  1. I have now tried it out for a while.. I loved the new features. One thing it has a whole sidebar... It shows updated news, stock quotes, etc... Another feature is that it shows search results as u type in the search text.. so no need to press enter or wait.. u can refine the search as u type so that u weed out unwanted files by type or folder or whatever... It allows u to check gmail(not tried this feature coz.. I do not like my emails and some personal files to be indexed... There are lots of plugins available too.. like the system monitor, a todo list maker... diskviewer.. and many more... you will find the plugins at: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Cheers.
  2. hi,I find this feature useful.Since if u have many mail ids, or may be some account with POP3 features or redirecting all the mails so that u can check them on gmail. Now what happens if u want to reply to a certain mail that was actually sent to another account but u read it in Gmail as it had be redirected....You would need to go to that id, login and compose the mail, Now u can do it all here and the person at the other end would never know whether everything happened in the gmail in between...Hope u now understand the use of the feature...So no more multiple logins if u can read other mail from gmail u can answer/reply back too.... ;)Cheers.
  3. yeah, it is not difficult.. I know. Actually one can install an smtp server and configure it. Then it can be used to send a mail aliasing any id as a from id. that is the reason most corporates block direct smtp access.such softwares are easily available over the net and are used for phishing..But though they can be used to send mails, if the user goes thru the headers he can determine whether the domain that the mail claims to be from is the same as the one in the email address. The whois of APNIC/ARIC can be used to find out the owner of the originating IP address..Cheers.
  4. Hi,Gmail has come up another neat feature. You can now aggregate ur mail accounts to send mail.I know I am not clear, let me explain. If u have multiple e-mail accounts and in most cases u wud have..., u can send mails from u gmail account so that it appears that the mail originated from one of ur other email account. In short, u can choose the 'From' field value and let it be one of ur many email ids. For this u need to login to gmail, go to setting and in the account tab add an e-mail address. It will send a verification mail to the email-di u mentioned. Click the verification link and u can send e-mail using that id from gmail itself. You can also set a different reply-to address for each of the email address.I see one or the other new feature coming up on Google almost everyday...Hats off to them for be so pressing in enriching the users experience..Cheers.
  5. Google has released the new version of its Google Desktop Search. It now not only keeps track of the files and email on your system but does a host of other things: 1. News 2. Web Clips 3. Scratch Pad 4. Weather 5. Photos 6. Stocks 7. Email 8. Quick View It would keep track of ur browsing habits and can collate the headlines from the sites that you frequent and display in the News tab. All this without you putting in any configuration effort. You need not know anything about the RSS feeds or ATOM feeds, it configures all the required feeds by itself. The scratchpad is another useful tool. The weather, photos, stocks are added features... Would always expect google to stay ahead of the competition... waiting for google to integrate all the services... head google talk is also out... there u go Google... For screenshots of the new desktop: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Download it at: http://desktop.google.com/ Cheers.
  6. Thats a gr8 idea.. It now complements and completes Google's Email offering. I have not checked it out yet but it would be good just like Google's other ideas....One more to Google.Cheers.
  7. hi,I did not exactly understand what u mean by executing sql query for phpbb mods. From what I understand is u have a script which needs to be executed for the phpbb mod to work.To do this login to cpanel and go to phpMyadmin. Select the database on which u want to execute the query.Select the SQL tab. Type in or upload the file with the sql statements and click go.All the sql statements in the file will execute one after the other. For executing the query thru phpgo to the cpanel and select mysql databases. For the database that u require, there will be connection string available for perl, php and jdbc. U can use the php connection string for getting a connection in php and executing the sql query.Cheers.

    Forum Software

Here are the ones I have used: phpBB I have used this board earlier and it is one of the most popular ones. It is free, easy to configure and highly customizable. Invision Power Board Used this when it was in 1.3 and also at invisionfree.com But since then I have tried a few others which are free and found them better than buying IPB (it is not free any more) Simple Machines Forum This is the one I am currently using. It integrates well with Mambo CMS and since my site was in Mambo this became a good option. Heard that phpBB also integrates through a bridge but after configuring this it was good enough so did not give phpbb+mambo a try. Though it took a little time to integrate with mambo the first time but it was worth the effort. Cheers.
  9. I visited the website. It is really really small.. but it strain my eyes quite a bit. what is the exact size supposed to be or what resolution are u all using for viewing. I suppose my screen resolution is too high... Cheers.
  10. I feel it wud waste a lot of ur time... coz getting 1000 points wud take a lot of time.. also the domains these days are not that costly to justify the worth of the amount of time that you put in...nyways.. there would always be people on both sides of the view..Cheers.
  11. Agree with kasm...The ones wanting to restrict nuclear know how from other countries are nothing but pure hypocrites. They have proved that they are irresponsible enough to have used it not once but twice... how would they ever justify that...Now that many others have got the know how, they fear that threat may be unto them as they have alienated themselves to many countries including two very recently.. Dont know how they say something and do the exact opposite.. They are the ones to start the Human Right stuff when any other country uses even lesser force for their security but they themselves are no good, so they do not have the right to do the policing all over the world.. They did not even care for the view of the UN... Moreover they are the ones who are also opposing the expansion of the security council in the UN since that would dilute their position and stance. US wants everyone to toe its line in all the matters. They just fail to understand that the world has moved on since the 1945 period and the cold war...They need to accept the new world order and put other countries on an equal footing if ever they want to accept the truth...Cheers.
  12. hi,I too suggest Mambo CMS. I have been using it for over 10 months now.. I found it easy to use and has quite a few features that u wud require. The community is also quite active in developing mods and components which expand the scope and provide features just like a plugin to the software...It integrates well with SMF forum and gallery from menalto... so all in all most of the features work well and the administration panel is also nice. But even after all the view, just try a few in the fantastico and get a feel. Decide which best suits ur needs and the one which has an interface to ur liking..Cheers.
  13. yeah, the Gmail invites are freely available but just that u need an invite would prevent a lot of people from creating unnecessary gmail accounts. This would save lot of ids from being used and discarded. Also the load on servers is another factor. Moreover most of the Google services are in Beta, I suppose they release it only when they feel their service is one of the best around. That does not mean I think Gmail is bad, actually it is one of the best around, but they have a list of features that they plan to incorporate in a phased manner. The number of languages that Gmail is offered in has also grown...Finally there is the excluvisity though not much, it sure is nice to have a gmail account...Cheers.
  14. yup,Follow these steps to backup:Go to phpMyAdmin, select the database u want to backup. Then select the "Export" tab. Select the tables that u want to backup in the Export combo box, use control to select multiple or select all if u want all the tables.Check "Drop Table" and "If not Exist" boxes in the structure section.*This means that it wud add a statement to drop an existing table if it exists when u use this backup for restoring data.*The "if not exist" clause would create the table if it does not exist or has been dropped.****chek the "Drop Table" box only if you do not mind losing data that might have been added since last backup****The "If not exists" is a harmless clause.Check the "Complete Inserts" box in the Data section.check the "Save as file" checkbox and click on "GO".The export sql file will be generated and you will be prompted to save it to ur disk.U r done with the backup. IF u want to restore from this file, just go to import, browse to this file and run it.. The whole set of sql statements in the file will execute and the data in the selected tables will be restored.Cheers.
  15. I just dont seem to understand how someone can do anything for so long... I mean something involuntary action (unlike breathing and heartbeat)...either u need a break or sleep or u wud get bored....but thats my idea... the news does prove otherwise...Anything out of control is disastrous...Cheers.
  16. hi,IPV6 is already in use. It is so designed so that both IPv4 and IPv6 can co exist till the time IPv4 addresses are discarded.basically it is the addressing sytem over the internet. Every device on the net has an IP address, even ur system when it connects to the net. That is how routing takes place from source to destination and back going through multiple intermediate nodes.IPv4 used 32 bits for addressing. whereas IPv6 uses 128 bits for addressing. This was needed because all the addresses possible by IPv4 would soon be exhausted.(it was not expected when it was designed).IPv6 has an address space which would be huge and would be possible to assign more than 1 address to every point(dont remember the term) on earth.Cheers.
  17. hi,you can also use windows netmeeting that comes bundled with windows for accessing your computer from a remote location. I have tried it over the the network connected through LAN or the same network.. I am not sure it would be possible through dial up.There is another freeware called VNC which can be used for this purpose. Cheers.
  18. hi negativezero, yeah, you can directly connect to a printer and print from a java program. For this purpose you need to use Java Printing API. The class that controls all is PrinterJob. Other classes like Book are to be used for rendering the page. There are a number of tutorials available on the web for the same. just google them. Two useful links are : 1. http://www.javaworld.com/ 2. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Just go throught the tutorial and try it out. Would not be very difficult once you get an idea of how the classes are used and what functionality is provided by the API. Cheers.
  19. MSN now has a new feature. It is similar to Google Maps. called virtual Earth. http://www.bing.com/maps/ The name seems similar to google earth service but actually it is a competitor to google maps. It is still in beta. I got this info from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Looks like Msft is starting to feel the heat of google and yahoo's services.. But none of these services have maps outside the USA. Do they feel that all the internet users are in USA or what??? They would find a greater audience once they start offering such services for other countries too.. I know they need to get the images and permissions... etc but when everyone wants it and competes for it.. the one getting it first is sure to have a lead... Cheers.
  20. hi Totalwarhere are a few of my answers:1) 4 m/s3) speed = 6 m/s4) speed = 7 m/s velocity is a vector and takes direction into account so it would be 5 m/s (I do not remeber whether velocity need to be in km/hr in which case it should be multiplied by 18/5)Actually these problems were my forte when I was in school. but has been a few years since and also I am feeling lazy now.. would solve and post a few more answers later..btw it was nice of u to put in effort for the questions... (though u did it for ur fiance.. :DCheers.
  21. hi friends, Many of you would be knowing Mumbai, it is the financial capital of India, earlier called Bombay. Last week (actually two days back) it received unprecedented rain on a single day. You can imagine the amount of rain by the fact that it was almost 96 cm(over 37 inches) in a single day. It would be heavy by any standards. The whole city and neighbouring areas were flooded and almost 200 people lost their lives as of now... Hope the water level recedes at the earliest and no more lives are lost. http://ia.rediff.com/news/2005/jul/28rain1.htm Cheers. Interestingly, it happened on 26th. The Tsunami occurred on 26th, the earthquake in Gujarat occured on January 26th... Lot of coincidence of nature's fury. Actually read an article which said a few other natural occurences in the last 3 years that have happened on 26th...
  22. hi,That sure is an interesting game. I just cheked it out. Would create a nation and log in tomorrow... btw have u joined the game. what is ur nation name??Hope to find some interesting issues to discuss over there.Cheers.
  23. hi guangdian,Seeing the number of posts you have, I suppose you have been quite active for about 10 months now. There have been the same question asked by members who have newly joined and have not gone thru many posts, but such a question from you??nyways, for the answer : you need to request it specifically by sending a PM to the admin. btw I have posted this response in a few threads now that it looks like I always come across posts with this question first. :DCheers.
  24. hi Opaque,Thats a cool system. Also since the reputation mod is not there now, it can also be used to appreciate some help. But since there is a 3% commission, it might be a deterrent to be used in that matter. But all and all, nice feature to have and hope it would be used well.Cheers.
  25. Thanks googlue. That was an useful module.I have been using mambo for a while now and am loving it. The mods and components are improving day by day.Cheers.
