  1. A warning stay away from mcafee, I recieved a free 1 year subscription and it's only been a hastle, too many things are done server side and forces you to make tons of passwords that have no meaning. User interface is horrible and you have to search for simple commands like turning off their annoying "privacy service" which was imposible and I had to set up a automatic sign in on startup.Sonicbj you should still keep Zonealarm along with norton, since norton focuses on viruses and zone alarms is much better at its focus of blocking rouge internet connections or blocking your computer's spyware trying to send your info out.
  2. I've always used pogo.com for all my online free chess needs, freechess.org just seems too competitive and serious for me. For a more social chess try pogo, always at least a few hundread people in chess and you can try bridge or other games while there. I never had any problem with peole abusing it since its mainly social, however most games do have a 10-15 minute timer for each side, and I like long games with plenty of thinking.
  3. Stunning, the grass in the third screenshot looks healthier then my backyard... Curse them for making a game life better then my real life, well there goes my next 3 years. Now if only I didn't get confused between the first thousand quests and the second, I really hope they put some easier implementation.
  4. I did a search of the members list to list everyone by join date. OpaQue joined 11 - June 04 and ravi joined 11 - June 04 and then faizy999 joined 16 - June - 04. So i'm guessing that's when the site first started. However, except for OpaQue the first members didn't stay(they have barely any posts) until Wassie 20 - June 04 and beyond. So the site realy started probobly 20 - June 04. So unless there was a server wipe, thats my estimate, as for .net, I heard it go up a week ago or something, but don't know any specific date.
  5. Well since Ao)K-General is in USEAST ladder and i'm not, you can have it Kilr. I'm USEAST nonladder, user name is CrazyHandz but you won't see me on it anymore so give me a time if you want it.I'd give you the account, but It's my trademark name, so we'll have to meet to give you the items. Even if you don't play USEAST I have some pretty good items to start out with, I remember some Enigmas, Bul-Kathos rings, Hotos, some duel isted ali baba and others. Basically PVP Necromancer and MF Hammerdin. I'll check back on this topic or you can pm me.
  6. In case someone dosen't like putting tons of programs like a deleting program(like me), you should try Start > Run > type msconfig and head to the startup menu, lets you take away those files which have restarting processes. Then restart your computer, wipe the hostile files, and live happy : ).
  7. It seems like you are trying to base your whole opinion on the army system which is meant to be played a minute or two each day. Try the game heroes of might and magic IV. I find that in rts its really hard to pull of tactics such as flanking or such, but in turn based you have such precision you can calculate tactics very proficently. Turn based dosen't mean you don't see the battle, my heroes example in fact has battles ranging many turns with each unit having unique abilities and seperate movement. I don't really see how you plan to change strategy in rts, you basically grab your force and set them against the enemy, once it begins its hard to manuever. In addition I want to add to my first list of great turn based games, space empries(which is the most customizable game ever with great multiplayer, 5th version coming out soon), chess(5 minute chess can make you think fast too), bridge, and Moo3(quite buged but most fixed in mods).
  8. I wonder why most people prefer real time strategies. It's really just a clicking contest. My votes for turn based, and I'd like to know why people like rts so much. They are enjoyable, but just can't compete with turn based yet. Yet just look at Xisto.com forums, no turn based subforum for game like civilization 1-4, heroes of might and magic1-5, lords of the realm1-3 among some popular ones. I'm glad at least they put a forum for the turn based strategy Army System used on this forum. But what makes halo, command and conquer, or other individual games more worthy of a subforum then the whole turn based strategy genre. I just want to note I don't have anything against real time strategy and I enjoy those games too.
  9. All multiplayer needed was unique missions on individual bases, I can't remember but I used to run a server with a mod that did that and it worked great. But that was long ago. During the early days of Freelancer development they actualy considered making it a massive multiplayer online role playing game, however considering the scope of the game I'm suprised they did such an amazing job already. My point being that if right now they made a expansion adding mmorpg mode with expanded missions for a purpose I would personally play that as my top game. The main story was great, but the open ended wasn't that open ended, there wasn't really anything else to do, just the potential that alot of mods used. Unfortunally modding never did gather enough freelancers for mmorpgs.
  10. I'm suprised no one mentioned AvP 2, it's usualy the favorite at the lans I go too, just insane variety of tactics like walking on walls for aliens and different views for predator. FPS aren't the only ones you can have a party with, warcraft 3 is great(especially the custom maps which have nothing to do with the game) and who can resist making yourself and your budies in sims 2 while you are all under influence, works great with the feminime side. We also play the usual halo and half life.BTW: Is it just me or are girls incredibly accurate in sniping? Made us quit playing Rouge Spear at our lans, the guys would get owned.
  11. Classic game, really makes you think with the complex solutions. I always seem to mess up near the end, just lost an expert game with only 2 open patches left while writting this. I guess my head just isn't big enough to beat it. They should put it on standardized testing in school.
  12. I recommend anyone who wants to try the army system takes elevenmil on his offer as joining midgame isn't as much fun as you have no chance of reaching the top. I started playing trap's army system a week ago and it's addictive, but being stuck in the ranks below users who do multiples of my damage is a little annoying. I'm heading over to sign up for the hockey system right now. However I do hope you didn't put in a secret click link for soilders elvenmil, and that includes a special one for you.
  13. You can add Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II if you have a ps2(came out Q1 04), the pc Baldur's Gate II is 4-5 years old so its outdated. A different type of rpgs I really enjoyed personally are the Final Fantasy series but only if you are geared toward a intense story(download the 8 pc demo to see if your like it but you won't get the story). I've played 7, 8, 9, 10, and 10-2 and I can't complain. 7 is best for the lines characters say, 8s probobly got the most intense story, 9 has cartoon style graphics, 10 looks most realistic, and 10-2 is basically a chick flick in a game, but obviously made by a guy considering the chicks wrestling in bikinis at underground hot springs
  14. I used to play diablo 2 USWEST till a couple of months ago. Checked my account and everythings expired, but yet I can log on. I don't intend to play again so first person who wants my items place their username and time(including time zone). Not sure if items are worth anything with the new patch, but I had a pretty good mf hammerdin and pvp spear/spirit necro.Awesome game, kept me addicted more then any other, now I just eat up all the little hints from Blizzard about DIABLO #3 and put Blizcon's voice impersonation contest with a guy talking like cain on a music cd. Priceless! Next year I'm gonna go to Blizcon and dress up like Mephisto for their costume contest.
  15. The way I see it is if the universe is flat, you will only travel up to the speed of light, but our universe it assumed to be very close to flat but not quite there, I speculate caused by random quantom flauctuations. Lately with all the talk about string theory and extra dimensions you can make a parallel to our world that allows of faster travel. Say we have a plane that goes speed of light, and it goes from Mexico to Poland, now traveling in a striaght path it will take longer then flying North and then back South to Poland. Imagine that this fourth dimension does exactly the same thing, but that would require our universe to be curved. These quantom flauctuations could be simulated one day and possibly result in squashing a fourth dimension to allow us to explore the stars. Isn't that what star trek does or do they just fold space?
  16. Sid finally released CIVILIZATION IV! It's the best civilization yet; improving on the few points lacking in Civilization III. The government system is expanded so no more just democracy and communism empires. Now you have 5 different aspects of government to pick the ones that really benefit your strenghts. Second, city AI is greatly enhanced, greatly reducing micromanagment and the annoying Civilization 3 polution (that would relocate your work squares even though your workers would clean it in one turn)is now totaly fixed. In fact I barely ever have to adjust the squares the AI picks. In diplomacy the computer still demends tribute and technology, but this time it remembers and improves your relationship(you can later ask it for stuff). None of this even considers the enhanced combat system, no more stacking dozens of mech infantry with modern tank and rampaging. It actualy helps to split up stacks and units have bonuses against other units creating much more unit variety. Now to be fair the bad: Sid put his own voice in the game, and it's just not right hearing him quote Napoleon or the Bible. It sounds like he's trying to seduce you, it scares me. The game does have a steep learning curve, I've been a Civilization fanatic since Civilization I and it took me half an hour to piece together the basics. Newbies will need to spend at LEAST an hour playing on easy mode to get a fix before they can spend days playing a real game . There were some kinks in the game, players seeing the "cheshire cat"(only see eyes/appendages of units) should download the patch and some people supposibly got the french technology tree. In addition I had my install disk and play disk labeled opposite.I rate it a 9.8/10 definite buy!
  17. I found the homeworld 2 campaign one of the best single player yet. Incredibly hard, and unlike other games where you always start with a capitol and worker type, you take your whole army along. It works perfectly because throughout the whole campaign your under attack and your be hard pressed to build up a full army let alone keep it at maximum force.Multiplayer is fun for some time, but after a few rounds I found it to be always the same, build up huge fleets and have a massive battle at the end. Not really too much strategy and tactics are too hard to pull of because of slow ship speed and hyperspace warping costs too much to send a massive fleet through.Conquest: Frontier Wars is also a excellent multiplayer space simulation. Each race having it's own tactics, however those tactics are also limited. Conquest 2: The Vyrium Uprising should be coming out soon, gamefaqs says Q3 2005 but there are few sources so I'm a bit worried.
  18. From someone who had 40 minutes of the eye of Wilma in West Palm Beach, Florida, I can say a fourth of all houses have some kind of roof damage here, traffic lights down everywhere. They do a good job cleaning the main streets quick. I just got power back after 5 days and plenty of my friends still are in the dark, mostly a bit south in Lake Worth. Construction of a bridge on Southern Blvd. had the poles up without the bridge onto, most of the poles snapped in half. According to my local newspaper about 20 people died when Wilma struck west coast at 125mph and left the east coast at 110mph. Curfew is still in effect varying from 9pm-11pm to 5am in all miami dade county.Nothing serious, but the tons of little stuff will take a year, including probobly another year of traffic lights deficit.
  19. The problem with the military isn't that they mess up countries like Iraq, it's cause they can't do a stupid single thing. I WAS thinking of joining, so I go to a recruiter and what do they tell me, I can't join cause of my Polish passport cause Poland is listed as a "hostile or unstable country". Poland's had a freakin' destroyer and special ops teams in Iraq when no one but Britian would lift a gun when U.S. invaded. This ain't no communist time, ain't no way to treat your ally. So the recruiter calls up some higher person, and they don't know what the hell is Poland doing on the list and no one knows what to do. Everyone is like whatever and drive me down to miami HQ I take a freakin' test get like 98/100 guy says I can probobly sign a contract for anything I want and then when It's the last test physical doctor says recruiters bleeped up and I'm missing ONE paper about ankle surgery. They make me sign a paper that I can walk without support and crap when the doctor can see me walk jump and do whatever he freakin' wants me to. Then the paper gets sent to tennessee and I haven't heard since, so much for the great American Military. On top of that I can't find the forsaken credits, did search where some guy pointed to the forum index but I don't see my *darn* number in the whole page.
  20. I'm not sure you understand how many people actualy still play diablo, its astronomical. Heck the game even costs 30 bucks in a store. It has died some cause it's old, but there just isn't a non pvp game that beats it(Guild Wars comes close) but alot of people can't afford those fast computers and diablo dosen't require much more then a puny 500mhrz with 128 ram.Plus the revamped harder difficulty and drastically new items make the game almost new with the same old story line.Everyone I know was at one point in his life a diablo fan, so as long as diablo 3 isn't pvp they have a huge fan base to work with already. Blizzard would be a fool not to abuse us.
  21. Another Sims expansion sounds great, can't wait for any new weird items they might have. I wish they would add getting drunk(from the bar), you can already kill sims with the cow plant, so why not some harmless wavering.I also got bored with the game after I first got it, mostly because I micromanaged. I made them all study to death, litterly. Then I learned the true way of playing.Gathered around sims 2 with some friends, took us 2 hours of hilarious fun as 8 of us made ourselfs(ofcourse we got plenty of new clothes(like 5 times the game standard) downloaded free from various sites). Then we made a basic house with some unique furniture and let it go fastest speed.PURE LAUGHTER: one guys sims always smelled with a green aroma, just like in life. My sim hit on my best friend's girlfriend's sim. A friend who always flashed his briefs had his sim walk in only them and so on including a gay sim couple, which explained alot.Try it you will love it!
