Converts everything 50 Megs or under. Pretty neat for documents and music.

Definitely only useful for small files (transferring them over the net to convert kind of sucks) but it could easily be a quick solution if you don't have any software for the job.

This thing is just begging to be put into a client-side application with batch processing and no size limit. The one-by-one on the web thing can be nice, but there are huge limitations to it. The website has its value for some people, but not for a person that manages large volumes of data.

Cool site, should help alot and it will save me from downloading heaps of seperate and small programs just to convert one thing. Plus this converter seems to be able to convert most file formats that exist, will be a very handy tool for people that do stuff especially involving music and movies but also for general stuff.Only thing letting me down here is my upload speed -HellFire

i wish i knew about this last year, lol.i spent ages looking for media file converters and i couldnt find ANY, i eventually made it so that when u rename a file it also changes the extension, though that didnt always work from memory

Another great site is Media Converter. It is an online converter, youtube downloader, and also has a downloadable converter. Also try Media Pirate, its partner site to download embedded videos from more than just Youtube.

Ah, that's pretty cool. I'd prefer to have an offline converter though, simply because some Internet connection (like mines) can be quite slow sometimes. But I guess it can be useful when you can't get an conversion app, or can't install one (like at school). I'll make sure I keep it in mind. =)Serena

Since this topic is about media conversion, then it should be alright to ask some queries here. So anyone came across any image conversion online? Like resizing the resolution on the go. Those url only stated media as in Videos and documents files. But there's no image conversion. Any url will be appreciated if you came across one.

Wow, I really feel sorry for you and everybody else who does their browsing without ad blocking software.I recommended Resizr after looking at it in FireFox with the Adblock Plus (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/) and Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/elemhidehelper/) add-ons. I have no idea what it looks like without ad filters, and frankly I do not wish to find out.
I started using ad blocking software after noticing that Flash based embedded ads on web pages consume CPU cycles even when the browser window is minimized or is not in the foreground (hidden behind other windows). And since I usually have 20 or more web pages open simultaneously, that adds up pretty quickly and you are left with very little processing power left for your other meaningful tasks. Also, I'm not sure whether your PC consumes more electricity when running at 80% CPU capacity because of all the Flash ads versus when running at 3-5% CPU capacity with ad blocking software. That sounds like a fun project to measure that difference in energy efficiency.

I have used that media convert website so many times....it is so helpful when you have files that somebody gives you for something and you can't open them because you don't have the same software as them. Because not only does the website have media files, but they also have things like documents and stuff... It truely is a one-stop place for all your conversion needs.I highly recommend it to anybody who ever wants to convert a file for some reason or another.

I haven't used online video converter because a software-based video converter ultimate is enough for me. And it has more function compare to the online converter. But the online converter also has advantages that is easy to use.

I guess that the initial topic question concerned free converters. The videosolo software you mention seems to cost $49.95. Il there a free version ?
