LCD Monitors to use or not to use
JimBeam1405241475 replied to insanity10117's topic in Hardware Workshop
I'm no expert or anything, but from what I've read in PC magazines and various websites, CRT monitors are the way to go. Apparently there are a lot of things to look out for with LCD monitors, things concerning dead pixels and viewing angles are the main things to look for I think. Personally I'd prefer a CRT monitor over LCD just because of the viewing angle problems. I know that when I'm using the computer I'm always sitting in front of the monitor, so this really shouldn't be a problem... but little things like that really sh*t me. CRT monitors are also considerably cheaper, and that's another big factor to think about when deciding which way to go... at least it is for me anyway, I'm not the rishest bloke in the world if you know what I mean.I've been using an old HP 15" CRT monitor for the past 6 years and do plan on buying a new monitor when ever I can get some money together... and I'll just be getting a nice 17" Flatron or something of that manner. People say LCD screens are a lot clearer and have a much better picture, but I honestly don't think the difference between the two aren't that big.But having said all that, if space is the biggest issue for you, and you can afford 2 LCD monitors then it may be the best option for you... just do some homework first and make sure your buying good quality stuff and not cheap crap that's just going to break down after a year or so. Check warranty lengths too... you don't want to buy a monitor with a 12 month warranty and then you get dead pixels after that year. So, personally I'd say CRT is the way to go... but that's just me.. LCD might be best for you. -
This site has been around for quite some time now, and I don't think it'd really be causing any problems for google. It just provides a quick and easy way to get a membership to the best free email service available at the moment (in my opinion anyway). For anyone who doesn't have a gmail account I'd recommend getting one, the service is great.. very fast, clean layout, and over 2 GB of space at the moment.

I couldn't agree more with qwijibow. Although it is a smart idea, I don't see the point in going hunting, without even going anywhere. If you want to have fun shooting at stuff on your computer there's plenty of first person shooter games you can play... and I'd have to imagine a game would be a whole lot more fun as well. I don't see the fun in shooting a target out in some field that is miles away from you, and then not even having anything to show for it, unless you want to waste even more money to have the damn thing shipped to you. But what would be the point? It's not like it's a huge accomplishment that you shot this thing from your computer. The guy who made this is smart, he'd be raking in the money now... but the concept is so stupid. Well I know I'd never consider doing it anyway, it seems stupid to me... I'd rather actually being out there and doing the work.

Exeem 0.24 Public Beta
JimBeam1405241475 replied to nakulgupta's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I couldn't agree more with you X-Wes. Although I did in fact download the official copy of eXeem, I haven't had any problems what so ever with spyware/adware. Nonetheless, I will be switching over to the Lite version now that I know about it because I'd prefer to avoid any concerns of spyware on my machine. Thanks for the link by the way. And about BitTorrent, I have the same exact views as you. I think the problem is that most people are just too lazy to actually give BT a fair go, and actually see its advantages over ordinary P2P programs such as Kazaa. That's sort of the way I felt with it in the beginning, till one day when I got bored and decided to play around with it a bit, learn what it was really about, and I've never used any other P2P program since. Except for when I gave eXeem a shot. A lot of people also complain about slow download speeds, but as you mentioned it can be very fast with the right configurations. The torrent sites I use nowadys are http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ , https://www.demonoid.pw/ and http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/? (the new suprnova.org). I can usually find what I'm after from those sites. -
Ps3 And Xbox Coming Out Soon
JimBeam1405241475 replied to darkool's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yeah I heard they've also started working on Gran Turismo 5 for the PS3 as well... and that will be enough for me to decide on getting one! I've been a huge fan of the GT series since the beginning, and each game just kept getting better and better. I'm sure GT5 will not be any exception to that... and the graphics improvement will be a bonus too I'm really looking forward to seeing these next gen consoles. -
Ps3 And Xbox Coming Out Soon
JimBeam1405241475 replied to darkool's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Of course it's still a sequel. Don't you remember the Super Nintendo>Nintendo 64... they are both sequels to the original Nintendo (NES), yet they were not capable of playing the earlier model's games. Anyway, about the PS3 and Xbox2 being released in May... I heard today that this year's E3 is being held in May, and the PS3 will be released there for public display for the first time. It is quite possible that the Xbox2 will also be released there at the same time. I don't know if this is true though, just something I heard from a friend today. Nonetheless, I don't think we'll be seeing either console released for sale till next year. The PS3 sounds very exciting too... another thing my friend was telling me was the processor in it is meant to be 36Ghz or something, I really don't know if that's right, I haven't looked into it, but 36Ghz would be very impressive. I think they're calling it "The Cell" if anyone wants to look it up. -
Yahoo Upgrades Email Storage To 1gb
JimBeam1405241475 replied to PC Astray's topic in Search Engines
A lot of people are saying that hotmail is only 4mb of storage!!?? Or 250mb for US users only!? What's that about? I use hotmail, have done so for at least 5 years now and my account has upgraded to 250mb, and I live in Australia! But I don't even know why these companies are offering so much storage space... for email, that much space is really not needed. I never reached my limit of 4mb with hotmail, but I guess I did have to be deleting old mesages all the time.Anyway, has anyone else noticed gmail's limit increase gragually lately? At the moment it is at 2101MB... anyone know how much further they are planning to go? -
Ps3 And Xbox Coming Out Soon
JimBeam1405241475 replied to darkool's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I doubt they'd both be coming out on the same day... and I also doubt that either of them will be released May 16. That's way too soon. I'm sure that both companies will have pictures of the consoles, and screenshots of the games being played on the consoles months before their actual release. Not to mention the marketing, and game reviews from popular websites and magazines. I would expect to see all of this MONTHS before the release of either console. But I don't know... maybe they are being advertised already in other countries? Us Aussies usually have to wait a little longer to get all of that stuff anyway.I just don't expect to see these consoles being released within the nect month or 2... there would be a lot more hype and advertising for them than there is at the moment. -
Exeem 0.24 Public Beta
JimBeam1405241475 replied to nakulgupta's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yeah I totally agree. I downloaded this as soon as I heard about it (a while ago now ) and loved the look and feel of it... but I really haven't had much of an opportunity to use it much because of the lack of files it offers. I guess it will take some time to grow though, and I hope that when it is finally out of BETA and popular it will be a good alternative to BitTorrent. Having said that though, I don't feel that any P2P system will ever be as good as the BitTorrent community... the only draw back nowadays with BitTorrent is knowing where to get the torrent files from.Site's I'm using these days for torrents are; torrentspy.com demonoid.com (yes, it's back up and running) -
In my opinion MSN Messenger has always been the best messenger service out there. Other chat clients like ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, and AIM just don't compare... never have and never will I don't think. The other clients just seem to be so far behind, I'd say they're about par with MSN Messenger 1.0 LoL. Maybe not quite, but MSN just seems to have so many features not available on the other clients... and it's so much easier and more enjoyable to use.

It must not be a very consistant problem then... I've been using the BETA since it's release and have not had any problems what so ever. It has been completely 100% stable and logs are saved perfectly. I love the way it shows your previous conversation in the message window when you chat to a friend. Well now seeing as the final version is out I'll have to have a look at it. Although I am happy with this version, the final product is always going to be better than a BETA. Thanks for the links =) JimBeam

Some of these URL's are just ridiculous. What is the point in having the world's longest URL? Apart from the email provider site, these site's seem to serve no purpose what so ever other than having a long domain name. Some people must have too much money on their hands, because I know I couldn't afford to have a domain name registered that is going to serve no purpose. It is quite funny though... especially the email provider site. Imagine how annoying it would be to recieve emails from an address like that? Hehehe... would be a good way to annoy your friends =)

Nice find man... that's amazing. Look how far we've come in 20 odd years. Could you imagine trying to install one of them babies in your PC? Hehehe, you would need a crane. And back then they probably would never have imagined having the hard drive capacity we have these days in such a small size.

What Is The Best Brand For Mouses? What mouse do you use...
JimBeam1405241475 replied to Sadas's topic in Hardware Workshop
I don't see how different mice are any better than one another. Unless you're a huge nut about ergonomics and stuff, they're all the same. Every mouse I've ever owned has done me good, only reason I ever bought a new one was because I was sick and tired of dust getting on the mouse ball and interfering with the cursor movement. So I went out and bought myself the cheapest optical mouse I could find, and in the shop I was at at the time, it just happened to be a Microsoft. I've had it for over 2 years now at least, probably even 3 and it still looks brand new and does the job just the same. All I need in a mouse is an optical, 2 button wheel mouse. Very standard mouse these days, I don't need one that has a hundred extra buttons on it to assist my web browsing, that just seems silly to me. And I also would not want a cordless mouse, I just think it's a ridiculous idea. I hardly recognise that the cord is there all the time anyway, so why would I want to bother with a mouse that needs to have batteries replaced with every 10 hours of use. And who sits at the other side of their room using their mouse anyway? It's not like the cord isn't long enough or anything. Just my preference anyway, replacing batteries all the time would be such a hassle. So anyway I voted Microsoft, but only because that happens to be the brand of mouse I own at the moment. -
My System Specs It said you could brag about them....
JimBeam1405241475 replied to Jguy101's topic in Hardware Workshop
"Which Linux OS would you recommend other than Windows"...? Well Windows ain't Linux anyway so any Linux OS recommended to you wont be Windows LoL. Anyway, my PC stats; AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 512 MB DDR Ram Seagate 120 GB HDD 20 GB HDD Secondary drive (pulled out of an old HP computer) ATi Radeon 9600 SE Pioneer DVD combo drive (8x DVD/DVD-R 24x CD-R/RW) I think that's everything worth mentioning. -
The Greatest Thing Ever!

Thanks guys... I really appreciate it! SingleDaddyof2 I'm glad there's someone here who can relate, you know exactly what I mean when I say how amazing this really is. And OpaQue, you're in luck because I have some photos uploaded already so here you go; These were all taken when we were still in the birthing centre (hospital) by the way. Ben sleeping on our bed: Ben sleeping with me on the bed: Ben sleeping on my chest: =) -
I don't know how many people knew this, but since joining these forums I have been due to become a daddy. Well the day finally came, 3 days ago on Thursday 24 March. We had a little boy and we named him Ben. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen, and the feeling I have had over the last 3 days just can't be beat. Anyone else who has had kids will know what I'm talking about.. but just looking at this little baby and thinking that I made him, and he is totally dependant on me and my fiance just gives me a completely overwhelming feeling that really can't be explained. It is just so incredible.

So What Are The Advantages Of Sp2?
JimBeam1405241475 replied to silverkirfsco's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm using SP2 and I see no problems with it. It didn't slow my computer down like some people have mentioned, and it hasn't really affected the way I use my computer. The only real difference I noticed is the security centre... and the firewall. Every time a new program tried connecting to the internet connection I get a pop up telling me about it, and all I have to do is click the "Unblock" button and I never hear about it again. It's not too intrusive or anything, so I don't see the problem in using it.And it fixes a lot of the security holes, so why wouldn't you want it? -
Meh it didn't work for me anyway. I had the browser going but wasn't being credited for the sites I was viewing. I looked through the FAQ's and it seems my problem may have been that I am working behind a proxie. I can't be bothered changing that just for the slight chance that I might get some free cash, so I gave up on it straight away.If anyone else tries it and it actually is legit then let us know and I'll probably give it another try... although I'm doubtful about it because of all the bad reports on it.
-
Well I joined up, I'll do anything for cash so I figured this was worth the risk. They say that they pay you every month, on the 15th of every month, so if this is legitimate then we'll find out in 6 days. Although they also say that you need to earn at least $25 in a month to be paid... so if I haven't earnt that much by the 15th we'll have to wait a whole extra month to find out.If this really is legit, it can pay out some some really nice amounts of cash.$0.45 an hour24 hours in a day24 * $0.45 = $10.80If you have that going every day, and there's approximately 30 days in a month...30 * $10.80 = $324$324 a month is a **** load of money for doing nothing. I must admit though it is damn annoying having the window open every 30 seconds... but if it's real than I think it is very much worth it :DThis will benefit me with my PayPal account as well. I set it up hoping to be able to use it for online purchases... but I don't have a credit card so I can't put any funds into my account... but this system will put my pay into my paypal account and I'll finally be able to make online purchases.

List Of Torrent Sites & Clients supernova mirror
JimBeam1405241475 replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I think you'd be better off using a public tracker, rather than setting up your own. I haven't actually been seeding my torrents for a while now since most of the good sites have been brought down, so I can't recommend any good trackers for you. Otherwise I would have suggested either Demonoid.com or Lokitorrent.com, of course, they've both been brought down by the RIAA. Although I think I saw a link to a public tracker on that torrentsearch.com site, maybe you should have a look at that. Using your own web host as a tracker will use some (although very little) bandwidth to do the tracking. You could then just host the torrent files on your website, so your users can download them there and then go ahead and download the file from you. If the files you are wanting to share aren't too big though, you'd probably be better off just hosting them on your site. Hosting torrents and then seeding them out means you'll have to keep those torrents open all the time to enable other people to download it from you. This will eat away at your own bandwidth and you'll alos have to keep your computer on constantly. -
Chat Scripts Need some help...
JimBeam1405241475 replied to JimBeam1405241475's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well maybe I worded it wrong... but it's not actually lagging as such. What I meant was when we have a few people in the room trying to chat, and they're all talking constantly, we only get all their messages all at the same time every 3 seconds, rather than when they actually send the message. I know 3 seconds is quite fast, but when you have say 10 people all talking at once it can get hard to follow what's going on because you'll get 3 or 4 messages all at the same time every 3 seconds.Bah, well I'm going to stop trying to explain what I mean here, I'm bad at explaining stuff... but I hope you understand what I mean. What I would like is something very similar to mIRC. Are there any scripts out there that will run a mIRC channel in your website? The only time you get lag with mIRC is when you have a slow internet connection, or just a bad connection to the server. -
Alright well I have a question about chat scripts. I frequently visit another forum and they brought up the idea of adding a chat room. Some people tried creating rooms in chat programs such as Yahoo messenger and AIM... but that caused problems because other people didn't have the programs (or didn't want to download them) or didn't know how to find the room properly. So I went ahead and installed chat scripts to my site to make it all a little easier for everyone. Ok, so the first one I tried was; Java/CGI Chat Room This one was pretty OK. I thought it did the job alright, but I had some users complain that it didn't have a side-bar showing who else was in the room. It was also a little lagged, so I decided on trying another script to try and get an improvement. I installed; PhpMyChat Room This one was HEAPS better, in my opinion. It offered the option to register your nickname and I just found the whole layout a lot better. It also showed who else was in the room, so I thought it was perfect. Then I realised the lag. This chat script seems to refresh every 3 seconds or so, so it is quite slow, and when you have a few people trying to have a conversation it can get very difficult to follow what's going on. Now my question is, how can improve on this? I like all the features of the PhpMyChat Room but I hate the lag. Maybe there is a way to increase the refresh rate? Or if not, could somebody recommend another script that offers the same features as this script, but runs faster? If nobody knows of any, that's cool... but if someone does know of any other scripts that I might like I'd appreciate the heads up. Thanks. PS. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I couldn't think of a more appropriate one. Mods, if this should be somewhere else feel free to move it (as if you wouldn't just do that anyway ).

It shouldn't take you to Microsoft. Try this link; http://www.exeem.com/ That should work fine. Hope it helps.

Resident Evil 4? Gamecube and all time best game...
JimBeam1405241475 replied to viewtiful4ever's topic in Computer Gaming
I know you want to get your post count up to get hosted.... but posting crap like this won't get you anywhere. At least post in the appropriate "Games" forum if you are going to post about a game. When you get your 10 posts and then request your hosting account, Opa is going to go and have a look at your posts, see crap like this and completely disregard your request. I'm not trying to insult you in any way, just giving you a heads up... now go along and post something interesting and useful to the board (and in the correct forum while I'm at it ) and you just might be considered for a hosting account when you hit 10 posts.Good luck... and believe me, follow my advice, otherwise you'll just be wasting your own time, as well as ours.
