  1. The husband tried to take her off life support a long long time ago. It was all the case stuff that kept it from ever happening because Terri's parents are completely insane due to grief.FYI: Terri is dead now. FinallyAlso, to pre-empt any 'we should honor life posts' or anything like that: If you really think that, why aren't you busy lobbying for universal health care?
  2. Its possible. People have done some impressive stuff with it. On the other hand, its 100 times harder and 100 time more time consuming and 1000 times as aggravating as any other way of doing it. Stick with blender. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ There is even a free textbook for blender. Hope that helps.
  3. The reason for getting CS is digital photography. Almost all of the improvements were aimed at that, but for good reason. Digital photography was just hitting the big time, and not having something called 'photoshop' be able to do everything you need related to, well, photos, probably seemed pretty silly. So, they made CSIf you don't do much digital photography(especially high end digital photography), and you don't expect to do any in the near future, don't get CS. Wait till May at least and get CS2.
  4. Not really. Not unless you KNOW that C4D is the program you are going to work in, which is unlikely. For 3d modeling, go with Maya, and download their personal learning edition. Or, if you want to do real freelance work, go get Blender3d. https://www.blender.org/ Blender is a FREE 3d program that is about as good as the commercial ones like C4D. It is certainly good enough for you to cut your teeth on and do work with till you figure out which commercial 3d program you want. Also, it has plenty of free documentation such as... https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro Granted, a Photoshop thread is the wrong place to ask (and answer), but oh well.
  5. The best thing to start with is the one you CAN start with. For that, let me suggest blender 3d. Blender is a fully capable 3d package on the lines of lightwave and 3dsmax and so on, but it is FREE. It is open source. Also, because it is free there is a HUGE community around it that would be more than willing to help you out. Even better, to get started there is a free online book at https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro The next to learn would be Maya. This is because it is an industry standard like 3dsmax. It is better than 3ds when it comes to animation especially. The reason to go for maya next is because they have a slightly crippled version called Maya Personal Learning Edition. With this, you can perfect your skills till you are at a marketable degree of capability.
  6. By this reasoning, a person is female if they act female. Certainly there are genetics involved, but there are also genetics involved with homosexuality. And the biological aspects? Easily dealt with by modern surgery. So, if a woman or man were to get a sex change, and behave 'like their sex', would that make their new sexuality their 'real' one to you?
  7. Thanks Man. I might be converting my PC to linux soon, and this is important for me to know, thanks for the tutorial.
  8. No. The components inside are all very high quality. They are essentially powerbook parts. As for the RAM issue, just go buy another stick. From personal experience, I can say that the mac mini would feel as fast with 512 MB ram as my PC desktop, which is 2500+ AMD, 512 RAM, radeon 9600XT. Also, the mac mini is silent (except for the CD Drive when it spins up. But that is still rather quiet). Some people like that. As for the advantage of size, if you have ever had to move a computer around, or change apartments, or even just rearrange your desk, then it is a huge boon. Better, like a laptop you can just take it with you to places and hook it up to whatever is available.
  9. Depends, $200 for 4gb space, and $250 for 6gb space.
  10. No, that is still sort of vague. It is the actual practices which would place you. Do you chant to Amitabha buddha? This would be pure land, or possibly Nicheren. Zen, or Chan in chinese, is another large sect that is very focused on meditiation. Others would be things like Tien Tai/Tendai or lotus school(which I happen to like in terms of doctrine) which attempts to combine many ideas and schools and reconcile them, though it has few adherents left. Finally there is tibetan buddhism, but that is unlikely to be in your area.
  11. Actually, no. Samsara I don't think its really possible to refute: the concept is that this universe is filled with change and impermanence, which is fueled by an ever changing series of causal factors. I don't think any scientist would ever disagree with that. Birth and rebirth I consider up for review myself, or at least many interpretations of them. Especially as they refer to the different realms. As the dalai lama has said (even though he is not of my sect), if science finds something to be false then it is gone. Period. Irrational Faith is considered a barrier to enlightenment, one of the worst in fact (belief in the efficacy of rules and rituals). This includes irrational faith in buddhist ideas(at least in my sect. But then again, their historical designation before the hinayana/mahayana split was the 'rationalists').
  12. Well, you can take responsibility for abreviating my name to MJF instead of what it should be: m*T*f. T as in Tree as in the middle word. Similarly, I can answer questions as well. People who are interested will find a nice selection. I am Theravada, which is about as far away from the nichiren school as one can get. And in the post above mine, there is an ethnic chinese mahayana buddhist of some stripe, which is similarly wildly different. Part of the reason things are so hard to explain in buddhism is that we disagree on almost everything. Outside of the very brief overview given above, none of our answers are likely to be the same. Indeed, there have already been differences.
  13. Um... you seem to have some weird idea that homosexuality is contagious or otherwise spreadable like a disease or like drug using behavior, in that it is somehow addictive. This is not true. It is not contagious and it is not addictive. Nor is it 'unnatural' as so many people put it. It appears to be completely natural, with homosexual animals being relatively easy to find. Even sweet gay penguins. Penguins that even have a clean, monogamous relationship. No, it won't. And how is any of this related to the quality of life of a future generation? Quality of life would be affected by things like better wages, lower pollution, and better health care and education. What bit of flesh goes where in a mutual relationship really doesn't have much to do with it at all. Besides, by your argument, anal sex between a man and a woman would also be unnatural and just as bad as being gay. Yet somehow, people don't seem to give a ****. Marriage: 1. A union of two things. eg: water is a result of the marriage of hydrogen and oxygen. 2. An economic and social joining of two people in a religious and/or social ceremony The Man and women thing is BS. Well, lets see. In the past, according to comfort zone, the following were considered just dandy: Slavery. Killing people based on religion. Feeding people to lions (christians in fact. Who would do well to remember this) -I realize this is similar to killing based on religion, but it wasn't always. Also note that this is killing for ENTERTAINMENT. Husbands raping and beating their wives.(still is, in some countries) Torture. On the other hand, by the same metric, the following was considered 'uncomfortable': People of different races having sex getting married(noteable in that the exact same arguments were used against this as are being used against gay marriage) Women have jobs/being educated/wearing short skirts/being 'uppity'(Was supposed to lead to the downfall of the nation) Most religions(Christians were even purged from Japan because they were a problem for the culture. Something christians should keep in mind when something makes them 'uncomfortable'.) Science (Darwin, Galileo, etc. The list goes on and on. ) Men wearing long hair (Apparently only Jesus was allowed to wear his hair long in the 50s) The Irish, the French, the English, the............ Frankly, I will go with trusting my mind. Your whole 'comfort zone' test isn't just bad, its the worst test ever devised by mankind. Offense intended.
  14. Actually, macs have auto-sensing ethernet ports that do not require this. They will work with a standard ethernet cable. This is part of why mac HW is expenisive. In a lot of ways, it is fantastic quality hardware. You just don't notice because things working automatically just doesn't call attention to itself, sorta by definition.
  15. Yes, I have. My friend just bought one. In response to using it, he is selling his PC. He decided that even games were not worth keeping the PC for. Which is weird, he used to be a rather hard core gamer. They run rather well. He thought the hardware inside was ~=3ghz p4. This is not true, its nowhere near as fast. However, OSX FEELS so much faster and nicer that you have a similar user experience.Anyway, I encourage people to go get a Mac mini if they want another computer. At the very least, it makes a damn good unix webserver for 500.
  16. Well, you are under the wrong impression if you think people can install OSX on their PC. Granted, there are projects to let you try (like pear PC), but they run....slowly. To say the least. Tell em to install a user-centric linux desktop like Ubuntu and then teach em how to install Wine.
  17. first, to answer a few other comments.Battery life dropped because older battery technology slowly went bad. New batteries use Li-ion tech which is MUCH better, in that it holds more charge and does not get a memory (or not much) if you take care of it. Case in point: my laptop (ibook 14" 1.33ghz G4) can get about 6 hours on a single charge. Other than that, there are really only a few things to decide between in terms of getting a laptop and a desktop: power, portability and expandability.Power and portability are inversely proportional. The more power in the laptop, usually the heavier it is and the shorter the battery life. There are, of course, exceptions. Those usually come at a price premium though.Expandability is better for desktops. you can replace the vid card and such for instance. However, this is becoming less and less relevant. With the exception of games and other graphically intense programs, modern video cards are ALL very very capable at handling whatever you feel like throwing at them. The one thing I would suggest here is to makes sure the laptop has an nVidia or ATI card in it, rather than some shared memory POS from intel or something. Those ACTUALLY suck. These days, if your laptop has usb 2 and Firewire, then you can expand it as much as you need anyway, and it doesn't matter So, what it really comes down to is what you need in terms of power/portability and how much money you have. On a personal note, I have owned two laptops. The first I hardly used, because it was heavy and only had a so-so battery life. It also had mediocre performance. So it mainly acted as a Q3 server. My second laptop(the mac) is quite peppy and has excellent battery life and is light enough. Now I hardly ever use my desktop. The point of this is that when people tell you that they never use their laptop or there is no point, chances are they got something like my first laptop. My suggestion: look through lots of reviews and pick up lots of notebooks. Figure out what weight limit you have. Then, go find the laptop with the best performance and a minimum ~4.5 hours of battery life you can afford. Never look back.
  18. There were a few things added. The healing brush, a file viewer,.....um, some additional controls. Nothing as big as the new brush engine in the jump from 6 to 7. Oh, it now will take RAW images, and has 16 bit channel support. Hmmm....looking. It allows you to directly affect darks and highlights. It has a multi-layer heal(I wish they had more multi layer tools). There are also apparently some weird features, like non-square pixels. There appear to be a bunch more but I didn't understand them well enough to list here. What might be the problem in your case is that you don't use these features. Remember that photoshop caters to a WIDE set of graphics interests, so while it might be a decent upgrade, it may not matter in your case.
  19. I see. I personally never believed. I was not brought up in any religion at all, because my parents believed I should decide for myself. I went to church a few times, but I found it really creepy, what with the ritualized cannibalism and all. Anyway, I hope you figure out what is right for you. But don't be afraid to say you don't know, when it comes to religion. It is wiser to say you don't know than to say you do and be wrong.
  20. Try winzip and winrar. They might do it. Really .sit is a silly format because it is not cross platform. I say that as a mac user. No reason not to use zip or rar.
  21. Look, neither company is better. Each line of cards they produce is different. Sometimes ATI is faster, sometimes nVidia is faster, and even then it often changes on a program to program, task to task basis. If you really want to know which is better, go figure out how much money you want to spend. Then, go look up some recent benchmarks and reviews for cards in that price range.Yeesh.
  22. That isn't true. Linux usually doesn't have support for the latest or somewhat obscure hardware, because drivers haven't been made. Also, in many cases the drivers that do exist are not as complete as they should be. However, this is changing.
  23. Questions are always good. Sometimes they lead to no faith, sometimes they lead to a different faith, and sometimes they lead to a stronger faith. In all cases, you are better off not having answers to all questions than not knowing enough to ask questions to begin with.
