaires dream of making the world a better place, with visions of a better tomorrow for everyone. They love helping people. I'll bet you have such a dream. Discover the real meaning of life by going beyond yourself and make a difference! Remember, being a millionaire is all in your head. If you got the right attitude, if you feel it, if you believe you're a millionaire, you're already there. The money will follow. Trust me.
