Thanks, but I'm not looking for a how-to guide specifically. And no, I'm not looking for a girlfriend, the email that I read was something like "100 ways to know if she likes you" or something along the lines of that. I think I know who forwarded me the email, so I messaged her on Facebook to see if she still has it. I hope I got the right person with the right message. You call WikiHow a multiplayer notepad game? Does this apply to other wikis as well?

[Please move this topic to an appropriate topic if applicable. I didn't know where to post it exactly] Do you ever come across email chain letters that say something like: Or things like this: Well I am on the hunt for an EXTREMELY important chain letter that is of the 2nd variety. It was quite lengthy, and consisted of maybe 50-120 lines on tips to get a boy/girlfriend. I need to reread the contents on this email and extract the usefulness of this information. If anyone comes across this in their inbox or on the internet, please send it to me (on the forum, not by email of course). It is critical to locate this message, I know it is being circulated somewhere, but I accidentally deleted it. I checked through my Hotmail inbox several times but could not find this exactly one!!! Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Doctype declarations are being used! Personally, I prefer to view webpages with Doctype declarations because it shows that they somewhat care about web standards, althoug WYSIWYG editors insert them now, but may not generate valid pages.Search engines do not look for META tags anymore, but they have other uses for specifying metadata.

Why Should I Buy A Mac? Some questions
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Websites and Web Designing
So you mean I cannot find viruses/malware applications to run on a Mac? Well I prefer choosing different packages rather than having everything. That's (one of the reasons) why there's something called Firefox and Opera, if you know what I mean. That will seriously take some getting used to. Of course you have to think differently and have an open mind to try new things. The desktop shell, as you call it, is not "fancy" in my opinions, I'd rather run GNOME over that (I haven't tried KDE yet). If I get Windows Vista, I would want the UAC prompt to pop up when I point to menus and click Start. The security in Linux and Macs are probably better, but I still would prefer having UAC. I just read about this in some newspaper. -
Now that I've had a chance to use a Mac computer, it seems too easy to use once you know where stuff is. Being a fast learner, I don't like it very much. Because I am used to using Windows, I have some questions about Macs for the Mac experts around here.1. Where is the text editor? Gedit (or Pico) in Linux, Notepad in Windows, ??? in Mac.2. iWeb. As I understand from reading the page on Apple, iWeb allows you to instantly publish your photos, movies, etc to the web with a few clicks. Where do you write the HTML code in this application?3. Are there any virus/spyware that are compatible with Mac that I can install/run?4. Is there Windows Live Messenger for Mac? Most of my friends use Windows Live, so that is one of my must-have applications.5. Are there different flavours of Mac OS X? For Windows Vista, there is Home Premium, Home Basic, Business, Ultimate and Starter. I have a variety to choose from that way.6. Is Microsoft Office for Mac the same as Microsoft Office for Windows? With the same features and everything?7. Is it true that Linux applications are Mac-compatible?8. Where is the taskbar? The Dock is similar to the All Programs menu, and the Menu bar has a clock, but where is the taskbar?9. Is there any Speech Recognition technology in Mac?10. The final question: Is there such a feature as User Account Control? There is in Vista (which is the biggest reason I like it), and in Ubuntu (which I enjoy very much). If Mac doesn't have it, that will definitely by a huge issue for me, as the whole point of upgrading to Vista is to experience the fun and exciting UAC!I'll find out if Mac is for me, or that I should stick with Windows and Ubuntu.

I had that sound before, if I know what you are referring to. Turns out I had to tap the computer a few times and it disappeared. Usually happens more when booting into Linux though. Also, check if there are any CDs in the drive that may be reading by Windows. Does the sound occur only when you use Firefox, or does it occur with any other software?

At this time, my site is working. cPanel is up and MySQL databases are accessible. That version of Apache is unstable as well as really old. Please upgrade! Is there a suspicious cause of server overloading? Too many users? Cracked accounts? Sites becoming too popular? Heavy MySQL use?

Mostly all of my friends have a Facebook profile, it is absolutely awesome! I use Facebook to get pictures off of. I do recommend that if your friends have Facebook, and if they don't, tell them to sign up!Flickr is a good choice also, it allows you to specify Creative Commons licenses for your photos, which in my opinion is a good thing for legal issues nowadays.Hope this helps

I had problems for half a month accessing my cPanel, FTP and site. Finally Xisto - Support fixed it on live chat, after phoning my ISP and screwing up the Lokkit Ubuntu Firewall. The support ticket that I submitted isn't even responded to yet. Don't even bother with that, it'll just waste your hosting credits.I was accessing it fine yesterday, haven't tried today.Ok just tried, and it is now inaccessible again! Argh!

Powerpoint Based Games! I know how to make them
FirefoxRocks replied to jbitkill's topic in Programming
OK I wouldn't recommend making it on PowerPoint, I do recommend using server side scripting (PHP or ASP) to do it, although that is way beyond my knowledge. You can also try actual programming, like C or Basic or even Flash-based development, that may be a bit easier if you have some prior knowledge. -
Supercooling tis a super cool thing.
FirefoxRocks replied to Miles's topic in Science and Technology
I saw a video of this on YouTube a few weeks ago. Most microwave manufacturers do tell you to not use the product for boiling water, in the "Important Safety Precautions" at the front of the manual. THey also tell you not to use the appliance for drying clothes, but that's another matter.A couple of years ago a friend sent an email around telling people about what can happen when you boil water in microwave ovens. Guess it is true.As for supercooling, can you give some more instructions on how to do it? -
Are you joking?! Dreamweaver absolutely sucks! It generates pages which aren't even close to valid HTML 4.01 Transitional (the default option). Make XHTML complaint doesn't really help that much. I would rather write clean XHTML code by hand, it's more efficient and much more fun. For someone used to working in Dreamweaver, it might be a little more time consuming, but it provides many more advantages than using a WYSIWYG editor. I agree. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all good tutorials and stuff teach you writing code (web development or software programming) by hand first, whether it is C (later C++), Basic, HTML (later XHTML), JavaScript or whatever else you use. Writing code by hand is clean and efficient, you know what you are doing and don't have to rely on the software. If you later decide to move out of Dreamweaver (or Microsoft Visual Studio software), you know what you wrote at least. It is also an excellent learning experience.

Can't Access Astahost Hosteed Sites (including Cpanel And Ftp)
FirefoxRocks replied to Sten's topic in Web Hosting Support
I found a CGI proxy that allowed me to transfer a backup of my sites/databases to a GZIP file, but it was very scary as my password could have been captured. Still no FTP yet. -
I haven't tried the Visual Studio Express 2008 edition yet. The most annoying this is getting it to install! You need to exit all software and ensure that your Internet connection is working 100% of the time because once the connection is dropped, even for half a second, it never reconnects and you have to delete the temp files and start over again. Downloaded the DVD version overnight, will install at some point. I hate that the SQL thing has to install with any of the products! Why would I need that? Microsoft Update always shows updates for Visual Studio Express 2005, seems to update them, but then it says that there are the updates to install, the same ones! Hope this doesn't happen with Visual Studio Express 2008!

Can't Access Astahost Hosteed Sites (including Cpanel And Ftp)
FirefoxRocks replied to Sten's topic in Web Hosting Support
I'm on a static IP for most of the time, unless I pick up a different IP on very rare occasions. My ISP tested it on their systems both on their network (same as mine) and on a different network and it was working. Xisto said that my IP address was not banned. It's been 20 days already!!! -

Ie8 Passes Acid 2 Test
FirefoxRocks replied to xboxrulz1405241485's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I read about this on Download.com. It seems excellent that Microsoft is taking one step further in complying with standards. Unfortunately, Acid2 is designed to help browsers fix bugs and render incorrect pages by certain fallback restraints and isn't necessarily to test standards.I obviously use Firefox, but I do use Safari and Opera also. Flock for social networking sometimes, and SeaMonkey installed for the fastest speed in Gecko-based (Firefox addons drag me down a little). It is easy designing for standard-complaint browsers, once it works in Opera, it works in Firefox almost always. Designing for IE takes extra effort. One thing is that Windows XP was released in 2001, almost 7 years ago. The minimum design compatibility is IE6, although either many people aren't using Windows XP yet (Windows 9x/ME anyone?) or people aren't upgrading to IE7 for some reason. It is easier to design for IE7, much easier to trigger standards mode if you know what I mean. With IE8, it has to be compatible with Windows XP because the majority of people aren't in a rush to move towards Vista (expensive and high system requirements) and will stick with Windows XP for a long time. -
Blocked From My Own Account HELP
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Web Hosting Support
Ok this is really ticking me off that I submitted a support ticket to Xisto for about a week and they haven't responded yet!!!I am relying on a CGI proxy to manage my MySQL databases, I can't navigate through file manager because images won't load!I should get a refund for this, but since I'm on free hosting, I guess this is all I'll get. -

Blocked From My Own Account HELP
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Web Hosting Support
I did that already, submitted a support ticket. But the thing is, the site is accessible from OTHER networks, and even my ISP can access it. It is accessible, as people said. Try it right now. The thing is inaccessible at my computer, which is really strange.
