  1. If you're going to go with that configuration, choose Windows XP Media Center Edition. XP pro is pretty much worthless. Also, if Dell does offer Windows Vista, don't choose it. Windows Vista is still extremely buggy and it won't take long for it to present the BSOD.Just be aware that Dell laptops do not last at all. It'll probably die in 2-3 years or have quite a few problems by then.

Not quite true. I had almost no problems with Windows Vista. The only problem I had was to install Microsoft Office 2003 Professional. It completely crashed my system, I had to uninstall to get back into my regular account.

Well, apparently, Dells are getting a really good foot hold.

I got a new estimate for the first semester at my school (2006-2007) and it went like this:
    1. Dell
    2. Apple
    3. HP
    4. Dell
    5. Lenovo/IBM

  3. New Xbox 360s Shipping with Upgraded DVD Drive

New BenQ supplied drive is quieter, faster.

    by Gerry Block

February 6, 2007 - Xbox-Scene.com, a long standing community of Xbox and 360 hackers and modders, exposed an unpublicized, yet positive, upgrade to the Xbox 360's hardware. According to sources, a portion of Xbox 360s produced from November '06 onwards are incorporating a new, quieter DVD drive. Previous 360s have used Toshiba-Samsung and Hitachi-LG drives, the sources of the 360's characteristic whirr. The new DVD drives, manufactured by BenQ, are significantly quieter and are based upon a Philips design superior to others employed in Xbox 360s.

It is likely that ever increasing percentages of newly manufactured 360s will include the new BenQ drive until the remaining supply of the older DVD drives is completely exhausted. Owners of Xbox 360s with the BenQ drive have reported significantly quieter operation and slightly quicker load times.

Now the 360 can be just as quiet as the Wii ;)!

  4. I, myself had not seen any problems from either HP and Acer. They are the top 5 laptop brands at my high school.

    Top 5:

    Acer

    Apple

    HP

    Toshiba

    Dell

*Estimates based on 2005-2006 school year

I have a Samsung, but it doesn't even make it to the Top 5 and it's running for 7 years.
