  1. yes, but if we've disabled Messenger due to the Messenger spam net send is of no use. BorgChat is quite good, you can send files, have multi-user chats, private chats and there's even a forum for your network built-in! It also allows you to make other people's processor beep. I think it requires Windows though.... so no good for Linux users. http://borgchat.10n.ro//
  2. Never use a big host like Lycos, Tripod or Geocities. Bad features, slow and ads!
  3. I don't need to worry about anything like this: I have 1.5GB of RAM (look at my sig!) + 128MB graphic memory.
  4. Nothing new - it's being possible to run Mac/Darwin on a X86 for years, using PearPC.
  5. I don't know any actual figures but Google shows 1,100,000 web pages from the site MySpace. This number won't be very accurate though.
  6. I hate the EasyCD light tat that comes with most external CD writers in England! JUNK!
  7. Well, I joined yesterday - so this is sort of a belated welcome. I joined here to get an account with Xisto, for my new project, but was amazed with the content. The forum here is amazing; high quality. I'm from the north of England, not Scotland, the north of England (one American I met got confused). I already own a website and blog. My interests include Firefox, computers, open-source and internet. I'm a self-proclaimed nerd, that's it.
  8. In the EU the legal system is probably going to be Grokster ruling gone made! They are considering banning us even inciting piracy, just like inciting terror; a breach of free speech!
  9. 1 Windows 98 Desktop. with HP officejet v451 Windows XP/Ubuntu Desktop. with HP Photosmart 7200(sometimes) 1 Windows 2000 laptop
  10. I have a LinkSys WAG54G V.2 . It is very good - both WiFi and wired - very simple admin too. It is simple to set up port forwarding and really easy to secure your network. It also let's you block sites on the network level, as well as Java, ActiveX and cookies. You can even deny certain computers access to the network on certain days! It also has VPN.A very good router - but a little pricey.
  11. I must admit SphereXP is good, I have it. But it does take up alot of CPU power and RAM, even on a Athlon 64 3400+ with 1.5GB DDR400 RAM it's slow! (128MB ATI Radeon Graphics (on top of memory and 250GB HD).
  12. I simply love Winamp. Loads of plug-ins, loads of skins, loads of users, secure, loads of file support (DRM!).
  13. There are many VoIP providers on the market - Skype is one of the most popular, though not the cheapest for landline calls. VoIPBuster offers free 1 minute calls to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the United Kingdom and the United States. It used to be free for as long as you want, but it was abused so now you have to pay €1 for unlimited free calls. The service is in beta and may go commercial. As for gaming, it will reduce your speed, but if it is noticable or not depends on your connection.
  14. One really good HTML editor is Nvu. It is based around the old Netscape/Mozilla Composer - but has far more features in a lovely... cleaner... interface. It has just gone out of beta, and is really popular, it is the primary HTML editor for Linux, fairly popular with Mac users and gaining popularity with Windows users. Some screenshots are here.
  15. I have quite a few bones to pick with your site. It doesn't have any major errors in Firefox (1.0.6 EN-US), which I can see. I don't like how your site is frame-based. Many browsers do not support this, and not even all your site uses the same design (the screenshot page isn't frame-based, but the menu's on the top). You don't have a consistent colour scheme either. Also, it's not a wise idea to place music on pages, partly as it is most likely © theft. Another reason why it's not wise is for 56k viewers it will take donkeys to load. Your Teamspeak and chatbox don't go with the colour scheme either, this could probably fixed with some basic CSS. Frontpage isn't the best HTML editor on the web. The free and open-sourceNVU offers more flexibility and better support for CSS etc. It's worth noting it will probably make pages aimed more at Firefox users due to the simple fact it uses the Mozilla gecko, however this shouldn't cause any problems for IE users. Your site really needs improving - no offense!
  16. They could probably run that site on the world's smallest server http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. To me, it looks way smaller than a stamp; but that's due to my resolution probably (1024x768), plus a stamp in England is a different size .
  17. Lots of rumour is going round the blogosphere at the moment that Technorati, the tagging search engine for blogs, could be for sale. B.L. Ochman reported this here. I wrote an article too at my blog, but who do you think will buy it, if anyone? Top contenders are Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google; though some hope AltaVista buy it .
  18. UltraVNC is a far better client. It allows you to open VNC sessions in a web browser (via. java) so you can access your machine on nearly any machine. UltraVNC also has file-transfer between both computers and a chat facility - which is great if you're using it to teach people how to use a computer!
