  1. Negative credits seems like a good idea to me... They need to ecnourage you somehow, to write regular, and quality posts... And besides, negative credits also count how inactive you are, and when you reach a certain ammount of negative credits (-30 I think), you account is deleted... This is a free host, and resources are limited... They can't just give away space, and get nothing in return... The least we can do is provide quality content, and post regularly here... So, for me, negative credits are a good idea... I would have done it the same way...
  2. Me being in politics and all, reading much of the reports on the attrocities in recent war that occured in the Balkans, I can tell you one thing... Genocide will be very, very hard to stop... Here's why:People wilh low life standards, no employment, etc., are very succeptible to propaganda... I look at it every day, here in Serbia... Because of or low standards, poor living conditions, it's easy to manipulate the crowd... Especially if they are dissapointed in the government... If you mention their national identity, point out how much better your nation is than others, and you've hit the jackpot... That's how many of the polititians here work... No actual program, just nationalistic babble...Hitler rose to power because people were unsatisfied with their lives in Germany in that time... Worked all day, had barely enough to survive... They needed someone to blame... Of course noone is going to blame themself.... So, Jewish people were made guilty by those that aren't satisfied with their life... Same is here now... For example, A good portion of Serbs see the following: US is our main enemy, and so is the EU, Croats are our ancient enemy, Hungarians want to come in and take back Vojvodina Albanians want to take Kosovo... Same is in Croatia, only ther are a biy subtle... The worse part is, our government is puting out such propaganda, and raising those kinds of problems... And since people here have to work hard, and have barely enough to make a decent living, they are naturally unsatisfied... They need someone to blame... So, the politicians find those who will be guilty... United States, European Union, and everyone else... It suits them that way... They don't want people focusing on the real problems, such as wellfare, social policy, healthcare, jobs, etc., but on these idiotic "problems"... And if you repeat a lie long enough, it becomes the truth...I've been lucky to have been born in the old Yugoslavia... I was educated with old values, and my parents (fortunately for me), are not stupid people... I was thought that no matter what nation you belong to, you are a human being, and thus, an equal to me... That was the main value of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ)... In those great days, we all lived in peace and with no hatred... Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Monntenegro, Bosnia and Hercegovina... We were all in one country... Our late president Josip Broz Tito, while alive, held us all together... Whoever propagated strong nationalism, was delt with in the quickest manner, and imprisoned... When he died, there was no one who could succeede him... Strong heavy nationalists rose to power, slowly, and finally broke us apart... And they still roam free, and their only concern is to stay in power...Changing the curriculum will not yield the desired results, as there will always be someone who will object to the curriculum... But, if attempted, it should first be made available to those with lower socioeconomic status, and alike, as they are more succeptible to manipulation... Politicians need to be penalised for spreading strong nationalism, as it goves birth to hate... But, sadly, I'm not optimistic... We're fighting a battle against windmills, like Don Quixote... People need to evolve some more, and change their priorities... Nationality must never come before life... No matter whose it is...Topics should include not only education about holocaust, but all the attrocities commited in the wars... There should also be an active reconciliation between nations in war... Accepting the responsibility for crimes commited in our names, and accepting crimes inflicted on us... Never forget, but always forgive...As for the false images of perfection, well... I doubt we will see that come to a stop any time soon, it simply makes too much money... But that doesn't add too much to the spread of nationalism... It's role is minor, among all others...Eliminating hate between nations, races, etc., is a very complicated subject, and I fear it will take a looong time to get rid of it...
  3. Well, BASIC was born in 1963., and belongs to a group of high-level programming languages (whereas assembler would be low-level)... BASIC stands for Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code...There are 3 generations of BASIC languages:1st Generation: Mainly used by mathematicians and scientists, since home comuters weren't that wide spread... For example, Commodore computers used BASIC V2 as it's operating system, or something similar to OS... You could enter program directly, without an editing program, directly into RAM... Every line of code, had to be preceded by a line number2nd Generation: QuickBASIC (QB, or QBasic) or PowerBASIC... This new generation offered improvements of the language, mostly in the areas of structured and procedural programming... Line numbers were optional in this generation, and literal labels introduced, to achieve program branching...3rd Generation: This is where Visual Basic and Visual Basic.NET show up... This generations main improvement is object-oriented (OO) programmin, and event driven programming... There was one version ov Visual Basci for Dos, and all later versions were made for Windows... Visual Basic.NET is the last version of BASIC, in Micro$oft's production...You can look-up much more info about BASIC languages on Wikipedia...What kind of help do you need?
  4. Let me jump right in, and wish our Lord and Master OpaQue a happy birthday :DIt's still 30th November here (and will be for 7 more hours,) but I better do it in advance, or else I'll forget to do it later....Anyways, OpaQue, happy b-day, and thank you for everything you've been doing for us, and everything yoiu will do in future... Spend it surrounded with your friends and family, and take a day off, and rest from our whining and complaining :)Cheers, and let us celebrate many more of your birthdays!
  5. I'm in the process of downloading Android SDK, and I'm going to participate in a Google contest for best applications for their Android... Haven't seen it yet, but I figure it will be programmed using Java, as it requires JDK 5 or JDK 6, from Sun...I on the other hand, just love Google, all their inovative services... I have a cousin "serving" internship in Google, in Norway... The stories I heard... Amazing... That's where I want to work... I loved Google before he went to work there, I love it now, and I'll probably love it in the future...Oh, and I just want to digress on the note that Apple will hold the copyright on touch and drag, and touch and scroll.. I seriousely doubt they can get copyright on that, since it's been there before iPhone... Starting with touchscreens for PC's, and so on... Motorola phones have had touch and scroll option on their touchscreen models... Maybe they'll have exclusive right to this tech inside US, but the whole world? No way... What other way is there to drag something on a touchscreen? Or to scroll something on a touch screen?
  6. If, from what I gather (correct me if I'm wrong), the president has the final say in everything, what do you need any form of government? He or she will make decisions based on advice (s)he receives from the advisors... Without some form of parliamentary organisation that would have the power to make decisions, that's just totalitarism... Ellections lose any meaning... You go, vote, and then your representative just sits there, and looks nice... And gets a big fat paycheck...Capitalism, by it's construction (and if we look at it as a main direction of a certain government), doesn't focus much on wellfare and social aspects of the community... Corporations and rich folk can pass any law, as they see fit... Money does wonders...In my oppinion, capitalism is a less evolved step, in some aspects, than say social-democracy... In capitalism, every person looks only after them self, and does nothing to improve or upgrade the big picture, which in this case would be the community...Government needs to have some say in the economy, in a way to protect the little man, not the big man... Free market is of course the thing to do, but with some governmental corrections...In my oppinion, a government should focus most on education, social equiality, healthcare, and wellfare... All that is paid out of income tax... If you have educated, and satisfied people, your country would be much better, more prosperous, and a true leader... If you disregard wellfare, you have a bunch of unsattisfied people, and you have a problem, right there, in your home...Abortions... If you MAKE someone do something, and they did nothing to justify sanctions, you are jeopardizing their basic human rights... And that's a bad thing to do as a government... Under what excuse would you force a mother, who for example, can't take care of her baby? She doesn't have enough financial resources, she must work, etc... What gives you the right, as the government, to decide for her? It is her own free will to have an abortion, and live with it until she is alive, is it not? And, when you say war, with whom do you want to go to war with? With anyone that doesn't think like you do? With anyone that opposes your view of the things? Sorry my dear, but that bordesr dangerousely with fascism... I am active in politics, so I do know what I'm talking about... I understand that you base your new government of the US model... But what makes you so certain that your country, with that government, would be the police force of the world, that you will have the capacity, and the strength, to go to war with other countries? What if there was someone stronger, who would police you? What then? And what about international diplomacy? What's your stand on that? Need I remind that the US government has disregarded UN security Counsel decsions several times... You're not looking at the good model... try looking at the Scandinavian countries, like Sweden, Norway, etc... They are not capitalist, and they have the best social and wellfare programs in the world.. And the highest life standard... Why wouldn't I give 10% of my income every month, so that someone can benefit from it... Isn't that what it's all about... Being a good person, and help others?
  7. So... Here's my rant...A month or two back, I created a screen name for AIM... I actualy have no idea why I did that, since I don't use AIM, don't have any friends using AIM, and so forth... I registered without problems... Then, I started receiving those annoying commercial emails from them, offering their services, their affiliate services, and so on... And on the bottom of the mail, there is opt-out link... I click it, and I get "Wooops" page... "Woooops, we didn't manage to unsubscribe you from out service" or something like that... I clicked like 1000 times, from different networks, and nothing... I'm not using AOL in any way... So, I decide to change my email in their records, to the one I rarely use... Guess what? I can't! They send you an email, to which you have to reply with an OK in the subject field... And so, I'm stuck with that bloody AOL and their spam... There is no mention of opt-out in any of their FAQ's. Helps, and other documents... I'm slowly becoming very pissed, and if I don't get it sorted soon... I dunno what I'll do... I'm not from US, don't use any AOL service... Don't hve the time, the nerves, nor the money for lawsuits... I guess I'll just post about their crappy service everywhere I can... I will dedicate a site that will expose their scam... Damn I hate those big corporations...
  8. Yeah, I agree with Alex on this one... Even though I don't live in US, I do have a fair share of experience with unprofessional companies...It seems to me, that a local office in Warsaw, is trying to scam people, just because it's a small community... That's why they don't want you to have a number to their corporate office... Because local office manager or whoever, would be exposed... I too agree, go public with this... Hit them as hard as you can... If there are more people like you, perhaps a joint lawsuit agains them... People need to know about this, so they would stop going to them, and so they lose any new, and/or existing customers...
  9. And, as always Alex has some great question for us :DFrom what I mannaged to dig up from the Web, it appears that long lasting memories we have, change our brain also in a physical way... So, your theory that people coul'd have a reset time after some period of time, is totaly plausible to me...And if we suppose this does happen, a person does "reset"... Well... What truefusion said about those 3 point, they all stand... It would be hard to be all alone when that reset time comes, and nobady to notice it... But, I guess the biggest problem would be with some written trace we leave behind us, be it a journal, some notes, or just thoughts... Heck, even posts on a forum can count... And then you read something you "allegedly" wrote, but you have no idea about that... That would be a mess... I believe people would start going out of their mind...Of course, there is a possibility that we all have the same reset time... We conviniently reset at the same hour, say, midnight, when we're all asleep... That would be freaky... Who would know what's happening? People would go insane reading what they wrote, looking at their own work, their own masterpieces of art, paintings, music, computer scientists at their programs...We do not know if there is some sort of redundancy in the brain... Is only one brain synapse storing individual memories, or is there some sort of a backup? We only use, what, 1% of the brain, 2%? What about the rest og it? Is it just a huge storage for our memories? If it is, and memories are indeed redunant, how to restore that backup of yours? Many, many questions, and so little answers...P.S.It sounds to me as a global conspiracy theory again
  10. Since I have this stupid problem with inability to access my site from work, and Gamma server entirely, and when I saw my account was suspended but I had more than enough credits, I started worrying that maybe I was being suspended for violating TOS... The only problem with that, I do my best not to violate it... No illegal content, no porn, nothing... Just a plain personal site, with a couple of subdomains for my test projects...Then I was relieved, when I saw this wasn't happening only to me, and then I figured it must be something with the system... But truth be told, I never expected this issue to be resolved this fast... I mean, many companies offering paid hosting won't react this quickly...I'm a happy member for 3 years, and I'll continue to be as long as there is Xisto... I'll soon move my site to Xisto - Web Hosting, and I know I will be a sattisfied customer for a looooong time :)Way to go OpaQue, way to show those big hosting companies who's the boss
  11. And for how long will he attract visitors? When people realise his site offers nothing but crap, when his site pops up in a search, they will not click on it again... And why on Earth would anyone click on an ad, on a page that offers no real content?I seriousely doubt he makes any real profit, I bet he's just a kid, who earns 5 to 10 dollars, and thinks it's a great practice... What he actualy does, is degrade the quality of the internet... Hopefully search engine robots will become much smarter in the near future, and that sites like the one this guy makes, will never be show in searches...And anwiii why are you so passionately defending him? Can't he speak for himself? Or are the two of you connected in some way?
  12. I did quite a few browsing actions with 2.0.0.9, and never notices any broken css, or missplaced texts on any of the pages... not that I visit yahoo too much But I checked it, and it appears fine...And my FF just updated itself, and now I'm a proud user of 2.0.0.10... I tried browsing through yahoo again, and other sites, and everything still appears fine, no missplaced texts or elements...Perhaps you are using some add-in that causes css or html on a page to appear broken?
  13. We get it, we get it... He's trying to make quick buck out of luring people on his page, that has absolutely nothing to do with what they searched... That's very bad practice... I get it he doesn't care about the content, he cares about making keywords that will list his site in the top searches... May work for a while... But Google didn't make this much money, by being stupid... They'll see through this little scheme, and will block your AdSense account, probablt black-list your site... And what did you accomplish? Nothing...I personaly hate when I stumble upon such site, that fakes the content I'm searching for... it really pisses me off... Hopefully that StupidFilter those guys are making, will become functional soon, and will include a filter for such sites...
  14. I believe Xisto servers allow mail() function, I'm not sure, as I didn't have the need to use it...And since you do need to install additional libraries for PHP, and recompile, you won't be able to do that, until you run your own server, because most hosts run only the default PHP binaries, with maybe few additional functionalities included...mail() function is more than enough to send an email automaticaly, from your script... Move your hosting to Xisto, and you'll be able to use mail() function...
  15. I read on Slashdot, that one of the bugs SP3 is supposed to fix, has been in Windows since Windows 2000... It's in the pseudo-random number generator... It took a while for Microsoft to admit this bug, but they attempted to wash their hands clean, by saying that a user should obtain administrative priviledges, in order to use thsi exploit... The researchers who found this, say that many common exploits do provide admin access...Also, some of the researchers managed to get a hold of SP3 RC... They tested it, and claim that SP3 runs Office 10% faster than SP2, and that SP3 is considerably faster than Vista SP1... Microsoft is having big problems convincing their business costumers to migrate to Vista... And with right... I mean, who needs graphicaly pleasing system, that doesn't provide functionality, and requires of you to upgrade all the computers in your company? It's ridiculous...
  16. Well, sounds nice in theory, but I think that would be impossible to make... And here's why...Say you make something that will "fall", or better yet, move in Earths' magnetic field... Perhaps I'm wrong, I'm not particularly versed in this subject, but I believe that magnetic field would also produce some sort of a friction effect on the object in question.. Why? Well, if you want to create energy, you need an object that will interact with some soert of magnetic field... For example, some sort of a metal object, in order to "capture" the energy of a magnetic field... As a result of that interaction between the object and the magnetic field, some sort of a "braking" effect would occur... I suppose... Strength of the magnetic field also is of importance... And I don't know how far out goes Earths' atmosphere, and how far Earths' magnetic field streches... I guess it's a nice theory... But I bet there are much smarter people than me that can point out other flaws in this idea... I was never good in physics...
  17. I'd say go for Linux... You can use WINE for those applications, though, I wonder why would you use Encarta, when you have a bunch of online encyclopedias, that are constantly updated...My friend ran several Windows programs on WINE, and he actualy noticed some of the programs ran faster in WINE, than on Windows :)So, my advice is, go for Linux...Much safer, much more secure, and at least, you don't have to worry about ad-ware and other crap that Windows contracts...
  18. Well, since VBA is essentially Visual Basic, I believe it would be appropriate for you to post questions or tips regarding Visual Basic For Applications... Will you be moving to .NET, or the good ol' Visual Basic 6?
  19. What you are trying to make is not some simple program, and since you are just begining to learn VB, I don't think you have the neccessary skill... But, you may want to read something about Winsock, and networking, concerning VB, and that may help you, though I don't know what exactly is that bot going to do... You also need to have documentation concerning protocol in use by battle.net servers and stuff like that...
  20. I haven't been below 0 credits, yet, my account is suspended? What's going on? I've got a little over 2.5 credits now, and had maybe 0.3 today, before I posted a problem post in this sub-forum... And it clear;y states I have 2.69 credits...
  21. I have a problem... My site works ok, and there is no problem with that, BUT... I am unable to access my site, my cPanel, and even gamma.xisto.com, from my workplace... I have conntacted my ISP's tech support, and they checked everything, and all is fine... But I still can't access gamma server... We have a static IP address, so perhaps our IP was banned ? Who can I contact to see what's going on? This is becoming frustrating, because I want to put up some files and db, to use from home and from work...All help is greatly appreciated...Oh, and another note... I was checking my cPanel the other day... My bandwidth usage hasn't been updated since August 2007... And webstats don't automaticly update, I have to manualy update them... Just thought to mention it, it's not such a big deal...
  22. Braver or more stupid And I'm not in the forest anymore Alex, I'm in a secure facility, belonging to people that think like us, and try to crack this conspiracy... There is one proxy server in the forrest, to avoid detection of the facility I'm currently at... And I'm pretty sure we're close to finding a cure for this virus... I will need some help though, climbing over that wall...
  23. I agree with remalia, most religions don't take kindly to much questioning...I also don't consider myself much of a believer, I believe in something, but I'm not sure what... My brain functions in a practical way, I need to know exactly how something works, and how to recreate it... It's not enough for someone to tell me "hey, it works like that, and stop asking questions"... Now, I need to see for myself that it in fact is like that...I can justify religions coming to life 2000 years ago, and longer, because people living in that time were less developed, and had to have some way of explaining a shooting star, or an eclipse... Few men that stood out intellectualy, saw this as an opportunity, and that's how some religions were created... As a way to controll the masses... In that day, it was enough to say "steal, and God shall strike you down", and people would mostly believe it, because priests were supposed to be closer to God, or whatever Deity... I suppose people back then were much more naive...if someon would tell me now, "steal, and God shall strike you down", I'd tell him his insane, and to prove me, how infact will God strike me down...I like to ask questions, and that will always remain that way... That's why I suppose, I'll never be able to belong to any religion, I just don't blindly follow every word someone tells...And I agree, that people should focus les on that religious part, when connecting to other people... I know here, in Serbia, there are many of those who believe Orthodox Christianity is the right religion... Ok, maybe it is, maybe it isn't... But when I say I'm not religious, most of them will distance themselves from me, like I'm contageous or something, and say I'm not a true Serb... Well what the hell does that mean? What, all Serbs have to be Orthodox by default? And sadly, many deaths have occured in the Balkans in the '90s, solely on the base of religion: Orthodox, Catholic and Muslims were fighting each other... Sad, really, that people can go as low as that... And I agree, there is some spark to set all that on fire, but I'm not sure what it is... People living 20 years together, Orthodox and Muslim, suddenly turn on each other, mixed families broken apart... I suppose humans have to evolve much more, in orther to avoid extinction...
  24. I'd have to say I'm for it, but only in medical purposes... As mostly everyone agrees... But, I wouldn't go all the way to cloning a human being entirely... Why clone an entire human being, if you only need a heart, or a kidney? No, instead, you clone, and grow only that "part" that you need... It's much more efficient, and, well, let's face it, much cheaper, then growing a whole human being... And sadly, people first look to see the cost of something... for whether it's natural or not... I don't know... It's a philosophical debate, and no matter how much I like to debate, I'll leave this one to the philosophers... No one actualy knows how far exactly have they gone with cloning, but it's far away from being perfect, and being fully usable for humans... Or animals for that matter... I'm not closely following that cloning subject, so I don't know of any breakthroughs... But, it would be nice if I could get a new set of healthy lungs, instead of these asthma ones mayne new set of eyes, so I don't need to wear glasses (even though they make me look cool )
  25. Ah, the good old Star Trek transporter dilema... "If I'm transported with a transporter beam, is it still me?"That's a hell of a good question... And here's my 2 cents about it...In order for it to work, we need to have several processes:1. Scan the life form that needs to be transported2. Break down the life form, down to the tiniest atoms3. Store the information of atomic and molecular bonds in some sort of a buffer4. Send the contents of the buffer to another transporter device5. Destination device stores incoming data in another buffer6. Recreate atomic and molecular bonds from a buffer7. Materialize a life formSeems pretty simple, but in fact, the hardest part would be storing all that information, and keeping it enough to be sent... Let's face it, atoms are small, and there are I guess googol of atoms inside a human body, and I suppose googolplex bonds between the atoms... And I'm no medical expert, but I'm sure there's something else that needs to be done. And, let's say we do somehow manage to get around all those technical obstacles, it leaves us with the question: "Is it really me?"Person materialised with the destination device would be assembled from completely new set of atoms, because, let's face it, sending atoms across some distance would be tricky, so it'd have to be new ones, probably from some storage tank of a sort. So, technically, it wouldn't be you that's materialised, only a copy of you... And then, another question pops-up: "Who prevents operators of the devices, to create multiple copies of me?" Now that would be a tricky one, running into yourself in a trasnporter room...This certainly is a subject that has many, many questions, and yet, very little answers, or at least, little practical, it's still all pretty theoretical... And I'm more of a practical person ;)But, if they do invent the transporter in my lifetime, I'll sure as hell use it, because I'm too lazy to go somewhere with my own feet
