  1. One time I had it. I was out of school for 3 and half weeks and all I could do was sleep. It made me beyond sleepy! Plus it got to my liver and I was jaundiced. That was a little funny because I was all yellow and I've never seen pee so dark! It was a mystery where I picked it up though. -----We're actually talking about a software called Mono... not the disease... But thanks for sharing.-----szupie
  2. Actually most distros come with partitioning programs that are capable of resizing NTFS partitions (using a program that employs NTFSresize). He was complaining about the default installation settings (per his clarification). Though there might be some fault in his direction for not checking the settings before he installed. I think this thread shows exactly why there are so many people who get off of linux fast: The main mode of support, the community, is populated by a bunch of elitists who jump on someone for saying anything that might be an issue, or might not be. Especially if it is a distro the self-important elitists use themselves. Even when the user is at fault, and not the distro, there is no reason that this can't be explained in a polite and more hlepful way.
  3. One game says it all: Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. Everyone expected this one to be a top-down like the old GTAs but they have ported the Modern GTA style gameplay to the PSP. This game is set in Liberty City like GTA-3 but it's not the same game.
  4. I am interested in setting up a photoblog with my free hosting I have here, but I am having little to no luck with it.I have tried pixelpost, folderblog and photoblogger, and I haven't been happy with any of these. They were all early in development and unwieldy.I am willing to try and work something like Movable Type into a photoblog, but it's some work, and I'm not sure of all I need to do with it.Can you recommend a photoblogging CMS? Can you give some guidance on making a Blog CMS, or othe CMS into a photoblog? Thanks in advance!
  5. Actually you are both right. The PSP plays UMDs, the proprietary media for the PSP on which the game are also written, but you can also rip your DVDs to your computer, convert them to the proper format with various available software, and use the USB 2.0 connection to transfer them to another form of proprietary media, the Memory Stick Duo. The memory stick packaged with the PSP is only 32 megs, though, and this isn't enough to store a movie. You might get away with some movies on a 512 megabyte stick, but only if you're willing to take a hit in quality. The best solution is to buy a gigabyte stick. This is an expensive option though with the lowest price occasional online sales pricing them at around 80-90 dollars. If your money is burning a hole in your pocket you could buy a 2 gigabyte stick but it is upwards of 170 dollars! Personally I own a PSP, but have been unable to afford a Gigabyte sized stick. I do own a couple of UMD movies but only my favorites. When purchased new they can cost 24-27 dollars typically. Some are as low as 18 dollars and some are as high as 32. I purchased both of mine used for 14 and 13 dollars. Watching movies on the PSP is great, but only for travel. Boy does it make the hours on a plane/car go by quick!
  6. From what I could tell when I heard this story, it is also supposed to be ultra-durable and take abuse like no other.
  7. Try using bootvis. This is program from Microsoft that monitors what happens when you boot your computer and then changes certain settings to make it faster. It changed mine from 23 seconds to 11. I first ran into it on the from Reformat to Relax XP tweaking guide. It's an excellent guide and I'd recommend it to everyone.
  8. Google works by tracking incoming links from other pages, but it's not necessarily the quantity as it is the quality. Google assigns each web page a PageRank (click for wiki article). Basically the PageRank can be 0-10. It is better to have a few links from PR10 sites than a ton from PR0 sites. The PR of incoming links also plays a major role in determining your PR. Building your PR is very challenging and often people resort to link farms, but this only lasts a while because eventually Google recognizes a link farm for what it is and penalizes its PR. You best bet is to build a quality site with original work that people will apreciate. It comes down to "if you build it, they will come."
  9. Whoever told you it has the graphics of the PS1 is full of it and probably a Nintendo fanboy. It has a processor that is capable of more polygons per second than the PS2, but because it is working on a smaller resolution. Still, the point remains that I'd call the graphics near-PS2 quality. Find someone who has it and get a look at it. Watch some of the videos at psp.ign.com. Games you should check out for a real indication of the PSP's graphics and how good they can be are Ridge Racers and Madden 06. I can tell you that owning a PSP makes long car-trips and plane-rides go by like nothing. There's also nothing like having some of your favorite console games on the go, though there are plenty of original PSP titles. For a first game I'd recommend Burnout Legends, especially if you liked Burnout 3. This captures the awesome feeling of speed and the graphics from the console-cousin very well. Another excellent choice would be Lumines. It's a 2D puzzler that looks like tetris but is far from it. It's a brilliant collusion of light and sound from the same revolutionary developer who created Rez for the PS2. Though it doesn't show off the graphics, it is addicting. I say if you get it, you won't put it down for a long long long time. There's too many good games!
  10. Someone needs to create "gmail-drive" for this mail service...then I would have the ultimate harddrive. How did you back up your harddrive to their e-mail, killer? You must have awesome upstream speeds on your net connection?
  11. Well I am a Christian. You might think I would say no, but you would be surprised. In my eyes, I think that "God" could have created the universe so that it looks like there was a big bang. What made it expand was what ever forces were holding it together in the first place went away. Physicists who study this say that for all the matter to be compressed into that point, there had to be a lot of energy and the temperatre would have ammounted to more than is measurable. They also say that the energy present was strong enough the four forces (gravitational, electromagnetic, strong, and weak). The four forces are really out of scientific popularity, as things have gone more in favor of string theories. One thing we'll never know is what happened before because all we can see is the big bang. Light traveling from the big bang reaches us now, so it is in a way looking into the past as we look at that light. I think a more important question is not did the big bang happen, but is the "big crush" going to happen? Is the gravitational pull of all matter going to bring pull all the expanding galaxies back into a "reverse" big bang? I say let the scientists figure it all out! LOL!
  12. It's your subdomain/cpanel I just set mine up and that's what it gave me.
  13. I got tried out a mux called 3030MUX, is that the same thing as a Mud?
  14. When I saw that I was balkin' at the design, but I was reading IGN they said just playing the simple pong-esque demos the controller felt extremely natural. I guess I'm willing to reserve judgement until I actually try it out though.
  15. You mean they're not making a DVD version of it? I would have assumed that would be their biggest money maker. I am thoroughly surprised. I guess they want to make it a so-called "Killer-App" (even though it's not an app in the least). I can't imagine anyone who would buy a PSP just to watch that movie...well, ok. I can think of one.
  16. With a quick google search, I found some options. First thing I noticed was the CoolPad. It's not a powered cooling pad, but just something props up the bottom to about a 20 degree angle (which I prefer when working on my laptop anyway!) and that increases the airflow, which is severly hampered when actually your laptop is used in your lap. Next thing I found was the Evercool Notebook Cooling Pad. It is a USB powered unit with four fans and a custom speed control for 19 dollars. After that I ran across a four page review of the Serina Cooling Pad. The cool thing about one (no pun intended) is that it is also a card writer and a USB hub with 3 (only 3?) extra USB 2.0 ports. This one has only 3 fans though, with a speed control wheel. It connects to the USB port on your laptop, but only for HUB purposes. The power is provided by the AC adapter. The review site has a lot of good photos. One more that I found was pretty much the same as above except no card reader, 4 USB ports, only 2 fans, and is USB powered, but can also be AC powered (and the AC will power the Hub ports). That link is also a review and the reviewer notes that it is near silent and no discernable vibration. This website has a lot of cooling pads, stands, and lapdesks to choose from with many designs. This offering is something different without fans, employing a "heat-pipe" design with unique pipe-style heatsinks. It uses no power. I hope this has been helpful, I'm going to consider one myself.
  17. After a couple of season of "split championships" (different No. 1 ranked teams in the AP poll and USA Today Coaches' poll) people have been complaining that the Bowl Championship Series doesn't work and this led to the AP poll pulling out of it.These people are plain wrong. There are some problems with the BCS but its not broken. The reason that many people say this is because there are more than three undefeated teams and one gets left out of the championship. Unfortunately the goal of BCS was never to make sure all undefeated teams have a chance to play for te championship.First let's review what the BCS is supposed to accomplish. The BCS is supposed to determine the best two teams in the country and pit those two teams against each other in the Championship. The BCS, ever since its inception, has tried to tweak the way it determines the top two teams because people had misconceptions about the purpose of the poll. This has led to inclusion and elimination of various factors including "margin of victory" (by how many points you win) "strengthing of schedule" (how tough your schedule is based on your opponents' win-loss record and your opponents' opponents' win-loss record), and "quality wins" (up to -.25 for defeating teams ranked in the top 10 of the BCS). Last year the move was to eliminate all of that and take the average of the AP poll, Coaches' Poll, and Computer Poll Average (of six computer polls). It is the same this year, except that the AP Poll dropped out and the new Harris Poll replaced it.At the end of the year the top two teams in the BCS play each other in the championship. The top two teams are based purely on who is ranked in the top two. The BCS determines the top two teams regardless of whether or not any teams are undefeated or what their records are. That's all fine and dandy, but I think it could be a little better, but not in a way anyone else would expect. Right now, as I said, it determines the top two teams based on the average of three things: 2 human polls and an average of 6 computer polls. The problem I have with this is that it is 66.6% human polls. This makes no sense, because what are AP sports writer and coaches? Human, and humans are biased! I think that computer polls should be the only polls used because only a computer is unbiased. Now I know you'll tell me, but those computer polls are compiled with Human imput and coding. Well it doesn't matter because as long as the same algorithm is applied to every team, then it is fair.In fact, to make the BCS even more apt at selecting the two best teams, Margin of Victory, Strength of Schedule, and Quality Wins should be re-introduced. These are all valid factors in determining which two teams are the best. Because, who cares if the top rated team wins, if it's only by a point against [random-direction] state? Or who cares if a team's win-loss record is 11-0 or 10-1 if they never played a ranked team? And we all know that when you beat a team that is ranked in the top ten, you deserve some credit.(Note about quality wins: if you beat a team that is ranked in the top 10 one week, you recieve your credit the next week, but if by the end of the season that team is out of the top 10, you no longer recieve the -.25)We don't need a playoff, we just need to adjust the BCS and remove the human polls.
  18. Allow me to third it! I'm using an AMD laptop as well (Athlon 64 3400+) and it gets so warm! I've only heard of cooling pads? Who has experience with them? HTML_Guru, you wouldn't be using something from eMachines m68xx? would you?
  19. Actually Gmail has always been javascript (by default, you can run an HTML by option). I always thought that when you leave a gmail window open and it auto updates (refreshes) it was doing that with javascript.
  20. (Ridge racer on DS and PSP respectively) You're joking right? DS's graphics aren't even in the same league as the PSP! An n64 game had to be dumbed down just to be ported to the DS (Super Mario 64) while the PSP plays ps2 games like Madden and Burnout beautifully. (Madden 06 on DS and PSP respectively) The DS touchscreen is a gimmick that was never implimented very well in any games. Anyone who spends quality time with both systems can see each one is better easily. (Burnout Legends on DS and PSP respectively) You can tell which system is better just by looking at which games each system has. Anyone who thinks the DS is better has been locked up since before the PSP has launched.
  21. To say that all windows software is 32bit is incorrect. Most is, but not all.
  22. Gmail has two new features the First of which is very important! "Auto-save We spent 20 minutes writing this entry, and then the browser crashed. Good thing there's auto-save. It saves. Automatically. Export contacts Export your Gmail Contacts and save them in a file for back-up or to use in another account or serviceâgreat if you're using Gmail's free POP access." Auto-save is a feature that is near and dear to my heart as I've countlessly lost e-mails and blog entries and documents to different reasons. I want to add my appreciation for Gmail Drive. If only someone would write a program like that for http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. It would be 37.5% harddrive increase for me!
  23. Macs are for liberals and who runs fat32 anymore? I really don't think I'll ever pay for linux though. I'm kinda meh on it anyway. I can't even ndiswrapper my way into setting up wireless on this laptop and so I've put it aside. I like the potential for Vista. I'm running beta 1 right now. I want the full feature set though, then I'll be a pure Micro$oft fan. Too bad Win FS isn't running well. Since the AMD64 chip can execute x86 instructions natively, Microsoft should have included the option for those to be passed to the chip without going through the WOW64 emulation layer.
  24. I just got this laptop a couple of months ago for only 800(!) and it is freakin' sweet:AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (2205 mhz)80 GB harddrive512 MB RAMATI Radeon Mobility 9600 (weakest part, too bad it's integrated)AC97 Mobo audioWindows XP Professional 64-Bit Edition/Suse 9.3 x84_64As you can see it spec's out pretty nice but the problem with this thing is physical quality. The AC plug broke (the end that goes into the computer) and I had to hack it to attach a new tip. The hinges are floppy. The screen flickers when the AC adapter is coming loose. The battery is loose. Fortunately I haven't had to deal with the largest reported issue of the hinge covers cracking, but then it's only been a couple of months. You get what you pay for.Don't buy any of the eMachines m68xx series (all the same except for processor). They're made with the same Arima "K8-Shadow" outer shell. Also the same for Gateway 75xx series (gateway owns eMachines).
  25. If you own a PSP then this is a must own. If you have played Burnout 3 and loved the new feel for the game than be prepared to be shocked. In my opinion. Burnout Legends is a perfect port of the new and improved burnout system featured in burnout 3. Mind you it is not a port of Burnout 3 itself. Instead you have a "best of" from the first 3 games. You get the developer favorites of tracks and cars combined with the Burnout 3 system to make one awesome game. You definately do not lose the sense of speed that is in the console version, but at first you might wreck more often as you get used to catching objects in the distance. Since it's a portable you have a smaller screen and that makes distant objects tough to spot at first, but you get used to it. The only thing on wishlist they left off is online competition. However they did make local wireless play as easy (and inexpensive!) as ever. This is one of the first games to take advantage of the Game Sharing feature. This allows anyone else who doesn't own a copy of the game to download a track and car to their system and use it to play a local wireless game with the game owner. How cool is that? If you're already a Burnout fan than you'll love having it on the go. If you haven't played burnout than this game is fast, fun, and hard to put down. Give it a shot.
