rockarolla 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) How many of us believe in the existence of alien living forms? Well most of you will be on he same opinion - ALF exist and we believe that one day - soon or later they will come or we will happen to meet them. How will they look like? This topic has been discussed n details by the late astronomer Carl Sagan. I would strongly recommend his book - very well known to the older generation mostly due to the TV series he directed - which is result of his research on popularization of science and his search for alien forms. The most interesting moment of course will be the encounter itself - how all those ppl - leaders politics and etc will react - or what will be the code of beaviour with the aliens - that will bring whole lot of fun to the ordinary ppl. I recall scenes from the movie Mars attacks - and I think on formal level it will be this way. So lets hope that the first encounters will take place in a loose informal fashion so that we will avoid shame and the embarassment.Well but - shall we be ever able to meet another civilization? At this moment it is very unlikely that we won't. The means of traversing long distances we have are extremely primitive...we are restricted by the speed of light! Even if we manage to travel at this speed we won't be able to reach very far - not within a life span of the senders - nor of the passangers...seems that we are prisoners if not of the earth then of the solar (inner solar) system. But there is light in the tunnel...according to some calculations and hypotheses we might be able to travel in time and space in an instantaneous manner! This might be all possible at the vicinity of a Black Hole through a sleevs called Worm Holes...At the present moment this has been seenn in the highly abstract solutions of the Einstein equations...we are to wait a bit longer to witness it ourselves... tudor 0 Report post Posted March 4, 2008 Assuming there are civilisations out there sufficiently technologically advanced to travel here (no mean feat), and they know we are here (the galaxy is a big place and we are a very small planet), then it is possible they could have visited Earth. We do not think it is at all likely for the following reasons:1. Even with our current level of technology we are watching the sky very closely. Indeed, we have just photographed planets from Earth (nothing the size of Earth yet, but in time). We could soon be approaching the stage where we will be able to see evidence of extraterrestrial activity - so far we're seen nothing in our neighbourhood. Don't forget though, when looking out into space we're also looking back into time !2. It's our opinion that if an alien race did come here then they would let themselves be known. I have heard arguments, mainly drawn from Sci-Fi, that they would merely watch and observe us, but we don't think so. We think it will be a global event, if it ever happened.well i can say i belive in alien but i belive in God to ....what can i say i never seen an alien and i never seen God.Many people believe that research on UFOs and aliens is not intellectually respectable and there are those who think that making myths the basis for research is unscientific and only leads to mystical speculation.Dr Walther Riedel--"If they exist, they have shown little willingness to cooperate with human investigators. There is even evidence suggesting that they deliberately try to keep humans in the dark about their activities and nature."Dr Walther Riedel-- "I am completely convinced that they (flying saucers) have an out-of-the-world basis."Is an opinion the people who don`t agre please write down your opinion ...thx
Quatrux 4 Report post Posted March 30, 2008 Well, I do believe that something might be out there, because I think there's quite a really big possibility that something is out there, the universe is quite big ("quite") there are really many many stars in many many galaxies in a who knows how big universe, I think that aliens might exist, but another question would be, who do you call an alien? when Columbus came to America, he was an alien to Indians..So I think, that even though, it would be a little organism or a stupid living creature or a very civilized thing, it would be an alien. Aliens might even be more advanced than we or less advanced than we or even as smart as a dog.. I guess if they would be less advanced than we would be Gods to them if "somehow" we would appear in the place/planet they live in.. It depends on how do you define a God..Sometimes I believe, that even we might have been started by Aliens, more advanced than we still are, anyone can think of anything Today or believe in almost anything.. I don't really believe in the Bible, that God created us in 6 days, due to I am quite smart Today to see that it was written by somebody, but I can believe in Evolution, but I still don't understand Evolution, because: "Why only Humans are so smart?" "Why only Humans/Earthlings got so advanced" and not other organisms/mammals/etc, I think a lot of smart people debated on this question and got different theories, personally I even believe that this could have been an experiment by some Aliens or something, who found a young planet earth, with some animals and did some tests on them, played with DNR for in their opinion the most advanced animals on Earth, in that time a primitive monkey primate or something.. They did something with their DNR and maybe left and in a lot of thousand years this was the reason we got so advanced and evolved much further than and ordinary monkey..Well, imagine one thing, if those aliens, would see that a dolphin was the most advanced/intelligent on Earth, what if they would do the DNR change with a Dolphin? In my opinion, a dolphin could become really smart, and imagine a smart evolved dolphin? or a reptile and etc. I want to say that having such a technology with which you would be able to modify DNR for years ahead, any organism type could become as smart as we and even continue to become smart, the biggest question is which type of an animal has the biggest LIMIT to evolve into something really smart, with a LIMIT it couldn't get smarter than it already is, I believe that most of people are using only a little "power" of their full body.. ;)I mean, do you really think that without any DNR modification Dogs or Horses or Birds could get as smart/intelligent as we are? I doubt it.. I am not mad about these kind of things, I know that my life is quite short to know such things, but it's an idea, moreover they show a lot of sci-fi movies these Days, where you can gather some thoughts.. :)Sorry for my bad English, due to it's my third language. Jared 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Definitely a solid topic.I am 99% inclined to think that aliens do exist, since we are a single planet in a single solar system in a single galaxy in a single galaxy cluster in the universe, and there are millions of clusters, many galaxies in each, many solar systems in each, and several planets in each solar system. I think that it's next to impossible when we have billions (of billions?) of planets in the universe that we are the only one to have intelligent life.Granted, what rockarolla said is true. We may never meet these other lifeforms, because the travel between planets would be next to impossible. Traveling great distances even at the speed of light would not even get us there before we died.Wormholes may be the answer to that problem, but even then any wormholes that scientists have experimented with have been completely unstable and its said that these wormholes only exist for millionths of a second and then collapse in on themselves. What would happen if we were in the wormhole when it collapsed? Most likely instant death. So yes, I think there is other life out there, but I don't think we'll ever meet them, nor will they ever meet us!- Jared
buherath 0 Report post Posted May 8, 2008 I too believe that there are aliens some where out there. But there is the chance that we may meet them even in our life time. Because about 100 years ago the time taken to double the world's knowledge was a lot more than the present times. Hence in the near future we may find a technology to travel at light speeds and inter planetary travel would be a piece of cake:) But what kind of creatures we will find is a hard question. What we call aliens does not have to look like skiny people who have never seen any food for years like in movies. They can be another race of humans just like us. They might even call us aliens!I for one really would like to meet an alien... who is friendly of course:)
john94538 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 If we did have the technology to venture out there and look for other life, we probably would find something sooner or later... considering the vast amount of space in the universe (there are billions and billions of galaxies), there has to be some type of other intelligent life out there. After all, if the entire universe were to only contain us humans as the only intelligent source of life, it would be an awful waste of space. But I would definitely leave the missions of finding life out there to the people of the future, armed with better technology than us today - who knows, maybe the "aliens" might not be so friendly after all, and we would need better weapons and equipment. Senor_Grunt 0 Report post Posted May 14, 2008 Honestly, its idiotic to say there is absolutely NO possibility that there's life on other planets. For one, space is INFINITE. There has to be at least one type of other life form out there some where in that INFINITE space. Plus, you can't say that most planets don't support life as perfect as Earth does, but how the *** do you know that they live on the same conditions as us? Hmm? What if they breath Carbon Dioxide or Helium, and Exhale Oxygen? Or what if they don't breath at all? Also, there can't just be a mass infection of crazy people who have witnessed UFO's. Now I'm not saying all claims are true, some are idiotic, but some can be extremely true. And Area 51, who knows, anything could be in there, we don't know what exactly could be there or not unless one of us is an FBI agent under cover. Other wise, I wanna know where you get your info, cause I want in. So, yes, I believe aliens exist, if thats what you're asking. If you're asking whether or not aliens exist, then all I can say is, we don't have the current technology to know whether or not they do. Come back in about 300 years and maybe we'll be able to travel THAT far into space. ;]

Come back in about 300 years and maybe we'll be able to travel THAT far into space. ;]Space is not infinite. It just continues forever. Hard to grasp, I know. We see the universe as having three dimensions, but we already know -- that is to say we have strong experimental evidence -- that there are more than three. So us three-dimensional beings living in this universe are a lot like a short line (1D) living on the circumfrence of a circle (2D). As far as the short line is concerned, is lives in a one-dimensional world that goes on forever, because it can keep running and running and running around the circle and never hit the end. Since it only has one dimension, it cannot tell that there is an empty centre to this circle, only that there is a line -- albeit curved... the line can't tell that -- that goes on forever. However, as a 3D observer, we can see that the circle's circumfrence is clearly not infinite. It has a set amount of length, namely 2*pi*r. Yet, it continues forever because a short line running around it will never hit a wall. Our universe is much like that because we can continue running in what we perceive as a straight line forever, and we will eventually come back to the exact point we started. So, while there is no "boundary" to space, it does have a finite amount of contents. It just happens to be a lot of contents, haha. If we did have the technology to venture out there and look for other life, we probably would find something sooner or later... considering the vast amount of space in the universe (there are billions and billions of galaxies), there has to be some type of other intelligent life out there. But I would definitely leave the missions of finding life out there to the people of the future, armed with better technology than us today - who knows, maybe the "aliens" might not be so friendly after all, and we would need better weapons and equipment. I think the safest and easiest way -- with slightly more advanced technology than what we have now -- would be with a super-mega-ultra telescope. That way we could look at planets thousands of lightyears away and see what was happening on those planets thousands of years ago. It's not possible with today's telescopes to see that far, but we might get there eventually, you never know.

Jared 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2008 Dictionary reference says otherwise.Haha... this is where physicists had to redefine the word infinite because it didn't accurately describe the universe. As it says above, space *does* continue forever. However, if it were infinite, we could theoretical jam as many galaxies in the universe as we wanted and there would still be room to spare. So we'd add another, and there would still be room. So we'd add another, and there'd still be room. Et cetera. So the fact here is that we cannot do that. Space has a definite size, albeit expanding constantly. In fact, the very notion that space is expanding says that it has a border... if it didn't how could it get any bigger? Senor_Grunt 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2008 Haha, thats true. But either way, you have to agree at least a little that with all the space, there has to be SOME form of other life out there. ;]

Ddraiggoch06 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 I do believe that we are not the only planet with life in space, but not in any of that green, big headed taking over the world stuff. I just find it pretty hard to believe that we are the only planet with life in the infinite space. We might never know for sure if there are any other lifeforms, but I think for now it's better that way.
