Dw Templates Vs Php Includes which one you prefer?
Unregistered 015 replied to Lozbo's topic in Programming
You are using templates even if you use includes man!!C'mon, html, css (it is PRESENTATION) has to be somewhere in the code. It does not matter if it is php or html. You must have something to look at! If you use includes, the code for look of includes in includes themself, and if you prefer clean html (no php) then the code in html determines the look of your site (and in css). If this answers your question, you still have a lot to learn, about web sites, and the concepts behind it (no hard feelings). And this is the right place to do just that!Ask away! -
I've already answered your first question (about white space). But (again) it is for flash animation that is not finished yet.And now on to second q... I use cutenews because it gets the job done much faster, and it would require me quite some time to write it from scratch (I can see no point in that). Why would I invent something that is already there (and free)? It is enough to just modify the existing stuff. I used to write newsletter script some time ago for some site and it took me a month to write it (I was pretty much of a noob back there) and it didnt came out as I wanted it to be. That is when I decided to modify existing stuff insted. And about making ''system to use on my site'', well, it is a nice idea, but I'm not sure if it is going to fit into every site I create. I create sites comercially and customers sometimes have strange requirements, so I usually look for similar stuff on net and modify it

Its's green becouse client requested so. And about "footer not being connected to other content", well, there is going to be some more content on the both sides so it should solve that. If you click on news page 3 you can see much better how is it going to look when there is no content in the middle or there is not enough of it. Thank you for your reviews. I'll post again when I finish this project.

Forums are just temporary. I'm going to use somthing else there, but had to use that for latest forum script testing. I plan to make forums open in site when you click on forum, and right-side navigation then dissapears. Cutenews is... well it fits nice and the white space in banner is for flash animation or advert gif (not sure yet). I have to change the buttons on the newsletter, comments (for cutenews) and voting to be the same and to fit into look of the site. I hope this clears things out a bit....

Nice site, and much better idea. Design could be better though. I think it's going to look much better when populated with content (languages and translations). You migh consider doing some PHP and MySql programming when site grows bigger, because this way you wont have 300+ html documents. All in all, well done.I rate it: 8/10One more thing: when I subbmited a form it took me to siple white page with text "Thank you! Message sent!" or something like that, but it would be much better if you could put that on the actual site. If I had more time I could write a script that accepts all the form input, sends you email notification, and displays "successful" message when done, but I'm too busy righ now. Look for that script on hotscripts.com or similar site. Im sure there is something that suits you needs. Notice from cmatcmextra: Merged double posts

Use Corel Draw if you have it. Just enter 45? in rotation box and hit enter. Save your image as jpg. That should do it. If you dont have Corel Draw, find some similar program (for vector graphics) and try it.

Xenon Hack: First thing that cought my eye is: Font is too big, make it smaller (menu and main content)Simple red layout: Colors are to strong (I'm blind by now ) I suggest you try some gradient fill and as one poster suggested: look at your site for some time, and see if its to "hot"Mario Circuit Layout: Colors dont go together well (green and red, hm?) and again I had to close it quickly to keep my eyes healthyComplete Sony Layout: I like this one. I lacks some details but it look nice. Just make pictures less blury (use gifs for everything, except for images-photos). Save at quality of 12 if you are using Photoshop!Revolution Layout: Too empty. Try changing the lines (<hr>) into dotted lines like the line above the header on this page http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Keep practicing!

If you made that template all by yourself, then its ok. But if you just put somebody else's work then it is not that cool. I personally hate sites created by using other people templates. If you are just starting rather look at the site you like and try to "copy" it, but mix with your style. Don make exact copies. If you are using CMS (Mambo, PHP-Nuke etc) you can easely create templates (you should know how to use photoshop or similar software, and how to code HTML and CSS).

Dreamweaver is a great piece of software BUT if you want to create good looking, attractive, dinamyc sites, then you'll need a lot more (Photoshop, learn PHP, CSS, HTML, MySql) and then you can say you are a master. Dreamweaver is just a tool, and you need KNOWLEDGE to use that tool!

I already knew that, but thanks anyway. Today I have found a template in which there are all of the possible tags (like a.pathway:link, a.pathway:visited, or a.mainmenu:hover and table.moduletable) so I can now customize anything I want (in modules and on the content) in css templete file. I use that file for every new template I start creating, and just change settings. I also found a nice tutorial with all the MOS php codes (like <?php mosLoadModules ( 'right' ); ?> and <?php include_once ("mainbody.php"); ?>) so I can put my content anywhere I wont. Nice!P.S. most of this knowledge was taken from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ and they have a great tutorial called ''MOS Template tutorial 101'' or something like that. take a look

This thread is for disscusing Mambo Open Source CMS (MOS). Post any links to Mambo related sites (template sites, module sites, or whatever mambo). If you have tutorials for creating own templates post here.I personally need some tutorial for using CSS when creating Mambo templates, and some reference to all the classes, divs etc (e.g. mainmenu, button...) of modules (menus, polls etc).

If you plan to design web sites you will come accross many different program and use all of them for something. I've been using photoshop, corel draw, dreamweaver, flash, hand-coding, and many other tools and techniques to create a web site. Lately I'm learning Mambo CMS inside out becouse I think it is so POWERFUL, and it is open source! If you want to make dynamic pages you should also learn some php and mysql.

Good tutorials about making your own mamo templates are welcome, too. I know how to edit html, and use tables for layout, how to include content with php includes and mos commands but I dont know how to use css to edit menus, polls and site in general! Please help! -
Designed By You Or Site Builder?
Unregistered 015 replied to David789's topic in Websites and Web Designing
This depends on the type of the site I'm trying to create and of type of customer (if I'm not doing it for myself). If I need content then I use Content Management System (aka CMS), and I prefer Mambo Open Source, since it is easy to use, customizable, and you can create templates easely. If I'm making more static, not-so-content-driven site I use Photoshop and Corel (for bitmap and vector graphics) in combination with Dreamweaver. I almost never code PHP (sometimes only a few lines of code) since almost everything I need was already made by someone else. Sometimes I use MySql for simple databases, tebles, and user management. I wish I knew some more Flash to incorporate it in my sites, since it looks nice, and I hope to learn that someday... -
Mambo Sites Whats the best Mambo resource site?
Unregistered 015 replied to sonorama's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm using mambo, too. And I was also looking for some sites. Have you been at mamboforge.net by the way. There you can find many templates. I guess you already knew that but want more. Same here. It would be the best if someone knew the site where you can preview templates before downloading them, and site where templates are well organized. We would really appriciate it!
