  1. i've made some simple games with a DOS game creation program called 'Megazeux' (based on ZZT) as well as with a program called 'Klik And Play'. Some of my friends are making simple games in Flash so i am considering starting to make games in flash (i currently only use flash for programming)
  2. basically in your ftp client, set the following:Host: your domain or subdomain (eg. for me it is stickboarder.uni.cc)Username: your username for cpanelPassword: Your passwordUpload all your files to /public_html/ directory in FTP programIf you need help with any of the options in cPanel, there is an internal help file for it. IF the help file isn't much help, feel free to ask me about anything in cPanel --daniel
  3. My favourite OS is Windows, as it is the standard. Most/All hardware is compatible, and it is just easy to use.
  4. yay i'm using that same processor, pentium II 350mhZ
  5. VBScript is ok if you know Visual Basic, but it is only compatible with IE. I used to use VBScript for a while, but now my interest is PHP.
  6. Setting 'File System' to 'Network Server' makes your computer faster because it optimizes the file system. More data is cached when reading from the disk, so reading in files is faster. Does anyone know other ways to speed up my computer, as some of the stuff i do on it is really slow (Pentium II 350mHz w/Windows 98 SE) daniel
  7. hey, can someone tell me how Xisto pay for the cPanel - do they get the non-profit license?
  8. all i can suggest is sign up for an account at zoneedit.com, and set the dns of your .info account to ns1.zoneedit.com and ns2.zoneedit.com. Then, login to your zoneedit.com and follow the instructions to set up dynamic DNS.if you need any further help, just ask.daniel
  9. some people skip version numbers on purpose, eg. a while ago, microsoft skipped from version 2.0 of Word to version 6.0, just to catch up with the version numbers of WordPerfect ("If WordPerfect has a higher version number then it sounds better" or so they say)another example is with WinAMP from version 3 to version 5 (skipping 4). They did this because the new version has the best features of winamp 2 and 3 (2+3=5)the versioning i use for my software is major.minor/release, eg. original release: version 1.0bugfixes: 1.01, 1.02, 1.03minor new features: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4bugfixes: 1.41, 1.42major recode: 2.0get it?
  10. no, you can't download it legally because it is still for sale. i think that once it is abandonware (no updates for 5 years), you would be able to download it, but by that time it will be obsolete......and if you could download it legally then no-one would buy it
  11. my computer is:Pentium II 350mHz64mb ramc: drive is 3.2gbd: drive is 4.1gbATI rage pro 3d 4mbOn-board sound (i think it's SoundMAX)CD-Burner (Creative 24x10x40)52x cdrom driverunning windows 98 SE
  12. Yes, php supports ms access databases through ODBC. i've actually got a web server installed on my computer called 'Xitami' that i use to test PHP scripts. If you have any trouble with configuring php.ini, i'll send you my one and you can see what you have to edit in it
  13. i'm not sure whether this is off-topic or not, but i don't use phpbb, i use invision board and my favourite mods for it are Shadow Arcade and IBShop
  14. that's an interesting concept, but i think no web servers have this functionality... hmmmmmm it could be fairly easy to make if a web host wrote their own smtp server
  15. i used to have hosting at 1asphost, until i learned php :)if you want a good webhost with instant activation, you should try 100webspace.com (you get a url like yoursite.everywebhost.com). i've got hosting with Xisto (stickboarder.uni.cc)the only things i really need in a host is about 40-50mb webspace, a good amount of bandwidth, php and mysql
  16. the linux versions are free???? anyway, if you can, get the academic / 'educational' version - it is exactly the same but the splash screen says 'For educational use ONLY'... you can get it really cheap if you are a student.
  17. i would put ads on my website if you asked me to. your webhosting is great, i mean look at all the features! i reckon a good way to support you guys is with some sort of affiliate program. basically you give us a url that we give to our friends. when we go to the url (which would look something like http://forums.xisto.com/affiliate.php?id=daniel15) a whole heap of popups appear (which you would get money from), and it adds one credit to our account. once we get to, say, 200 credits you could give us some upgrade options, eg. free extra 100mb space or something. the only thing is i'm not sure what upgrade options you could give, the webhosting is already pretty good!
  18. what do you mean by 'Javascript provider'? if you mean a website that has javascripts, http://www.javascriptsource.com/ is good. all webhosts support javascript, as it is client side (runs on client as opposed to server). most popular internet browsers support javascript
  19. invision board is free if you use the trial version. i'm not really sure why but i like Invision Board better, because you can get stuff such as IBShop/IBStore for it.well, what i think is any forum is good if it does what you want it to do and has the features you need
  20. best php editor: phpEdit (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/)best cPanel extension: fantasicobest website for php scripts: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ server software: xitami (in my opinion easier to administer and use than apache)
  21. if you want to know how to make dlls in visual basic, download my submission to planet-source-code.com: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Quoting what i said on the submission: i was working on a new version of this, but my old computer died and i can't be bothered starting again.
  22. cPanel is great! Unfortunately it costs. There are some free control panels that mimic cPanel and use PHP. look on http://www.hotscripts.com/ in the php category and you might find a free one. it won't be as good as cPanel, but what do you expect if it's free?
  23. Ports used by instant messengers:Msn Messenger: 6891 (but port 1863 is used to log on)ICQ: 5190Yahoo: 5050 (port 80 used sometimes)these are the only ones i know since i don't use any others. yahoo messenger would be pretty hard to block on a firewall since you can configure it to use port 80 (standard www port)oh, by the way for OpaQue: the port for cPanel is 2082 (or 2083 for https access)
  24. if you are asking where the files for your website are in the ftp, then the answer is /www/ and /public_html/ (both are the same). Subdomains are usually stored at /www/subdomainname/ or /public_html/subdomainname/ but from memory are customizable in cPanel.
