It's my first time running a board. After installing it, the size comes about 20mb, and so far only expecting 10-20 visitors a day, not really expected to grow much maybe up to 40 visitors a day at the most. I haven't put up my site yet, but want put a gallery in there. The thing is I don't want to run into any trouble such w/ exceeding bandwidth 'cause the forum's more important. So how much bandwidth am I looking at for the board?

I'm not a smoker, but smoking doesn't mean that you'll get cancer, it just means increased chances of getting cancer. If you know that and think it's worth, your choice. Believe me, both of my grandfathers were heavy smokers, and had complications near old age. One had cancer, and the other carried a big oxygen tank around.

International Baculauruate Is it recognisable in ur country??
clouds421 replied to iGuest's topic in General Discussion
well, in Chicago, it was considered a prestigous program (that's how they marketed it). I think only 3-4 schools had it. To get into it, you needed good grades + to pass an exam. The school I applied for also had a quota. If only I had been more educated on this, I would have taken it. -
shyper.com They also deleted my site w/o warning (had it for less than 3 weeks). Prior to that, their uptimes weren't great either. This is a new company so I don't know where they're going to go... good thing was no ads or banners, speed was good when it's up.

exactly what are the security problems with phpbb? I've been hearing this, but nothing about the actual problems so it'll be helpful if you can elaborate on them. I've just started using phpbb & don't know about these stuff.I wanted to get a popular board, and it was a toss between phpbb & invision. true, invision has powerful features, but I just find the interface ugly...I think vbulletin wins in looks, but haven't looked at it because it costs money.

Yes, I'm from the U.S. and it's recognized here. I feel bad now that I didn't join it. The hs I was going to go to had a high IB pass rate and would had probably helped me get into a better college. It's a more rigorous program than regular hs coursework. -
The 10 Most Important Men in a Man's Life!1. The Doctor because he says "take your clothes off".2. The Dentist because he says "relax and open wide".3. The Hairdresser because he asks "do you want it teased or blown"?4. The Milkman because he asks "do you want it in the front or back"?5. The Interior Decorator because he says "once it's in you'll like it".6. The Stockbroker because he says "it will rise quickly, fluctuate and then fall back down again".7. The Banker because he says "if you take it out too soon you'll lose interest".8. The Hunter who says he goes deep in the hole, shoots twice, and always eats what he shoots.9. The Fisherman who says he's always trolling for the big one.10. The Telephone Guy who asks "do you want it on the table or up against the wall"?

Picked up pieces from looking at source codes on websites when an effect or formatting interested me. Also, when I first created webpages with default generators like those from Geocities, wasn't satisifed with what they have so always looking for ways to modified. Though even now, I don't think I'm strong with html coding. I know the tags, and can basically read a code, but coding myself is another story. That's what FrontPage & Dreamweaver's for!

The other thread seems to be more for free hosts. So what about paid hosts? Xisto is adequate for me for now, but I just want to what's out there. When I was reading the reviews on free-webhosts, someone mentioned that frandt.com hosted their paid & free servers on one server so that even those who paid got screwed when they go down (which is a lot from my experience). I sure don't want to end up paying for service like that...

erm, I don't get it, got as a far as old man who lost his bike, so he brought locks...what about the crane? -
eesh, this is hard. originally, I looked into remote forum hosting, but then after I signed up at a couple places, there was a lot of things I didn't like--either downtimes, restrictions, ads, etc...it also didn't feel safe as the site could go downunder without notice. After struggling with this myself, setting one up isn't really as hard as you think. Usually patience & the readme/installation guide is all you need...& if something goes wrong, head into the support forum.

The appearance is fine...how the banner seems somewhat out of place. I would also say too much info where the forum descriptions are. Try to be more concise & cut down on the words. It's overwhelming to read!

LOL! Same experience. free-webhosts.com is one of the top search results on Yahoo & Google's engine I believe so it's hard to miss. At first I tried whatever hosts I found that offered a good allotment of space & whatnot, but turned out to be disappointed every time. Had to read the reviews carefully to see what people were saying & finally turned to Xisto. Very happy camper so far!

you want to learn C/C++ by yourself?! I took a introductory class on it in hs and thought it was hella hard. I'm sure I'm not the only one...let's say there was a bit of copying going on the programming assignments :lol

Haha, I told my friend about this site and she says it sounds like a site with malicious code and that sort of stuff and would think twice about a link that says that. Hmm..BTW, was it any way influenced the slightest bit by catch-22? That was the immediate connection that came into my mind.

Help With My Phpbb Skin Wanna change the skin to a downloaded 1
clouds421 replied to odomike's topic in Web Hosting Support
Well, you can probably find what you're looking for there, but since I sat down with this to figure it out for the first time, might as well share it.It's actually pretty simple, but somehow took me a while. You just have to ftp the template files into the template directory of where your forum is. Then when you log on to CP, under the style tab, click add, you will see all the skins you have in the template directory you have not installed. Install the one you want & set it was default in configuration.Hope that simplifies it a little bit, but can't help on the part of letting users chose skins. -
I've been playing around with different forums & I agree on this. From an aesthetical point of view, I think vBulletin looks the best, but it's not free so out of my options. Someone said this already, but yes, IPB is great because it was everything in the generic package. With PHPBB, you have to add on mods, more work to get the same features as IPB, but nevertheless, you can. The only thing is when you add those things on, you won't be able to find a compatible template afterwards (I haven't tried it, but that's what I'm guessing...since you're adding on extra stuff). And I'm still on my indecisive on which one to use. Since I'm not a techie, I'm looking at pre-modified PHPBB forums, any particular one that you recommend?

Looks like there's no clashings so far. Next thing that's interesting to know is what you would consider to be characteristic of where you grew up & where you're living now. Believe it or not, I've rarely traveled beyond IL's borders except maybe around Lake Michigan & NY for a couple days to attend a cousin's wedding.Since I started thread, I'll start first. I would definitely say the difficult ethnic enclaves here in Chicago. Hmm..another thing is that a lot of big/little shows and events take place here. Any Chicagoan would definitely also say weather! You can never know the appropriate clothes to wear since it fluctuates like crazy. I was wearing sweats this summer one day, then practically being boiled the next. Winters are horrendous.Edit: My class took a trip to the U of Iowa once for some special event (I didn't get to go), but all of them came back shocked seeing how small that place was. They said their core shopping center was only a couple blocks, like only a tiny portion of the commerical downtown area here.

Yeah, but they'll make you pay after a year, so only good for temporary use or if you want to have fun with it. Someone said they redirected fordsucks.info to the ford website. -

Thank you! That was easy enough but now, next problem is going to sound dumb... when I tried to log on the admin panel, I realized I forgot my pw (it's been a while since I did this...). Where is the pw usually stored? Is there some way I can retrieve it?Sorry for so many questions. -
I saw the review in Rolling Stone: http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/reviews The original was a hit and generated 1 sequel & 1 prequel. Really an excellent movie. I can totally see Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon play the roles. Once again, this is one of those films Miramax planned on releasing on DVD (was scheduled to be mid-Sept), but looks like it's been pushed back w/ no definite date. Highly recommended (all 3 parts).

I actually bought the DVD when it first came out, lol, so it's a little vague & I haven't gotten a chance to watch it again. My friends tell me that they cut scenes and redid the English subtitles (more succinct) so it was less accurate. The critcisms I hear are from people going in expecting to see a martial arts movie when it's kind of borderline artsy. But some of shots are just really beautiful. Check out the trailers if you haven't seen it: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ That fight sequence was just wow.

I agree with ToxiqueSprite. As a girl, I would rather have him leave me alone than be like I don't like you, but I still care about how you feel. That won't make you feel any better. But then thinking about it, I'm not someone who breaks up with ppl first either..I also wait for them to break up w/ me. I mean people kind of senses these things.

Just got started so I dunno what to say, but community & features are looking good. I also tried out other free hosts & had the same problems you were having. People probaby didn't know whether my site still existed as it was going down every other day
