  1. Hello all,I need to upgrade a computer to increase its performance for image processing with adobe photoshop cs. The problem I have is because digital pro-images are quite large (12megapixel) the computer totally slow down when opening, aplying a modification,etc.. anything you do will take a long time. The actual computer is a AMD athlon 64 +3400 with 1Gb of RAM. Graphics card is nVidia 5200. Hardisk is SATA 7000rpm (seagate)What do you improve to achieve more performance for this kind of work?As this computer is not for gaming, I don't know if a better graphics card would help.More RAM will speed up anything? The CPU is ok? or it is too much slow ?As you can see, in hardware I'm plenty of doubts so any expert's advice will be appreciated.
  2. I will be grateful if you can show me more about this. If I buy a SLI motherboard I could put two nVidia graphic cards working together? or the graphic cards need to be special ones? The graphic cards could be AGP or need to be PCI ? I'll appreciate if you can give me some example to understand it better.
  3. in fact I think endurance is the strongest point for gaming mouses. Resolution also is higher than normal so movement is smoother. Mine (logitech G5) also have two buttons in it's top for increase/decrease the mouse resolution (dpi).
  4. Finally I managed to have one of these lens in my hand !They look great ! the VR option finally means they have an image stabilizer inside, so you can shoot by hand with slow shutter speeds and the picture do not get blurred. Also is quite huge, lens has a very wide diameter (72mm) and their fastest aperture is f:3.5Surely Nikon has hit the nail with this lens, but the worse part is the price.
  5. 2 x BFG ... you are saying you have two graphic cards working together to double the graphics power? If it is, how is possible to do that? It is possible to do with any graphics card? or must be a special one? I am VERY interested in this issue. Thanks to all.
  6. The very basic (and inexpensive) filters to have are: a Circular Polarizer and a Graduated Neutral Density filter. Also spending money in a good tripod and a TTL flash are always a good investment. Canon Digital Rebel is a good camera (in europe is sold as Canon 350D) and the lens kit is not bad at all. Personally I have no experience with it, as all my equipment is Nikon, but one friend of mine have it and I saw spectacular photos made with it. Don't worry too much with hardware and take photos. Some of the best fotos has been taken with non-pro cameras !
  7. Mi taste is Filezilla also.I've using it for several years and is one of the best FTP client I have tried. For FTP server, I can recommend GuildFTPd as is easy to configure and performs very well.
  8. In fact I agree with all of you, above 4 or 5 megapixel is not needed unless you need large prints. But what sparx said makes me think... The camera manufacturers in short will no produce film cameras. Nikon has announced recently the discontinuation of all of their film cameras except F6. In my opinion, nowadays there is no digital camera that can outperform film, but seems the marketing guys are doing a good job promoting digital products. I'm afraid that in short, film will start to dissapear from commerces... so we can't load our film cameras anymore.
  9. that is, as by the way the megapixels count is up and growing, it seems there is no limit, 4 -5 -6 -7 some SLRs have 10 and 12 megapixel, but do you think that huge resolution is needed at all ?What is more important? A high megapixel resolution or a good lens attached on a camera ?The discussion is served ! let see your opinions !!!
  10. With Photoshop you can correct anything from color quality and tonal range to altering the composition and sharpening the overall quality of your picture. By following these basic steps you can make improvements to your picture: - Make sure that yor scan quality is best for your images use. - The image should be cropped to the size you intend it to be when it is finished. - Adjust the contrast and tonal range of your picture. - Alter or remove any color contrasts. - Work on specific parts of your image to enhance highlights, middle tones, shadows and desaturated colors. - And sharpen the focus of your image overall.
  11. Is a known problem that some video cards have a lot of problems with the directX when gaming. For example, in the past, I had a lot of problems with a Matrox card and changing to a nVidia solved all the problems !
  12. Anybody know how is possible to link two graphic cards ? You need two monitors, or you connect one monitor and they share the GCPUS? I'm VERY interested in that !
  13. I'll bet for PS3. Always is the same history: Microsoft lauch first it's console and some people buy it because there is no competitors with its performance, but when new Sony's arrives, the Xbox practically dissapear from the stores.I'm not exagerating if I say that I don't know where I could buy a brand new Xbox now in my city. But if you want a PS2, go to any supermarket and here it is.
  14. I prefer Firefox at all. There are a lot of new features of IE that are only a copy of the Firefox original ones.Microsoft always claims about their innovation, but really the only thing they do is to plagiarize...Also Firefox is more stable and secure !
  15. I need to try it !Anybody can advice a good tutorial to start with php ?
  16. Hi all !I need to put online a little shop and I am really a newbie in this.I have found a software called osCommerce, it is php based and is free also! What do you think about this software? is good enough ?Anybody know any other solution (freeware if possible) ?Is there any tutorial on how to put a store online and how to do easily ?I'm concerned about what could happen if someone steal information of customers of the shop's database. What things I need to have in mind about security ?I'm plenty of doubts, so I'll appreciate any suggestion.
  17. Also a book that worked for me was C programming Herbert Schildt it is from McGRAW-HILL editorial. I learned C with this book a lot of years ago and still is my companion when a doubt come around !
  18. As always happens with Microsoft, they want to be omnipresent and have all the control.C++ is the standard universal languageC# is the microsoft's alternative
  19. Also if you have magnetic sensitive devices around like floppy disks or maybe a microdrive (used in digital cameras and MP3 players) it could be a very big problem because all data in this devices will be corrupted. In fact if your computer is very near, their hardisk could be adversely affected too.
  20. All the people talks about nanotechnology for its application in medicine and other good things. But surely the main research for this technology is done for militar application field. I'm little scared about nanobots and its applications.
  21. Hi !I just buyed a new LCD monitor to replace my old CRT monitor. The new monitor have two conection options: VGA and DVI. Now I have it connected to VGA, because my graphic card do not have the DVI conection.I don't know if image quality will change between VGA and DVI. If I buy a new graphics card with DVI output I will see any quality improvement? The graphics card I have now is a nVidia 5200 so in fact I am not needing more graphics performance and if I buy a new one will be only for the DVI output feature. Do you spend the money for DVI ?
  22. I always have the same doubt. In fact there are only two technologies of graphic cards: nVidia and ATI , but what is better ? There are any substancial diference between them? Despite of the different model of cards of course, I mean if you compare two similar cards but one nVidia and the other ATI... what will be the key to make a decission?
  23. Currently I am using the Logitech G5 Laser Mouse. I know it is a gaming grade mouse, but I really use it for programming and desktop applications. I'm working a lot of hours in front of the computer and I buyed this because my previous mouse ( a 50$ microsoft optical mouse ) died after several months of use. In fact the left button do not click anymore. Microsoft said it was not mouse construction defect, the problem was I used the mouse a lot and it get old in only few months. What an answer, no ? Returning about the logitech G5 mouse, this is a pretty beast. The optical part is now laser and by the way you can't see any red light at the bottom. It seems to be a infrared laser or something like this, because I can't see the laser beam at all. But surely it is there because the mouse works and performs very very good and smooth. I have the corded version because I prefer corded mouses in the fact they are lighter than wireless as they do not need to carry the battery. As a curiousity, the mouse case construction is the same (wired or wireless) and in the wired version a plastic box that fits in the battery place is included. Also some weighted pieces are suppied to put in this box and adjust the mouse weight to your personal feelings.
