Ahsaniqbalkmc 0 Report post Posted November 8, 2010 I want to make a boot disk on a USB flash drive so that I can access my hard disk through ms dos. I searched on the internet a little bit and found some zip files and with text like extract it to the usb and you are done. Most of them were suspicious and my antivirus software was beeping all the time. So is there any way I can make such a USB disk. The main purpose of making such disk is to for example install microsoft windows xp from a setup copied on my hard disk drive other than C: from dos mode. From my research on the internet I concluded that such installation is possible. so if you have any solution for making such a bootable USB disk then please share with me. vhortex 1 Report post Posted November 9, 2010 You can only boot from USB if your motherboard allows it. You need to check your computer manufacturers website or check the manual that comes with your computer if it can boot from usb. The question on how to make the usb use windows 98 boot sector is out of my knowledge. I never tried it but msdos 6.22 can be installed on USB and windows XP boot USB is the common boot USB version being used.

vhortex 1 Report post Posted November 9, 2010 Mostly you can get them from Bootdisk websites. From multi boot service, some windows XP versions allows you to make a bootable USB by going to the control panel and look for "Boot Media", this is a non-standard user function and absent on most end user commercial versions. You can also search on linux forums, from Bart CD websites and other related sites. I can do some initial search and reply with links as soon as I have time to scan and check the files.

Using DOS System Files Located at: - browse to your floppy diskOf course, for the "bootable floppy" step you need to have a bootable floppy in your reader, or to have a virtualflop on a bootable floppy image. The stick needs to be prepared to make it a bootable usb stick. And the installation program of Windows XP needs to be uploaded on the usb stick. So there is probably no direct need to upload zip files that make the antivirus program beep. With posts about information about things found on the internet most of the time it is handy to post the links to the websites where the information and the files to download were found. A link makes it possible for the helpfull fellow member of the forum to have a look at the suspicious website. After having a look at the suspicious website it is much more possible to give some founded advice about the situation. It might be possible that the sites were telling that they were offering Windows 98 files while in reality the files are virusses, trojan horses and such programs. There are a lot of websites that offer operating programs. There are a lot of websites that offer virusses, key loggers, trojan horses, spy software and other bad files. The size of the file can give an indication about the content of the file. A virus has probably a much smaller content compared to an operating program. The links in the posts are about Windows operating programs like Windows XP and Windows Vista and Windows 7. The specific question for a Windows 98 usb boot stick was overlooked. Edited November 12, 2010 by zenia (see edit history)

A link makes it possible for the helpfull fellow member of the forum to have a look at the suspicious website. After having a look at the suspicious website it is much more possible to give some founded advice about the situation. The link I gave is a full step-by-step explaining how to make a windows98 boot on a USB flashdisk (and more things).I gave this link because I tested the steps and they worked on my system. All the steps are explained, and of course these steps are (not only) copying something on the USB flashdisk.Concerning the things on the internet, a lot of sites ask you first to download a zip file. Then you have to unzip the file, and find inside some tools which make your flashdisk bootable. Usually they are based on isolinux.
levimage 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2010 Is there anything out there that can make an SDHC or microSDHC in a memory to usb adapter bootable? I was curious. I can then always have spare device at my disposal and always on hand like, in my cell phone in case of emergency. Also on the subject as their been any effort to make a USB bootdisk with the possiblility of password encryption in the boot process or on the opening of files. So there would be no need of company data or personal data becoming public. So in the event something comes lost there is no need to worry about intellectual property getting in the wrong hands. It is a bit unclear what the use of this Service Pack is for an usb stick which should contain Windows 98. When things are told about information found on the internet it is handy for other people to be able to have a look at the information themselves so they can have a better understanding of the information and the implications the information on a website has. Sometimes the visit of a website makes things more clear compared to judge only by the information and the description of the information written in a post. Depends of the hardware of your cellphone, of course,
