  1. That's pretty cool. Quite creative. Simple cartoon movies they seem a bit tedious but then again much in flash is that way at first. Cool little trick to add to the toolbox thanks Hellfire. I might actually have a use for that at work! Cool
  2. Posted this in another section but this could apply here too.Can anyone help me with this problem I seem to be having with flash?? I know this is probably some stupid little setting somewhere I have to tweak but I can't find it. I'm trying to put a picture into flash on the canvas. I have a seperate layer for it. Nothing else is on the layer. Properties for the picture is set at 100 % quality. My publish settings are set at 100% quality for Jpegs and I've tried every setting I can find but the picture keeps displaying at a low resolution when I preview my movie. It displays fine on the design screen when I test it. But whenever I preview it - it just farts. I don't understand it. I have put tons of pictures of high rez images in flash files before and never had this problem. I had a similar problem with sound once and found like a third place to edit sound properties for the file I was working with and that did the trick - I imagine the solution is something similar but I am stuck.PLEASE HELP

  4. I have been messing with that for a while yeah - finally I gave up - having better things to do and just tried to match a good background color. I'm so ghetto sometimes I know. Sometimes I could be working on a big project and the stupidest little detail will stump me for hours. But the hard things I seem to have an easier time with, go figure. I'm an idiot savante or whatever I guess. Thanks a million though
  5. Scratch that - I must have not copied and pasted correctly cause I reviewed the source for that line again and it wasn't in there - changed it manually (instead of cut and paste) and it worked. Sorry I am such an idiot sometimes. Thank you so much.Reputation points!Reputation points!
  6. Thanks - Tried that code and didn't work - crap - I have tried setting my publish setting for the window mode to opaque or transparent already. Other ideas maybe?? Thanks again too.

  9. Hey if any of you HTML wizzes out there could help me - I would greatly appreciate it. I am designing some web site stuff with flash only. I know I know I should be using dreamweaver or something else in addition - which I don't have access to on my computer here at work. When I publish my files I can't get rid of the border around my swf file when I view it in a browser. Is there any way to get rid of this $#%$ed border?? I have tried all the options I can find in flash to no avail. I'm thinking there probably is some simple HTML code to get rid of the border but I don't know it. Any help would be awesome. Thanks
  10. I play Jazz. I play mostly rock type stuff now but occassionally I get together with some people who can really play jazz and we jam. I play the guitar, bass, drums, violin, keys, etc.. If anyone wants to talk music let's do it. This could be a much bigger forum for that. Also if anyone has any music to share please do that would be cool. Doesn't anyone out there have a band or a website or anything?? I am working on one right now for my band at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ if anyone cares to check it out. If anyone out there has a band/site and cares to exchange some ideas and trade some original music or something let me know.
  11. The lyrics could potentially go many ways over an arrangement perhaps you could also post a sound byte if you have a melody in mind or if you play an instrument so we could get a feel for what is going on harmonically and melodically along with reading the lyrics. Would also like to see some other people post links to thier music sites and/or song links - I would really like to hear what some other people on here are doing musically. Anyone who's interested can visit my site under construction at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Please post your links !
  12. Music is so subjective - most great musicians don't really like to be classified as any particular thing because music is just music. People who like to categorize and organize because they can't handle accepting things on thier own terms are the ones who come up with this alternative-this and punk-that. If anyone is in a band with a website and stuff it would be cool to hear some demos or see some links and stuff. I am working on a site here if anyone wants to visit the link it's http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. It would be nice to see some other sites and hear some peoples music if anyone cares to share.
  13. For those of you interested in doing your own stuff in Flash - It's really not that hard to get started. Especially if you are just looking to do a simple intro for your own personal site I recommend going to Macromedia's website and downloading the free 30 day trial version of flash and you could learn to do your own in less than 30 days. I just did a series of tutorials for those of you who would like to get started with flash out there. Here are the links: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/81571-topic/?findpost=1064286133 http://forums.xisto.com/topic/81570-topic/?findpost=1064286132 http://forums.xisto.com/topic/81569-topic/?findpost=1064286131 http://forums.xisto.com/topic/81568-topic/?findpost=1064286130
  14. Flash Tutorial 4: Symbol EffectsThe last thing I will cover with this series of tutorials for Flash Macromedia is effects/transitions/transformations which are probably the easiest to use but since there are so many things that can be done with them easily - I feel it's worth covering and learning for any begining flash designer.1. 1st open a blank Flash Document2. create a keyframe(select and press F6) on the first frame in the timeline(top of flash window)3. Use the circle tool and draw a circle of desirable size on the canvas. If you have been following these tutorials you could also import a picture of a logo or something as well to be converted to a symbol.4. Right click your picture or circle or whatever and select convert to symbol from the menu. Choose graphic from the 3 types of symbols.5. Really once you convert your object to a symbol you're pretty much ready to add some effects so right click the symbol on the canvas. Down at the bottom you will see timeline effects with an arrow to the right. Highlighting this will in turn give a few more options choose something from either effects or transition/transform.6. Using these effects you can do a number of things: Fade in or out of the document, wipe the screen, you can fade to specific colors or change the alpha of the color with transition. The effects and transition/transform options, once you create your symbol, are pretty much automated functions. It's really up to you as to how to apply them to the project you are working on.In the event you are getting an error when you apply your effect, you may have skipped or fumbled the step of creating the symbol. Hopefully, if you've read all 4 tutorials now, you have some idea of how to do the basics with flash. Really aside from using actionscript and components the 'complexics' aren't much more than basics applied on a larger scale. Have fun designing and if anyone has some cool animations they made after using this maybe they could post and share so others could learn from them too.
  15. Flash Tutorial 3: Mask LayersMask Layers are a good way to show content underneath the top layer in a flash movie. To get familiar with the effect you really need to do it a few times to understand the potential.1. Start with the bottom layer you have already. Paste something into it that takes up most of the canvas ie. jpeg or something.2. Insert a new layer into the timeline. (select the layer 1 and click the button in the lower left corner of the window)3. Lock 'Layer 1'. (There is a lock next to the colored box for the layer on the left panel of the timeline window.4. Select layer 2 and using the text tool draw a box on the canvas and enter MASK into the text box.5. Right click 'Layer 2' and select MASK from the menu. 'Layer 1' should indent a bit and the icons for both layers should become blue and black checkered boxes. This means you successfully applied your mask layer.6. Preview your movie and ensure your mask is working. You should see whatever content you placed on 'Layer 1' but only what falls underneath the word MASK from 'Layer 2'.Mask layers are a cool tool to use so experimenting with them is worth it. The masked layers could also be something animated like fire or something. So you could get like a burning text effect. The possibilities are only limited to your imagination.
  16. Flash Tutorial 2: Shape TweeningShape Tweening is basicall where you have 2 shapes and you morph one into the shape of the 2nd shape. The procedure to do this is quite simple really :1. 1st open a blank Flash Document2. create a keyframe(select and press F6) on the first frame in the timeline(top of flash window)3. Use the circle tool and draw a circle of desirable size on the canvas.4. Select a subsequent frame on the timeline like frame 24 (sec @ 12frames/sec) press F6 to insert a keyframe. Your drawn cirlce should appear again after this step.5. DO NOT CONVERT the circle to a SYMBOL - unlike the motion tween, shape tween doesn't work with symbols.6. Adjust the shape of the circle in the final keyframe using the free transform tool (press Q)7. click on one of the frames between the keyframes you created (1-24) and on the property inspector (on the menu windows-properties) select shape from the tween drop list box.8. The frames between keyframes will turn blue or green and if you did it right there will be a line with an arrow - if you did it wrong the line will be dashed with no arrow.9. Preview your shape tween.
  17. As many know - Flash Macromedia is en vogue these days and you can actually do some pretty cool stuff with it. I'm going to do a couple of simple tutorials to get those people started using flash. Once you start to use it and get some of the basic concepts, you can do some cool simple animation for your websites or whatever.Tutorial 1: Simple Motion TweeningMotion tweening is basically a quick way to animate something.1. First you need to draw an object on the screen (you can also import a graphic or something too). Make sure you get the graphic or drawing on the work area in the center of the screen. (just simply selecting the circle tool and drawing one on the canvas will work fine).2. Once you have created a basic image to tween you must convert it to a SYMBOL so that it may be animated. Right click your picture or circle or whatever and select convert to symbol from the menu. Choose graphic from the 3 types of symbols. This is a CRITICAL STEP if you forget this your tweening will NOT WORK!3. On the timeline (top of screen) - click several frames in advance maybe frame 24 (2 sec @12frames/sec) right click and go to insert keyframe. A dot should appear in the selected frame.4.Now move the SYMBOL you've drawn somewhere else on the canvas. (preferable far enough away so that when you apply the tweening, you see noticable movement not 1mm movement)5. Now the object is ready to be tweened. Click the first frame of the flash doc. (it should also have a dot in the frame). Right click the frame and click 'motion tween'. The frames in between the dots should turn blue and a line with an arrow should appear - meaning the object was tweened. 6. If the line appears dashed, something is wrong - go back and start over and repeat the steps above.7. Preview your flash movie and watch the animation.
  18. I would say from a business stand point 80% of sale price is a good deal. Keep in mind that 80% of $0 is $0. My point is, if he doesn't do a professional job selling, you still end up with nothing. Also, as stated, I would take some preventative steps to prevent him from "stealing" your work. If you are doing printwork - use low resolution proofs to give him to use to sell the stuff. Then when you recieve payment THEN give him the originals. Whatever you need to do to protect yourself. He needs to understand that there are steps you need to take to protect your business interests in the deal (your $$). And you need to understand that he IS going to need SOMETHING to use to sell the product with (proof, sample, etc.). As long as you do a little preplanning it could be a good idea. And as previously mentioned, if you do happen to get ripped off - at least you have more experience for the next project. Just try not to spend to much time on the first design or two until you have HISTORY of payment with the guy.Additionally, in any product business, the manufacturing cost would be around 10-20% of the final selling price or less plus an extra 10-20% additional overhead cost or more - so if you (the "manufacturer" of graphics) indeed get 80% of sale price you are getting an incredible deal.Whatever you do - best of luck to you.And would love to see some of your work
  19. I use Flash MX 2004 on a daily basis for work and I find it is quite easy to use and fairly simple to learn. You can do all sorts of simple animation easily - motion tweening, shape tweening, etc. This is all fun stuff even to just experiment with but really it's not all that hard to get a good concept of what is going on and use it to make MOST projects look more professional. If you are looking for web-site design stuff, it's the bomb. If you are looking for animation capabilities, it does a lot easily, though it's probably not the most advanced animation program out there. In my opinion, once you really learn to use Flash you can do most of your web site design using only Flash, should you want to. Dreamweaver also is a good program but since it was already mentioned I won't go there now. In my opinion the whole MX suite is a good choice but if you are only looking for "moderate" web design - Flash or Dreamweaver or both would really be all you need.Good Luck
  20. Using interrupts is not all that complex really it's just that they're used less frequently anymore. Most programming these days is done on a higher level than in previous years so most of the time when you need to deal with interrupt handling(many funcitons do even simple ones) there is already a pre-coded function that does the work for you and all you have to do is pass it some variables and get some returned ones. Once you get the idea of how interrupts work and why they exist you just need to learn how to actually interact with them then you will be off and running in no time. After a while you may find ways to streamline pre-existing functions so they run faster!Good Luck
  21. Streaming sounds is also a good way to serve up sound on a site. It doesn't slow down your pages on the initial load - it can be turned down or off on demand - and it helps give you a professional feel to your pages. That might even be a good topic for a tutorial.
  22. There are tons of free sounds available on the internet - just use your favorite search engine and search for free sound effects or free midi or whatever flavour sound file your require. Be prepared to sort through some crap though before you find what you want. I don't really have any favorite sites since you seem to have to look everywhere with each new project to find what you want anyways.Good Luck
  23. The best thing to do - I think - when trying to find a good color for the background is1st - brainstorm what you want the site as a whole to look like. You want to create a consistent appearance for your website in order to project contiguous image for your site. If you skip this planning phase you'll likely end up with a website that looks like several pages that don't really fit together. The overall idea is when choosing a background for a site is to find something that looks nice and pleasing to you (and someone else) while conciously making the color passive. It also shouldn't interfere with the text on the page either. Your best bet is to plan your site. Start building. Then reference other sites you feel have a professional look and use them as a reference. Don't just copy one but look at several and get an overall feel for what they are doing with the colour layout.Best of luck
  24. I use Flash MX 2004 - I'm a little unsure of your question. Compared to what?? The last version? Did you download thier update of MX 2004??
  25. I have done graphic design for a while and worked solo and in teams on sites before but the actual delivery and maintenance aspects I haven't much experience with. I'm wondering if there is anyone out there who could shed some light on the topic of Search Engine Submissions. It's obviously a necessary step of setting up a site if you want to make it visible to anyone who doesn't already know your site when they sit down at the computer. Is it worth it to pay for search engine submissions? - I have heard of FREE submissions too. Is it possible to submit to search engines free and get comparable results to paying for it? And can you do it yourself?? If anyone knows much about the HOW that would be awesome or some good informative links. Thanks
