I myself have tried dualbooting with windows XP and Windows Vista. I've never run into any problems with vista during boot or directly after boot. I'm assuming that you're either using RC2 or RTM. The only problem I've ever run into on either of those builds is a slow login. Anyway, the retail seems to have somewhat fixed that problem. Also, the problems that you've described could possibly be hardware related. Some other computers that i've tried vista on had the same problems except the motherboards and cpu were older.

Windows Vista Beta 2 Public Release
issdiscovery04 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Vista is somewhat decent right now when you compare it to previous product launches like Windows XP. However, if you know what your doing with computers, then vista is great. You'll just have to modify a handful of Vista's main system files. Of course this is tedious and annoying. Vista still isn't very good for playing games though. -
Help With Ram not all memory being used
issdiscovery04 replied to bluefish1405241537's topic in Hardware Workshop
If your laptop ever recognized 448mb of ram then your 192mb stick probably burned out. If 448 never appeared in the system menu then something may be incompatible on your motherboard. If the stick didn't burn out(haven't personally seen this yet), then knowing the motherboard brand or laptop brand and the brand of the two sticks would be helpful. Also, the manufacturing year of the laptop would be useful if you know it. -
@artifestoM$ Flight Simulator is not worth $60. Flight Simulator X is just about as bad as the previous Flight Simulator (i forgot what version it is). They've added more planes and locations and they've made the graphics better. However, I just don't like Flight Simulator X and its price tag makes it a bigger ripoff.

Hey kdg2006, what's your tag for battlefield 2142?Anyway, in BF2142 the mecs are hard to kill but it is actually possible to kill mecs with a normal machine gun. If anyone is desperate enough to try this please use the support kit. On the underside of the walker near the rear, there are a few ventilation ducts. Shooting these ducts are the best way to kill a walker without using a demopack.Battlefield2142 really has the potential to become one of the best multiplayer shooters on the market. However, EA has a habit of releasing many patches. In every battlefield game, each patch usually just made the game worst. Hopefully EA doesn't add to their very long and rather bad track record.

How To Play Mac Games On Windows And Vice-versa
issdiscovery04 replied to nhlgoalie2003's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You would really have to specify exactly what games and its developer. Since many developers make games, they usually all make them differently. Some games are more adaptable than other, some are less stable, some are more stable, etc. It would really be helpful if you would specify what you are trying to port from Windows or Mac. (Then there are some that just aren't worth the effort) -
I personally would really want to rule Dell out. I've had bad experiences with every single Dell computer I've used and I've had to deal with a lot of them. Dell laptops are not the way to go if you don't like downtime. HP, toshiba, and Alienware are much better than Dell. From Alienware, a Area-51 m5550 should be able to fit into your budget. If not, a dv6000t from HP or a Satellite P100-ST1072 isn't a bad choice either.

Windows Vista Beta 2 Public Release
issdiscovery04 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
As of right now, Vista just isn't worth it. From past M$ experiences, never buy any product on launch. If anyone is interested in Vista, wait until a service pack comes out. Hopefully they'll have some of the large problems fixed. Unfortunately, M$ rarely fixes problems without creating more at the same time.Anyway, if anyone wants to get Vista now, go to newegg.com or some other online retailer and get Windows Vista Ultimate (OEM). The OEM disks for ultimate are only $200 and they work. -
lol. The new knife does give you a better shot at killing people though since the knife is bigger than the standard one and you get a second way of moving the knife. Other than that you get nothing.
-
Vista just isn't worth $200+ yet. M$ still has to work out many more problems with Vista (especially in Ultimate). As of now, some Directx 10 installations are having problems and Vista is still rather limited in regards to video cards. Crossfire and SLi are not supported in Vista just yet. This wasn't nVidia or ATI's fault since M$ kept changing many key components in Vista.

Taking the equipment of killed people is nothing new. This feature has been around since BF2. What I really like is how if you knife kill someone, you get their dogtags. Also, if you knife kill more than 50 people, you get a new knife. My only problems with the game is that titan mode lags at above 48 people and sometimes the spawn beacons cannot be destroyed.Other than that I find BF2142 much more addicting and fun than BF2. (Too bad they didn't enable orbital strike in Titan mode.)My tag is dsc007

Linux "hangs" On Boot
issdiscovery04 replied to dhanesh1405241511's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I myself have had that problem before. Usually, I have just shut down my system and restarted. Of course, hardware does play a role in causing this problem. SATA is probably the WORST for linux. For all types of Linux, SCSI, IDE, or EIDE is preferred. Sometimes chipsets can cause problems too. -
I have both the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. I really can't say which one is better since both consoles are vastly different. Xbox 360 holds its forte in graphics and in some games, gameplay. On the other hand Wii holds its forte in gameplay. Shooters on the wii are absolutely great since the controls feel pretty natural (i.e. actual gun movements). I've actually had the chance to play the PS3 since I do know someone who actually paid 800+ for a PS3. The PS3 is nothing but a waste of money. The graphics aren't great and the gameplay is nothing to be proud of either.

Internet Calls: Pc To Phone Suggestion...
issdiscovery04 replied to Aka_Bar's topic in Websites and Web Designing
As for calling landlines, I agree that skype is the absolute best. They've been spending a lot on upgrading their networks so that calls have better sound quality and they've succeeded for the most part. Unfortunately, Skype out is no longer free. (I like things that are free) Skype still has the best pc to pc voice chats through. The Gizmo project as mentioned by Jimmy89 actually works very well. The quality of the calls come close to the quality of Skype calls. -
I haven't had that problem yet with firefox 2.0.0.1 Sometimes, a reinstall cures problems with firefox. I've had several other issues in the past with firefox 2 such as nonfunctioning tabs, scrambled data, etc. Each time, a reinstall solved the problem. Sometimes, it just depends on your luck since software is rarely perfect in every way. Of course it would be helpful to know what OS your computer is running and/or any patches that may have been installed into the system

The layout and the design of the site is very nice but somethings are somewhat hard to read. The font style and size should be changed. The site comes out fine in both IE and firefox. Also, if you want, you might want to opt for a flash navigation menu or something. I personally like the menus that glow or give some kind of response when you put the mouse over it.

Unless people have way too much money to burn, there really isn't a point to getting an 8 series card from Nvidia. But for those people who want to spend around 400 on a graphics card, the 8800 GTS cards are pretty nice. Personally, I like Nvidia better than ATI. ATI hasn't exactly had the best deals on graphical power when you consider the price. No matter what graphics card people get, they almost always forget to get better cpus, ram, and hdds. Most people just settle with normal IDE. If anyone wants faster responses from games, a crappy IDE connection isn't going to cut it, try going for SATA or SCSI (thats what i have).

P2p Tv - Exciting New Way To Watch Tv On Internet
issdiscovery04 replied to saneax's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm trying to get one those myself. My guess is that these Joost invites will probably have the same result as gmail invites when gmail first started. Trying searching for unused Joost invites on google or something. I'm hoping that there's a site for Joost invites just like the site that had tons of gmail invites. -
What Are The Latest TV Tuner Cards ? Query
issdiscovery04 replied to sandeep1405241520's topic in Hardware Workshop
There aren't any products on the market that can allow users to view digital cable just yet. I think about 7 different tuners are launching sometime in February or March. Most companies are slowly switching to the 'new' technology but some are just taking too much time. Also the Miglia TVMini HD+ is already available on some online retailers. -
Internet Calls: Pc To Phone Suggestion...
issdiscovery04 replied to Aka_Bar's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I've seen many useless pc to phone programs myself. Right now there really aren't any good free clients anymore. 2006 was great since Skype had free calls to any phone within the U.S. I haven't used all of the clients out there but Yahoo Voice (just tried it) and Skype are my two favorites. Too bad they're not free anymore. But with the smaller and 'newer' services, it's wiser to search google, forums, etc for any reviews about the service -
Internet Calls: Pc To Phone Suggestion...
issdiscovery04 replied to Aka_Bar's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Personally, I like to use Skype. I use optimum online w/ Boost so speed really isn't a problem. If you don't want to pay a lot of money for international calls you can try Yahoo Voice (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/). Their international rates are cheaper than most other providers. I haven't personally used the service but I have a few friends that seem to like Yahoo Voice just as much as Skype. Also, if you want you can try internetcalls.com (http://www.internetcalls.com/dashboard/). Since this service is fairly new, it's still in its beta stages. I don't know how good the quality of the calls is though. But right now, internetcalls features free calling to all landline phones in the U.S. and about 15+ others. -
First of all, Punkbuster installs and works on Vista (ever since pre-RC2). Also, most online multiplayer games for the PC use punkbuster but EA does the worst job with implementing PunkBuster. I've played COD2 and you would never know it was ever there. In Battlefield games, one of the first things to greet you is a random PunkBuster kick.Vista only works better when you are actually playing the game but the increase is insignificant. When it comes to stability, Windows 2000 wins hands down. If anyone gets Vista, you'd probably want to wait until M$ releases a service pack.

Ads are actually a very good way to make money. The ads that are posted by google are somewhat well paid but some make money by how many people click on those things. The only down side about the Google ads is that they're quite ugly. If the site is very well designed and looks good, these wouldn't exactly be welcome on that kind of site. If any, I'd recommend the ads that are like videogames, more people try to play them anyway. (I sometimes do so myself)

4 OS On One Computer whats the easiest way?
issdiscovery04 replied to Grafitti's topic in Websites and Web Designing
For running virtual Os's, Parallels processes faster than VMware and Parallels integrates directly into your system hardware unlike VMware
