When I had 30 credits I signed up for hosting but it gave me 20 meg of space and I really need at least 100 meg, now when I sign in to the index it shows days in fractional amounts instead of credits. I need to know what I need to do in order to increase my webspace to at leat 100 meg because I run a Nuke site and want to put tutorials as well as include the PHP-Nuke HOWTO manual (12 meg alone) and a bare bones PHP-Nuke 7.7 is another 12 meg, that is 24 meg just for starters with no extra modules like Weather, Sentinal, or many other modules available for the Nukes.Just would like to know what I have to do because what I have right now is not sufficient to do what I need to do with a site.

Two Questions About Free Hosting TOS on language , ad
Houdini replied to bbsadm's topic in Web Hosting Support
If you run a CMS site like PHP-Nuke or XOOPS or POST Nuke your stuff is translated into more than 33 languages by default and you can add more. Try looking at a Nuke Site. Just search for PHP-Nuke and see what I mean. -
Thank you,I am working on one of my sites right now but will be to the link you provided very soon. I certainly appreciate the information and you taking the time to help me out.Houdini

Do you know where I might find this form? Or is it somewhere in the index?

I had made the appropriate number of posts and all and had about 32 credits, since the number of posts don't necessarily translate to number of credits... So I applied for a web site shich I have already uploaded SOME of my stuff to, however I got a site that is only 20 megabytes instead of 150 for the 30 credits, what happened and how do I get the additional webspace, because I want to put the PHP_Nuke HOWTO manual on my PHP-Nuke site, and the manual alone is 12 megabyte, and PHP-Nuke bare bones install is over 12 megabytes? I really need this sppace and certainly don't mind making a few posts, especially if I see an interesting topic on the forums on this site.

Well phpBB probably has more mods themes and add on then any of the others, you can pretty much make it what you want and if you use EasyMod many of these mods are as easy to install as clicking through a few screens. The attachment mod for phpBB2 is Attachment Mod try that and it is quite versitile, and does allow Flash, Video, Streams and more this is all done with the control panel in the Administration. You can even determine which forums attachemtns are allowed and who is allowed to use attachments in those forums... It is pretty sophisticated really...give it a try.

You need to be more specific...If you wanted to add a song to what, a web page, then Now that Internet Explorer recognizes the embed tag it would be safe to use embed or even an object tag to include an audio file, or you could use the bgsound tag but that worn't work with Firefox Netscapr or any Mozilla browser. If you could tell us a little more about what you are trying to do and how you want the sound to be presented, in a loop, or just play once, do you want to include controls, cause some people get into trouble at work for blaring out music from their computer. Do you want the song to play automatically or give the users a chance to either play it or not (as in the case of those that might get fired for playing your tune on company time).Just need to know more about what you are really wanting to do and all.

Well unless you are strictly a professional I would use Audacity along with Lame (which encodes MP3s) and they are both free. I ofer them both on my web site and you could get them and see if that is what you are looking for. I use them to take on air recordings and clean them up and then compress them to MP3s shich is a great file savings without almost no noticable quality difference. You can use this link Utilities Downloads and look for Audacity Audio Editor and Lame MP3 Encoder.

I used to run strictly phpBB after trying many others includeing the free version of Invision. Then I went to PHP-Nuke because the version 6.5 and above use phpBB for the forums. The biggest problem with it is that there are very few mods for phpBB that you can find that work with PHP-Nuke unless they are ported to Nuke, so I started porting my own, and am looking for an area here on this site, since that is what is of the most interest to me. I have looked around but most of the forums here are kind of general in nature...would I be asking too much if there were a new forum to be added for users like myself?

What Exactly are they supposed to be all about and could you provide a link to the site where you could find out more and perhaps download the software?
-
Well I basically told him to export with the qualifier to create if not exist so that the fields in his table if not present would create these fields and just have empty entries in them, which won't hurt anything but at least he will have his users data, I went to his site and he had a news article about a script that he was using to move his users over from the phpBB and I don't know if he ended up using a link to 8 BB to Nuke scripts that I pointed him to, but he told me in a PM that he was pretty much manually transferring them with export and import. I haven't recieved any further PM's so I guess he got things working the way he wanted, it is kinda hard to know though because he is a French Canadian and his English is not really that great...kinda have a small communication problem there.

I am not quite sure how to answer your query. First of all you need to know JavaScript, PHP or PERL or both, HTML and or now XHTML, and database query language like MySQL, and that is just to get started. It is possible to make (create or design a message board without a database but it would eat up a bunchof space on your hard drive and would work best using PERL because I actually had one that operated using PERL but with PHP and MySQL just about all message board now use the two in combination since they are both free and work well together. It is not possible to do this without downloading something. You would need a good editor program with features that far exceed those offered by the notepad or wordpad by Windows and you would need a webserver to test your scripts on, you would also need a database server, and then of course you would need information of some sort because you asked a question that requires more information...unless you want to spend alot of time online reading and printing information viewed on various websites you have to download something even if it is just a text file that helps you achieve your purpose. Are you browsing the Web with a Web TV that only allows you to surf and not download something? DOWNLOADING is the act of takinf information from another computer and placing it on you computer. If you have Outlook Express for Internet Explorer or Messenger for Netscape or Thunderbird with Firefox or Pegasus or Eudora or any other mail client you are DOWNLOADING. Please be more specific and let me know what exactly you really want to do without downloading...Why reinvent the wheel when the is Invivsion (this message board here uses it) or phpBB2 or Mercury, or Punbb or YaBB, or Spaltt and so on.

This might sound silly but what is the deal all about Gmail...what is it?What is this invite stuff? Why would I want to get it, why would I not want to get it, can I download it to my Outlook or Outlook Express? NEW to all this G Mail

I do know one thing about IPs a local host is always 127.0.0.1 put that as the IP address on both computers if asked, set the XP as the host and it should set the system up for you, since it will assign an address for the client (the Linux Box in this case) and then all you should have to do is run the program that the XP machine will provide for you. It does it fine between all my Windows machines, and after you run the wizard provided within XP you should not even have to worry about IP addresses

One of my users wants to transfer the data and so on from his phpBB2 to his PHP-Nuke CMS. I offered a link to Nuke Code that had 8 programs that deal with such matters. He replys that that is not really what he wants, to that the only response I could give was that since all he wanted to do was to export his phpbb_users table to his nuke_users table. To this reply he seemed to get the result he wanted but then stated that some of hid files as imported caused errors and I am sure this is the way he imported or perhaps the way he set up the export sql fileHow should I give this user a good way to take users on a highly modified phpBB2 and send it to a PHP-Nuke without causing errors?

My little thingy about posting or whatever credits states that I have more than enough for a Plan 1 or whatever...Just what does that mean to me? I make complete informative posts that probably really mean something although my spelling is not that great, that is why on my own site ther is a mod for checking your spelling... I guess suggesting a mod that I write to port to this system would be out of the realm of the forum, but that is what I do and I look at the BB Codes and wonder ... why aren't they like mine? http://dhost.info/content/view/104/ Try that and this aint advertising it is a real site that does this stuff and I do this for free Notice from microscopic^earthling: Next time onwards, be a little more careful as to where your posts are heading for. This isn't the right forum at all. Moved to Software > Bulletin Board Systems > phpBB.

Basically a ported mod is a modification that was written for a specific message board or somethinfg of that sort. In My World I port mods that are originally intended to work with the phpbb or phpbb2 message boards and make them compatible with the PHP-Nuke CMS (Content Management System) One of my greatest mods which I believe I could also port to this system which is an Invision or (IPB) Invision Power Board(Trial) v2.0.0 PF 3 © 2005 IPS, Inc. as stated in the footer of this board. I have now decided to port some mod for that board also because the "Plain Jane" BB Code that I see is dull and boring I am not advertising but just lookat my sites forums and see the difference...do this only if you want to but there is more to be offered, and I need programmers of all types but that site is a one man show, except I do look for quality people... Hacks Fixes and Mod is the Motto go there and see a Nuke site that Rocks with worknig mods. Ported Mods for PHP-Nuke And If you can do better than that then just give it a try and become a member and build mods for other systems...I do phpBB but you can do more make this a site that ports them all...Invision, phpBB,Yabb,Vbulletin, you name it Applications are taken after registration on Ported Mods Test Site>> Please allow this one man show some time to consider each and every one of you at this site <<

I have a copy of Win @k that is a legal copy with the number and all that silly stuff, what I want to know is right now I am running on 4Gig of hard disk, and if I install my Win XP and then try to put some other features like Office XP, then all my disk space is gone...So would I be better off to use the Win2K Porfessional software instead of the Win ME that I am presently using or would it eat up the rinky dinky hard drive I am left with on this machine? Notice from microscopic^earthling: Topic modified to suit context.

I Make ported mods for the PHP-Nuke and this means first of all I need to change the prefixes to al the tables that are in the phpbb database, because Nuke uses the prefix of nuke (of course) but there are nuances such as the users table in nuke is just nuke_users Let me start again, all phpbb or phpbb2 tables as created by the install unless changed by the user in the config.php file are phpbb_forum this or phpbb_users that but nuke has other tables in its database structure the data in those table by whatever name remains the same nuke_users has exactly the same structure as phpbb_users.What I basically do when I port a mod that requires a prefix or table name change is using an editor to globally replace all phpbb to nuke which work 9 of 10 times but I need to know a little more about MySQL to for instance modify a phpbb sql to work with my nuke sql queries, and actually work, and I am sure it is possible if the right commands are given in the php or txt or sql file.

It would help if you were just a little more specific but you would have to code using either DHTML or HTML form with selections(that is what the drop down boxes are is selections). I see that others have pretty much offered the same information but it would require javascript for sure to fire lets say a hidden form that only shows when you mouse over the image, and you would have to make sure that it is cross browser and from looking at the links provided you should get some really great free scripts there to do what you want. Let us know how it works out. Steve

Accessing The Ftp Server Help Please
Houdini replied to busdriver630's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Using ftp clients on various web hosts requires different infomation to be sent, usually in the case of a subdomain the ftp address will still be the main domain for example dhost.info. I have a subdomain there and the address to the site is http://dhost.info/content/view/104/ for me to ftp though the ftp address is ftp.dhost.info then I use a user name that was provided from the host (until I changed it to somthing that made sense) and my password was also assigned (which I also changed to make more sense) other web hosts may allow ftp acces by using a subdomain ftp address but I haven't seen too much of that. The user that had the question about ftp might have to use the address of ftp.marginoferror.com and it is even possible but not likely that it is an anonymous account with no password required but not very likely as anyone could go wreck that site with their own ftp client. se they will have a username and password either that they chose themselves or that was emailed to them when they opened their account. I haven't tried the site until just now and it is nonexistent this could be a spelling error, but with that spelling it is not there. Maybe the original poster will come back with more info about their account and get some further help with their problem -
I ran several message boards in the past and one of my favorites was and still is phpBB2 forums software. I also had Invision just like these and Yabb and Punbb as well as Mercury board. The one with the most available themes or skins, and mods though was phpBB2 as it still is, making it quite versatile. I then decided to get a content management system that offered mor than just the forums, and chose PHP-Nuke after also using XOOPS mostly because PHP-Nuke 6.5 + uses the phpBB2 forums as it forum software but there was just one small problem I couldn't find mods that would work with the PHP-Nuke version of phpBB and found that they had to be ported over to the PHP-Nuke system. I did find a site that had a few of these kind of mods but not a whole lot of them. This is when I decided to port mods to PHP-Nuke myself. So what is a ported mod you might ask? A ported mod as it relates to the PHP-Nuke CMS is a mod that was written originally for the phpBB forum but has been modified or engineered to sucessfully work on a PHP-Nuke site. One of the first mods that I found was called BB Code Box mod that added new MS style buttons and got rid of the "Plain Jane" grey limited selection of button on the standard PHP-Nuke install (they look almost identical to the buttons on this sites forum) when you are posting. This got mee to learn quite a bit about the structure of the database for the two systems as well as the differences in the directory structure. Some mods for phpBB merely require renaming the database table names and then editing the proper files. But some require extensive changes in the supplied files that take into consideration the file structure differences.I have lots more to post on this subject but only if it is actually requested by others, especially those that are running a Nuke site. Cause porting mods is about all I do now and spend a great deal of time looking for new mods and also editing the ones I have found to work with the Nuke sites. I just wished I could port over the EasyMod but to date no real luck and it would be a real rewrite and actually become its own program due to the complexity of the program to begin with.

I used Arachnophilia for years till my requirement got to needing different features. I first tried Source Edit but then went to HTML Kit and it's all I need Arachnophilia is now a faint memory so go here and get the last editor you will ever need mot just for HTML but for XHTML, XML, CSS / XLS / XSLT Style Sheets, JavaScript / JScript / LiveWire, VBScript / Visual Basic, ASP, PHP, Perl, iHTML, Java, Python, C/C++, .NET C#, Delphi / Pascal, INI, and IE 5 conditional HTML files with customizable file extensions. Coloring of JSP blocks is also supported. It can be as simple an editor as powerful one as your requirement go to PHP, or JavaScript MySQL and so on. Necessary to know if you want to run a site with a database. Here the link to it HTML Kit Home Page
