Ok, I'm a bit confused by the 2 options I've been given, because apparently the Core 2 Duo processor is faster than the Core 2 Quad processor. The speed is faster and Dell said so also. But is this true? The first option is this: IntelÂŽ Coreâ˘2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB) Now unfortunately, this option is not available anymore unless I purchase an XPS system, which is much too powerful and expensive. The option given this week to the Inspiron systems are: IntelÂŽ Coreâ˘2 Duo Processor E8200 (6MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1333FSB) Now by looking at the clock speed, 2.66 GHz is more than 2.4GHz, and as explained by xboxrulz, more system bus means faster response times. So 1333 FSB is more than 1066 FSB, that means it is faster, correct? The thing is, I've always thought that Quad Core processors are faster than Core 2 Duo, and it seems to be this way when watching the Intel commercial provided by Dell. So which one is the better one?

I would recommend the use of several antispyware applications such as Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, Bazooka Scanner, SpywareBlaster and Windows Defender. Also, I do not recommend using Internet Explorer unless absolutely necessary (Windows Updates, certain IE-only sites, etc). I recommend the use of Mozilla Firefox, Opera or Safari for web browsing as they are more secure and have more features.If your homepage DOES get hijacked in Internet Explorer, Spybot Search & Destroy has an option to reset it to a page of your choice.

Most Windows games work on Wine with minor flaws but the more intense/complicated/detailed the game is, the more likely it will have more flaws on Wine. Unless you are dying to play games on Windows, the Linux games and online Flash games (Facebook's MindJolt Games, etc) are very good and some are quite intense and complex.

You can learn SVG by using the free tutorials given on the web and by reading the W3C SVG specification. SVG allows animating the specific path/shape/element. Currently, only Opera supports it (I think), but Mozilla is planning to add more SVG support in the near future (I think).

I didn't find that site that you gave particularly helpful. It gave a few free resources such as free backgrounds and clipart but for HTML and that, I couldn't find the actual content. Knowledge of HTML is crucial when developing a site so therefore I would recommend the site W3Schools.

Sorry, but IE8 has full CSS 2.1 support! IE was the first browser to support CSS by the way, and it has fallen behind everyone else in IE 7 compared to Firefox 2, Opera 9 and Safari 3.1. Besides, it's far too early to worry about IE8, we still need to ensure full compatibility for IE 7 for the next couple of years, and we still should continue support IE 6 for a while if possible, although that isn't exactly the biggest priority (depending on your target audience).

For compatibility issues, I think what you want is Windows XP. With a firewall, anti-virus, a secure browser (Opera/Firefox) and a couple of antispyware software, the computer can be more secure. To prevent programs from freezing, monitor your system resource usage through Task Manager and apply tweaks to registry settings as necessary.For security and performance, you may want to look towards a different type of operating system called "Linux". It is based in UNIX, and has few (if any) security holes in it. For a first-time user, I would recommend Ubuntu (there are many distributions of Linux available, Ubuntu is probably the easiest one). The major issue with Linux is that is isn't compatible with much of the commercial software available today, but there are many free alternatives. If you want to play commercial games on Linux though, that is almost not a option because they are designed for Windows (and sometimes Mac) only.There's 2 further opinions to consider. This is just the same as downloading Windows on LimeWire. It's illegal, it's called software piracy. In addition, the file that you download may contain viruses or other types of potentially dangerous/unwanted malware. It is dangerous to download exe files from peer-to-peer networks such as Gnutella (LimeWire).And yes, police are tracking people through their IP address on P2P networks in order to reduce the amount of illegal filesharing and such. Please buy music and software legally, don't steal!

If you are looking for a content management system but don't know which one to pick, here is a site where you can test all of them, in Administrator mode to see which one suits you best. http://www.opensourcecms.com/ This site allows you to do whatever you want with a CMS system for testing purposes. It gives you administrative access to the control panel so you can create/delete content without messing up something and to see if it is easy enough for you to use. The systems are wiped out after a predetermined time of 2 hours, so that everything is refreshed again. In addition to CMS, there are blogging systems, forums, e-commerce, image galleries, e-learning, wikis and other PHP things to test out there. Ok I've used Ubuntu for about 6 months now and so far everything has gone well. As for the distribution for my old system, I think I'm gonna give up on that right now because we are currently planning to purchase a new system with Windows Vista (yay user account control!) I might decide to install Ubuntu onto the new system but I may decide not to for the time being.I have started learning more command line stuff and using the terminal more often to do things like install programs and update. 2 things that I still don't know how to do is rename files and copy directory trees (in DOS: ren and xcopy). But I feel that I've learned a lot since I started using Linux, which is a good thing./

Well I would recommend either SMF, which I see others have already recommended to you, but the options panel can be quite overwhelming when trying to set it up. It isn't too complicated if you are up to the challenge. Personally, I would use phpBB3, because of it's ease of use, appearance and popularity, as well as its wide range of community members which can provide support and addons to the forum. I've read this informative tutorial throughly and found that this is a valuable concept to designing in CSS. In addition to font sizes, margins and paddings can also be specified in the relative unit of em, and more rarely width, height, border and positioning selectors. With regards to using %, it actually takes the font size of the parent element if you are specifying the value as a font size.As for specifying the page width to be 780px to accomodate the screen resolution of 800*600, I think that the idea is ok because most users screen resolutions are at 1024*768 up to 1280*1024. The layout shouldn't look too small in either of those layouts, with a width of 780px. And visually impaired users would probably set the screen to 800*600, which is perfect for the page. However the use of percents to set <body> width is still recommended as it is called "liquid design".Thanks for writing this informative post, I'll be sure to use these techniques when updating my CSS.

Did you try to install TaskSwitch on Windows Vista? If so, you don't need it. It is designed for Windows XP. However if you installed in on Windows XP, try opening 3 or more windows and pressing Alt+Tab.

If you need a homepage to access your sites quickly and is editable, design your own in HTML. It isn't too hard and has unlimited customization. You can add as many links as you want and you can get iframes to display RSS feeds in, etc. By the way, Opera's speed dial is not a home page, but it can be used as one. Personally, my home page in all browsers is Facebook, because that's the site I use most often. Exception is in Firefox, I have the Facebook toolbar, so I don't need it as my home page. Instead, I have dell.ca as my homepage. And yes, I type https://www.google.ca/?gws_rd=ssl very fast also.

You could also transform the PDF file into several images or completely into HTML, provided that the PDF files aren't too huge to do that. You can also try loading the file into a word processor and saving it as a DOC or ODT file, but I'm not sure if it can work this way.

Wikimedia is a library of information, media, quotes, dictionaries, etc, etc which makes it so popular due to the fact of what it is. Google came from 2 high school students who wanted a way to find information on the Internet in a more efficient way (or so I've heard).The one that I'm most interested in knowing more about here is Facebook, as shown in topic. I know that he started Facebook in his university and eventually expanded it throughout other universities and eventually through high schools, colleges and now everyone can register. But what ddi he do in order to grow popularity and to create this amazing web service?What are your theories? How did they start? By a huge book of plans and goal? By a single PHP page? By getting aliens to program their files onto a bunch of servers?

Do you have some concrete evidence of that? Have you performed various performance tests to measure the improvement? Is it faster during start-up, or throughout the entire computing session? These are some factors that could be used to prove your point further, if you wish. Otherwise, my opinion is that this is a waste of time and will degrade your system components.

I have used this method for quite a while now. Usually I have Firefox open so I use Firefox's FTP interface but sometimes I use Windows Explorer instead. I also must use this at school to upload to the school server as they don't have any FTP clients or Firefox there, otherwise it's just the command line.
