  1. I help run a server, so I get free hosting there :)Xisto was my favourite free host in 2004
  2. Nice . They bought WebPlanetHost back in the day, didn't they?Does WHM make the accounts read only when it's transferring a backup? I didn't know that. I'm quite sure it would need to run rdnc to update the DNS zones in BIND9, and also add the new Virtual hosts into /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf. Then it needs to restart Apache. Also, the backup takes quite a lot of CPU time (Unarchiving a large .tar.gz file is hard work ) P.S I just thought I'd drop in to say Hi, I haven't been here for about 18 months
  3. well i got an account with WebPlanetHost when it was owned by the old owner... he gave me a free domain name for writing a mod for Simple Machines forum (http://www.simplemachines.org/). So, i got my account for free with WebPlanetHost... i've got 2 accounts with them actually (yes, i got permission to do so). The setup fee is a once-off and there's no monthly charges so it is still considered free hosting (as opposed to 'Completely Free Hosting') As well, their forum has no ads on it, and they don't force you to post (although i've got about 270 posts there). But i must admit, not many people come to their forum anymore WHAT THE HELL is up with this... I came to this forum, and it says: HOSTING CREDITS : 12821.88 ?!?!?!!?!??!!?!?!?! --daniel15 P.S the Xisto forum has been up for a while, WebPlanetHost has only been up since December 2004 (when their forum was running SMF)... the first post ever is here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  4. hi, i was just wondering if you can delete my account, i've moved from Xisto to a much better host...
  5. well, have you seen the forum at WebPlanetHost.com (http://www.webplanethost.com/) -- that's a large forum that uses SMF, its much bigger than this one (at least i think) 1070 Topics, 7363 posts, 1082 members (and as well as that, they're using my SMFShop mod ). Actually, they've got a good idea that i reckon Xisto should use. If you refer someone to their hosting services (whether free or paid), they will give you more bandwidth, more space, etc. Also you can get more bandwidth, space, a free domain, etc. just by making posts. Also from memory (i'm not sure of this), if you pay them $2 via paypal, they will add more bandwidth to your account (again, i'm not sure of this)... and just if you were wondering, the reason i know all this about webplanethost is that they are hosting one of my websites (i have 3, and 1 is with Xisto) and i had to help the admin install SMFShop --daniel p.s I think this is the longest post i've ever made
  6. the only thing, i just noticed that the accounts you give away with the webmaster thing is only 4 MB... to increase the limit you have to pay ...Anyway, i signed up for the 'Branded' service. When it asks you to change the MX entries, just go into your cPanel and click on 'Modify Mail Exchanger (MX Entry)' and then follow your nose from there --daniel15
  7. dude, that was just what i was looking for... zzn is getting really annoying... i'm just signing up now and by the way, there is a website with 1 terabyte (1024 GB) email, i think it is hriders.com or something like that --daniel15
  8. i contacted OpaQue about installing smf in the addon scripts installer, but he said he couldn't (so now i'm uploading smf and installing it myself...). Also i asked him if he might convert the Xisto forum to smf and he said that a lot of work has been put into this forum (you can tell with all the mods and the ads that appear in forums, etc, etc, etc)
  9. hmmmmmmm... i tried to go to your website but it wasn't up... the dns for your domain is timing out and for the guy who said this about 100webspace: they were down because of hurricanes or something, which destroyed some of their servers. currently on 100webspace, uptime is close to 100%
  10. I can't seem to find your script. I go to the http://www.hotscripts.com/ page and click on 'VISIT'. I then get to some 'Computer Simulated Fantasy Hockey League' webpage... have i missed anything here
  11. i use paint shop pro 7 as it's got everything that i need. I don't need new advanced tools like whatever's in PSP9... What I usually do in PSP is rotate text and scribble usually... i'm not that good at art. Also i tried PSP9 once and it took ~35 seconds to load on my computer (350mHz), whereas PSP7 loads in ~4-5 seconds.
  12. hi, could you guys please add simple machines forum (smf - http://simplemachines.org/) to the addon script installer in cPanel, as simple machines is a great forum! --daniel15
  13. ah yes, Aspell... Opera (the web browser) uses it for spell checking as well. The website for Aspell is http://aspell.net/ . I think that they've only got the source code to download, so you'll have to get someone to compile it for you. If it can be used as a CGI program (i've only ever used the windows dll of Aspell), then i suppose you could try putting it in the /public_html/cgi_bin/ folder of your web hosting and see if it works... maybe...?
  14. Here's simply what you do to network 2 computers:1. Buy network cards (no-name cards are about AU$15 here) and install (find PCI connector [they're white] and slot network card in)2. Configure network cards (Let Windows detect them, then set up TCP/IP settings [Control Panel -> Network] First computer IP: 192.168.0.1, second computer IP: 192.168.0.2)3. Buy CAT5 crossover cable (i found a cable cheap - AU$6 for 7 metre)4. Plug in cableIf you have more than 2 computers to network then keep numbering IP's in that order (192.168.0.3, 192.168.0.4, etc), and you have to buy the following:* a hub or switch* standard network cable instead of crossover cablethat might make NO sense to you, but i'm not a networking expert... I'm doing the cisco networking course next year so then i learn about configuring routers and stuff.... anyway, someone here might know more about networking than I do
  15. when you try and delete an unempty folder with FileZilla, it will recursively go through the folder, making a list of all the files. It then deletes all the files in one go, and then deletes the foldersanother way to delete the folder would be to use http://www.net2ftp.com/ to connect to the FTP, and delete the folder through there. It's much quicker than waiting for FileZilla to scan the whole directory
  16. well, everyone.net offers a webmail thing where you basically change your MX entry to their server (MX entry is basically a thing which tells email servers where to route your email, in case you didn't know what it is). Then people can signup for accounts through your website, but the accounts are really stored on their servers. Unfortunately for me, since it has ads, they require a large North American audience on your site (they rejected my signup because most people visiting my site are Australian).. but if you are an American it would be OK.Another service is zzn.com. They give you yourname.zzn.com. Eg, you could get honmore.zzn.com and people can sign up for theirname@honmore.zzn.com. This is what I use for my website (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ), and you don't have to mess around with the MX settings (which is actually really easy, but anyway...)
  17. hi, on this forum there appears to be no link to the members list, so here it is... you'd be suprised what you can see from this page. I'm the 21st highest poster, which is good on a forum of ~500 people... and, there is about 55 people who have made 0 posts!?
  18. :) T1 internet?!?!?!?!?!? :) oh man thats fast. i bet most of us here are stuck with a 56k modem (that includes me ) i don't want to even try to compare your computer to my 350mHz box... well anyway i might get a new computer one day, this one cost AU$70
  19. they're all great! did you make these yourself?? i don't really like the second html one as much as the first html one and the flash one. oh and by the way you've got lots of typo's on them-- "please don't forget to sign my guestbook eighter" "... suscribe to my mailng list" "... you can do that very easely" "Only the best suff is listed here" "can simply copy and past in to your own webpage" sorry but typo's seem to just pop out to me, i mean my friend was showing me his website and in about 2 seconds, i pointed to the screen and mentioned the typo. --daniel15
  20. i don't show up in the last 20 visitors list....? someone else from melbourne australia is accessing the site but its not me... anyway... most of the stuff in the hit counter is good to have public. people like to see who visits the site, what countries the main audience is, etc... On one of my websites I use a free hit counter from cqcounter.com
  21. astahost is one of the best free webhosts, it's just great! here there's ~98% uptime which is pretty good for a free webhosts. If you're looking for other webhosts with good uptime (that i've tried), see these:100webspace.com - Great uptime (it's run by an actual company). I had a problem once, and they replied in 2 minutes!!iNeedHosting.net - the webhost i use for my other site. you get 30mb space and 300mb bandwidth (from memory). apart from those small amounts, uptime is great (100% for past 2 or 3 months!!!! YES, 100% uptime!)
  22. The Invision board 1.3.1 that is included in Fantastico is the Trial version. However, it is not limited (like they did to version 2). I'm sure if you look on the phpBB site you will find a converter for Invision Board... anyway, my favourite forum used to be invision board but it is now SMF (http://www.simplemachines.org/), its just so good!! And easy to mod (once you figure everything out).
  23. ah cool this is great! finally some people trying to stop spambots. I'm gonna donate some MX records to Project Homey Pot, since i've got a .INFO domain i'm not using...
  24. ftp host: ftp.yoursite.astahost.comusername: your cpanel usernamepassword: your cpanel passwordif you create an ftp username in cPanel, then you have to login as username@yoursite.astahost.comeg. my site is stickboarder.info. If i add a FTP user called 'bob' then I would have to use the following login details:host: ftp.stickboarder.infousername: bob@stickboarder.infopassword: the password i chosehope that helped--daniel15
  25. yay we've got at least a couple of aussies here oh yes speaking of australia i just noticed there is a hit counter on this forum (look to the right of the 'Welcome to Xisto!....." message at the top). Anyway, this hit counter says that Australia is the #2 country to access this site! (#1 is USA with 2,913 pageviews today, then Australia with 361) have a look here: http://www.onestat.com/aspx/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fapp%2fstart.aspx then click on 'Geography' on the side
