get a hub not a router (are those two the same?) A router is also called a hardware firewall and it will make it impossible for a network to be set up since it will hide all computers connected to a hub.

Please do be aware that dialup is VERY slow. If you start to share the connection, speeds will dip to cringingly low levels. For example if you bandwidth throughput was at 2.4KB/s, technically if both computers are getting information you'll both have an average speed of 1.2KB/s.I would really highly recommend you switch to broadband.

Anti-Virus won't help anything but block viruses from coming into your computer. But also Norton Internet Security has an integrated pop up blocker that works quite well.Opera also has a popup blocker built in as well as the Mozilla web browser

Service Pack 2 of Windows XP Talk about the sp2 of WinXp
currahee replied to xelloss's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You're not the only one, as far as I can say it never worked for me. Only in those worst of the worst scenarios did it work. It hardly ever works for me even in SP1.But yeah in order to use it you 'have to specify a time in which there were changed made'which i think is stupid. Of course system files were being changed! why else would you use it?! =P -
Can you restate your problem? I don't really understand what you mean. If you mean extracting the files after downloading them, you can download WinRAR from the internet and extract .RAR files. If you want to extract files ON the server after uploading them... well I really don't know why you would want to do that. If you archive them as ZIP files in the file uploader you can extract them

How do free servers afford CPanel? [resolved]
currahee replied to watotron's topic in Websites and Web Designing
You mean a reselling hosting package. BUt you know I tihnk its worth the $1500. OBviously time has been spent on the application as it can do nearly EVERYTHING -
cPanel is like a dream. I think its worth the cost for cPanel as it can do nearly everything you would want to do in a server. And yes i'd like to thank the admin for his free services. I think its very nice and in fact better than Inuration's web hosting packages

how do you visit your localhost? If you mean by FTP then you should probably think about switching to an FTP client rather than Internet Explorer
-
ASP is free? hmm but as saying its more cost effective- there are a lot of pages using Active Server Pages than the JSP formats. ANd yes Visual Studio.NET does have ASP.NET in it i'm sure

Hmm you know what? I tpyed in star wars and got start wars stuff but then again stuff mnostly like links to merchants. Its not a search engine. Its an merchant search engine =P

Cookies are OK for things like remembering your password in forums and stuff. But when its used to intrude your privacy... that's when you start saying "NO" to them. But then again its rather annoying having to type in your username and password all the time.

EasyMod... the only mod that it can install correctly is the spell checking mod. I tried the cashmod on it and it ended up just screwing up my web board! which isn't a fun thing at all.I've had really bad luck with all the mods. Ever since cashmod I haven't installed anything really.

Well in terms of power or what? If its in terms of power than its C/C++ because you can do ANYTHING with them. They're so much faster compared to VB and anything else. Also you can work with OpenGL and DirectX with them.

phpBB2 vs IPB Didnt know what forum to put this in
currahee replied to Troop107-Admin's topic in Software
I like phpbb2, and the reason why I like it is the design. It looks so much better compared to Invision board and i've found so many themes for phpbb that look great and nothing really on Invision. -
Nope and if there was a program it would be a dud. Maybe you're thinking of virtual memory? Virtual memory is not the same as RAM but its a rather HUGE temporary file located on the Hard Disk. Every computer needs memory but people can't just afford 1GB or 2GB of memory. Don't get me wrong though, if you have a 1GB PF space you don't have 1GB of RAM. Physical RAM is the actual RAM and its hudreds of times faster than the HDD.

Ohhh wow that's really interesting! =) overture, there is cPanel provided by asta host... I was at inuration so i;ve used cpanel. I think its called Web Protect (htaccess editor)? I'm not too sure...

Laptop Slowing Down? Heres one method that can work
currahee replied to currahee's topic in Hardware Workshop
Well... it would dramatically improve performance when the condition is bad or severe. Though if you want you can wait until it gets really clogged up and then dust it out and see the performance gain. Your fan will also work less frequently when you clean the dust off. -
Actually Microsoft DOES have a lot of programmers and they work in different departments. So its not like all of them are working at several things at once. What's BAD is that Office developers for example don't know any source in Windows XP since Microsoft guards it pretty well. When they program Office they are prety much bindfolded as they can't take advantage of the features in Windows XP and integrate it into office. And the 'always need to be patched' part: Windows XP is built on top of Windows NT. Windows NT was introduced somewhere in 1993? and Windows NT is basically the Microsoft version of IBM's OS/2 which was developed when Microsoft and IBM were partners. So if you're using technology that's that old, really what can you expect? Though Linux has twice as much as holes than Windows itself.

Windows Longhorn The next generation operating systems
currahee replied to bryandel's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Well XP Service Pack 2 had some Longhorn technology transferred to it such as the prevention of the buffer underrun attacks. As far as holes go dissipate, don't get too excited. Its still built on top of Windows NT which is quiet disappointing to me. Microsoft although its painful should really start making a new Windows core that can emulate Win9x/WinNT programs. -
OMG ROTFLMAO!!!!! Well said! lol gotta show that one to my friends hehehe...Oh yes, and do be careful of what you see in AIM profiles. The infamous "I cant' believe I found such and such's picture here!" message. Its a trojan but the site claims its not a trojan. There's also a not removing removal tool on the website.Stay away from suspicious sites!!!! especially ones that look corny! (like when you type a domain and a site pops up that says the domain is on sale)

Securing your computer And actually making it run :-P
currahee replied to currahee's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Ahhh practices! I forgot about to add that section Actually for patches, if you don't use WMP and IE and if you also install a firewall you should be fine without any vulnerabilities But yes, I have to agree Patching and updating is one of the most important things you have to do -
Stop anything from making it ur homepage!
currahee replied to Thunder1405241469's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Actually I don't think the feature exists in Spybot Search and Destroy 1.3. It was in Spybot Search and Destroy 1.2 however -
There was a program that had a similar name to Spybot Search and Destory that was spyware. Spyware Search and Destroy is NOT spyware itself. Where you heard that I have no clue. Where did you hear it anyway? If you're still a bit suspicious go here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ And you'll see press coverage of spybot. If its spyware how come it got press coverage and people love it? It also won some awards as well

Well at least it is better than having NO support for drivers at all. At least ATi does make drivers for the Linux Operating Systems. You know its harder for me since I have a laptop. Most of all the parts made in laptops are customized so support for Linux is very low.

Windows Longhorn The next generation operating systems
currahee replied to bryandel's topic in Websites and Web Designing
The release was pushed back to 2006-2007 officially from 2005 due to work on Microsoft's Windows XP Service Pack 2.With the push back to 2006, Microsoft has decided to axe the dev time and removed WinFS. Now they are facing pressure as WinFS was a main component of Windows that was highly anticipated. It basically a faster and more organized memory manager let's say and Microsoft removed it.I have no clue where the fate of Longhorn lies. And they're not Beta copies. Microsoft has not publicly announced a Beta. They're all alpha builds.
