  1. For your case, which require interactively updated display, i would recommend a java applet. If you play with online game, i bet you have come across java applet based one, where it will show a java logo while loading, and it appear just like a application by itself. If you prefer simpler solution, you can also use flash. Both of this method require you to write codes to check on the server directly for what to display and so on.I would always like to lend a hand in anything. But my hands all are tied up. Sometime can't even have time to get enough credit to keep my hosting alive
  2. It's not a bug. Maybe your copy or version of php doesn't have that file. Mine does. I'm using 5.2.0.0
  3. WAMP http://www.wampserver.com/en/, was easy to install and use also. I've been using for quite a few years, before I learn how to install each component individually. I need to do so due to the fact that sometime I need to use particular version of the component for my project, which these distros cannot provide.
  4. Well, this is always something a lot of ppl miss easily. Because the error "Unknown column" is quite misleading in this case. Anyway, it's good that you found out yourself.
  5. Sorry bout that. I'm not being rude but I only "mention", I didn't even talk about how to do it or where to get it. I believe by googling a few words, you can get even more info that what I previously posted. My intention is just to share my experience. Really sorry yordan.
  6. ASUS WL-700gE http://www.asus.com/PageError/ '> http://www.asus.com/PageError/ There're other brand, like Planex or even those cheaper one from china. Price around RM3++ or USD1++ The ASUS one can even host HTTP and FTP.
  7. I use router to automate a few of the task, like firewall, internet sharing and being able to host diff server on diff PC on the same IP (with diff port of cause). Also, to use DDNS automatically. With a router, I can also hold on to the same IP longer than before, because PC require more frequent reboot. The longest I did was almost a month. Well, with the newly introduce bittorrent router, which you can download torrent with, it can also help to save power, cause you don't need to keep you PC on all the time. This bittorrent router comes with built in torrent software, an USB port to plug in an external hard drive to keep your downloads, and an web interface to manage the download list, cool ye
  8. I started off my HTML programming with CuteHTML. Simple, fast and straight forward. Never liked Dreamweaver, it's a bloat. After I've learn all the syntax and making use of Google, I switch to Eclipse. Have been using it ever since. I do use Notepad++ from time to time. Had a portable version, so I can fix stuffs on site with it.
  9. Why "[solved]" ??? I'm assuming you're logged into a local machine. If you've logged into a domain machine, then you'll need to get the "human" administrator to help you with that. You need to login as Administrator and configure your right/permission or user type of your account. DISCLAIMER : This is suppose to help you in case you forgot your password or lock yourself out. It's not meant to be use for unlawful act. Do at your down RISK !!! Windows XP installation should come with an Administrator account by default, and normally no password is set. A default user is later create to prevent from using the admin account all the time. With the Welcome Screen, you don't get to login as admin. So you need to switch to safe mode. When booting your PC, press F5, until you see a list of file shown on the screen. When you reach the login screen, try login with "Administrator" without any password. If the above don't help, that means your admin is set with a password. You need to download a tool to do it. chntpw - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Download the bootable cd image, then burn into a blank cd. Follow the instruction given on the page. Remember, it's recommended to set the password to blank, you can always change it once you can login. I've used this many time to help myself and to help my client as well. Good Luck
  10. Cool.I've played C&C and RedAlert. Haven't got the time to play any of the later sequel. Hopefully will find some time to play Red Alert 2 and 3 later.I'm a C&C fan actually. I still prefer the old Command & Conquer, DOS version. Plain hardcore story. Nowadays it's all about visual effect. I don't expect most new game can run on notebooks, which is sad. Also, can wait for StarCraft2 to be released
  11. I'm using Fedora 5 for my servers and for my client's server as well. For portability, I use SLAX (live version of Slackware) on my thumbdrive. I would recommend SLAX for it's easy of adding new software, by just copying a single file per software into the module folder. It will be loaded automatically and shown on the menu. Don't even need to know how to unpack or install it. Save me all the hassle. For thumbdrive, i recommend Corsair Voyager. I'm using the 4GB version. Damn fast. It's good to have a reading speed of 24MB/s compare to ordinary thumbdrive of less than 10MB/s. I booted SLAX in one and a half minutes using Voyager, compare to Kingston's 4 minutes boot time, which I use previously, that's a lot of improvement.I also keep a copy of BackTrack2 and Knoppix Live CD, in case I can't boot off USB, and when I need to crack some Wifi password, hehe
  12. I think you should give a clearer picture of what's your situation and the error message you're getting. I'm guessing that the script you're referring to is a game engine or sort of alike. And now you're facing the problem of connecting to your SQL database? But the previous problem with your hosting wasn't clear at all, are they also related to the SQL problem? What kind of error was that? Maybe with more information we can help you narrow down your problem. We don't actually need your login to see your code. We actually prefer for you too look into it yourself, while we provide you some guidance, that way you can learn better, and be able to tackle any future problem. I'm sure they'll be more problem coming along if you're doing programming.Anyway, for troubleshooting, you should try to eliminate the problem one by one. For example, now that you cannot connect. Maybe you can create a simple page, with just a few line of code to connect to you SQL database, and see if it works. This will confirm that your username, password and database is correctly configured. If not, you can also try diff method of connecting, to eliminate problem from a particular SQL library. So the list goes one, until you are left with 1 or more item that's contributing to the problem. Then you can start to think of a solution, including "shooting" at your hosting.Good Luck
  13. I've just subscribed to rapidshare for 1 month. I think it's well worth it. I'm downloading at full speed of what's I use to download from eMule and torrent. You might say that this way, it didn't promote file sharing or community sharing per se. But with rapidshare, I could do the same, by putting up a blog, posting those links to the files which I'm willing to share, and have uploaded to rapidshare. From there, each download will earn me point, which towards the end, might be able to sustain the account. Of cause you get better speed and service when you pay for one.
  14. Well, I speak english, mandarin(chinese) and malay fluently. Since I'm a chinese, and like most chinese, we speak own own dialect as well as other chinese dialects . If dialect can be considered a language, it would plenty. Hokkien, cantonese, hakka, teochew are considered fluent for me. That would be counted as 7 i guess. Not sure if other races are considering their dialect as language?
  15. If the generation of energy involved inputing of certain matters/wave/particle, then it's not free energy. The solar panel to produce electricity from cosmic rays, it's similar to the normal solar panel, which relies on solar energy. Cosmic rays is also a kind of energy by itself. If that can be considered free energy, then free energy is everywhere. Solar, hydro power, nuclear and so on so forth.
  16. Maybe you can try using macro program if the button you needed to click always appear on fix location. Just google for "mouse macro", there should be plenty of program you can choose from. Some even allows you to assign shortcut key to it, so you can simply press a set of keys and your mouse will work it's way automatically. Some even allows you to set condition to automatically initiate the macro. These will require a bit of programming knowledge to set it to detect like say, windows title. When you visit a site, your windows title will change to the title of the page you're viewing, assuming you're using firefox or IE. Should be the same for other browser too. Currently my firefox is showing "Free Web Hosting -> Replying in Auto-click Script - Mozilla Firefox". So by detecting partial text of the title, you can easier activate the macro automatically.Hope that's what you're looking forGood Luck
  17. It's OK. In fact I would be happy if you can figure it out yourself. That shows your enthusiasm on what you wanted to do.
  18. If you had inserted some record before, and deleted them, the auto increment number will still remain from the last one that you inserted, e.g. 210 in this case, so the next data you insert will start from 211. For this you need to reset the auto_increment counter. Assuming you're using MySQL ALTER TABLE your_table AUTO_INCREMENT = 0 Then your next inserted data will start with 0, then 1, 2, 3 ..... Hope that's what you're looking for Good Luck PS: For your information, the auto_increment is made to remain as last even though you've deleted your record, for the purpose of data integrity. It was done so that even you've deleted your old record, anything that refers to that ID won't accidentally belongs to another row of data. For example, you have your first row with ID=1, and another table that refer to this ID. That 2nd table referring to ID 1, and contain a bad comment for it. Later you deleted that row from the first table, and reset the auto_increment to 1, and insert another data. This time the new row, also has an ID=1, but the bad comment is automatically referred to it although it wasn't your intention to do so. You might not see the problem, maybe for now, but when you database grow bigger and bigger, it will get worse, and very hard to debug.
  19. Ah, ok. If you can't read, then you can never export. I thought your initial problem was you can't change the data and it's structure. Anyway, good to hear that you can work on it now. Try to export it and use a newer version if possible. Access 97 seems to be quite old, and might be problematic or at least having limitation to cop up with the current trend. Unless you're using vb6, I don't see any reason to stick with it. Good Luck
  20. That's bad. For non java users, i think it's bad. Maybe a good thing for java users
  21. Hmm, where did you get this database in the first place. Can you view the data inside the original database?
  22. Most hosting or domain name server should have supported wild card for domain name by now. Mine is automatically enabled. I do notice that sometime it doesn't work. But it works well on Xisto the last time i tested. Even then I still notice some hosting still doesn't support it, still insisting on having to prefix with www. Anyway, try look under subdomain or sometime like that under your cpanel or similar hosting management system. Look for the term wildcard. If not, you can try send an email to your hosting's admin to request him to do it for you. Good Luck
  23. Did you heard that sound before this or it just happen lately? From what you mentioned, it seems like chances are your hard disk is dying. Anyway, you should also check the fan and screw like others have mentioned above, just to be sure
  24. Is it some clicking sound, consistent one. Like once every 2 second? If you're using WinXP, goto Control Panel\Aministrative Tools\Event Viewer. Look for "Source" with the word "disk", and Type = Warning. Double click, then you should see under the description something like "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\C during a paging operation."If that's the case your hard disk has one or more bad sectors. The clicking sound is from the hard disk head reseting to home position because it fail to read the data at that particular sectors. So, you better backup all your important data, then if the hard disk or computer still under warranty, send it. If not, get a new hard disk and replace it. You can use checkdisk or scandisk to fix the bad sector, but before you do so, you should backup first. Usually after fixing, it got worse. And fixing it doesn't mean it won't come again, it just mark that portion as bad, so it won't look at that location again, but it tends to propagate. Best solution is to change it.
  25. Well the thing is, the user of microwave oven don't always read the manual, OR worse, don't has access to the manual.During a break of the part time class I took few years back, we would put a glass of water to heat it up in the microwave oven, then make a tea or milo. The lecturer thought us that, and no one ever mentioned about the danger of it. Luckily no incident has happen yet, since most of us only heated it for 1 min, just enough for a hot drink, but not long enough to reach 100C. I do read that those microwave oven with rotating carrousel might have avoided susch problem, as the virbration will have started the boiling process, thus preventing superheating from happening. Can anyone try it and let us know the result? But be careful
