  1. I've heard that C is completely different from C++. If you want to learn C then C++, just learn C++ or one or the other because it would be much more eaisier. Also I think Java is really really hard. Even worse than C++ itself. I would just stick with C++ or Visual Basic
  2. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ after some couple of days, I finally went ahead and sacrified the forums so I can install PHPNuke. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ <-PHP Browser game I installed on my website register and play it! its really good!
  3. Celeron's are very bad. I don't care about the processor speed, its performance is horrible. I mean even for a budget CPU, it only has what... 128KB of L2 cache which hinders its performance A LOTGokul- i386.... you have a 386 processor? Well my PocketPC is powered by an Intel PXA270 312MHz processor, the best there is right now (model, that is. There is a 624MHz version that only Dell Axim's have)Oh yeah while we're at it,My Laptop- Athlon XP 2200+ m (Thoroughbred 128KB L1, 256KB L2)My sis' desktop- Intel Pentium 4 2.0GHz (Northwood 16KB L1, 512KB L2)My Pocket PC- Intel PXA270 312MHzMy TI-83+- ZiLOG z80 8MHz
  4. I am both excitied and worried about Longhorn at the same time. If its a huge faliure, Microsoft will have a huge problem on their hands. As you know, Longhorn isn't a simple Operating System to run. Heck, I think you need a computer from 2003 to even run it decently enough. It will be a major problem for laptops too, as I tihnk it will drain the batter faster than ever
  5. Well IBM is still strong, their PCs are like so freakin' reliable.Microsoft will NOT follow the footsteps of BSD or build Windows based on Linux. That's what I think. They will try and build on their old WIndows NT 3.1 kernel (1993) and try and steal Apple's ideas. How's that lol
  6. Then why not apply for a mod position then? Daniel- .. how DO you live with those specs?! You really should get a new computer. You can't run ANYTHING with that arcaic computer!
  7. You shouldn't add it here, this is not the forum category to place your support request at
  8. Well then again its eaisier to make software than hardware right? Processors are etched using ultraviolet light and are manufactured in highly controlled rooms where the temperature must be perfect and the air must be as clean as possible (no dust).
  9. WinXP- The most stable Windows version ever. I can't believe after 11 years, they are still developing on top of the Windows NT core. Windows NT 3.1 was released in 1993 and today, Windows XP is built on top of that, as is Win2k and NT4.WinXP also runs games better and faster than Windows 2000. Its like Windows 98SE and Windows 2000 combined. Visually, its on par with Windows 2000. Win2000 just doesnt have that luna XP interface. I remember t he hype so much about XP Win2000- Not a bad OS, marginally less stable than XP but it still works fine. Visually its a cleaned up Windows NT4/Windows 98SE interface and some nice GUI effects added on. Kinda really bad for running games though. Its a business work OS, not a gaming hobbist OS.WinME- Worst OS ever! I think that's all there is to say about that.Win98SE- Microsoft did a good job with SE. They cleared up and well implemented the IE 4 integration (... is that right? Though at the cost of creating so many security holes....). It was more stable and had Plus! pack built in.Win98- Horrbile OS. Microsoft didn't integrate IE4 well, resulting in slowdowns and too many crashes to bear.
  10. Yes macs do get them, and they (cookies, not macs lol) can be a bad privacy invasion tool. It wouldn't hurt to clear out the cookie cache once every so often, but be warned: for sites where you have it set to so that you will automatically log in, you will need to reenter your password and handle and also have it checked for the automatic log in again.
  11. Can I ask something? why would you want to cool a CPU? I would understand if you owned a mobile device like a tablet PC or a laptop. Cooling would be a big issue because the CPU fan eats up a lot of power. But I mean... you own a desktop... unless if its like extreme heat 40-60 degrees celcius why be worried?
  12. Its impossible to 'overcharge' a battery I guess... well it would be but it would be rare unless you were using a third party battery that was not approved for your laptop.Batteries have normal degredation over time. They do not hold the same charge every single time. Its also bad practice to charge, empty, charge, empty repeatedly with the battery. I did that about 35 times and now my battery capacity is 50% of the original! If you want to store your battery it will live longer if you make it hold a 40% charge... but don't deplete it
  13. Woah woah woah wait... they're getting rid of the .NET framework? I thought Longhorn was the next iteration of the .NET framework...And shipping WinFS in a future service pack in 2012 is crazy. Longhorn will be 6 years old by then! I think you mean a much more earlier date.DirectX has NOTHING to do with OpenGL based games. THey might render correctly and unless Microsoft does something like reverse compatibility, Direct3D based games (yes, even OpenGL games since they use DirectSound) will not completely work at all.Oh yeah, i've seen an early build of longhorn. One of my friends got a PDC build by going to a conference. WinFS took a lot of memory up (180MB of RAM/180MB of Virtual memory)
  14. http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/desktops/desktop-products.htmlNo, take a look again. The first intial Pentium 4 releases were 1.3GHz, 1.4GHz, and 1.5GHz. However, their performance is negligible compared to that of the 1.0 and 1.2GHz Pentium IIIs. You won't start seeing a lot of performance boost with Pentium 4s until you get in the 1.7+ GHz range when comparing them with Pentium III processors. As for the 900MHz, I just saw that on a star surplus ad on PC magazine. I'm skeptical about that too since it would be really useless... a P4 running at 900MHz =P
  15. The 1.5GHz Pentium 4 was in the first batch of Pentium 4 releases. 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5GHz versions were released... I also saw some 900MHz versions too. They have 16KB of Trace execution L1 cache and 256KB of L2 cache. On the contraty Athlons (thunderbird) have 128KB of L1 cache and 256KB of L2 cache. And hyper threading only improves performance in some cases... the most you'll get in average is about 3-5% more performance but that's like a small amount of performance improvement for people to use the feature
  16. cPanel is indeed very useful! it also eases the pain of installing scripts for example like phpNuke or phpbb2 on your server. It also allows the easy maintenance of your server and its also very easy to add accounts, email accounts, and other stuff. I think its well worth the $1000+ price tag
  17. Okay, all devices emit a radio signal, which includes all class B devices which are for home and office use. They emit a radio signal but some devices such as cell phones and PDAs (wireless internet) can emit a stronger signal that can interfere. That's the problem. Gameboys are perfectly fine
  18. Yeah but then you would think, "wouldnt the equipment onboard already be sheilded from those kinds of stuff?"Well actually newer planes are immune to it. Some older planes are not.
  19. Actually someone made a VBscript program that gets rid of it for you. Might reduce some headaches... not too sure but its cool. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_messenger_remove.htm Oh and also even if you use Windows Messenger, its probably better to use MSN Messenger as its more customizable and it saves your conversations if you want it too
  20. The problem i see was that when I played Medal of Honor Allied Assault the frame rates were dipping below 15fps on 800x600x16 med details. Didn't happen before. I cleaned it out and then itwas at 40-50fps. Not exaclt 4x increase but close enough to make it worth cleaning out.
  21. Well actually the thing is is that you get lost, you hopelessly fly around with flawed controls and no navigational system and you crashland not knowing where your position is in the world or you run out of fuel and crash in the sea. I think no one wants that =P
  22. Well see thats the problem. Firefox is open source. If people start to use Firefox more than Internet Exploder... then hackers will exploit the source for FireFox and it will become a less appealing browser for users everywhere. Meh i'm sticking with IE... too hard to migrate to another browser though I do have Mozilla dusting on my laptop's hard drive
  23. Technically the Pentium III 1GHz is generally a lot cooler than Pentium 4s and athlons and they consume not a lot of power. Celerons... you really shouldn't use them at all... They are essentially pentium 4s with a quarter of the cache. Performance is dull on them and you're much better off getting an athlon at the same speed for a MUCH MUCH cheaper price
  24. Actually you know what? you guys should head over to Paul thurrott's website and read his article on how to slipstream Windows XP service Pack 2 onto your Windows XP CD so you will not need to reinstall Windows XP service Pack 2 evertime you reinstall XP or wait a long time for XP SP2 to finish installing.Actually I highly recommend slipstreaming, its more convenient and the OS runs much better if its slipstreamed in the first place
  25. If you guys wanted to know, devices that emit wireless signals (e.g. cell phones, pocket PCs) can interfere with the plane's navigational systems. Turning on a cell phone or a pocket PC and using them to use the internet or to place a call theoretically can bring down planes. Not a good thing
