  1. Right now I'm running Windows Vista RC1 (yes, it's legit) on VMWare and it works like UNIX, like the folder structure is almost a direct copy.

Instead of doing / system, it uses the C:\ D:\ system but everyone still has their own home directory and stuff like that.

I seriously think Microsoft finally learn that UNIX is the superior system and they are trying to transition their NT system to work more like the UNIX system.

However, it's still quite slow, esp. on VMWare, so I don't know if it's going to be as laggy on native system.

Windows Vista RC 1 (Build 5600)

    VMWare 5.5.3 for Linux

    20 GB HDD

    512 MB RAM

Update December 23, 2006: Here's the screenshot of my Vista desktop:

  2. well, the thing is Microsoft isn't what it used to be during the 90s when they reigned the operating systems market. They're actually falling to other operating systems such as MacOS X, Linux and now FreeBSD.Why? It's because UNIX is technically superior to DOS/NT based Windows and that they all have an opensource base. This is indeed the time where these alternative players can take a large bite in the market.Linux is becoming more "user-friendly" and will continue to be. Many of the "regular user" hardware are supported out of the box. Even gamer's hardware are almost fully supported. All we need are the masses to start shifting over to Linux and/or the opensource movement.FreeBSD is also on its way, but it's still lags behind Linux.xboxrulz

  3. true, some people are crazy enough to actually attempt to mimic a game because it just "feels so real". Some people are just that psychotic. It could be other reasons, but a person should never think that life is a game because it's not! You can't respawn after you're dead. Once you're dead, you're dead!Plus, I moved this topic to the proper location.xboxrulz

  4. IE6 is much faster than IE7, usually about 2 times, just make some css and javascript tests online and try scrolling a html file over 1mb with lots of tables or other tags!
    @ Chesso

It can't be that Opera is rendering slower than Firefox on the same system on your computer, Opera loads faster, is much faster by css and javascript tests and the scrolling speed on 1mb html file is much faster and changing between tabs is also much faster.. It is just the view, when I was using Firefox as my main browser, I didn't like how Opera rendered my created websites and the gui, but now I don't like how Firefox does it :P

Of course if you have a fast computer, it is hard to see the speed difference, but if you have a quite older computer, say not more than 1ghz CPU, not a superb graphics card and not lots of ram, or ram not being DDR and etc. The speed difference is very different. I am usually pissed of now with what browser is better, Firefox and Opera and Konqueror and Safari are very good browsers, IE is just a bad browser. :P The 7th version of Explorer improved, but.. other major browsers are ahead of them. :P

Not true, when compared Opera and Mozilla Firefox on Windows XP, Firefox is faster than Opera. However due to the bloated GTK2 toolkit on Linux, Firefox is slower than the QT toolkit that Opera uses on Linux/UNIX.

    I use a Pentium 4 2.53 GHz 512 MB RAM PC2100 NVIDIA GeForce 6600 for this comparison.

  5. Yes but it is not advanced as the new version? Have you seen the beta in action? Also, Quick Silver is a ripped of version of Mercuary board, the only difference between the two versions is that Quick Silver is a bit simpler and has a bit differnt design. Otherwise the source code is identical to mercuary. Also Mecuary is not that fun to design and does not offer great editing capablity without breaking something, trust me i know.

Ummm... read the copyright notice at the bottom. Quicksilver Forums is BASED ON Mercuryboard. They share the same codebase, we branched off them.

Anyways, I have definitely played around with PHPBB3 since it was still called 2.1.x
