How To Add A Scripting Language To A Program ?
yungblood replied to yungblood's topic in Programming
If you look at the program mIRC, it has both options, but most people don't want to learn the DLL programming, because it is so much more involved. With scripting, you can usually get more done with less lines of code, and more readable. That's simply because of all the coding you have to do just to setup the DLL, without even adding the coding to add the features you want. Plus with a script, you can just open the script editor, change what you need, save, and test. With DLL's, it add's the extra step of compiling/linking which for something simple, can take alot of time for a beginner. I just want my program to be accessable to everyone that wants to use it regardless of their technical experience. -YB -
Well, it all depends on what you're trying to do.I use Corel Draw v5 for some effects on my webpage, mostly fading from one color to another, and doing simple shapes. I use Paint Shop Pro v6 (It used to be owned by jasc, but corel bought them out) for all my file conversion, and photo touchup and other stuff. I use Xara 3d for all my 3d text.I also have a handful of other programs I use for specific things...But I would recomend trying out various free programs before you decide to drop that kind of money on something like corel draw. If you decide you want to use corel draw, you might see about picking up an old version of it, and if you still need more, then upgrade. It would probably save you money that way.-YB

How To Add A Scripting Language To A Program ?
yungblood replied to yungblood's topic in Programming
First, I agree with what you're saying about the drawbacks. However, I'm looking for this option not to be the norm. I only want to load the script handling if a config file calls a script. I want all the main calls to be to dll's. But I know from experience that people want easy flexibility. I know I can't think of every possibility that people want. And not everyone will want to write a dll just to handle something small. That's why I see adding a scripting language to be the best compromise. And of course, I would put the scripting language engine in the installation package. It wouldn't do to have an install be incomplete. -
How To Add A Scripting Language To A Program ?
yungblood replied to yungblood's topic in Programming
I'm writing in C++ using Borland C++ 5.0.I'd like a common scripting language tied in (ie. TCL, PERL, Python). It doesn't matter to me which one is used, I can work with any of them, and I have those 3 on my computer I'm using to develop this program.I'm making a program to work interactively with MIDI. So I will need the scripting language to handle MIDI & timer events. Here's an example of what I want to do:- Keyboard player plays a note- the core of my program sends out a message like: ----- note-on channel key# velocity timethen a users script does something like this:on note-on: {if (channel == 1) & (key == 35) { delay 100 midi-out note-on channel-2 key-37 velocity-127}I hope you get what I'm trying to do. The actual program I'm writing should be very simple, it will just listen to the MIDI keyboard, and send messages both to user scripts & user programmed DLL's, and have them manipulate the MIDI info, and send it back whatever MIDI out is defined in the core program. I have already started on the DLL's, for faster code. But I want to have the option of a scripting language, to make it quick and easy to experiment with ideas, and for people that don't want to actually learn how to make a DLL.Once everything is in place, the user will be able to open the core program, load a config file that contains all the setup info for the DLL's and scripts, and then start playing.I hope that clears up what I'm trying to do --YB -
What about copyrighted programs that can't be obtained through other means? I remember the hassle I had when I contacted one gaming company to ask for one of there old games. They eventually got me a "replacement" cd for $5 bucks... but that was only after months of trying to find the right person in the company to talk to. --YB

Notice from vujsa: Edited Post! Please do not post email address here or request that help be sent via email. Replies should be made in the form of posts so everyone may learn from your question. Does anyone have any experience adding a scripting language to a program they are writing? I have one project I'm working on that needs a scripting language, and I would like to simply add an existing language to my program. I know how to use Perl, Tcl/Tk, Python, and others... but I don't know how to tie one of them into my program. I know it's possible, but I need help in doing it. If anyone knows how to do what I'm looking for, please reply! EMAIL ADDRESS REMOVED --YungBlood

I like it because it's a fairly easy language to do just about anything on my non-graphic calculator. The biggest problem I find with it is a lack of memory. I figured out a very simple way to program TicTacToe into it with some decent AI, but I was only able to put about 3/4 of the program into the calculator.*sigh* maybe I'll have to steamline the code some more, or figure out some other games I can make that don't require graphics...--YB

I like StarCraft when I just want to kill some time without actually having to think too much. It's really easy, so it's fun for a time killer.--YB

The Hacker's Google A template for the SE - can you read it?
yungblood replied to cyborgxxi's topic in Search Engines
I've seen stuff like that for so many years, I don't even remember the first time I saw it. It had to be well over 10 years ago. Personally, I find that kind of "script" to be annoying to say the least... It may not have been in google back then, but that was around....--YB -
Can a robot be human? Well it all depends on your perspective, and what you call "robot" and "human". If you call a robot, something that can be programmed, well us humans are programmed in several ways. The most direct is "brainwashing" or "hypnotizing", which can be done. Also, programming is a set of instructions, just like what parents give thier children. For Example, if a child is only taught from one source, ie. the bible, it would stand to reason, that the child would behave according to what the bible says. However, when a child learns from many sources, ie. both the bible, and his peers, then the results are unknown. In a simular way, when a computer is given instructions from just one programmer, then that programmer would always know what to expect from the computer. However, when a computer runs programs from many programmers (ones that don't communicate), then the results are unknown. The computer may run fine, or it may crash.Yes, I know that's simplifying the matter abit, however it is still true.If we genetically create animals from scratch, do we try to protect them like the animals already on this earth, or do we treat them like machines simply because we create them? If we create a robot, give it all the knowledge we have, and it goes out and creates a humaniod body for itself using genetics to the point that it can reproduce sexually, would that make it "human"?As my computer programming teacher taught me, no intelligent dicussion can be had without an agreeing on a definition of terms.Do I believe that we can make robots that are able to make decisions for themselves? Given enough time & effort, yes. Do I think that we will have to worry about robots taking over the world? No, because the Bible says "the meek will inherit the earth" (among other passages). No one bent on taking control of the earth will be able to succeed, because Jehovah will not allow it.As far as the comment of the creator being far superiour to the creation, and that humans aren't superiour to a nuclear bomb, well that's an easy question to answer. Humans may have put the pieces together for the nuclear bomb, but they didn't create it. In truth, humans haven't created anything, they merely rearrange what god has given them. Either for thier benefit, or for thier destruction. The Bible says it right when it says "there is nothing new under the sun". All our so-called "progress" is just rearranging what's always been there. The only thing that really sets us humans apart from the rest of creation, is our spiritual aspects. Will robots ever be able to be spiritual, or understand spiritual matters? That remain to be seen. The Original YB!!

So you're saying if I burn Hydrogen, all that it puts out is steam? Then why are so many people worried about burning it... most of what I see is people wanting to convert it using chemistry. I see all these "fuel cell" ideas, which granted for some stuff is good, but for cars, from what I see, fuel cells don't have the "get up & go" that people want. Know of anywhere I can get more info on this? The original YB!!

Which Linux Fuels You?
yungblood replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I use FreeBSD the most. I know some people argue about calling it linux... ok granted, it uses a different license... and a few technical differences... but all the linux software I've needed worked just fine on it... so yea, the ver of *nix that I use the most is FreeBSD :PI'm currently upgrading my system to 5.4 I started with it about 10 years ago, and while I have used many versions of linux & unix, I like the ease of installing FreeBSD to many systems...--The Original YB!! -
Does anyone know of any software that will let me write scripts to interactively control my MIDI keyboard, preferably free? I want to be able to do stuff like:if key pressed < key 24 Play arpeggio...or other ideas along the same lines...I have been searchin' the internet all over, and I haven't found anything that will do this kind of stuff, either free, or commercial.-- The Original YB!

Why complain about the internet when that's not the problem? The internet is a great tool, and although it has some problems, I wouldn't ever want to give it up. If you aren't getting the use out of the internet that you want, sounds like you need to upgrade your tools for accessing the internet (i.e. perhaps better computer, or a better connection to the internet, or possibly even just a better web browser). I am connected to the internet as much as I possibly can, and I wish I could connect even faster. If I had the money, I'd get a connection direct to the backbone of the internet. (of course, that costs thousands of dollars a month...) So don't complain that you can't get stuff from the net, it's ALL out there if you learn how to look.

Drivers Using Cellphone cellphones can maximise accidents
yungblood replied to atm's topic in Science and Technology
I can vouch for one thing, I've gottin' into an accident while I was riding my bicycle, and talkin' on my cell phone with a handsfree device. I wasn't seriously hurt, but it does take part of your mind off the road. I understand why people want to do it, but it does add to the danger of driving (or riding). The original YB!! -
I've been on both sides of the issue. Yes, back when the original napster was up, I downloaded *tons* of music without paying for it. I've also helped to create music for money. So I have seen it both ways. For a balance, I like the priciples behind the laws that have been out there for a long time. The law that says it's legal to record off the air. I love that concept because it takes music that we've already paid for (by listening to the ads) and lets us keep it. Granted, it is at a lower quality, but it's still ours to listen to whenever we want. That way the artist still got paid from all the ads run on the radio, and we get to play it whenever we want. We only had to pay extra when we wanted a professional recording. To me that's what's missing from music on the internet. There is no option that allows us to choose between legally free, and paid for. On the internet, there is no legal way to get commercial music free. I believe there should be free copies of ALL music at a low quality that we can listen to to our hearts content without having to pay for it. Then just charge for the better quality recordings. That way we would be able to sample all the music we want, without having to resort to stealing the music. For those people that are satisfied with low quality, they would be able to have all the music they want free. For those people that want to find music that touches thier soul, they can hunt all they want, and they only have to pay for what they decide they want in a quality recording. It would keep in line with the same legal principles already out there, and would be fair to everyone.I just wish artists got more for thier art. There are too many extremely good artists that barely make it simply because they don't produce "mainstream" music. The Original YB!

Windows Or Linux DEVELOPERS Which OS You Prefer?
yungblood replied to arunkumarhg's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I always prefer Linux to Windows. Ok, before everyone complains that windows is so much easier, let me clarify my statement. With linux, there is a much bigger group of people that are willing to help me when I have problems outside of the common ones. From one complete install of linux, I get so much software for free that would take me months of hunting down, and spending countless dollars were I to try to match it in windows. Anytime I want to start an opensource project, I always have plenty of help from people using linux. Most windows programmers just say "what's opensource?"But my biggest reason for loving programming linux, is that if I want to make a program, there's a good chance that not only is there one simular to what I want to do, but I can see how they did it, so I won't have to spend hundreds of hours figuring it out.The Original YB!! -
Um, I can't laugh, since I love all the pokemon games. I've been collecting them. I also have most of the movies. I good sized collection of pokemon cards. and I have some of the shows recorded on my computer. So, I can't laugh at you, but I will laugh at all the people who don't like pokemon.I admit it, I used to be a closet pokemaniac, but now I've come out of the closet. I openly admit that I totally enjoy pokemon!!!

HazeShow, That is soo right, I have personally seen extremely effecient carburators for cars taken off the market because the OIL companies didn't like them. Imagine driving your car every day for a month, and not seeing your gas level move at all. I know someone who took his car into a shop to have his carburator worked replaced, and they accidently put in an experimental one. He had been having to put gas in his car at least twice a week. Then after they put the new carburator in, he drove for a month without having to get gas, and not even seeing his fuel gauge move. He thought his fuel guage was acting up, so he took his car back to the same shop. They realized what had happened, and "fixed" the problem. A few weeks later, it dawned on him what had actually happened, but by then it was too late, and they professed no knowledge of a carburator that good. It's such a shame that so much fuel has been wasted that didn't need to be.

Hi, I am starting an opensource Midi Squencer / Controller. I have already learned how to get info on all the Midi devices on the system, and I have figured out how to send data to a Midi device. My next step is figuring how to get Midi input. I have been trying everything in the help files, but nothing I have done has worked. I am using the mmsystem.h header for all my low-level Midi communication. It connects to the mmsystem.dll that is standard with windows.... so it should be accessable to anyone with C++. Is there anyone out there that would like to see a quality open source Midi program, and would like to help? I would gladly accept any assistance anyone would like to offer. Please let me know.Sincerely,YB

Hey, I'm trying to write a DLL to hook into mIRC. I've got everything working except the LoadDll & UnloadDll functions. I took the examples right out of the mIRC help file, but I can't seem to get them to work. Has anyone else tried programming for mIRC, and run into this problem? Please help if you have. Btw, I'm using Borland C++ 4.52.Thanx, :lol:YB

I wonder about the possiblilty of using all this desert space that we have. Put abunch of solar panels (or any other technology that converts sunlight/heat into electricity) out there in the desert, and use that power to split the water into hydrogen/oxygen. Since you can run AC a long way without losing all that much power, you could run the power to the water, instead of having to bring the water to the desert. I think that would be much more efficient way of getting hydrogen without poluting the earth anymore than neccesary. Does anyone know how much polution is created from burning hydrogen? I know it does provide alot of power if we could burn it safely in an engine.Though we have known about clean burning alternatives for a long time. Alcohol burns clean, and although it has been experimented with for cars, big business is afraid to stray from petro. I believe that's our biggest issue. We have all kinds of technology that doesn't use limited resourses for fuel, and many of them are very clean. We need to find a way to get the best of these out to the public. I'm picturing something like a car that runs on alcohol or hydrogen, and using a synthetic oil for lubrication. If we do burn the fuel, the public will still be happy with the kinds of performance that the car would get, and the earth would be happier because we would be cutting down on the pollution that we are dumping into the air, earth, and water. We have to decide on a technology that will do this, and use it. All this time that we waste just researching, and not producing is literally killing us all. Why is everyone so scared of these big oil companies? What are these big oil companies going to be able to do when the earth runs out of easy to get oil? What will we do if we don't start shifting to other fuels now, since a sudden absense of petro would grind the whole world to a halt? It would be so much better if we start today producing vehicals that don't use oil.YB

I would like to setup a music studio, and I will need multi channel sound inputs, as well as MIDI. What hardware / Linux ver would be the best for ease, and stability for this kind of professional recording project? I would like a setup that would rival any professional recording studio. The Original YB

Which Linux Is Better Among Redhat & Fedora?
yungblood replied to loganbest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think it all depends on what you want. I just downloaded Fedora Core 4, and I will be installing it over the next few days. I've always enjoyed all flavors of linux, and while some have features others don't, I really couldn't put one over another except for the issue of support. I used to have FreeBSD as my primary server, with redhat and slackware on my 2 secondary servers. They all got along just fine, and I had got it to where you really couldn't tell which ver was which unless you checked. The original YungBlood!
