  1. guy, the number of planets in the solar system may not matter to you, but it certainly matters to astronomers. As for the goverment holding back, which government are you talking about? The U.S. government [NASA] recently came out with new plans for moon and Mars missions.
  2. I would assume you could simply specify a class for each area with <area class="whatever" ... but I used a different method in my dealings of this sort. I would refer to the tutorial I wrote a while back about CSS image rollovers, but it appears it's been deleted. If you want to see how I did it, look at the source code of http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Note that I didn't use the area tag, but rather specified a position in the style attributes. That having been said, using Areas might be easier. I have yet to test that method, however.
  3. Several people I used to know were infected with these viruses. It's an interesting way to find out whose buddy lists you're still on.
  4. I beat them both, also. There are several more good flash games like this. One of my favorites is The Mystery of Time and Space. It's a lot longer than Crimson Room, and better produced, in my opinion. These games, intriguing as they are, can be so utterly frustrating.
  5. This reminds me of the Elian Gonzales controversy in the United States a few years ago. The only big difference is that this Casey will probably die if they send him back.
  6. stream-1, it would take a lot of practice coding simple applications before you could even begin to consider coding an operating system. I'm talking years, here.xboxrulz, you're not claiming that Linus ripped off Minix, are you? The dude who invented Minix has publicly cleared him of this charge. I think it's more of an "inspired by" situation.
  7. Not only is this entire article plagiarized, but: ... it's from over a year ago!
  8. 1) What brand of computer do you have? (put homemade if you built it yourself) I have a Compaq, although I think the dude from whom I obtained this computer may have done some custom stuff to it. 2) What Operating System do you use? I generally use Windows XP, though I use a live Knoppix CD whenever an occasion calls for it. 3) What browser do you use? I use Firefox most of the time, unless I need to use a site which requires a plugin not available for Firefox. In that case, I use Internet Explorer, and I also use IE to test my web design. 4) What E-mail client do you use? Thunderbird. 5) What multimedia program do you use? (e.g. WinAmp, WMP) I use Winamp for music, Windows Media Player for movies, Real Alternative for Realplayer files, Quicktime Alternative for Quicktime files, and VideoLAN for anything that can't be played by those. 6) What Word Processor do you use ?(office, openoffice.org) OpenOffice.org 7) What anti-virus program do you use? None. Unless I REALLY want to download an executable from a peer network, then I scan it with the free online scanner available at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ 8) What anti-spyware program do you use? None.
  9. I don't know how you could have run Windows 95/98 for any significant period of time without encountering many errors. I suppose if you had top-notch hardware, took good care of your file system, and never taxed it with too many processes, then maybe I could see how you suffered few errors. Otherwise, I'd have to see it to believe it.
  10. You mean, besides asking him/her for more information?
  11. The green links in the first template clash with the rest of the colors, and I think the body text could use more padding/margin.The second template could also more padding/margin, and the red background color of "Eric Meyers" does not jive well with the rest of the page. I also do not care for the little white strips to the left of each link.Overall, I would say that these are good-looking templates, and the latter two are good applications of the a:hover pseudo-class. I think you'll find that adding more space between the text and the sides of the div provide a cleaner look.
  12. I think that the first sig could use more contrast. The image and the text are a little difficult to make out at first sight. The third one is not blended well enough, in my opinion. It looks like three disparate elements rather than one unified image. The Samus sig is your best, though I have to agree with Macace8, the noise around the text looks out of place. I'm going to guess that the noise around your handle was intentional, but that the slight noise around Samus was unintentional. Maybe you had some trouble extracting the image from its background? That part gets easier as you develop your Photoshop skills, so no worries.
  13. If nobody raises a fuss when preventable tragedies occur, then they will continue to occur.
  14. Sarah81, some would argue that Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell serve as protection buffers from claims of Republican racism. I'm not claiming that the two are not competent or that Bush is racist, but rather that having people of color in his administration serves his own interests, regardless of how he personally feels about blacks. enve19, wtf is a t****r? The vast majority of people trapped in New Orleans were black. This is a verifiable fact. People with means escaped New Orleans, leaving the poor. Poor white people were trapped also, but in much smaller numbers.
  15. You people who say Microsoft Office is "the best": have you used OpenOffice.org, Star Office, Word Perfect and all of the other popular word processing programs for any significant amount of time? Or are you just singing the praises of the one program you know?Calling anything "the best" implies that you have tried all of the others. If you haven't, then your words mean nothing.
  16. Your problem probably lies in the table code. I'm sure you could fix it if with minimal adjustments after you found the problem, but...If I were you, I'd redo the whole thing in CSS. You can absolutely position all the images and use the a:hover pseudo-class to create rollovers instead of using all that javascript. Then, not only would your white space problem be solved, but people with javascript disabled could see your effects as well. Some people at Xisto have written tutorials on a:hover menus, and I recently wrote one on a:hover rollovers with images, so those might help you if you're interested in solving your problem that way.
  17. That's not all true, and some of it is easily disproved. For instance: Assuming that you meant "The longest word that can be typed with the left hand only without leaving the home keys", the pluralized form of the word, stewardesses, is two letters longer. But for all we know, the longest could be something else entirely. This one reeks of pseudo-science. Together, maybe. But I've heard of girls as young as 6 giving birth. Wrong. Ever see a chimp masturbate? I was on an elementary school field trip at the zoo, when I saw one off in the corner takin' care of bidness, as it were. Obviously, if an animal is masturbating or engaged in homosexual congress and it is smart enough to know that it's not having regular sex, then it can be assumed that the goal is pleasure. For a well-written introduction to animal homosexuality, I present a link. This is simply too vague to be true in any meaningful sense of the word. For instance, Kevlar was invented by Stephanie Kwolek from DuPont. Did she invent bullet-proof vests? Nope. Kevlar vests aren't the only kind of bullet-proof vests, anyway! The Archduke Franz Ferdinand was wearing a silk bullet-proof vest when he was shot in the neck by Black Hand. There were boilerplates in the old west and all manner of bullet-proofing, mostly by men, since bullets were invented. If you're interested in zany facts which are also, coincidentally, TRUE, I suggest you visit http://www.straightdope.com/. Cecil will take real good care of you.
  18. Gamerchick, if the president declares a state of emergency, he can do just about anything he wants without congressional deliberation.Personally, I am torn between blaming the inept FEMA officials and President Bush, who appointed those inept officials because they shared his ideology, rather than having any practical experience. And let's not forget that about the slashed budget for the levees. If they had been properly maintained, New Orleans would probably be fine right now, but as a Jefferson Parish emergency management chief, Walter Maestri, said, "It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay."
  19. I don't think the "quote" button works anymore.Anyways, some of you guys keep referring to OpenOffice.org's competition with Microsoft. Keep in mind that it is NOT a competition in the market sense of the word. Nobody is profitting financially from OOo. Microsoft is the only party with anything to lose, here.Somebody else mentioned that there are no other word processors for Linux. This is untrue. I'm sure there are several other popular word processors, and a host of other word processors that nobody cares about.Personally, I use OpenOffice.org, having switched a few years ago from Microsoft Office. I was especially impressed with OOo's PDF exportation. OOo lacks in a few areas, however. It doesn't have a grammar checker. When I composed essays in French or Spanish, I used Word's grammar checker to help me find errors. This is not an option in OOo, however. Not even in English. Another feature I appreciated in Word was the auto-recover feature. OOo doesn't have this, either. All that having been said, OOo v. 2.0 is supposed to have a lot of new useful features. And though I haven't checked, someone told me that it will have grammar checkers.
  20. Mercury Messenger is too cluttered for my liking. There's only so much information I want to absorb at a given moment, which is why I prefer Trillian and Gaim. And I definitely wouldn't give up my trusty Sygate firewall.Unfortunately, every chat program I have so far used has at least one fatal flaw. Gaim is buggy, Trillian only allows plaintext profiles, AIM is unstable and contains annoying advertising, and there are plenty of others which simply do not allow me to connect to the AIM network (where all my friends are). Why doesn't Mercury allow AIM buddy lists?
  21. I'm pretty sure the press would understand, Unimatrix, what with it being a national disaster and all
  22. I assumed it was Russian, but all those Eastern European languages sound the same to me.
  23. What I instantly thought after viewing this video was "Somebody is going to make a YTMND about this." And sure enough, http://bushdoesntcare.ytmnd.com/ For those of you who are unfamiliar, YTMND stands for "You're the man now, dog!" an awkward line spoken by Sean Connery in "Finding Forrester". The creators of YTMND.com put up a simple page featuring the quote and sound-clip. Now, anyone can use their formula to display whatever weird or awkward moment they choose.
  24. At one points it sounds like he's saying, "Pizza! Kirgyzistan! Fagoigle!"
