e107 and MKPortal are two independent CMS packages. Firstly, inorder to use these CMS, you need to have a host that supports PHP & MySQL, like Xisto for instance. When you have the required credits, apply for hosting here and when you are provided one then you can start uploading and testing which CMS would suit you better. If you cant wait enough for an online hosting, you could always make your PC a webserver and test things out before you go for a online host. To make a webserver on your PC, you could use USBWebServer, go through the installation and FAQs if you run into problems and set up a Web server on your local PC first. Make shure PHP and MySQL are included in the install. Then all you have to do is drop the folder of e107 in the www folder and go to FireFox or IE and type in LOCALHOST/ .. Go through the steps on the screen and u'll be up and running with a CMS on your local PC in no time. But instead of goin through all this trouble, i'd suggest you collect enough credits on Xisto and apply for a hosting of your choice. And once your approved and ready to go. Then guiding you through the installation is a piece of cake .. or you could use the CMS readme file that ALWAYS helps and is more understandable for a new user. Regards Dhanesh. -
Wouldent a BIOS update and a PS2-USB converter help ? I mean that was my intention while posting. If there isnt a BIOS update available for your laptop, then the USB idea could be dropped. OR .. doing it the hard way lol .. remove ur HDD and connect it to USB on your desktop via an external case. You normally get the external case with an adapter and USB connectivity for cheap nowadays. Connect it to your desktop, install what u have to from there and then connect the HDD again to your laptop .. Regards Dhanesh.

Googled a bit and found out 2 links that could be of use, tho they might not be related to what ur doing, but would give you an idea. Link 1 Link 2 On the other hand, if you have an external HDD, y dont you use that as a USB boot ? Just a suggestion. A Thumb drive is of less space, so if you have sumthing like a 4GB thumb drive .. you could easily boot from it on startup. Regards Dhanesh.

As far as submissions are concerned, i think a CMS (Content Management System) would help you. Yes its free too. There are many CMS out there but it depends on which one suits your needs. I personaly like using the e107 CMS, easy to install on asta, and easy to use and also has a built in forum system. Plus its got loads of plugins and a huge userbase. And incase you run into any trouble, the forums are helpful all the time. Another one i like is MKPortal, but well that needs a seperate forum software installed. So try out both and see which one suits you. I am shure u will get other CMS names from users here, so i suggest you try them out too. e107 MKPortal Regards Dhanesh. -
Dude .. thats just mean .. LOL ... mean shleen .. M$ really needs to get lessons in customer satisfaction. I mean y make 6-7 versions of vista in the first place with all having different specs. and even if they did that, y the heck make them so damn graphic intense that a good ol NVidia GeForce4 MX 440 has no choice but to go blank on installation of the RC2 .. Ohh well .. as far as specs are concerned .. i think my laptop with 1GB RAM and 30GB HDD space .. with a 128 shared intel GFX handles vista pretty well .. but then again .. most of the drivers dont really work .. Vista is actually XP on steroids .. Regards Dhanesh.

LOL .. old one .. but always brings a smile thinking of what the future would be like .. LMFAO @ "other peoples conversations"

Ok .. Heres a weird one. I have a laptop and no floppy drive, I want to boot up to command prompt so i can manually use the format command (Vista RC1 would keep your old windows files as "windows.old" and occoupy that much of space). Is there a way i could make a cd thats similar to a Start-up Disk ?RegardsDhanesh.

Sharing Drives & Folders The next step after your configuration of the Desktop PC would be to enable what Drives/Folders you want to share, so that you can read and write to them from any other PC connected to it. 1) In this case, I've taken my E: drive and I want to share it with another PC that I connect. So open "My Computer" and right click on any other Drive you want, and SELECT "Sharing and Security" 2) Incase you never connected to a network; you would be presented with a screen like this. 3) After you accept to the previous screen by clicking on the link, you will be presented with another screen like this, where you'll have to SELECT "Network Setup Wizard" 4) Once on the Network Setup Wizard, go through the screens till you come to a point where it shows you your LAN hardware, SELECT it and then TICK "ignore disconnected network hardware" 5) Then you have to SELECT the first option of your computer connecting to the internet directly as this is your Desktop/Computer 1 and it would directly communicate with your modem. 6) Next you'll be asked to SELECT your internet connection, so choose your correct hardware that connects to the INTERNET. 7) Next give any computer description you want to, so it is easier for you to identify and then give your Desktop/Computer 1 a name, let this name be unique and make sure you do not use the same name elsewhere for any other Computer on the network. 8) The next step is important because the WORKGROUP you specify here would have to same on the other computer as well. For this I use the default name by Microsoft MSHOME. 9) Next SELECT "turn on file and printer sharing" 10) And lastly SELECT "Just finish the wizard, I don't need to run the wizard on other computers" and HIT next. 11) Finally, the Network and Sharing box will be enabled, so here TICK "share this folder on the network", give a share name if you wish or just leave the default. And TICK "allow network users to change my files". 12) To share a folder, right click on a folder and SELECT "sharing and security", then when you are presented with a properties box, do the same as you did for sharing your hard drive. TICK "share this folder on the network", give a share name if you wish or just leave the default. And TICK "allow network users to change my files". Your job on the Desktop/Computer 1 is DONE! Configure your Laptop/Computer 2 1) On your Laptop/Computer 2, go to Start > Connect to > Show all connections. 2) Select your LAN card and right click to select Properties. 3) Once in your LAN hardware properties, TICK "Show icon in notification area when connected" and SELECT 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and HIT properties. 4) In your TCP/IP properties SELECT "Use the following IP addresses" and fill in the following; IP Address : 192.168.0.2 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway : 192.168.0.1 SELECT "use the following DNS server addresses", and fill the following: Preferred DNS server : 192.168.0.1 And HIT advanced. 5) Once here, SELECT the 'WINS' tab and SELECT "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP". 6) Now HIT "ok" on all the screens to close them, and this ends the configuration for your LAN hardware on your Laptop/Computer 2. Make sure that your WORKGROUP is the same on both the PC's you connect. Like the screenshot shown below of both the Desktop and the Laptop. If you want to check your WORKGROUP names or want to change them, go to START>right click My Computer and SELECT properties, then SELECT the "Computer Name" tab, and do your necessary changes. Connect the Cross-Over wire on both the PC's and Whooot ! We have a network. On your Laptop/Computer 2, go to START > RUN and type in " \\192.168.0.1 " without quotes. This is the address of your Desktop computer. When you hit enter you will be presented with a folder which would show you all the Drives and Folders you are sharing. Your Internet will also be on the network so feel free to browse too. THE END Hope this tutorial helps many. If you have any comments or suggestions please post up. And if anyone can add more stuff into this or even extend this tutorial, then please feel free to do so. The tutorial looks kinda mesed up, cause of so many images and posting restrictions. So hopefully next time i'll do a clean and better job Regards Dhanesh.

Hello Folks, Its been long since i've posted so thought i'd keep myself alive by posting up a useful tutorial. I know how hard it can be to not know about something, and ask around with no clue of whats goin on. So i've made sure that every word in this tutorial is understandable by any new user with the least knowledge of a PC and Networking. PC-PC Home Networking Tutorial First and foremost make sure you have the right cable. A Right cable would be a Cross-Over LAN wire (PC-PC). A Cross-Over cable is used ONLY when you connect two PCs together. Where as a Straight-Through wire is used only when you want to connect your two or more PCs to a single computer via a HUB. This is a basic knowledge about networking that everyone should know. So let's get started, do not connect any wire yet because we have to configure the PC. Configuring the Desktop/Computer 1 1) On your Desktop/Computer 1, go to Start > Connect to > Show all connections. 2) Select your LAN card and right click to select Properties. 3) Once in your LAN hardware properties, TICK "Show icon in notification area when connected" and SELECT 'Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and HIT properties. 4) In your TCP/IP properties SELECT "Use the following IP addresses" and fill in the following; IP Address : 192.168.0.1 Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway : 192.168.0.2 SELECT "use the following DNS server addresses", and fill the following: Preferred DNS server : 192.168.0.2 And HIT advanced. 5) Once here, SELECT the 'WINS' tab and SELECT "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP". 6) Now HIT "ok" on all the screens to close them, and this ends the configuration for your LAN hardware on your Desktop/Computer 1. Regards Dhanesh.

Laptop Anti-Shock Gear [Where To Find]
dhanesh1405241511 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Hardware Workshop
Thankx for the quik up wutske, I am using a targus bagpack to keep my laptop, but the only drawback of a backpack is that you have to put it vertically inside. In the process of doing this, everytime i take the laptop in and out of the bag, i have to be very carefull so as to not catch the sides too tight so that the dvdrom would just stick in or the sides shouldent just crack in with the force of the grip i pull it out. Normally its safe and i make shure the my laptop is not harmed by external physical force, but the rubber i was asking for was just at the side edges or probably sumthing that can cover the front and rear with anti-shock material like rubber to take the shock. Newayz, m still searching .. so if i find sumthing i'll let you guys know .. but if you come accross sumthing please do post up. Regards Dhanesh. -
Hey guys .. been a long long time since my last post and visit .. well university and work keeping me buzy but as always when i am need of advice i look towards the guru's of asta to help me out :)I was looking for an Anti-Shock gear, or lets say something like an addon for my laptop. I dont know how well i could explain my self, but leme try.Something like a rubber edge lock or a rubber case that could fit on my laptop completely and not interfere with opening and closing of the laptop. Something like a clear rubber case (some call it the comdom case) for a mobile. I dont need a sleeve or anything, but an addon that could take the slight bangs on walls etc. I am careful with my laptop, but its never to safe.Leme know if you guys find anything. RegardsDhanesh.

Boot Screen Edit
dhanesh1405241511 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
LOL .. hope you were sercastic mark , cause i am done with installation after installation .. Newayz, i got into boot/grub/ and there i didnt find a file called grub.conf but rather had weird files like device.map, stage1, stage2, ohh and there was menu.lst but this file was protected as in i could see a lock on the document icon, when i go to open it i see a message saying "You donot have enough permissions to read file:///boot/grub/menu.lst" .. i am the only user so shouldnt i be the admin ? or is it like OS protected .. if so how do i view this file ? Regards Dhanesh. EDIT: WOHOOOOOOO, Asta looks good tru Linux hehe, Ok i got to read the file, gosh i am a bit late in understanding .. All i had to do was get into System > File Manager > Super User Mode .. Newayz, I see the file now and umm this is it .. Default is 0 so leme leave that to it (but just out of curiosity, what does it do?) .. Timeout is 8 so that would be the time taken before it loads up the default selection. Now how do i go about changing this file ? Is it safe to move the entire chunk of Windows to the top and the Linux below that ? Umm .. Ohh well could some one explain whats the whole document as in line wise ? I mean only if you have the time, else i'd go searching and i hate searching when i dont know what to search lol. Regards Dhanesh. -
I Installed Windows first and then SuSe linux on another partition. Now everytime i start my laptop, i get GRUB to load a selective boot screen of SuSe , that allows me to select :1) SuSe Boot2) Windows Boot3) SuSe Safe BootBy default the select is made on suse and the time is 10 secs, is there any way i can edit the time and the order of these bootups ? I think i could do this from linux, but how ?RegardsDhanesh.

Suse Installation Question
dhanesh1405241511 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Really sorry for the delay in reply, you see windows was keeping me buzy .. I have the recovery CD for my laptop, but was trying to make/install a clean windows xp installation on my C: partition, WHICH didnt happen even after 7 re-installs, 5 dvds waste and all that time waste .. i'd love to embrace my windows so bad so to choke it to death !Newayz, Thankx xboxrulz for that last bit of info. And thank you yordan .. i got what you were trying to tell me about the file exchange in both the system due to the mount. I am currently done with a fresh install of windows and now installing SuSe .. so hopefully this would be the last install ..... for today ...I guess we should end this post here, and i'll have to make a new one for the extra problems i come accross in suse, so hope you guys help me there too, so wish me luck ;)Thanks for the help and support you guys are giving, dont know what i would have done without Xisto and you guys Cheers !RegardsDhanesh. -
Suse Installation Question
dhanesh1405241511 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Ahh yes thankx for pointing that out, i have to change it back to SATA and see if it works. But i am guessing you knew this from /dev/sda where sda is for SCSI. The rest 3 bootup options are not necessary as of now, but what would they do if selected ? Checked a few sites out and Ctrl-Alt-F2 seems to be the combo on a PC. Tho its always better to check out and then be shure Yordan ,, hehe, well i quiet didnt get what u ment by this, but leme tell you what i did understand (plz correct me if m wrong). In linux i tried to access the computer and under it all i could see was my files, because the last install also had somthing like Set mount point of /dev/sda1 to /windows/C etc. So if i understood you right, then there should be a folder in "my computer" in linux that says windows and all the drives listed under it ? I normally would not mess around with transfering files but i need to know this in order to do a network in linux. The exact same type of network i am doing under windows. I share the D: drive on my desktop and when i hit \\192.168.0.1\ i see the drive and a printer. If file exachange is possible on windows to windows platform, it should be possible on linux to windows platform, considering the mounting done ? Gosh, duno if that made sense, but please dont get frustrated .. i see xbox getting red as hell and yordan is at the verge of getting red . Regards Dhanesh. -
Suse Installation Question
dhanesh1405241511 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Ok, my questions on the new installation side by side .. 1) I boot up from the CD .. and i have a screen that shows me 7 options. Being a learner i wouldent want to play with all functions but what would the following options do/mean ? Installation ( I know this would install a full and clean install of suse ) - I chose this one both times Installation - ACPI Disabled Installation - Local APIC Disabled Installation - Safe Settings Rescue System 2) Yordan .. this is for you hehe .. After i left the F: drive as unpartitioned this is what it did/dev/sda 93.1GB HDD /dev/sda1 39.0GB NTFS C: /dev/sda2 54.0GB Extended /dev/sda5 19.5GB NTFS D: /dev/sda6 19.5GB NTFS E: /dev/sda7 1.4GB Linux Swap /dev/sda8 5.6GB Linux Native (reiser) / /dev/sda9 7.9GB Linux Native (reiser) /home Proposed installation by suse : Create swap partition /dev/sda7 (1.4GB) Create root partition /dev/sda8 (5.6GB) with reiserfs Create partition /dev/sda9 (7.9GB) for /home with reiserfs Set mount point of /dev/sda1 to /windows/C (Whats this ? does it change/mount anything here ?) Set mount point of /dev/sda5 to /windows/D (Whats this ? does it change/mount anything here ?) Set mount point of /dev/sda6 to /windows/E (Whats this ? does it change/mount anything here ?) I know this is right, but just want to confirm it through you guys. I will then go ahead and blindly hit next Thats all for now, m off to sleep. Will check back tommorow and start installing then .. lets see how it goes this time. Hopefully i know a lil about linux, thankx to you guys. Regards Dhanesh. -
Suse Installation Question
dhanesh1405241511 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
xboxrulez, you pointed out the word i was looking for, "ReiserFS" indeed. SuSe has ReiserFS written after every partition it creates/wants to create, so now i am guessing its a good thing. About the ext3 over ext2 explaination, i understood that pretty much, but just going through a few websites to get more info on those. If GNOME is not for beginners then i might be better off with KDE anyways i have to reinstall suse with all the changes/mistakes that i have learned so far so this time i'll use KDE as my desktop, but i dont think the default install of KDE gives me firefox, i have to d'load it seperately. WHICH is another question in itself lol, installation of software would be later on but first i need to get my hands a lil wet with linux to get to know it better. If CTRL+ALT+F6 isnt the force quit combo then what would it be (in GNOME i mean) ? And since i'll be using KDE in my next install, CTRL+ESC would be the force quit combo as you mentioned earlier :)Yordan, regarding the installation on the free space, i'll just have to try it hands on to see if i can manage that, then only i could post my findings. But thanks for the tip tho, so now my HDD would be :C: 40 - Windows , D: 20 - BLANK-NTFS , E: 20 - BLANK-NTFS , F: 20 - BLANK-unpartitioned.I am not going to format it with any file system, but let suse do that. It would be easier that way I'll post up as soon as i get into partition screen and if i run into any problems lol .. sorry.RegardsDhanesh.
