I'd disagree, it's hard enough trying to figure how to unmount my usb flash drive in Mandrake (unlike in xp where you just have to right-click and press "safely remove hardware"), why in the world should I bother doing more complicated things? For some people coding in the command prompt is just too abstract and besides that is so jurassic, it's the age of the GUI's everything has to be graphical not text-based. Command prompt is just too intimidating. And Computers are not my field anyway so why the in the world should I spend so much time learning how to unmount a usb flash drive in the terminal when I can just right-click and "safely remove hardware" in windows xP?

What I was asking actually is, how does the computer or whatever it is that works, now that you clicked the mouse and not pressed it? public void mouseClicked( MouseEvent event ){ statusBar.setText( String.format( "Clicked at [%d, %d]", event.getX(), event.getY() ) );} // end method mouseClicked// handle event when mouse pressedpublic void mousePressed( MouseEvent event ){ statusBar.setText( String.format( "Pressed at [%d, %d]", event.getX(), event.getY() ) );} // end method mousePressed As you can see from above, I am just passing an event without anyway of knowing what the actually happened -- press or click? A bit, but I Still don't understand how the methods know what actually happened -- press or click? Because, if you come to look at it, you're just passing an event but you don't get any attribute of the the event in the method? for instance in public void mouseClicked( MouseEvent event ){ statusBar.setText( String.format( "Clicked at [%d, %d]", event.getX(), event.getY() ) );} you have no way of knowing if the user actually clicked the mouse because you don't know what happened. I was thinking of calling a get method like so: event.getWhatHappened();if (event.getWhatHappened == clicked) {mouseClicked();}public void mouseClicked( MouseEvent event ){ statusBar.setText( String.format( "Clicked at [%d, %d]", event.getX(), event.getY() ) );} get what I mean? so my question is how does the method know what actually happened?

I'm having a hard time understanding mouse motion listener and mouse listener. What I know is that it's an interface and it's supposed to be overriden, but what I don't understand is how on earth does each of the methods know what the event just did. How does method mouseClicked know that the mouse was just clicked and not pressed? As you can see, well at least to me, there's not telling how given only the passed event. I was expecting something inside the method that would go like: event.getWhatHappend(); something like that then so you can go on with the rest of the code and say that it was actually pressed or clicked. public void mouseClicked( MouseEvent event ) { statusBar.setText( String.format( "Clicked at [%d, %d]", event.getX(), event.getY() ) ); } // end method mouseClicked// handle event when mouse pressedpublic void mousePressed( MouseEvent event ){ statusBar.setText( String.format( "Pressed at [%d, %d]", event.getX(), event.getY() ) );} // end method mousePressed

Ok but I have yet to see a linux release on PC where the GUI is as good or better than Windows. Maybe you could help me out. Do you know of any? And what about photoshop? can I make it run on linux? So far, what I am getting in google are just articles about the possibility of photoshop running on linux.

I know linux is very good at a lot of things but it still isn't user friendly. It's for geeks not for so-so computer users who wouldn't know the first thing to do when he needs to install new hardware on his machine running on linux. hat's why I prefer to use Windows instead. It's more convinient and besides a lot of the applications I use run on Windows anywayz like Photoshop. You know what? I think unless Linux keeps up with Windows in terms of its being user friendly and in terms of having more applications run on it, it's never going to be used widely and a lot of people would have to think hard before making a switch.

Linux - Why It Fails As A Desktop Operating System?
Jeune replied to red_dragon_here's topic in Operating Systems
I think one other aspect where linux is not good at is the GUI (I used Mandrake when I started programming). I just think it sucks. Yeah it's too geeky, dull and boring. I don't know if it's just me and that I have gotten used to Windows GUI. Either way, the windows feel is still better. I don't know much about the technical issues you're talking about but yes I'd have to agree that it's such a downer to recompile applications and reconfigure hardware. I mean how user unfriendly can you get? When I mounted my usb drive in one computer that had linux, I couldn't figure how to unmount it. Then in another desktop I could, so it speaks of how linux is so inconsistent. You have to give windows the credit, they've set a, more or less, a good standard for operating systems, security problems and other things aside. -
The site is great but most of the templates here I also saw from other websites so I was a little disappointed because I saw nothing new despite you guys giving it rave reviews.

My classmate told me that Limewire is written in Java. I don't get it. I tried looking up the limewire program in my harddrive and found out that the shortcut we click to run limewire is actually limewire.exe. I'm curious, how can it be that something written in Java be a .exe file? Aren't java programs supposed to run on the Java Virtual Machine and be .class files?

Ah programming! didn't he put any documentation?or comments? i have to agree, it's hard to read code that's undocumented. How about trying to put comments yourself? I mean, you work with the code many times, so put some comments in it so the next time you read it, you wouldn't have to grit your teeth again.

Mine would be Wanton Noodles, Shrimp Dumpling, Vegetable Dumpling and Pork Siomai. Haha! And did I mention California Maki, Sashimi and all the sushis there are in the world. Actually that's not a "meal" per se but, if I were to eat anything for one year, I'd have those more than anything else.

Width Of Display Area Of Browser Window is there a formula?
Jeune replied to Jeune's topic in Programming
It's hard to use that especially if I have the other tables within the larger table require that they be measured in pixels. For instance, I want the large table to contain a separator (like cellpadding) of width 10px, how I am supposed to compute for the measurements of the other tables so that they add up to the larger table holding them? here's a "graphic" explanation of my problem: <Table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=100% align=center><tr><td=??><td width=10><td=??></table> -
I am making a table in a website that's as big as the display area of the browser for instance: <Table border=0 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=?? align=center>.........</table> How do I know the width of the browser display area? Better yet, is there a general formula for that for other screen resolutions? I know a little bit of javascript, are there functions for that?

Disproving Mormonism A few facts that disprove the mormon faith
Jeune replied to Prox's topic in General Discussion
I'm a Catholic and I don't know much about the Mormons but I say you make a very compelling argument. As a matter of interest,Prox, do you have anything against Mormons? -
This is my first short story -- sudden fiction to be more exact. Tell me what you think. A FORTUNATE ACCIDENT JEFF? YOU GAVE MY NUMBER TO JEFF? I was supposed to tell you but that born loser texted you before I had the chance. No I mean how do you know Jeff? We?re orgmates in Los Banos. We were just sort of talking about you last Friday, we?re a starting a business eh. But how does Jeff know that you know me? He doesn?t?I mean he didn?t. Huwhaaat? Ok so I met Mr. Llangco the other day and he told me that Jeff met you. Where did Oliver come from? Uhm from Los Banos last Thursday? He?s taking his masters units in Sociology in Diliman. I didn?t mean that silly. You mean he was your teacher? I thought you were taking Computer Science? He wasn?t, never was and never will be. So how do know you him? He?s a good friend. Ma?m Leslee had us introduced. Who in the world is Leslee? Psych teacher. Did you take Psy1? In Los Banos? No. You should, it?s easily unoable. Maybe next time. So where were we? Ma?m Leslee. Right and so? go on?. So I told you, she?s my psych teacher. One time she came to class complaining that her usb got busted and she needed to have it fixed somehow because she had a paper in there she had to submit to that afternoon. She?s taking what? Masters? Yeah. And so I, wanting to show off my Computer Science prowess, told her I can fix it. Were you? What do you think? Then? As a sign of ?gratitude? she treated me to dinner the night I gave back her usb. That?s when I met Oliver, her officemate. Okay. But Jeff and Oliver how did they..? They?re fratbrothers Kaye. Jeff has been in school for seven years. But we just met this sem, how does Oliver know that you know me? Duh!? He doesn?t. I met him last Thursday because I asked him to get my transcript. Have you submitted your transcript? Yes. But how did he bring up the topic? How did you guys end up talking about me? You see, we kid with Jeff around all the time that he?s too dark and looks like Jerry Yan and how he can never come on to anyone. It?s guy stuff you won?t understand. So the first thing he, Oliver, did when we saw each other was gave me this grin and said Jeff met this lady in the mainlib who?s a library science major transferee from Los Banos who came on to him and asked if he was so. And so I thought of you and asked him if it was you he was talking about and then he said yes and we ended up laughing out loud, I was thumping the floor with my hand, because you did not give him your number. And that business with Jeff? Oh it?s a long story and I am bored. Let?s do something. Uhm What? I don?t care. Dinner perhaps? My treat.

thanks, it did help. But here's another thing I can't quite figure out: What does is mean by "UNNEEDED CARDS"?

I don't know how things work in your country. But in here, as long as you're a high school graduate you can enter any university of your choice assuming you pass their entrance exam. Yeah you could use that as a stepping stone but in my opinion you'd do a lot of memorizing -- specifically accepting a lot of facts. In studying Java Script for instance, I don't think, in a diploma course, they would explain concepts as Object-Oriented programming or inheritance and polymorphism. They'd teach you how to create and manipulate objects but not how the whole thing works. They'd teach you how to setup a network but the "science" behind it. Get the picture? I meant not the science behind it.

I have no idea actually but here's what I can tell you: why not get a degree in Computer Science instead? That way you'll have more options in case the demand for web developers decline. Computer Science is a broader field as compared to Web Develop"ering" and you also have programming and much more.

I have a programming assignment involving a poker card game. But since I don't play poker, I wouldn't know how to figure this instruction: I did my own research and saw that there are different types of hands that can come up when dealing a five-card poker hand: a pair, two pairs, three of a kind , four of a kind , a flush , a straight , a full house. I want to know which ones get get a high rating or low rating and what if none of those hands above appear what would be the rating of the hand? Thanks

The green one is the best for me. The others just look amateurish. Forgive me for being frank but its the best way I know to help you out. Cheers!

Largest Known Prime Number A very long number...
Jeune replied to sonyguy's topic in General Discussion
Not really. There are some numbers that end in 1 but are not prime. Take for instance 81. -
try also http://www.freeimages.com/. I haven't looked up Corbis.com. Sounds good though.

I go to the University of the Philppines Diliman. I never expected to be studying in U.P let alone in Diliman(because the University has many sub-units in different places in the country).
