  1. Reading back on this topic I've come to notice how condesending I am and how sure I am about myself. Sorry about that. I didn't really mean to come across the way I did. I mean I have a great respect for religion, including christianity. It's not so much the actual faith part of christianity that I admire however. There are many christian groups out there that do some real good in their communities and this kind of affirmitive action is admirable. Things such as food for the homeless, community programs for young people to help keep them off the streets and away from the ever reaching influences of drugs and alcohol. These are the crhistians that I can agree with and feel I can have enjoyable debates with without having my beliefs shot down and proclaimed heracy. In our world today religions need to be tolerant to the world around them, and words such as heretic and infidel such no longer be in anybodys vocabulary. Having a tolerance for those who do not believe the way you do is a part of life. Anyway, to diverse a little off the christian faith, another prime example non-tolerance for other faiths is the catholic-protestant war. One of the most famous examples of this is the gunpowder plot where Catholics who were under constant persecution attempted to overthrow the Protestant establishment of England by blowing up Parliament. This is not to say that the protestants did not deal out their own share of persecution. In Ireland Catholics were prohibited from owning land, from leasing land, voting, holding political office, living in a corporate town or within 5 miles of a corporate town, obtaining an education, from entering a profession, and doing many other things that are necessary in order to succeed and prosper in life. We could go in to Orange Order and the Orange Volunteers as well but I'll skip that as things in Ireland are only just starting to calm down, especially with the IRA disarming and moving more in to political action. Even The Real IRA have been quiet for some time so everyone is thankful. Anyway, this is a prime example of the hatred that is brought about by non-tolerant religious followers and their leaders. So I don't despise or hate those who believe Dinosaurs walked the earth only a couple of thousand years ago, even though I strongly disagree with the THEORY. What both sides of the Dinaosaur argument need to realise that although there are all these facts floating around, both are simply theories and not fact. I obviously believe my side to be true and am convinced all the evidence given fully supports my decision however on the Christian side of things, you believe the exact same, that the facts point toward your belief and that scientists are evil lying bast****. It's not your fault you're morons really, lol only joking. So it pays to be tolerant to both sides of the argument and I just wish there was a Christian who had been able to come on to this topic and debate the subject in-depth with me as I would love to really get in to it with one. Everytime I try to talk to my Christian friends and acquaintances about it they seem to shy away and attempt to drop the matter. This doesn't really give their theory of dinosaurs existence much credit really lol.
  2. I don't think an alternate login popup or pemanent page fix would make much difference to browsing the Xisto forums. If it takes forever to simply load the login page then how long is it going to take to browse the forums? You only login in to Xisto once then the rest of the time is spent loading up pages much larger than the login frame. Saving a couple of seconds isn't going to increase any productivity on a measurable scale.
  3. This is another reason why I hate games like WoW. They don't have any form of cap on the amount that can be earned by a single IP or account. There is no cap on the amounts that can be traded. There is no cap on daily experience. Basically it results in who ever spends the most amount of time online has the advantages that other players don't. Games such as WoW and Second Life have resulted in massive addictions across the world, and although they probably would have taken some of these addictions out on other games there is a large sector of people who don't actually play games and wouldn't be addicted to these types of things if they didn't come about. I remember when I first discovered the internet, back in the early 90's and immediately I was hooked on it. Luckily for me these types of online interactions didn't exist and I was limited to chatrooms. Anyway eventually the addiction died off and I branched out in to different areas with a certain amount of self control. Since the internet has become more popular other people are going through this massive addiction to online socialising but with the means available today it makes it so much more difficult to pace yourself and assert some self control. Some prime examples of this are obviously games like WoW and Guild Wars, also sites like facebook, tweeter and so on. People become so hooked on these sites that it seems to take up most of their spare time not leaving them much time for any other activities. But anyway, to get back on topic, the Chinese government being one of the most powerful entities on the planet are rife with corruption and obsessed with exploiting their own people to gather the wealth of the rest of the world. They do try to hold on to their countries rich traditions and values, that much I respect and admire (however their most recent censoring of films that involve or include time travel because to travel back in time is giving a person the ability the chance to change their countries tradiional values is insane), however the levels of corruption through all tiers of the government is enough to make a person weep. From the police right up to Hu Jintao, Paramount Leader of the People's Republic of China. I'm not saying that here in the West our own governments are not corrupted, but at least we are less obvious about it and our people do not live in fear every single day in case they say something that will land them in prison playing games, mining until your fingers bleed and shaping toothpicks all day every day. You will even land yourself in prison for having more than two children as well. If you have a third then obviously they aren't murderers and kill the child, but you can be guaranteed the parents will be punished severely.
  4. I've actually come up with several working methods hidden deep inside the code which enables me to track copies of PGE without transmitting personal data across the web or using my own site to complete the source. Obviously though it would be kinda counter-productive if I listed all the methods on here because anyone who came across this post would know exactly how to nullify my scripts. Instead I'll list a few different methods you can use to protect your own scripts from piracy should you need it. So including yordans method above here are some variations and alternatives. CodeLock - http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ This natty piece of software design is used to both encrypt your php source code and track the use of your source code online. The php files are decrypted off a file on your own server to prevent people just decrypting them off their own server and nullifying the script. Image Calling This method is where you place an image (or several) in a script then when setting the src="" part of the image you set it to a php file on your own web server eg. src="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/=;. The file checksite.php then retrieves the contents of the $_GET variable 'site' and writes it to your database for you to investigate later on. Source Guardian - http://www.sourceguardian.com/ A little pricey but this is an application similar to CodeLock however it boasts a few more features such as setting the decryption key to use the current domain and so on as well as other parts of they key. This is useful if you are looking to lock your code to a particular domain name. ionCube PHP Encoder - http://www.ioncube.com/ Yet another method for encrypting your source code. I haven't had any experience with the demo on this one so I can't give you an honest opinion. POBS - http://pobs.mywalhalla.net/ Another encryption package however this one is open-source and free. If you want me to go in to any kind of detail on the above methods and software then just let me know.
  5. Factually speaking, it's not so much that there are more disasters as it is that there are more people spread over larger areas who inevitably encounter such disasters at an increased rate, and increased media coverage and reporting of the ones which do occur. Indeed, it's almost reached the point of the ridiculous, wherein the media have become outright disaster whores in many cases. In terms of overall tectonic activity (earthquakes), things are pretty much baseline, although it is obvious that there will be peaks. There are some regions which have seen a slight uptick in disasters, such as the US having a rather vigorous tornado season, and the flooding in Australia, both attributable to regional climate oscillations. When this happens, it gets reported vigorously... but not so when the opposite happens. How many times do you get reports on the news about places which haven't flooded this season or how a forest fire wasn't started? If you broadcast the same amount of positive things like that alongside the disasters then it would seem more evened out. If you look at the number of natural disasters recorded then there is an increase over the decades purely because of the increase in places keeping records. This is because technology and media specifically has become very sophisticated. Also it is important to understand that a Natural disaster is not a volcano erupting in the middle of the Atlantic ocean but it is when the natural event affect human life by threat to loss of life and damage to goods. Therefore a couple centuries ago an intermediate level tsunami hitting the Sea of Japan may not have been a disaster nor would a rise in the Mississippi river, this is due to the increase in human civilisation and urbanisation in high risk zones.
  6. Just had a thought for tracking copies of my php game engine online ina hidden way. Basically I've already had people taking PGE and intending to convert the source code in to a premium game instead which requires a license to do. I need a way to track all copies of my engine online. I don't really want to have some form of online database used to operate the engine because that would cost me a lot in bandwidth. My thoughts were to conceal certain data in the page headers and source code then use a search engine to search through source code instead of browser output but it keeps bringing me round to code search instead which isn't what i'm after. Anyone got any thoughts on how to do this? Obviously it can't be too obvious otherwise people could null it out, but i've got ideas and methods to disable a script after i've found one running premium without a license.
  7. You should be able to bridge the connections in ad-hoc mode. So first you would bridge the LAN and the WAN connections THEN create an ad-hoc network on the wireless card. Once it is setup it would probably be best to reboot first (at least you do when using ICS instead of bridging, but that doesn't apply here because ICS only broadcasts internet connection through LAN and not WAN) then connect to the ad-hoc and test out the connection. If you need a more detailed explanation then let me know.
  8. Skunny Kart, Skunny Racing, it's all the same lol Yeah it was kinda like mario kart only with slightly worse graphics and the characters were cartoon-like, skunny being a squirrel. Also cooler weapons and items than mario kart as well. Loads of fun playing this game as a kid, I remember when my school got their first colour PC with windows 3.1 on it and put this game straight on it, before that we used old black and white macs with no network access of any kind.
  9. Speaking of windows 3.1 anyone remember skunny racing?
  10. Good idea yordan, or maybe download and study a pre-compiled wiki environment to get ideas for the type of environment you would like. Maybe take a couple of snippets of code here and there and develop your own using the wiki's basic design to give you ideas.
  11. Ok well you will need to learn yourself a web-based programming language that is more advanced than html as html is really just a markup language. There are many different types of languages you can learn to complete this task however I would recommend using PHP. It is a highly felxible and easy to use language that is capable of doing what you are asking. If you need any help studying or need some good reference points then feel free to ask. If you already know a language capable of doing all this then please let us know what "specifically" you need help with.
  12. I understand exactly what it is you're saying, but in what context is the site going to be? Is it going to be a kind of wiki? Contain information about a person of other peoples opinions of that person? You have to be careful with what it sounds like, some people may not be too keen on others putting information about them online.
  13. That's interesting. I know this is a rather old post which has been bumped by spam, but I'd like to comment on it anyway. The online education system is a great tool I think, but not just the aspect you are talking about where you have a teacher who instructs you, gives you work assignments and so on. Much of my education in the IT sector was self-taught using the internet. Everytime I would come across an article that I found interesting I would study that subject further and expand my knowledge whilst using forums to interact with other people experienced in the same topic and ask questions and get answers and so on. There is a much broader definition of online education and interacting with other forum members is a way of getting that vital interaction you seem to think is so important (and probably is) in an education. Ok so you may not be arranging to meet up with these people to get wasted on campus or using your studies as an excuse to talk to hot women, that's the kind of thing that goes on in college and university, for me that aside there isn't much difference between an educational institute and being online. I suppose the big factor is how trustworthy the content is online and the people who are helping you, but with enough cross-referencing of different materials from different sources you are bound to compile the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding the topic in question. I gave college a try three times and failed three times. There were far too many distrations for me and this ultimately led to my failing. Ok so the first time I was booted was for a minor indescretion with school network (damn proxy filters), the second time I was turning up to classes drunk and the third time was because of the birth of my son and me having to care full care of him. After that I decided to teach myself and it ultimately proved to be the best method.
  14. This is true, but Your Freedom has an excellent track record and is used by many. Also since the connection is encrypted to prevent proxy filters from detecting disallowed connections, unless you work for Your Freedom and have access to the cypher it is unlikely they will be able to gain access. Even if using this in school (I wouldn't recommend using this in work anyway) I would say it was best to install it on your own laptop and not a school computer. This example is completely theoretical: Say I lost my home internet connection due to not being able to pay for it, but I live near a school. The school gives laptops to its students who live in the immediate area (on loan) and these laptops are configured to connect to the wireless network they broadcast across the immediate area. Now, theoretically, I was able to find out the proxy address the laptops use to connect to the network and I use the Your Freedom technique to encrypt my connection and bypass the filters, I am now able to browse many sites the proxy wouldn't allow (including Xisto btw, theoretically) and is a good put on until I can get my phoneline reconnected. I can also upgrade my Your Freedom account so I have a connection speed of 256kb/s for the same price a month as a burger from McDonalds, or I could even upgrade to an 8MB connection speed although as a temporary solution that's not really an option. Besides, 256kb/s is plenty to play Halo Reach online. So there is a completely theoretical situation, totally not real, and that is what this method is useful for. After 7pm I've found the YF free servers go to the full 65kb/s speed they advertise. I have the upgraded line so I get 256kb/s and that costs next to nothing a month, but CGI proxies have a massive problem loading complex sites. Have you ever tried to load facebook through a CGI proxy? Even when scripts are enabled the amount of errors it brings up are immense. Trying to load Xisto fails often as well as the libcurl function times out. Also most CGI proxies limit data per connection to 1 megabyte where as with YF it's unlimited (although a maximum of 10 threads are allowed for free users, although these don't timeout and it qeues the other threads). Also there is no advertising with YF at all, some CGI proxies load several pop-ups and splays the screen with ads and that is what really annoys me. Every time you click a link you have to close a load of ads. Plus the constant searching for a new CGI proxy everytime the one you have been using finally gets blocked out is annoying. At least with YF it's an instant connection and there's no risk of getting blocked out every now and then. The system admin won't even know what is going on as all the data is encrypted. Mind you it's true the admin can block the ip of the YF server, but they have hundreds of different servers located around the world, the domain names are each completely different as well and unrelated IP's. So if one of your YF servers does eventually get blocked, you simply switch to the next one. Obviously this method isn't for everyone, but I had trouble finding a tutorial such as this one I've written which outlines the method for setting up this type of proxy bypass. Anyone who is able to use this method then good luck, if not then i'm sure you have your alternate methods and happy browsing.
  15. Ok, I've recently managed to get VPN working at home and thought I would share this method with everyone as it took me a while to find software and configuration controls that actually work. First of all though I would like to point out, THE FOLLOWING METHOD WILL BYPASS PROXY FILTERS ON YOUR LOCAL NETWORK SUCH AS AT SCHOOL OR AT WORK. THIS IS NOT THE INTENDED PURPOSE OF THIS ARTICLE AND SHOULD NOT BE USED ON ANY NETWORK WHERE YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE NETWORK ADMINISTRATOR BEFORE HAND TO BYPASS THESE FILTERS. THE FILTERS ARE IN PLACE FOR A REASON AND IF UNAUTHORISED SHOULD NOT BE BYPASSED. THIS ARTICLE IS DESIGNED TO PROTECT YOU ON PUBLIC NETWORKS SO YOUR DATA CANNOT BE INTERCEPTED BY ANY THIRD PARTIES SNIFFING THE NETWORK. So first I will explain the advantages of using VPN on a network. When connecting to a public network you are sending your data raw through the networks proxy. This is a major security risk as it can be intercepted by people and used for malicious reasons. VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a method of creating an encrypted tunnel straight through the proxy and on to the internet. This works by the VPN client connecting to the proxy, establishing a connection to a tunneling server (Your Freedom for example) and then this external server handles all requests and sends it back to you. If the proxy network has a filter to prevent connections to the external server then this will not work and you will have to find a new server to use. This article assumes you know the proxy server address on your network and the port it operates on. If you do not then you obviously do not have permission to do this. There are other articles online which can help you find this information on your network, but that will not be covered here as it is illegal. Right so first of all you will need to download OpenVPN 2.1.4 (https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html). It is important you download 2.1.4 and NOT 2.2.0. This is because we will be using a client software named Your Freedom and currently it is unable to detect OpenVPN 2.2+. Now OpenVPN is installed go to Start -> Settings -> Netowrk Connections (path may be different for later versions of Winblows, if so have a little search around online for the alternate path). You should see a new connection in this window named TAP-WIN32 Adapter V9. If this is here then you have setup OpenVPN succesfully and are ready for the next part. Once installed and all appropriate permissions have been set if prompted, you will need to download Your Freedom (http://www.your-freedom.net/index.php?id=downloads) and download the latest full version. If running an older version of Vista, don't download the full version. Instead update the java runtime llibraries manually on your computer then download the 2MB version of Your Freedom. If using the business version of Vista like myself then don't bother, just download the full version (12MB). While this is downloading sign up for an account with Your Freedom on their site. You will be required to validate your account via an email they send out to you. Now you can install Your Freedom and unblock through your firewalls when prompted. Next a setup wizard will guide you through configuring Your Freedom. It will first ask you some questions about your proxy and the settings it needs to connect. Eg. Proxy: webproxy.mynet.com Port: 8080. Also it will ask you for the username and password you signed up to their site with. When done, Your Freedom will begin inspecting its online server database and test which different connections can be made to each server (which ports are open basically). This may take some time, actually that's a lie, this will take A LOT of time so while it is running, kick back and chill with a brew and a smoke. Once it has finally finished and the config wizard has closed, you are ready to configure Your Freedom. In the Your Freedom window, click on the 'Ports' tab at the top. Where it says OpenVPN the port number should be 1194. Now unless you are using something on this port number already (which I really doubt) just leave this as it is and click the radio button so OpenVPN is selected. Now the port number field should grey out. On the top tabs again click the 'Status' tab and then click 'Start Connection'. In the icon tray next to your system clock there should be an icon for Your Freedom with a brown door that is slightly open, after a couple of seconds it should hopefully open a little further. This means that OpenVPN is working properly and you have full access to the Your Freedom servers. Now it's time for the final stage of our setup, configuring firefox (you can use other browsers if you want, but since firefox exists why would you want to?). Open up firefox then go to Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Network, then under this sub-tab where it says: Configure how firefox connects to the internet, click the Settings button. We are going to configure out local VPN proxy which firefox is going to use to send and receive http requests from. Click the 'Manual Proxy Configuration' radio button and then enter in the http proxy field: 127.0.0.1, and for the port number enter 8080. Beneath this there should be a checkbox named Use this proxy server for all protocols. Check this box then save your settings. If everything has gone to plan, you should now be online and able to visit any website through firefox without risk of your data being stolen. Also, if your network had any web filters (like they put in high schools to block innapropriate content) this should now be completely bypassed and all blocked sites will be available to you. Now because you are using Your Freedom and they are free, you will not get a very fast connection speed. There is the option however to upgrade your account to premium servers where you will get the best connection speed possible for an annual fee. Now many people seem to swear by using CGI web proxys to get around these filters however this is not recommended. For one, the network admins usually find each new proxy and block it after a day or two forcing you to search endless lists for another one which is not blocked. Also, they are incredibly slow, don't work with 50% of websites out there, full of marketing ads, and highly unsecure. Did you know mny of the proxies store certain information passed through them, including usernames and passwords and some even store credit card information. My method of using VPN is highly secure and safe for all, as long as you don't visit any dodgy websites that is.
  16. <br /><br /><br /> The games listed above are the ones you mentioned that I love as well from my past. I still play Enemy Unknown today, but I wouldn't mind playing the free linux version of the game called UFO: Alien Invasion, it looks like an amazing upgrade from the original with the exact same style of game play but improved graphics.<br/><br/> Can't believe I forgot about Dune II (Dune I was awesome too but totally different style of game). If you're going to talk about Lucas Arts games though you have to mention Day of the Tentacle and Sam and Max. I had beneath a steel sky but could never get past a certain point in the game before it kept crashing on me lol There's a cool little app out there for playing the old lucas arts games on a modern pc, it emulates everything they need and keeps them running at the proper speed, can't remember the name of it now though.<br/><br/> Also, I still play a lot of the older games and avoid the newer ones. New games today for PC are all the same, they try and take tried and tested methods and add a load of rubbish which overcomplicates (or undercomplicates) them making them just annoying. For me graphics don't play a big part, but graphics aren't what makes a game good as it is.
  17. Right to help clarify things and help people to better understand I am going to write a short tutorial here on how to send an SMS from your site using PHP to secure the SMS form, and using Clickatell (UK users visit Clickatell UK) as your SMS gateway. Sending an SMS from your site will require you to sign up to Clickatell and purchase credits from them. The credits system is easy to understand, you are charged a certain amount of credits per SMS sent, currently purchasing 1-9999 credits will cost 1-1.5 credits per SMS depending on what network you are sending to which is around GBP0.027p per SMS. Once you have signed up for your account with them (it's free) then you will have 10 test SMS. Next we will create the html form which will send our SMS and the secure login form to prevent those without the password from sending an SMS. The password to send an SMS will be the same as the password you use to login to Clickatell. Here is the PHP and HTML code for you to copy and paste. <?php session_start(); $configusername = 'USERNAME'; $configpassword = 'PASSWORD'; $configapiid = 'API ID'; if (isset($_GET['logout'])){ unset($_SESSION['usesms']); } if (isset($_POST['name']) && isset($_POST['pass']) && ($_POST['name'] == $configusername) && ($_POST['pass'] == $configpassword)){ $_SESSION['usesms'] = true; } if (isset($_SESSION['usesms']) && ($_SESSION['usesms'] == true)){ ?> <form action="http://api.clickatell.com/http/sendmsg" method="post" name="sendsms"> <table width="600" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#999999" style="border:1px solid #000000;"> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="middle"><strong>Send SMS</strong> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="right" valign="middle">Mobile Number</td> <td align="left" valign="middle"><input name="to" type="text" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="middle"><textarea name="text" cols="60" rows="3" id="text" style="width: 100%;"></textarea></td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="2" align="center" valign="middle"><input name="sendtext" type="submit" id="sendtext" value="Send SMS" /> <input name="logout" type="button" id="logout" value="Logout" onClick="document.location='<?php echo "http://".$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']; ?>?logout=true';" /> <input name="user" type="hidden" value="<?php echo $configusername; ?>" /> <input name="password" type="hidden" value="<?php echo $configpassword; ?>" /> <input name="api_id" type="hidden" value="<?php echo $configapiid; ?>" /></td> </tr> </table> </form> <?php } else { ?> <form action="" method="post" name="login"> <table width="600" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#999999" style="border:1px solid #000000;"> <tr> <td align="center" valign="middle"><strong>Login</strong> </td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" valign="middle">Username <input name="name" type="text" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" valign="middle">Password <input name="pass" type="password" /></td> </tr> <tr> <td align="center" valign="middle"><input name="login" type="submit" id="login" value="Login" /> </tr> </table> </form> <?php } ?> So first of all we start the session. This is essential because we will be storing a variable in the session which tells our page that we have logged in succesfully and are authorised to send SMS from this site. Now we have three different variables that need setting, $configusername, $configpassword and $configapiid. Change the text between the two speechmarks ' ' to your Clickatell username and password. You can get the API key from the API settings page when logged in to your account on Clickatell. The username and password you enter here is also the username and password required to login to this script and send SMS. Next up we have two IF statements. These test to see if the user has either tried to login or is logging out. If the logout variable has been set by clicking the logout button, this creates a $_GET variable which we test to see if it is set. If it is we unset() the $_SESSION variable that tells our script we are logged in. Unsetting this variable now means our script will read us as not logged in and take us to the login screen. The second IF statement checks that we have entered both a username and password in the login screen and submitted the form, and also verifies the username and password is the same as those entered in the $configusername and $configvariables defined on lines 3 and 4. If they do match, we create a variable in the session called $_SESSION['usesms'] and set the value to true. This now means with this session variable set, when ever we visit this page it will take us to the send sms page, at least until we either logout or the session variable expires. Now we can start with our html. Before this we need to know which page we are going to display, is the user logged in or not? so the IF statement tests for the existence of $_SESSION['usesms'] and if it finds it, we can display the html for the send sms page, ELSE we display the login page. So the send sms form has an action which is set to http://api.clickatell.com/http/sendmsg, this is where Clickatell has told us to send all API requests. So the information we submit on this page will be sent to this address and processed by Clickatell. The key form elements are list below and what information is contained within each one. These are some editable elements and others are hidden elements containing values with ESSENTIAL element names. "to" - This is the mobile number you are sending this message to. Don't forget to include the area code "text" - The message you are sending. If this is over 160 characters in length, it will send as multiple messages and cost more. "user" - Here we echo the $configusername variable with our Clickatell username. "password" - Here we echo the $configpassword variable with our Clickatell password "api_id" - And again, echo the $configapiid variable with our Clickatell API ID. These are the variables that Clickatell will pick up and process. We have all the essential information we need, it should all be ready to go. You can now upload your script to your web host or local server (remember, it needs to have PHP support) and try out one of your free test messages to your own mobile phone. The test message will be processed the same as any other message however it will not forward the message body and will instead be along the lines of "This is a test message sent from the Clickatell server". So that is how you can send SMS messages from a web page. Be careful not to let your username and password fall in to other peoples hands otherwise they could spend all your Clickatell credits. Clickatell also provides you with incoming SMS messages as well, and I think they allow you to make a profit from them if you choose to charge for incoming messages. If incoming messages are enabled on your account, there is a way to extract the data and display them on your own web page as well, but since I have never meddled in that side of Clickatell I haven't written any scripts for this feature sorry.
  18. It's ok, they have activated now. I have an account here and at Xisto now earning mycents. bonus
  19. From the look of it you have already created a site where users can login, register and so on. Also the site speed is probably down to your webhost and not css related , I have a very fast internet connection and it is still slow. Are you on a free host? If not then you should probably contact the support dept. and file a complaint. Also, you want someone to write you an event manager chart? You would have to give more information about your code structure and database information before you can get that type of support, there isn't just one standard of php code design that people can just "tell you", it has to be custom built for custom systems.
  20. Yeah it's kind of a hard question to understand, but if it is a free database editor you want written in php and easy to install then phpMyAdmin is the only choice, there's a reason why nearly all web hosts use it ;)phpMyAdmin is a free software tool used to handle the administration of MySQL over the internet. phpMyAdmin supports a wide range of operations with MySQL. The most frequently used operations are supported by the user interface (managing databases, tables, fields, relations, indexes, users, permissions, etc), while you still have the ability to directly execute any SQL statement through the handy pop-up window. It also displays the SQL queries that are executed all the way through using the software, such as when you click to view a list of database tables, it gives you the query, using the gui to change a value in a table row, the query is displayed at the top again. It not only aids you in administering your database but helps you learn new methods and ways of doing things with MySQL.Definately worth getting.
  21. It really annoys me when I see scripts people have made with the site configuration written in to the database. I know it shouldn't but I just see it as a waste of database resources and an unnecessary load on the database as well. My site config always gets written in to a config.php file, usually in a lib/ directory. Also, making a nice little interface in the sites admin panel to easily configure and change the config is a bonus as well. Creating an efficient site always requires knowing what actually needs inserting in to a database and what can be stored in a local flat file. Creating a database table to store values which will remain constant for all users is not recommended. An example of this would be standard site config such as the title of the website, or copyright owner of the website (More dynamic to put these values in to a variable which can be called on multiple pages than hard-coding it in pages then having to manually change them all later). There is no reason you can't just put this information in to a config file, and your database will not have to run through a query, select the information then extract it and organise it on every single page every single user loads. Instead you call two variables from a file, that's it. To avoid database load on sites which have the potential to have hundreds or thousands of registered users I always try to avoid putting data in to the database that doesn't need to be there. Say you have your own PHP RPG game, there is a module system in place for admins to install and uninstall modules (additional content) from the game. Instead of creating a database table with the information needed for these modules, I create a module list file with the file permission 0666 (read/write). Here is an example: $getaddon[] = "[link=boss][name=The Boss][priv=SuperAdminModUser]"; $getaddon[] = "[link=airport][name=Airport][priv=SuperAdminModUser]"; $getaddon[] = "[link=gym][name=Gym][priv=SuperAdminModUser]"; So now we have a php file called list.php with an array inside of different strings that we can loop through using a foreach() statement. This is similar to BBCode because it is an easy format to process using the preg_replace() function. foreach($getaddon as $row){ $link = preg_replace('/\[link=(.*?)\]\[name=/is'); $name = preg_replace('/\[name=(.*?)\]\[priv=/is'); $priv = preg_replace('/\[priv=(.*?)\]/is');} So now we have the link, name and user privelages inside a variable, but we need to do something with those variables before they get overwritten by the next loop of the foreach statement, so how about echoing an url to load the module. foreach($getaddon as $row){ $link = preg_replace('/\[link=(.*?)\]\[name=/is'); $name = preg_replace('/\[name=(.*?)\]\[priv=/is'); $priv = preg_replace('/\[priv=(.*?)\]/is'); if (strpos($priv, $_SESSION['user']['type']) === true){ echo '<a href="http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ />'; }} So assuming you had a variable named $_SESSION['user']['type'] and it contains the string 'User', each link will be echoed on the page and look like this The Boss Airport Gym Now this method of calling data from a flat file is a lot more efficient than creating a database table like this, CREATE TABLE `modules` ( `id` int(5) NOT NULL, `name` varchar(20) NOT NULL, `link` varchar(20) NOT NULL, `priv` enum('Super', 'Admin', 'Mod', 'User') NOT NULL, `installed` enum('Yes', 'No') NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`)); So although it may be easier for you to call this information from the database using a mysql_query() statement and updating the information as well, in the long run it will start to drag down your database speed unnecessarily. So that's a short description of why I prefer using config files instead of a database to store my sites config information lol
  22. No problem, happy to help. The 101 tutorial is where I started learning PHP myself, and now I'm creating my own advanced game engine, good luck with PHP and good luck in the future.
  23. Anyone out there still remember Master of Orion II? Need to find enough people who still play it to get some online play on the go. Thanks to the emulated IPX protocol in DosBox we can finally play it over the internet as well so no need for LAN parties or any of that rubbish. Master of Orion II is a great strategy game focused on galactic conquest. Building your empire as standard strategy games do, but travelling to other solar systems and colonising them, advanced diplomatic negotiations and trade with other races, long lists of technological advancements which need researching and so on. I've really started getting back in to MOOII again so if anyone does feel like some online play then it's still available to buy from amazon for dirt cheap and I can talk you through setting it up with dosbox.
