  1. Yeah it's great. I'm still using the old opera 8.5 (I think) but I will upgrade soon.I tried the beta of opera 9 before but all my settings wand passwords and cookies etc had been gone, so i continued to use opera 8.5It does look much better, i tried a couple of pages with the beta version and it's much more stable and faster. Also There's that nice opera widgets box that hovers at the top of your screen whenever opera is running (could even have it minimized to the taskbar and it'l still show). You can easily download widgets without any hassle. They also have alot of widgets to choose from and they create quite a few, so if you don't find one check back in a week and see what's new ;)I might end up downloading opera 9 right now, depends if i can be bothered -HellFire
  2. Try updating the drivers ( Usually a few steps back helps ), if that doesn't work it's probably a corrupt DirectX installation so i'd reinstall the latest directx. If that still doesn't work i'd try some patched up drivers.-HellFire
  3. Heh.. well they're designing all these voice activated things because it helps very busy people who are probably already typing something and need to do a quick google search. Things like that. Also I can see the voice recognition is still developing and if developers can get it right it can be big.So because everyones voice is different it can be a great security feature also it can be used in games, another way to validate a key for example. So really voice recognition can be pretty powerful in the end-HellFire
  4. It pretty much goes like saying that if you tell a router to forward a port to an ip in your local network and there were no MAC addresses, it wouldn't know where to go. The ip is like an identification number that is bound to the MAC address.Hope that makes it clear, also as snutz said.. there will be no way to know if you've used an ip for some illegal activity for instance. Even though your ISP can track the ip down to one certain house, say there is more than one pc and person living there. They have no idea which person did it. (Unless they had a peek in the routers logs etc..)-HellFire
  5. Wow... I knew you could make a usb drive bootable, but that is like putting a whole os on a tiny drive, you can pretty much take your computer around with you.As you said this will be great in buisinesses and with drive spaces increasing it makes more sence to do this. The only real downside is that you need a computer to use it with, so it really isn't that on demand if your out somewhere.I might try this when i get a bigger flash drive, sounds cool-HellFire
  6. I would say use linux/unix because imo they are the most stable operating systems for servers. The external ip address won't matter so it is the configuration of the router/hub that the server is connected to.Apache is a pretty powerful and expandable web server for this type of server. You will only need to set it up for internal LAN use so it is impossible for people outside the LAN to access the server. You might also want to install php and mysql on the server, also some kind of client login system or management system as well as a news sysetm. (Really depends on the exact purpose of the intranet).Hope this helps-HellFire
  7. Heh gotta see this.. Only problem is that if they do get released they will be slow. I'm not sure about the hybrid models though, they might be a bit faster. When the companies actualy get these out on the streets you can expect alot to change, first of all there will be less air pollution so it will make a more healthier environment for people to live in. I think they are cheaper too so that's another reason. The major downside would be the battery. Charging it could take a while-HellFire
  8. I don't really like editing the registry, for things i am confident with it isn't really a problem. There are a number of risks here:1. Broken registry (which would mean a trashed windows)2. No internet access (I doubt this but it still could happen)3. Slowed internet access (If anything does go wrong, this is more than likely to happen). The easiest way to get more out of your connection is to simply upgrade your speed :lol:Also, those programs that claim to speed up your internet access don't really work (in my opinion anyway) so just a warning!-HellFire
  9. Usually CHMOD to 755, because if you CHMOD to 777 it will give an error saying that the directory is writable etc.
  10. Lol.. wow that's some damage there, The keyboard i'm on has been through alot, it is almost 7 years old (Yeah i know) and it has ONE drink spilled on it. You can't really notice though but some keys don't work sometimes. When i get my new computer (In a few days ) Then things will start to change, can't wait
  11. I think microsoft is overprotecting their software, why have an online verification system when you could have something else. It's rediculous. Like that time I had bought a valid windows xp copy and tried to validate it online, it worked the first time but then around a month after when i needed to download a program, it said i had to validate again, i tried and it said my key was already validated. Now that is definately overprotecting their software.Like someone said before, it isn't even that good, it is just popular. One day I think windows will fall and the open source oses will be way more popular-HellFire
  12. Very nice.. especially that it has only been written in css.Has some good themes too but there's not really much point in creating something like this, even though it's quite cool.-HellFire
  13. I would suggest an ipod nano or a creative zen that would give you what you want.I am currently using a creative muvo 128mb and the battery life is quite high, it can go on for days playing and it doubles as a flash drive. It can also support wma and mp3 and it is very easy to install.. just plug and play :lol:So yeah, have a search around for the one you'd like the most, if i were you i'd pick one of the newest ones because they usually come with all those features as standard.Good luck picking one!-HellFire
  14. Yeah I agree it is one of the best gaming sites. It has a great interface and design, it is so easy to navigate through it and find what you want. Also if you register for an account you can set flags on games you want to watch and games you are playing, they also feature a wishlist. In my opinion, yeah it's great so use it!-HellFire
  15. Wow.. nice work and effort you put into them. You do have some great skill.I would rate each of them above 8/10Great work!-HellFire
  16. I use google because it is fast to load, no crap scripts that drag down the performance of your pc and you get results very fast, Also most browsers come with a built in google search tool and more people use it.-HellFire
  17. smartftp for me. It was the first ftp program I used, and with the newest update, it is even better. They have redone the whole interface to use the windows xp theme and it looks much cleaner.I suggest that people use smartftp also because it is free for personal use.It supports easy drag and drop file transfers as well as ftp to ftp transfers.I highly recommend this client to anyone that needs an ftp client -HellFire
  18. I use NOD32 for my antivirus, it does a great job and uses very little resources, you don't even know it's running.I use my routers NAT protection as a first defence firewall, and I use zonealarm security suite with the antivirus disabled.I use zonealarm's antispyware function as my first defence against spyware/adware and I use spyware doctor as a scanner.A combination of these tools, in my opinion is a great defence.Of course you need to be careful what you download etc..-HellFire
  19. Nice.. If you use these sort of utilities you can easily get your pagerank higher.I need to do alot of optimizing on my website, so these will come in handyThanks!-HellFire
  20. Counter Strike 1.6 is relatively cheap now.You can buy it off steam for around $15.That is a great package because it comes with cs, cs:cz and another cs.Even though CS is older than CS:S more people are playing it. Just take a look on steams website at the server and player stats, it's quite a big difference. You will get hours of fun out of CS.. I can assure you
  21. Yeah.. if you do get a wireless network make it secured as soon as you can.Even secured networks can still be broken into, and the consequences of that happening are quite high. They can look at and change the settings in your modem and hardware. They can steal your internet access, but they need to be pretty close to the source of the wireless networking for it to be a sufficient speed. Also they can take a look at all the devices and folders on the network.Say if your printer is turned on they can print something from it (If the printer is shared). They can access all the computers on the network, all the shared folders and if they are a good enough hacker, they could even get to EVERY file on your computer. So, yeah, As you can see it is a BIG privacy issues. You can scan the area if there are any wireless devices so you can make sure it is safe for a wireless network. If you can, use a wired network.- HellFire
  22. It looks like the admins have finally fixed the problem.Hopefully if no one did go over their actual limit there won't be any suspended accounts .They still haven't fixed the webalizer stats though, which is a shame because they are a really powerful stats program. Oh well, at least one bug has been fixed
  23. It should have a setting somewhere in its configuration settings page.As for the xbox, you usually need a crossover cable that will plug straight into the router. You will need to open the router's intranet and look for the ddns entries or the devices connected to the router.Find the ip address of the newly connected xbox, then you are ready to do what you need to do with it connected to your computer. But i have no idea how to wirelessly network them. You might want to check the xbox's instruction manual or check the routers instruction manual.~HellFire
  24. I'd personally go with frontpage because that is all I have used.It has good features and great editing techniques, although some of them are quite hard to work properly, and usually cause fustration. What I usually do when i make sites is i make a template in imageready, export it has html files and open them up in FP.It still does get annoying when you are trying to do something but frontpage does something else.It has an easily accessible interface, makes it very easy to find the control you wantLater on i might try another html editor to see if it is better than photoshop.Overall FP is a good program for people only new in website design and creation
