Hi This Is My Site tell me what do you think about
seec77 replied to iGuest's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, nothing happened whatsoever. Besides, I really can't stand metalcore... :(P.S.Using Firefox 1.5.0.4.Get Xisto hosting!! -
I'm glad. I thought my post might be a bit overreactive and slightly hurting, but I'm glad you took it OK. I don't have a problem with short forms and whatever, and sometimes all lower-case applications even look better to me (even though they are definately not grammatically correct), but I'm talking about how they make your site visually less appealing. I don't know. Something about the general look of the text. Maybe it's just me?
-
Wow, your WordPress theme is really cool! I really think you should write a bit more corrent English (normal capitalization, sentencing, punctuating and grammar) so as to make the site more visually appealing. Right now the "messy" language really degrades the aesthetic value of your site, and that is a bummer because the theme is definately awesome!

In hebrew I don't even get one hit (quite weird, seeing as though my name is Hebrew), and in English I get like 7 pages, and all of them are of me. Great!
-
Thank you all so much! So it is something to do with binumeral distribution or whatever. I really gotta get me a book on these things. Does anyone have any recommendations of any free e-books/websites about these things where I can learn from scratch? And BTW, is this thing really related to game theory, or did I just think it is because it is taken from a game (MapleStory)? Thanks again for the explanations!

Ask.Com Is Better Than Google In My Opinion
seec77 replied to PublicThinker's topic in Search Engines
I used to really like Ask back when it was AskJeeves. But I mean, really, why the competition? I know it's a capitalistic world and blah blah, but what if we had all the search engines in one, mean, lean, and open-sourced interface? Have all the SEs of the world working together to correctly index every page in the world? Damn, this really sounds like an euphoric dream, but it's just like the whole situation with all the HTML standards and stuff - Microsoft is ****ing up so much just by making up their own standards because they're too incompetent to implement W3's recommendations. :\ -
I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for mathematical questions, but math is a scientific field. Anyways, I have a question which I had with my friends over, and we can't seem to find the real answer ourselves, so I decided to ask you guys here, seeing as how the average IQ of this forum surpasses most typical people. Anyways, it goes like this (and yes, this is taken from the Ludibrium Party Quest from Maple Story): Imagine a group of 9 switches. There is a unknown combination of 5 switches that need to be turned on for you to finish the level (or whatever your goal is). That is, if, for example, the combination is 13579, I have to turn on all those 5 switches for the door to open. Me and my friend were trying to think of how many possibilities there are for the secret combination, but neither of us being any game theory (is it even game theory?) experts, he started counting the different combinations (obviously stupid, as I tried to tell him ), and I tried calculate the factorial of 9 for up to 5 factors (9 x 8 x 7 x 6 x 5) which gave me a really large number. Both of these methods are obviously wrong, as mine is wrong because I also took into consideration the different options for ordering (i.e., I counted 13579 and 97531 as seperate options, even though they should not be such). So, I'm not only asking how many combinations there are, I'm also asking how I'm supposed to calculate such a thing. I tried binumeral distribution but I guess I just don't understand it well enough to apply it to this problem, or maybe it even has nothing to do with this problem! Thank you very much, and again, sorry if this is not the best forum for my question!

Wow! I started playing this and I got really hooked to it! This is a lot of fun, and I'm so glad I found this game early on, so that when it gets popular I'll already be at the top of the list. Even though I usually suck at games, and will fall down the list quite quickly. Whatever! This game rocks!

The Moon Landing - Real Or Fake
seec77 replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Science and Technology
I don't see why it wouldn't be real. I mean, I just don't understand why everyone is always looking to disprove things! And you know what, even if it is fake, can't people just trust the goverment that they faked it for a good cause, and that maybe the general population doesn't know something very important that the goverment does know, and that maybe sometimes people are not as smart as they think?! This arrogance always annoys me, and that's just what it is. I'm not saying we should be corporate drones, we shouldn't take things for granted, but I'm just saying that sometimes we have to allow ourselves to admit that we might not know everything. Err, I understand myself... -
I agree with Ruben. You really shouldn't go about trying to build your own CMS with basic knowledge of PHP. Heck, even with extremely proficient PHP skills it's really annoying to create your own user system, or whatever, but I would suggest using Drupal. It has the user system (including all the privilege and access level features) and template system worked out for you along with a few other things, and if you need anything special that isn't included in it, you can just very easily develop an addon for it. Actually, most things you would ever need can probably be found in the Drupal's module section (along with a variety of excellent themes in the appropriate section). Oh, and if you don't want to use any of Drupal's built in features, you should just think again. Template engines are a good thing, a very good thing, even if it seems as if it's easier to code the HTML into the PHP page, and Drupal's nodes can be configured to perform whatever it is you want them to perform (and you can give them different names so instead of /node/xxx, you'll see /about/ or whatever address you choose). Anyways, it would really help if you told us what you're trying to do with that user system you're trying to build. And sorry for sounding like a Drupal zealot, but I am a Drupal fan, and quite a proud one!

You can see here the number of points you have gathered so far. If I remember correctly, Xisto doesn't support ASP, but ASP sucks anyways. Use PHP! Sorry to tell you this, but ASP is really annoying and bad to use! PHP is so much better... I'm really sorry for this answer, but I know both languages, and even PHP, that is often criticized as a really lousy language, is far superior to ASP. If you really want in on the current trends, check out Rails, as it seems really good (even though I've never tried it). And write a few messages here on there on the Xisto forums, and you'll see that in a few days you'll already have incredible hosting that supports PHP and Rails (and maybe even ASP, again, I'm not sure).
-
This might not be the answer you're looking for, but why not make the JavaSscript page in ASP instead of JS? I mean, ASP can parse query strings too, and can even do so in a better way than JS, and besides, with ASP no one can see any processing you're doing to the query string.

WordPress 2 is great! I've actually never even tried 1.x, because I probably got to know about the scene a bit too late. It's really easy to edit the site and adjust it to how you like. Of course for complete overhauls you're gonna have to delve into the code, but that won't be that hard because it's nicely coded (unlike phpBB2... god dammit!). The plugins and themes are varied and usually very cool. And yes, the admin board is just spectacular (even though it takes a while to load the dashboard, but whatever). So easy to use! You can tell the program's creators were trying to "become the end-user" while building this thing, and not just thinking like programmers, and that's a great thing. But unforunately for me, a blog is not sufficient for me, so I went with Drupal, which IMHO is the WordPress equivalent for the CMS world! Drupal has a really brilliant admin board, which really lets you customize your site however you want to, and building plugins for it is so easy!

I always found AnalogX PacketMon to be adequate for my modest sniffing needs. I remember having a problem with it due to my router at one point, but I think that I was able to use it normally afterwards... but just check for yourself! This program is also really good for reverse engineering a protocol or something!

About your statement on compatability, that might be true, but nowadays most neccessary programs can be found in possibly GPLed versions that can run even better on Linux. Firefox for Microsoft IE, OpenOffice.org for Microsoft Office, GIMP for Adobe Photoshop, Gaim for ICQ, MSN Messenger and others, and the list is really never-ending. If the program you want isn't available on Linux, and there's no replacement for it, you can always try running it on Wine, even though admittadely it doesn't run everything, especially not games, though work is being made on that area, and you can always dual-boot your Linux copy with Windows. Besides, all those licensed copies must have cost quite a fortune. And I mean quite a fortune. And let's not even start about buying licenses for Office! Besides, you also are going to have to pay a lot of money for a computer technician to rid your computer of viruses and spyware, which your costly anti-virus program can't take care of. I know I'm being a bit of a zealot here, but I really believe what I say. What you are right about is the GUI and fewease of use though. I've had a hard time installing Linux, and I ended up with running a live-CD version for a hours without internet connectivity (had a hard time, and eventually gave up on trying to configure my USB Wi-Fi adaptor). Windows is just so easy and nice to use, from what I've seen. I've been acquainted in my old school with really old versions of Macintosh (it was around 1998), and they are probably far less useful than today's OS X or whatever, but I remember not liking it back then. All I can say is that Windows has a very nice GUI and user-friendliness, and no one can dispute that, because up 'til now Windows has been quite friendly to me, and I am a user after all, and not much of a power one. To summarize my opinions, no side is absolutely better. Both have so much to learn, but I really can't wait to already have Linux installed permanently on my HD, even though right now I really don't have the time or energy needed (and a lot is needed) to start messing around with partitioning and everything else involved with installing a new Tux-based system.

The Hacker's Google A template for the SE - can you read it?
seec77 replied to cyborgxxi's topic in Search Engines
You're on the Pig Latin team?! WOW!!! I can't believe it! I'm on TV, mommy!! Yeah, I've seen these things. Google are just a t-shirt corporation in my mind... no suits! Only t-shirts! All day, every day! I mean, they take their customers seriously, of course, but at the same time provide so much casualness in their service, and I find that admirable. -
MP3 Player Of Choice? I Need Suggestions!
seec77 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Hardware Workshop
I haven't owned an MP3 player in such a long time, even though I'm a great music aficionado and it is my prime hobby (my band's site is hosted here). I can give you some tips though, I think, just don't forget to take this with specticism, as I might not be that accurate. The iPod has become a major brandname, and as thus it now costs a major bundle. It is not that reliable either, as I've heard that the unreplaceable battery just dies at some point. If I were you, I would go with Creative. More HD space for less bucks! -
Got it! Thanks anyways!

Seems as though the car tuning site has run out of bandwidth. Be adviced that 1asphost, allow people unlimited bandwidth if you mail them and explain a bit about your site and why you need all that bandwidth. At least they used to allow that, don't know if they still do. Now about your counter-strike clan site... wow, it's been so long since I've been in a CS clan. The site really looks good, especially for a clan site, but I do have some problems with it. Anyways, here are my points about it: "Welcome 2 Our Site"? I know your guys play CSS and are 1337, but this a website... stick to proper English! That background image is cut too sharply at the bottom. The members page - the only page I could access apart from the index page and matches page. I think you'll be able to notice that the members extend way below the bottom of the picture, and it really looks bad. Besides, when scrolling through the list, the picture seems to bump and shake a bit, which is really unappealing in my eyes. And why is the sidebar on the far right side of the page? Anyways, this site really has a lot of potential, and I really like it! It's just very appearling, especially the index page, but it seems as only a beginning. BTW, you should post back when you've regained your bandwidth for your first site, so we can review it too!

First of all, you should've seperated the images in your post so we could've gotten a clear view of them. The first one is really nice, I like the color theme and all, and the font is really cool (and I liked how you inseretd the ".: x :." thing, even though it's usually only found ingame and not on banners ). The second banner is kinda plain, but still nice. Is that a second car behind the red one? If so, it should be brought out more, 'cause I can't make out what that is now. Looking at it more I realize it is part of a landscape, right? Well, you should've cut out the car more efficiently, but you should maybe look at giving it a slight blue glow. Anyways, I don't like the font though. The blue one is a bit chaotic. I can't really tell what's going on here! The "S" at the beginning of "special" is really not clear enough, and the text isn't that comprehendable as it is (especially the "SpecialTactisarmy"). Give the text more contrast to the background, to make the transition between it and the gray beneath it more crisp. Don't do that thing with the gray first letters, because they're hardly seen. Maybe you can do that but with a different color. And what is the "a" in "army" not capitalized? And it also seems a bit oddly placed. In short, I like the first two a lot, but as I said, the third one is just a bit messy and unaesthetic. Good luck!

I don't really think that's an adequate reason. I mean, one can also create two accounts on Xisto, and reply to his own posts with more insignificant babble, which is even easier than actually indulging in coherent communication on Xisto. Besides, it's not like it's easier to maintain your hosting credits if you also have a Xisto user, besides your Xisto user, because you still have to participate in twice as many threads and discussions, and write twice as much, to get twice as much hosting creds. Some people just might have a lot to say about both the Xisto and the Xisto areas.

Is it just me that was revolted by the fact that Trojan likes Pokemon 'cause it's popular? Anyways, my romance with Pokemon goes a long way back. In December 1999, while I was living in Brasil, I flew to San Diego, CA to visit my brother, who took me to a game store and suggested I buy the new hottest things! The transcription on the box that said, "Gotta catch 'em all!" really intimaded me because I assumed it's a game where you go around and try to collect things on a time limit. My parents and brother persuaded me to buy it, and so I bought Pokemon Red. I got hooked quickly. Looking back, I just long the innocence I had back then, and how I always loved to learn new things. Give me a Pokemon game today, and I won't have any problem grasping what's going on in it, but as a 9 year-old I find it so magical that I just played through the game and learnt as I went. I took it back to Brasil with me and started playing ferociously. When we came back from winter vacation another kid in my grade had also gotten Pokemon Blue, and we started playing together, until we both (with the help of one another through trading) completed the game - all 151 pokemons. I really loved playing it, and I had already known each pokemon throroughly, including each one's type, evolutions, and even the serial number of some of them. Afterwards, my brother mailed me a VHS tape of the first three episodes of the Anime, and I "premiered" it to my friends on my birthday party. I remember trying to imagine how the theme song to the franchise that had become an integral part of my life by then might sound. We watched it excitedly, and we were still imitating the various pokemon from the show for weeks! Meanwhile lots of other people got the GB game, and it got to a point where everyone already had a party of six pokemon leveled 100 each (through the item multiplication glitch - I did it too after getting two pokemon to that level without resorting to cheating). Pokemon battles at the playground became a strategical thing, because no one's pokemon was stronger than the other's. I remember trying to find a pokemon that aside to being psychic was also another type, so he would have an advantage over Mewtwo, which up to then was the strongest pokemon in everyone's party, and would often cause long sequences of two Mewtwo's fighting each other, and always healing themselves, until one of the Mewtwo's MP ran out (and I mean long). I found Starmie the only pokemon to answer those demands, and it became my signature pokemon, and I became a pokemon master at my school, beating everyone in pokebattles. Then came the TCG! I was never really into that, and never really mastered it as much as I mastered the GB games, so of course I liked it less. I did have a fair share of cards, and even though I hardly ever played a battle with them, I still liked collecting a bit. That was really nice until because my friend Gilbert started crying one time over something related to Pokemon (I was there when it happened, but I don't remember), everything pokemon was banned at my school. After that, I got Pokemon Yellow, but I don't think I ever completed it. The rest of the games I played on an emulator on my PC, except Pokemon Silver, of which I got a ripped copy (I didn't know it was ripped at the time!), but I never really finished another game completely, and I never really remembered more pokemon than the 151 I knew. That's it! That's the story of my early childhood (I was 9 year old at the time... ) addiction, and I still feel a great inclination towards the pokemon world. I still have a copy of Pokemon Red, even though I lost my Pokemon Yellow, and I don't really count the fake Pokemon Silver I own as anything. I also have my TCG collection intact, sitting in my closet, and when I tried connecting more to a kid I'm guiding in a youth movement, we had lots to talk about as he's also into the pokemon trading cards, years after they first came out! Whew, that was long.

Playing sound is far more easier than playing Video. First of all, to play video you have to build a GUI, and provide whatever video library you're using with a space on which to render the video. The library you have to use really depends on the video format you're using (also true for audio), but Windows might have an API function to play AVI files, and then I'm completely wrong. If you wanna use COM, then there is a Windows Media Player ActiveX control you can use to display all kinds of video formats (especially if codecs are installed on your system). Try searching MSDN for "AVI" or something similar. And one more thing. I hate Java. You're far off better with C++. Good luck!

Can I transfer credits from an Xisto forum account to or from a Xisto forum account? I host a website for my band here on Xisto, and another band member of mine wanted to support me with the forum activity thing (I can't always be active), but he's more interested in the discussions going on at Xisto. I know the Transfer Credits page, but it only asks for a username to transfer to, and I noticed that my AH username isn't registered on Trap, so that means that the credit transfer host relies on there only being one instance of a username, and if I were able to transfer credits to Trap from there, then you guys would've had to assure my user was registered over there at Trap. In short, is it possible?
