Why Is Installing Redhat Linux Difficult?
madcrow replied to nidahasa's topic in Websites and Web Designing
It's not as easy as SuSE or Mandrake to install and configure, but it's not exactly hard either... Still, I'd reccomend either of the two distros I mentioned over Fedora/Red Hat any day. -
DVD-ROM is a non-burned format. Rather it gets pressed in a factory. DVD-R is a format that can be created in the home with a burner and can be played in most DVD players.PS2 uses DVD-based storage and can be copied, but unless you have a special chip in your PS2, it won't play games on burned discs. If you get it modded, you shouldn't have any problems, though.

Opera always seemed slower to me. And it's much bigger. And it's adware unless you pay and paying for stuff sucks. Three strikes and it's out, as far as I'm concerened.

Three-State System Failed attempt to create 3 state system.
madcrow replied to infamousflame's topic in Hardware Workshop
Yeah a 3-state computer might be interesting, but it's still just an enhancement of the traditional binary computer. Quantum computers will be much more flexible, should they ever actually move beyond the realm of the theorhetical. -
Astahost's New Look... The forums new look...
madcrow replied to Tobias's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The new look is generally better and it loads faster too. I would like the hosting credits to be moved back to the top, though. -
Photography Stock Sites Any experience with them?
madcrow replied to sxyloverboy's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't believe in charging for that kind of stuff on the 'Net. I would put photos up for free if it were up to me. -
I still think that Hydrogen is not really practical. Maybe it can be made a little better, but I think that electric or clean natural gas will end up powering the future of transit.

1 Playstation3 + 1 Linux = 2 Good To Be True ?
madcrow replied to qwijibow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Sony will be selling Linux with the hard drive kit. With an HD digital monitor, a nice keyboard and a mouse you could easily use it as a workstation for 3d graphics use... And of course the game are nice too. I want this bad... -
I had a similar problem with my SCSI card. There I was able to simply swap out the card for another one of the same kind and the crashing (which under Linux was just the system freezing up every few minutes as the driver restarted the drives) Before you get another mobo, see if you can find a PCI drive controller. After all, if your IDE is the only thing broken, you really shouldn't have to replace the whole mobo...

Switching To Linux switch
madcrow replied to Cookiemonster1405241499's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think SuSE has better configurations tools than Fedora. They're more complete and more powerful, even providing a frontend for some of the nitty-gritty stuff like Powertweak which allows people to actually change the kernel during runtime... -
Nintendo's "new" handheld is just a smaller, more stylized version of the GBA. It has no new abilities or anything.
-
Yeah, this is pretty cool stuff. And yeah, it ought to sipport 1080i. Actually as lond as you have a little compression, even current tech. can transfer 1080i. The big test will be transferring 1080p...

Linux & Midi Building a Linux box to work with MIDI
madcrow replied to yungblood's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Most modern distros won't even work with a 486. They need at least a Pentium 1 to even execute the code. I'd say go with an older version of SuSE or something. Just make sure you have Rosegarden, that program I mentioned earlier. X11 will work on a 486, but not a modern WM... -
Nintendo is going to be unleashing something like this for the DS. It will be truly free Internet and you won't have to hack. They're working on an agreement with some cellphone companies in the US in order to get access from anywhere...

Linux & Midi Building a Linux box to work with MIDI
madcrow replied to yungblood's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Heh, YOU try running Fedora on a 486... It won't be pretty... if it runs at all... If you want to do MIDI on low-powered Linux, you should be sure that you have a real hardware MIDI card. For a 486, an AWE32 is about as good as you can get, and that's not half bad. Even if you just want console mode, you should be able to get a text-mode MIDI player... I know I had one at one point. Rosegarden is a good MIDI editor for people who don't have a system powerful enough for KDE or GNOME. -
May I remind people that Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony are all buying HUGE numbers of CPUs from IBM for their consoles. That said, while IBM isn't in any trouble, Apple users are, since all their software is now officially useless.

I'm not really a big fan of plain text editors for web editing. HTML editing is better when you have at least HTML syntax highlighting and if possibly the kinds of things that make editing tables and stuff easy to edit.

Windows 64 Bit Edition What is that for?
madcrow replied to Casanova1405241497's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The 64-bit edition is just a cheap hack anyway. I'd suggest you either sell it on ebay or get an amd cpu that can handle 64-bits. -
I guess I'll share mine here too: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ As you can probably guess from the URL, it's about 8 bit games, but I have plenty of cool stuff up and more is on the way.
-
With current generation of mid-end video cards, you can't really go wrong. Just about anything will be an improvement over integrated graphics and while there may be differences of a few FPS, you probably won't notice the difference without nerdy little tools like frame counters and stuff of that sort.

Which Version Of Fedora Will Run On An Athlon64?
madcrow replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yeah, even if you use it in 32-bit mode the amd64 cpus have some advantages over the p4. Still, it IS best used in 64-bit mode with the right packages to run any 32-bit programs you might need.
