1. It even has operating gull-wing doors! That is sick. He made a couple of spoof magazine covers, and if you look at one of them, it appears he also made "Kit", the car from Knight Rider. I remember when I played with legos when I was young. They say that legos are one of the best brain toys to have around for children. It furthers their creativity, ability to solve problems, etc. I don't know if it worked that magic on me though
2. That reminds me of what happened to John Kerry's daughter when she went to the Cannes Film Festival in France. She was walking on the red carpet and she had on a black dress and apparently it wasn't very thick. You couldn't see anything until the flashbulbs started going off. It soon became painfully obvious that she wasn't wearing a bra. How nice of her to be showing off the twins while daddy is trying to win a Presidential Election. Anyway, What they have isn't true see-thru, but actually relection of infrared light. You couldn't look directly through their lens and see anything yourself. You would have to have a device that would create a visible picture, since humans can't see infrared.
3. The problem with flash based pages is mainly that their content won't get indexed by search engines. I think that when a page is completely flash it is really disadvantage for the creater and the user.
4. I like gamespot okay, but the much better gaming website is IGN.com. Both websites offer a pay-for-premium content system. I ended up going with IGN just because of their awesome features like "Gaming life in Japan" And "Head to Head". Both of these featured High resolution videos that you could watch full-screen, no problem. Head to Head compared the same game across the different consoles and told you which console had the best experience for that game. They also had a lot of good developer interviews and stuff like that. The best benefit is the online communities. That have a ton of message boards. They have a message board for almost every system out there and it is quality stuff. Everyone on those message boards is paying to access it, so that gives you an idea of the quality. I suppose my summation is really fair, considering that I've never experienced gamespot's premium content, but going strictly by appearance, IGN comes off as far more professional.
5. This whole time, I was opporating under the assumption that I wasn't stupid. I can't believe I was so wrong.
6. I see what he was saying. Save it to your desktop and right-click for properties and click the summary tab. Under the property "Creation Software" it says Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Windows. Interesting.Anyway I think it's awesome and I don't see why you would need to make it smaller. I think it's good at that size. You did a good job.
7. I have to recomend a Neuros They have to have the most complete set of features of any MP3 player I've seen. You can get an 80 gig for only 299. It has an on-board mic, for bootlegging your favorite shows to MP3 or even lossess WAV format. And it has a FM tuner that you can record straight to the player with. It's USB 2.0. It plays MP3, WMA, WAV, AND OGG! The collest feature has to be though, if you are listening to a song on the radio and you like it, but you don't know what it is, hit a certain button to record a 30 sec. sample and when you go home and sync up, it'll compare the 30 second sample to an online database and tell you what the song is! It'll also do it for songs you hear externally, just use the onboard mic. How kick a' is that!? Looks like they don't even make it anymore because they've selling the 80 gig model on closeout and I can't find anything else. They've moved on to the portable media player the Neuros 422. Has a large screen for veiw videos and such.
8. I got real excited about this game when I saw the commercial, but I'm afraid my video card can't handle it. Pretty much like all the newest games. I can't play Battlefield 2, or Call of Duty 2, or probably this.
9. Yahoo's "SmallBusiness" division is having a sale on domain names. You can get one for 2.99/yr. and pay upto 5 years in advance. This offer ends on 10/31/05 Normally they charge 9.95 with fairly often sales at 4.95, but 2.99 is rare for them. If you want to take advantage of the the sale go to https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/. I did, and I like it. You can't change your DNS until they determine the domain has propegated. Mine did overnight though. It also says it'll auto-renew on the creditcard in a year (I only signed up for the 1 year), and that'll probably be at the full price. Overall though, I think it's a good deal. You can pay 14.95 to register your domain for 5 years. That's a good deal.
10. Is it a real BBS that I have to dial into with my modem? What's the number?
11. On first reaction, I agree. Seems like life in prison would be a slow form of torture. I'd lose my freaking mind after spending half a life time in jail. But then I look at what happens in court. It's interesting how many people plea down to life, so the don't have to have the death penalty. Somehow, when you're in that situation, when you've been caught and are facing sentencing, when you know you're guilty. Spending the rest of your life somehow appears better than just ending it quickly. To me the whole thing probably becomes something like and near-death-experience. You realize, "Hey! I really might be put to death!" It's a whole nother feeling (I'm sure, but I wouldn't know!) than what we think of, sitting here and speculating. Do life-sentence prisoners without parole really change all that much once they are in jail? I don't know. Do the people who were facing the death penalty and plead down make a difference from their cell? I don't know. Is there ever a shawshank redemption-esque enlightenment and improvement? I doubt that. Do I believe in the death penalty as a valid punishment? Yeah. For Drugs? Probably not. But I do have to point out the effect it has on those Asian countries that have that option open for the judge. It doesn't curtail the huge organized crime gangs, but it cuts down. the small time street guys alot. Worth it? I don't know. I know that I did do things that would have landed me the death penalty if I had been doing them in those Asian countries that do that (though I've moved on). So that right there makes it hard for me to decide if it's worth it. Maybe, you get to punish the druggers but save on the prison overpopulation? I believe it's a good one for killers and such. The only problem is that we'll never stop those "heat-of-the-moment" killers. How many times have you been angry and done something you regreted? You didn't kill anyone, but that's how some murders happen. How many times in those moments did you think of the consequences when you did the wrong thing? Me neither. Neither do the killers who make the "angry-mistakes." Sometimes this is a reason for a lesser sentence. How does that make sense? It may not be premeditated, but when "heat-of-the-moment" killings are not given lesser sentences, it might cut back on them. One last thing I have to talk about is a irresponsible statement in this thread Excuse me? You mean if I am in poverty than I'm not responsible for my actions? Poverty is never the reason for a crime. People making choices are reasons crime happens. That has to be one of the most socially irresponsible suggestions I have seen in a while.
12. Oh I wish you wouldn't display such an ignorant view of the software development process. I'm not exactly the pro-microsoft guy so forgive the apologetics, but the whole idea of "releasing software after it's finished" is a whole bunch of bull. Software is constantly being improved. Look how often open-source software is updated or new versions are available for download. Most serious Linux distros have an update system: apt-get, portage, yast... But I'm willing to best that you wouldn't slam them, only the big evil Microsoft. The software is not incomplete, features are just added. What's the difference between an update and a service pack? A name. That's about it. The popular open-source alternative to Internet Explorer, Firefox has new versions released often. What's the diference between that and what Microsoft does with service packs? One is a whole new program, one modifies an existing program. More often than not, the "whole new program" is just like the older one except for a few updates. The only difference is installing a whole program to get them. So it in essence the same thing as what Microsoft does. Does that make Firefox incomplete? No, just means there's an improvement. The day your software is complete is the day you're a stale programmer.
13. What are you talking about? It's already been through alpha. Typical Development stages: I) Pre alpha II) Alpha III) Beta IV) Release Candiate(s) V) Release
14. yeah...look at the rise of hot topic and emo and etc....ugh
15. As a college student, I cannot let facebook.com stay off this list. It's like myspace some what. But the design is cleaner and it's a college-only network. You must have a email with a school domain in order to join.
16. You're kidding, right? You realize this is older than old, don't you?
17. Thanks alot for the suggestion. I decided to use MovableType though because I have blogged with it in the past. I think I've converted the templates to my liking. Take a look: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
18. Yes this is true for me as well. I've been using this for about a month now and I love it! Not only can you integrate RSS feeds, but other "Modules" from google and other websites. I have my Gmail inbox, The latest 3 Ask-Yahoo questions, a google-news search on the Tennessee Volunteers, the RSS feed for ESPN's college football news, local weather, and google-news Technology headlines. This is only a small sampling of what they offer. There have been similar offerings from google's competitors for a long time, but none have ever been as flexible as this. Google is certainly coming into its own as a web-portal, not just a search. This personalized start page is a huge leap.
19. Sorry I can only offer suggestions, not any help. I you should created your Instant Messaging program in the same vein as Trillian, i.e. it should be cross-network compatible. Since I'm no programmer, your suite sounds like a large undertaking. Are you going at this to sell commercially or is it just something you can say "Hey, I did it!" about? If it's just for kicks, I'd suggest making it free (as in free beer and free speech) under a GNU/GPL license. You could take it a step further and make it open. Open software that is good tends to attract programmers like insects to porch lights. This can be a big benefit because you grow a community and it works together to produce not only an excellent product, but a competative one.
20. That's the one 1064326761[/snapback] I can attest to bootvis' excellent help. When you first start it, you have to set it to "track" and do a reboot for it to get a look at what your computer does while it is booting. When that is done, it starts when windows starts and you can select "Optimize" and it'll change some settings (which I'm not sure) that will do good things for your boot time. It's actually no longer available from Microsoft's website, but you can download it at MajorGeeks.com. Here's a direct link to their download page. Also, Make sure you are running Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. Together these make the best way to combat the spyware that is most likely loading when Windows starts and eat up valuable resources while you're trying to do other things on your computer.
21. What are you talking about? You know that the PS2 was a 128-bit console right? Anyway, to continue on the original question posed by this thread. It truely too early to tell. From what I've seen, the XBOX 360 offerings look pretty sweet. I cannot wait to play Madden '06 for XB360. There's a lot of true images of next-gen console systems out there now and it looks really really good. What about Battlefield 2 for 360, and Call of Duty 2 for 360? That'll kick lots of you know what. The best thing about XB 360 is the pre-existing user network on XB Live. That's just the XB 360. I am looking forward to the PS3. I've loved what sony has done so far and I don't see any reason for that to change.
22. This is anything but new. They've been out for a while now. Your less-than-informative post forgot to mention the most important part of this notebook: The Turion processor is in most of the Ferrari notebooks. It's a 64-bit Mobile processor. It's an attempt by AMD to answer the low-voltage, thin notebook Centrino processor. Unfortunately the one you link to is more of a piece than the others in the Ferrari line as it lacks the Turion. They are certainly expensive but with great specs to boot!
23. I listen to talk radio all the time and when I can't sleep there is a late night/early morning show on called "Coast to Coast AM". They talk about all sorts of abnormal stuff like Aliens, UFOs, Government/Corporate Conspiracies, Obscure Religions and Spirtualities, Out-of-body experiences, etc. Recently they had a guest on who was supposed to be a highly "respected" (by whom, I am not sure) Crptozoologist. He discussed the existence (or lack there-) of the mysterious, mystical, and mythical creatures discussed above by you and others. He tried to explain some evidence, and while I can't remember it specifically and I can remember that at the time I thought his "evidence" was pretty sketchy.
24. Allow me to echo the opinion of content before all else. As far I have seen, content is the end all, be all of web sites. If you have good content then you will keep your readers coming back. Take my college football site: I Know College Football Aside from the self promotion, what you'll notice is that there is little to no involved design. Yet I pull many visitors from MSN search and Google because of my content. They come back because that content is respectable and fresh (except for the past week). The proviso is that your content should be easily accessible. This is done with the deployment of a search and archives. I believe that's why blogs have taken off. They give you all of that in an easy-to-do system. More often than not, I've seen site with good content take off in spite of a mind-blowing (or even just good) design. Design is icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
25. Have you ever seen the movie "Lawnmower Man"? The beginning shows people using a system just like this. There were connectors at the temples of your head that fed all the "virtual reality" data into your brain so everything was "real". All the touching, pain, etc, as well as the death, were expressed by your actual body (or more so in the brain since even when those things happen in real life it all happens in the brain).
