Recommended Posts

What internet browser do you think is better?

I have directed this question to myself many times and have always ended up falling asleep. Its too hard and i always become indesicive when it comes to it!

So...what browser do you people think is better?

Mozilla Firefox, or Internet Explorer?

I have both and the ups and downs of both are stated below:

Firefox:

--------Good Points:

------------------------Its fast

------------------------Its reliable

------------------------Easy to use

------------------------Simple

------------------------and it looks cool!

-------------Bad Points:

------------------------Messes up in forums and similar websites sometimes..

------------------------Cannot provide good security

IExplorer:

-------Good Points:

------------------------Advanced

------------------------Default

------------Bad Points:

------------------------Complicated

------------------------Unreliable

thats all i can come up with at the moment...any suggestions?

Well to add a few Iexplorer has all these spywares easily installed. Its not WC3 standards compliant. Its only avilable on Windows (it is there on Mac but i dont think newer versions would be available)Firefox doesnt mess up forms. It just shows how they are supposed to be (according to W3C standards) . Its Internet explorer which has the workarounds. Last but not least . Since Firefox is opensource there are so many extensions and themes freely avaialble Which makes the browser uber customizable. I have not seen similar things for IE.IE has some design edge over FF. Since its highly integrated into the Windows OS , new softwares and plugins get installed easily. Same happens for firefox in Windows (i am not sure how ..i guess it copies stuff off IE registries) But its not easy in Linux. Can be pain some times just to configure Flash Java and Realplayer etc.On the whole I choose Firefox only cause its standards compliant .

in my opinion good website look better in firefox. and tabbed browsing - i know its gonna be in ie7 but ff got there first.

basically ie really sucks but you need it for windows update - dont understand ie for mac's  Heres an ie story - once i was trying to help out a computer that was messed up and windows update wouldnt work on ie so i just used windows explorer in a kind of konqueror way and it was no better. [i know it is the same base but why do m$ even both with ie if everyone could use windows explorer?]

In my opinion Internet Explorer is FASTER than Firefox and Mozilla, I haven't tried Opera since years. And in my opinion it looks better than all other browsers, I like the way of placing the symbol bars in a way I want them to be placed. If you turn off ActiveX, everything is fine. To talk about the W3C standards ...what about XML and XSLT? In you throw an XML-file against an XSL-stylesheet, in IE a nice HTML-site is shown. What about Firefox? Can't wait to see what will happen when IE7 Final comes out. Will people move back from Firefox to IE? Or will Firefox keep the boom?Happy browsing anyway ...!

Opera, Firefox, Safari and Konqueror beats Internet Explorer anyday. Microsoft products are becoming more unreliable as they go down the chute because all they care is the money that people invest on crappy software.xboxrulz

Maybe these browsers beat Internet Explorer everyday, but if so, then they beat IE only on their user's desktops and not on mine and on the other IE user's desktops. Everybody's free to choose an alternative browser, but everybody should be tolerant enough to let IE users use IE. In a forum, if someone posts an IE problem, then there's three answers by Firefoxers saying "change your browser".

My vote's definitely with Firefox. I don't have any problems with it being slow ... and I really appreciate the tabbed browsing and all the add-ons and customizations I can have with it. Oh, and the fact that it's free doesn't hurt either. As for its security issues: I'd find that in any Web browser I use. If I rely on the programmers to keep my system safe and ad/spyware free, instead of getting off my lazy butt and doing something on my end (firewall/spyware remover/paying attention to what's being done in my web browser/etc.) then I'm going to have security problems. But I'll have less if I take some initiative and use what little common sense God gave me. Heh.

Firefox for sure here. The security and reliability is nice, and I really appreciate the standards compliance. Add that to the handy tabbed browsing and nice extensions, and Firefox is pretty hard to beat. (I haven't tried Opera, but I've heard it's really good. I just can't pay for it.)

I've tried F/F and prefer Explorer.I found that both of them have security issues, so little difference there. It just comes down to which "feels" better I guess.Personally 'tho I prefer Opera to both of them, and now it's free, suggest you all give it a try.

Tab browsing has changed the way we live and breathe. I'm more comfortable with Internet Explorer, but I always use firefox if I intend on surfing the net. There are plugins that firefox also offer that just by far out does Internet Explorer. The javascript Console is also a great resource. Also, they have a plugin to convert the page being viewed to as if it was being viewed by internet explorer. Those crafty people. =) Mozilla offers a built-in javascript debugger (which works quite nicely) and firefox offers it as a plugin.

it is obvious that ie attracts people doing thicks on it and i think it is less secure than firefox. but ive learnt that a recent report by symantec shows that there are more dangerous bugs in mozilla than ie. it is just hard to say.

I don't think that one browser is safer than the other. It's only a question of being targetted. As soon as the majotity of Internet users would use Firefox, Firefox would become the more interesting target for the 'exploit finders'. Until a while ago, Internet Explorer was the only real interesting target for security hole finders, but meanwhile this situation has changed.

I also read about the new found security holes in Mozilla a while ago, I'm sure this was not the last time we can read news like this. As soon as it will come to people's mind that EVERY browser is in potential danger when hitting the web, the popularity of Mozilla and Firefox might sink down a bit again. Let's see.

One of the biggest reasons why Firefox has something on IE, (besides the tabbed pages, which is the coolest), is that a lot of viruses are specifically designed to invade your computer through loopholes in IE. Now, people are figuring out that web surfers have figured this out, so they may try to find holes in Firefox too, but, for the time being, it really cuts down on the amount of viruses via surfing the web that you can catch on your computer. Another thing is that Firefox seems to have some sort of intergrated popup blocker that blocks most, if not all, of popup ads, which, again, is very cool.

FireFox all the way. I switched about a year or so ago to Fox and haven't opened my browser except to test how my sites will look in various browsers. Firefox is open source and not profit driven. This means that although it may not have a major money-making corporation behind it, like Microsoft, it has a dedicated team who codes to produce a good product. If you allowed a brand new computer user to choose between Firefox and IE, and gave them a short introduction on each of the browser's points, I'm sure 9/10 times Firefox would win.

It's user friendly for new people, and packed with enough features for more experienced users. Extensions rule! Tabbed browsing is like a gift from God, no longer do I have 9 windows in my taskbar. Instead, it's just one simple Firefox task and whatever else I have going.

I'm ranting, I guess. But, hey, not done yet!

For now, IE is quite heavily targetted by "hackers" and whatnot. Most spyware and that sort of junk is setup to slip into your computer through IE loopholes. Now, I'm sure if Firefox would grow as big as IE it, too, would have people trying to develop malicious code, but even so I doubt it would be as bad. As I said before, Mozilla isn't some huge greedy corporation like Microsoft. At least for the time being, people love to root on the little guy and hope for them to take out the big guys. I do, anyways.

GO FIREFOX!
