Blocked From My Own Account HELP
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Web Hosting Support
I have an Ubuntu Live CD, and it still doesn't work! I contacted my ISP this evening, they checked a few things. At their location, about 350km away from my town, they could connect through their own network. They told me that I was on the same network that they were on, and they also tried from a different network and it was ok. We then did a traceroute to determine where the connection was dropped. Here are the results: So according to this, the connection is dropped at the mzima server. Does Xisto use those or what? Maybe it is because of my geographic location. But anyways, is there a way to connect in a different path? -
New Computer What do you recommend?
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Hardware Workshop
Cheaper? So what? Overclocking? Isn't that disabled by manufacturers by default? And why would you need to overclock it? What is front side bus? 64-bit? Does that mean it needs to run Windows 64-bit version? If so, then I'm not even going to think about it. If all the components are connected together in tight integration, does this mean the memory, motherboard, Ethernet controller and CPU are connected as 1 component? -

That's true, there isn't any extra PCI slots in my current system to insert a wireless network card in. Guess it will have to be external. $500 isn't out of my price range. I'm looking at something around $1000 (incl. tax). No we didn't buy one yet because Dell took out the cheap option (forcing you to buy 500GB of hard drive if you want something relatively cheaper). Can anyone give me reasons to get AMD instead of Intel? -
Blocked From My Own Account HELP
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Web Hosting Support
Well I contacted Xisto - Support and they said that my IP address wasn't blocked on the server firewall. They told me to check with my ISP, I will do that this evening I guess. If they can't find anything then I don't know how to fix this!!! -
Blocked From My Own Account HELP
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Web Hosting Support
I tried Firefox 3 beta, it used to be no problems, so I thought that the update caused trouble. Opera didn't work too, Safari failed next. Internet Explorer obviously couldn't connect. It's the same in Linux, and as I said, accessing it from an open HTTP proxy worked fine, I think that my IP address is blacklisted or something. -
Ok this is really strange. I am blocked from accessing my own site and cPanel. When I go to http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ or http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ , it can't connect to the server. I tried it at school, both cPanel and main site, and it works fine. Initially I thought it was because I installed ZoneAlarm on my computer so it blocked me but I tried disabling everything and it still won't connect. I used an insecure web proxy server to connect to be cPanel (really dangerous, I know) and checked for IP deny but there isn't anything there. I also tried accessing http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ , which is not accessible as well. Any idea what caused the problem? My friends are accessing it fine, and this is really critical that I need access.

Ie 7 Beta Pics! Pics of the upcoming Internet Explorer 7
FirefoxRocks replied to pomjim's topic in Websites and Web Designing
IE7 has more security holes than Firefox-based software.Firefox and Opera are faster than IE almost all of the time. Opera is a tad faster than Firefox at certain times, Safari is still reasonably fast. Of course all the Firefox derivatives (Flock, Netscape, etc) are the same.I'm using Firefox 3 beta right now and it is working quite good. -
I used to be addicted to this. I do log on often (everyday in December for Advent Calendar prizes), but not as often as I used to about 3 years ago.I am a teen, I still enjoy this game to a limited extent, I don't do much gaming anyways. I do remember when my friends used to play Neopets with me on our own accounts, that was much more fun. Punchbag Bob was sure time-consuming to defeat :rolleyes:My account is environment312 if anyone wants to know my pet statistics.

The first thing to try is to shut off all other unnecessary applications first (instant messaging, media players, etc).Or try rebooting your computer first to clear out the memory. Now if you cannot connect, disable your firewall software (ZoneAlarm, Norton Personal Firewall, Windows Firewall, etc).Try connecting again and see if it works. If it still does not work, reboot the computer into safe mode with networking and launch the antivirus software manually. Now try connecting again. If it works, it has to be a startup program or system service blocking it. You may wish to research further into that.If disabling the firewall works, just add Panda AntiVirus to your firewall's trusted software list to permit the software to send/receive connections.Hope that helps.

I've never heard of that before, ClamWin is more popular and trusted. It can be a portable application too. http://portableapps.com/apps/security/clamwin_portable I once had to use it when Windows wouldn't boot up properly, turns out it wasn't a virus though.

Has anyone tried frozen-bubble? It is quite cool, my parents enjoy it to some extent (at least that's one of the reasons they boot into Linux)The games included with Ubuntu are good enough for me, I don't do a lot of gaming. I find that Frets On Fire (a guitar hero alternative) works better in Linux than in Windows. Some Flash games are unresponsive though.Does anyone know how I can install Shockwave on Linux? I tried using IEs for Linux to use ActiveX but there is no such thing as ActiveX so I can't play MSN Zone Games

To investigate time travel, we need to know what time is. Does anyone have an answer for that? https://www.google.ca/search?q=define:time. So technically that means that time is a relative unit of measurement (like pixels), but relative to what?

New Computer What do you recommend?
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Hardware Workshop
Well I'm not looking into extreme gaming, it is pretty well normal usage. And I forced myself to wait until Windows Vista Service Pack 1 before purchasing the new system. I hope it is worth it. -
We just learned the basics of Microsoft Access in school and I have no idea of how it is used for other than organize information for companies. It isn't very flexible and is quite confusing to use. I think it is best suited for info that doesn't need to be "accessed" often as adding/editing records are easy enough, but for people logging on and off of it noone can seem to find anything like that.I highly recommend using MySQL and PHP (or ASP + MSSQL if you are on Windows) and doing a database from there. That's what I use and that is what major companies use.
-
I totally agree with that. I love to code using XHTML and of course with that you need CSS too, but I do learn JavaScript here and there to spruce up my pages a little (not something dramatic flash text, just little things executed onmouseover and stuff). I do use PHP for server-side scripting needs, and I do use MySQL for databases, which is an essential. HTML is plain and not dynamic because it is designed to be a markup language. It is designed to tell browsers how to display the page. PHP is dynamic because it is a server-side language to generate dynamic content. CSS is the language for styling HTML/XHTML documents but unfortunately I need to write separate CSS for Internet Explorer because its CSS support isn't very good XML is for organizing data which I use to organize data XSLT is to transform the XML files into nicely formed XHTML documents so that people can read them easily. Remember, even expert developers (Yahoo!, Google, Facebook, etc) do not memorize all functions in PHP, they refer to reference material at times when necessary.

Synchronization Software Please express some ideas
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Software
I am actually avoiding using the BETA server now and doing most of my editing on the USB flash drive.Does anyone know how to run XAMPP that can act as a server, but does not allow inbound connections on port 80? Or basically I need PHP commands to execute when I open them in the browser. -
Temporary "disabling" Firefox Make it un-usable.

Actually I just installed ZoneAlarm free version after Windows Live OneCare BETA expired. No this is not an option because Internet traffic must go through at all times, I just need to block a (some) browser(s). -
Review About Ubuntu 7.10 NOT 7.04, BUT 7.10
FirefoxRocks replied to jbitkill's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I am using Ubuntu 7.10 and it is working great.Ubuntu tries to bundle in as many programs as possible that people use often (browser, office suite, a whole lot of games, etc). You can use Synaptic to install additional components, but I need to learn more terminal stuff, so I use apt-get install more often to practise.I am quite happy with the GNOME desktop interface however I am willing to try new things so I may try KDE but I do not know what advantages there are to the GNOME desktop.I pronounced Ubuntu as you-BUN-tu at first because that is how I assumed it was to be pronounced. Then I saw a CNET TV video saying that Wubi can install Ubuntu without partitioning and the guy pronounced it as OOH-bun-tu so I was like wow I was totally off. -
Internet Explorer 5, 5.5, 6 And 7 In Linux
FirefoxRocks replied to WaLhEZ's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I actually used this for a while now. I didn't find the Internet Explorer 7 though, how did you get that? I need to use IE for web development purposes and I do not like rebooting into Windows XP everytime I needed to test a page layout, etc. With this, I can still test my site compatibility with IE.A problem with this IE is that it doesn't support ActiveX controls, therefore I still can't play MSN Zone games. Well at least it's more secure that way I think. -
I would never even have thought of signing up someone else's email for this. This is not a joke. I am using my own email address for this.If you mean by which topic of newsletters that I would like to receive, then I would receive anything at all as long as it is legal. No I do not have any intention of bombing someone's email account with spam.
-
Ok, there aren't enough for me to sign up there and plus, that will take forever!
-
Does anyone know a site of which you can sign up for a whole bunch of public mailing lists and newsletters by email? I do not want to have to visit millions of sites to signup for every newsletter possible on the Internet. Is it possible to use some software to get the forms to submit your email address?Of course I do not want to sign up for any illegal stuff, so I would have to watch. With the email address that I use for this, I will disable all spam filters. Is there something like the ultimate mailing list sign upper?

I found a better way to do this, redirect them to a non-existant proxy server and disable the Options/about:config panel. The only problem now is that he uses Opera! -
New Computer What do you recommend?
FirefoxRocks replied to FirefoxRocks's topic in Hardware Workshop
Well car problems are more variable than computer problems in terms of hardware (parts). I'm no expert but that's my opinion. I let warranty take priority over EVERYTHING else. All the problems that we had were completely fixable, some requiring a mere system restore, some taking a reinstallation of Windows XP. Either way, tech support is fun. What's fun about calling tech support? Pressing the buttons, entering your Express Service Code, waiting more than 1 hour (usually I have the time), listening to the music while I'm waiting, explaining the problem, learning how to fix the problem, fixing the problem, doing the customer satisfaction survey that arrives in my email within 3 hours. I was prepared to hit the Checkout button today, but I guess we will wait until about 1 week before Christmas to see if machine prices will drop further, the rebate will likely be dropped in January, so I am highly advising my dad to purchase the system before January. -
Yahoo! Messenger 9 Beta Preliminary Review
FirefoxRocks replied to tansqrx's topic in Search Engines
I don't use Yahoo! Messenger much, I don't have any friends that use it. Actually I have 1, but I chat with them on Skype instead.I mainly use Windows Live Messenger, it's what everyone in my school uses. Windows Live Messenger and Facebook, the perfect combination for the majority of people around here.Developers of such popular applications should ensure backwards compatibility with the software as people will not rush to upgrade stuff. Well, Windows Vista is a different story, but still...A question that I would like answered:Is Yahoo! Messenger still that slow and memory-hogging application that Yahoo! Messenger 8.1 is?The reason I don't use it is because the GUI takes up too much memory. I think this is because it is different than Windows Default (it uses different buttons, it is purple, etc) but I could be wrong. Is the Windows Live/Yahoo! inter-operability level still improving?I'm not familiar with Trillian, or GAIM, or anything multi-protocol, I prefer my Windows Live Messenger on Windows and aMSN on Ubuntu.
